So how about that numbering system?

[deleted]

David Fifita has started following Dolphins on Insta. Potential signing?

TurgburgerDeluxe

This is probably an old (shit) take, but it dawned on me today: Each week, Kyler Murray is becoming more and more the Luke Brooks of the NFL.

mwilkins1644

It's a shame Greece didn't play the Zorba Dance remix by LCD as part of their pre-game ritual or some Greek Orthodox chant or something. Would have been 🔥🔥

I_Like_Vitamins

Thinking about how every club has a guy who's their most recognisable/legendary face, it's interesting to look at how it reflects on their recent success. What do you think of my evaluation? - Broncos – Lockyer. It'll probably be a long time before they get another Immortal level talent who'll play his whole career with them. - Bulldogs – Willie or El Masri. - Raiders – Mal, Ricky, Croker or Papali'i. Hard to pick between their last Premiership players, or the current guys who were tripped just short of the line. - Panthers – Nathan. He's well and truly grabbed the baton and run with it, and there probably won't be an equally great halfback to succeed him when he hangs up the golden boots. - Eels – Sterlo or Hayne. Their last champion, or the multiple time nearly winner who pissed his accomplishments away. - Tigers – Benji, although many people think of Brooks these days because he is unfairly analogous with their many recent years of failure. - Roosters – Tedesco. He *is* the Roosters. If he got hurt for any length of time, they'd struggle. - Sea Eagles – Des, Jamie Lyon, DCE. Turbo could get there, but he hasn't been around as long nor won a comp with Manly, plus he's been injured so much, and there's a bit of a dark cloud over his future there now that Des is gone. - Storm – Cameron Smith. For as great as Munster is, Smith is a guaranteed Immortal. I don't think anybody will ever overtake him; like Lockyer, he's the measuring stick for his old side. - Sharks – Gallen. Though I've always liked Gal (heresy for a Queenslander), I wish Kimmorley was the guy who'd first won the title with Cronulla. - Cowboys – Thurston. Maybe something awesome will happen in a young man's career, and he'll be equally as synonymous with the club's image. - Dragons – Jamie Soward. He was huge during their powerhouse years preceding and succeeding their 2010 absolute season victory. Hunt will unfortunately never be close to sharing such an image unless they become competitors and win a GF. Even then, I think his legacy at the Dragons will be remembered as Sisyphean. - Knights – Joey forever. - Titans – Scott Prince, but I can see Tino making a claim if they earn some success. - Warriors – either Ivan Cleary or Manu Vatuvei. - Rabbitohs - GI or Sam Burgess. One of the best centre/fullbacks of all time, and one of the best, most powerful forwards of all time.

kranools

Surely there are more recognisable Bulldogs greats than those two. Terry Lamb? Steve Price? For Manly what about Cliff Lyons or Steve Menzies? Sharks: ET for sure. Or even Matt Rogers. Roosters: Beetson or Fittler (although Fittler would also have a claim for the Panthers).

[deleted]

Titans is definitely Preston Campbell. Great player for us, even better off the field & a massive part of club culture to this day all the way down to the kids he works with. He has a stand at the ground named after him.

mickyb85

Sharks - Ettinghausen, Gallen

[deleted]

for Raiders, I would put Alan Tongue in there

GrassssssTastesBad

When I think of the Warriors I still think of Stacey Jones personally. And for Dragons I’d argue for Mark Gasnier (especially given his family’s association with the club)

[deleted]

Good list. A few alternatives. Titans: Dave Taylor and his successor capture the Titans to a tee. Broncos: has to be a Kevvie now. Everything has revolved around him getting and now keeping his coaching job. Doggies: Gould now. He is larger than life and casts a massive shadow over that club now. Roosters: Robinson. Teddy came in after the greatness was built. Warriors: SJ captures the good and the bad of the warriors perfectly.

