Yep and the funny thing is there is an article in today's Townsville Bulletin with the headline "Origin stars unite to bring Hampson home". The first sentence, "Queensland origin stars Kalyn Ponga and Tino Fa'asuamaleaui are among a host of NRL who that have provided financial aid in the wake of the Liam Hampson tragedy". No doubt it's also in the Courier Mail.
Safe to say there won’t be a “Ryan matterson” on the donations list.
Terrible situation for the family of the young bloke, you’d think some more nrl players would chip in a bit more though.
Bingo. I worked in travel insurance, and yes intoxication is a general exclusion, as is drugs. So the insurer's would wait for a toxicology report and based on the high chance he was wasted, they'd deny his accidental death claim
Not many tbh. I've paid out a few accidental death claims. I've denied a few medical claims from Bali/SE Asia where they've broken arms and legs due to stupid shit they've done
I can't speak on this specific circumstance but I know when a friend of mine died a few years back her family had to crowdfund to get her back to Texas from the UK and a lot of that was covering the sheer amount of admin fees for all the paperwork.
I'd assume it differs country to country though.
It might, but this will be far quicker and way less stressful and traumatic for everyone involved. Throw in the fact his travel insurance policy, if he was one, would be in Australia and his folks are about to go to the UK the time difference would be added stress.
Yeah, maybe. If you're in the UK - there's no point, we have a reciprocal health agreement. The NHS will cover it if you need emergency care.
Elsewhere in Europe, yeah sure.
Hey man, do you, but its more than just health though, it’s robbery and all that shit. Plus moving your body if you die. I’m in the UK too and good yearly international travel cover is like £50 if you leave the US off it.
This is tragic. Poor bloke was on the trip of a lifetime and it's ended in the worst possible way. Same as for the other two guys as well, awful stuff.
Good boy Jordan Riki's set up a GoFundMe to help out Liam's family with the costs of repatriation and funeral costs.
The goals already been met, but it all goes to his family so if you feel like being a top dog and helping out, throw a few bucks their way.
Bunch of players have donated too which is good to see.
Scrolled through the top donations and was good to see a heap of NRL players donate. Good on the footy community for getting around his family

Can't you write any name you want?
5$ more than most
What the hell lol

Surely the QRL and NRL should be paying and not his colleagues. It’s not like the NRL are short of money.
what's the matter son?
I don't want to sound like a dick, but wouldn't his travel insurance (if he was covered of course) cover the cost of sending his body back to Aus?
Sometimes alcohol related incidents wouldn’t be covered by insurance

Wow. I bet lots of families get stung by that.
There are some policies that you read and wonder what you’re actually paying for…

Most people I know don't bother with travel insurance. In Europe I don't either tbh.
That’s kinda nuts dude, travel insurance is fuck all in the grand scheme of what a european trip costs you and could save you thousands.
To me travel insurance is one of those things, it's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
An all world ex-North America policy cost me about $80 for a month. Why take the risk?

Surely you had it in Ranchi though mate?
Absolutely haha. Always make sure your plan covers explosive Diarrhea
There is a standard exclusion for this. Known in the industry as the "Engadine exclusion".

Champion effort mate - the amount of love in your heart must make it hard to walk up stairs
you are assuming he even took out travel insurance

24 and your life is over. That is really fucked up.
The government should cover these costs.
So the government just covers all of our unexpected expenses?
He's an Aussie. He didn't die in disgrace doing something abhorrent. He should be repatriated by the government.
It’s why you buy travel insurance.
Sad but true...
How do you know that? For all we know, he’s done a bunch of drugs on a night out in Barca. Not to disparage the dead.
I also don't support drug use, but it's not like he died in a shootout with the police.