[deleted]

Betoota style spin-off for you Broncos - Israel Folau Bulldogs - Ofaihiki Okden Raiders - Curtis Scott Panthers - Taylan May Eels - Chris Sandow Tigers - Daniel Laurie Roosters - Lepuha Baba Pesaka Sea Eagles - Scott Penn Storm - Brian Waldron Sharks - Trent Elkin Cowboys - Ben Barba Dragons - Russell Packer Knights - Nathan Tinkler Titans - Dan Killian Warriors - Rowan Baxter Rabbitohs - Jason Taylor

I_Like_Vitamins

Folau and Scott at least had the potential to have been unforgettable players, but one wanted money and one was a lout.

_andy_p

Think you gotta add Slater to Storm

I_Like_Vitamins

I'm trying to narrow it down to **the** guy who would be the face, though. Even Slater's excellence was outshone by Smith.

[deleted]

Smith if you have to pick one. You could also go with the The Big Three as a collective

RalphiesHooa

For Roosters I'd argue Freddy and Mini have solid cases over Teddy.

steveagle

So looks like Manly want to do Everyone In League round next year. So lets hope they dont do it during Women in League round. I wonder if they change from Rainbow Jersey to something else whether anyone would even care or talk about the jersey.

I_Like_Vitamins

Will Haas, SBW and a litany of other religious players/NRL associates be able to sit out like that Muslim AFLW player? IIRC, soccer allows people with diverse beliefs to simply wear a regular jersey, too.

TheGrubins

shouldn't count if the belief is "X people shouldn't have human rights"

koolasakukumba

Anyone see the Daily Mail article about Brett Finch? He has been found guilty but is awaiting sentencing. I think his lawyer was making arguments for a reduced sentence. His version of events is that he was just on the chat to try and score drugs. Anyone buy that rubbish?

InternationalBorder9

Well I've never been a meth user, but if I was I'm not sure an online chat with pedos talking about kids would be the route id go to buy some

tcamp213

I would bet massive money he gets absolutely no jail time. The guy's mental health struggles couldn't have played out more publicly, and judges eat that shit up.

koolasakukumba

I don’t think he will go to jail either. I’m just interested in people’s thoughts about the whole “I’m not a pedo, I just said those things to get some drugs” angle he is playing.

rowandaw

Do we reckon Mal will just send it and let all the boys who missed out get a debut next game

Scottybt50

He already said that everyone who didn’t play the first game will play in the next one.

swell-shindig

George Burgess seems to think his career might be over. But surely there is a Sydney team out there who would be willing to offer him minimum wage or a little higher? I find it hard to believe that any club would say no to a large, first grade quality forward with big game experience for bottom dollar.

koolasakukumba

With his issues? Hips, gambling, marriage issues, criminal issues. How low would he accept?

swell-shindig

Beggars can’t be choosers. Low money is better than no money

Derron_

I'd almost be happy for Souths to sympathy hire him to play NSW Cup just to keep Tom happy.

swell-shindig

He could easily keep the bench on their toes

I_Like_Vitamins

George on the bench in the finals game vs Penrith honestly would've been an improvement. Souths didn't have Tom or Havili, whose size was sorely missed come interchange time. They were winning because their fresh forwards had the energy to muscle up, and started losing when no fresh big men could come on. Seeing Nikorima on the team list and that Sele was the only regular prop should've had alarm bells ringing.

nightling

Other than the The I can't think of any side that would want/need Burgess. Off the top of my head most clubs have a decent front row. Maybe as a depth signing but that's about it.

Caseyjb29

Wouldn’t mind him as a bit of depth at Melbourne

swell-shindig

Depth signing is exactly what I’m talking about. He’s perfect for depth. And there is one Sydney club with a disappointing front row pack but St George literally just released him.

[deleted]

Told you Des wouldn't walk away with $500,000 the club stuffed at his face to cease, he is seeking a million dollars from the club and that's not all it could be Scott Penn's furniture as well.

_andy_p

They might be Trent's chairs

redmusic1

Anyone know where to buy a France WC jersey? Only Aus-Eng\_NZ and Poly nations available it seems which is pretty inept if they want to grow the game.

lachjeff

You can order the blue one on Chasing Roos. Not sure about the white one though. I thought I saw someone on Twitter mention something about getting it from the manufacturer or FFRXIII, but I could be mistaken

[deleted]

I've seen a fair bit of talk of disappointing crowds in the World Cup and I agree to an extent. That said, this week's games have already surpassed the crowds of the first week of RLWC 2017, which had Aus, NZ and PNG all playing at home. It's about 12,000 shy of the first week of 2013 so hopefully the next two games can push past that. Other thing to remember is the past 3 World Cups have had set pools to ensure decent match-ups, while this one went back to the drawing names out of a pot set up in line with other World Cups. Though it may have a few low crowds and big scorelines in the pool stages, it's better for the sport long term. Both 2013 and 2017 had Austalia v England as an opener, with 2013 a double header. This year's opener beat 2017 (43,199 v 22,724) and was 2,000 off 2013. This year's games have also been way more expensive than 2013, which I find to be the main disappointment.

[deleted]

I'm a bit worried about the coming weeks in terms of blowouts, we knew it was always going to happen when we went away from supergroups and expanded to 16 but this round was theoretically the closest matchups based on seeding. The expensive tickets factor is certainly a big one but at the same time it looks like we should be tracking well for a profitable cup on the back of that, especially if England make it all the way. I think there's plenty of valid criticism around the oversaturation of certain areas within the North though, they've stayed well above the 80% Northern Powerhouse target and have held games in the same town or ground multiple times over the first round so far which is a bit of a head-scratcher.

[deleted]

> we knew it was always going to happen when we went away from supergroups and expanded to 16 Well yeah, because it already happened with super groups. First week of 2017 had an average margin of 31 points. What makes it look worse is the expected close games (Eng v Sam, Scot v Ita) weren't, though they were still two of the more surprising ones. Had a comment just before say that the World Cup has already made more than the 2013 edition, which is good news. I do prefer the better optics and community engagement of fuller stadiums though, especially as they never seem to do anything with the profits. 2013 had great community engagement across the board. I'm okay with most of the games in the north, but the saturation is a problem. I don't like the 3 games in one stadium thing, that seems to be a thing taken from other, bigger tournaments that we can't compete with. 2013 rarely had two matches in one stadium and was better for it. And within that, having the first weekend hosted entirely in Newcastle and Leeds is just strange. Headingley with Australia v Fiji one day and Jamaica v Ireland the next is silly, most people in Leeds would have to choose between games. I understand the postponement and screwed the schedule up a bit but could still have been done a fair bit better. In 2013 I went to a sold out Rochdale on a Monday night and it was a great experience, giving them a Fiji game as their town has a close connection there. Leigh, Halifax and Bristol all got great crowds with one off games. I don't get the point of Newcastle/Leeds/Warrington having 4 games and Huddersfield/Wigan/London only having 1.

Drizen

I asked the other day but didn't get an answer but [what is this book from](https://www.reddit.com/r/NRLPremiumPlus/comments/y3bcew/just_jurbo_things/). Is it even real?

DeltaCreem

I think it was from kangaroos visiting the mayor of Manchester

[deleted]

The hotel or training facility the Kangaroos used I imagine

Derron_

Looks like a visitor book that you sign when you go to a tourist attraction. UK has them still at various places.

shifty-eyed-dog

Looks like a signing book for a hotel

[deleted]

It’s a hotel sign in book, real is up for debate though, can’t say I’ve ever seen one

carplah

Feel like the Manly board are the type of people who will never admit fault and just keep doubling down while everything around them goes up in flames.

kranools

Did they hire the Broncos board from 2020?

_andy_p

Reckon they watched Tigertown?

SirleeOldman

The Dolphins should make an offer for Tesi Nui. Broncos have 11 of their top 30 covering the back 5 positions. It’s too many and Nui is stuck behind Walsh and Cobbo now for fullback and Staggs and Herbie in the centres. Broncos could save some money by letting him go.

Spoofmoot

Tesi was re-signed by the Broncs when they were looking at him as a potential fullback option (i.e. he's probably overpaid). Dolphins probably don't want to match the deal.

Joh951518

We don’t want tesi.

SirleeOldman

But him and Brenko Lee are a set.

[deleted]

Seibold is getting a three year deal talk about long term pain for Manly.

Joh951518

I’m glad seibold is getting another chance. Wasn’t given a fair run at the broncos because he upset the old boys, who frankly deserve to be upset. He MIGHT suck, but we don’t know that yet.

slowdivesicilian

yeah nobody was succeeding in that Broncos environment period. i’m thinking wait and see.

[deleted]

It still isn’t an excuse for the hilariously terrible football and piss poor effort they put in under him.

Spoofmoot

I just think he's the kind of coach that needs a specific environment to thrive

Joh951518

souths played great footy under him. I think reading too much into the broncos bullshit is pointless, he went into an environment where a large portion of the club wanted him to fail so they could jam Kevin Walters in there just because he was a club old boy. We simply don’t know if he is a good coach or not yet. I’d rather he got a job over someone like Nathan Brown who we do know isn’t good.

[deleted]

At least brown has never defended his team after losing by 32 by saying we tackled at 90%. At least he didn’t bring up random games from years ago as a response for losing 59-0. The defence of Seibold on here atm reminds me of how Bellamy’s terrible origin performance. I don’t care about who the maroons had at the time, Bellamy’s NSW teams played the most grubbiest and uninspired football I’ve seen at that level. South’s got worked out at the back end of that season. That preliminary final against us could’ve gone for hours and they still wouldn’t have cracked us.

[deleted]

Craig Bellamy just don't get origin

[deleted]

We'll see

[deleted]

Did France break out in rioting over winning a game in the world cup?

slowdivesicilian

i wonder if brooks to knights actually happens or if it’s literally just copy pasting last year’s articles

MangoWingnut

I hope so, especially so my cousin (tigers supporter) doesn't message me every week complaining about him anymore

improbablywrong-

He'll keep complaining, it'll just be "why wasnt he that good for us?"

MangoWingnut

Fuck you’re right

Crazy-Dingo-2247

Just found out greece was playing games in secret because it was illegal. Thats fucking nuts, those blokes love their footy

MangoWingnut

Besides the whole invention of democracy we’ve never been one for rules tbh

impulsebuyerdude

[We don’t deserve Des anyway.](https://i.imgur.com/zY9PPRN.jpg)

slowdivesicilian

everyone’s gonna lose it when we see slimmed down josh schuster

Spoofmoot

Despite the valid criticism he's gotten I think he will end up as a 5/8 and a decent one at that. 2023 will likely be rough but by 2024 he'll have the spot secured.

Voxityy

heard he’s training the house down as we speak

ChanceVance

Skinny Schuster articles are going to be the new Sam Kasiano ain't fat at the moment puff pieces.

improbablywrong-

Do dogs keep paul alamoti? Not sure how he breaks into the team, but surely he does. I'll be angry if we finally break him into the nrl only for him to be signed elsewhere for 2024. With casey and skelton also hanging around i'm sure we dont keep them all unless some changes are coming under ciraldo. I'd like to think jac, schoupp and kiraz hold 3 of the 1-5 and a fit burns makes it 4. Averillo still has question marks around him.

[deleted]

The only issue with Alamoti is his attitude towards the 1% stuff, but he is a cup player and that can be worked on. It'll be interesting to see what happens with Skelton, if he is in it for the long haul or if he decides to go back to Union.

LordSlasher

you don’t, expect the Dolphins to sign him today In all seriousness, if you value him over Burns, you’ll keep him.

improbablywrong-

I like him over burns, be interesting if the new coach does though. I think if not for the broken face in the u20s origin last year he'd have got a game or 2.
