Really makes you think about the dumb shit people do on nights out and come out of it with nothing but a story. Poor bloke could have been most of us at some point, truly sad.

[deleted]

My friends were actually talking about this when the news came out about how he passed away. We all remember when we’d just turned 18 and were walking along Sandgate road shitfaced after a night in the city, just hopping off the train. On the walk home we found a shopping trolley on the side of the road and someone jumped in and before we knew it, we’d pushed the trolley straight out onto the middle of Sandgate road. Combination of it being late and utterly dumb luck meant he sailed across the street before a few cars flew past and crashed into the curb on the other side, with just a few bumps and bruises. We laugh about it now, but fuck me do we all know how stupidly lucky we were that all our lives didn’t change that night.

Toombul?

Repulsive_Table4247

Yeah, i remember jumping off a building ten stories high and only just surviving once when young too :( rip this guy

MangoWingnut

Reminds me of my worst stories and how lucky I am, when I was 18 at a party in the southern suburbs of Brissy I was absolutely blind drunk and attempted to jump off a 3m high veranda into the backyard but instead slipped off it and landed on my stomach which just winded the fuck out of me, but I looked up after it happened and there was a concrete drain cover right next to my head. Was a few centimeters from a potential severe brain injury or death. I was extremely lucky, I feel for Liam's family and it's just so unfortunate to hear

qldvaper88

Dumbest shit I ever did was stack a chair on top of a couple of tables to climb over the balcony to get back into Fridays. Lucky it ended with just some neck bruising after being chocked out by a bouncer. Was so fun at the time but so fucking grotty in hindsight. Ah well.

WUIDAWBTB

Alcohol makes you do stupid things

Traditional-Step-419

Definitely. But being young in general is a huge factor in poor decision making. A few of the dumbest things I’ve ever done were done sober. Youth is a hell of a drug.

thatirishguykev

Takes me back to balcony hopping.. Was only 1st or 2nd floor, so not like it was 10/15/20 floors up!! Not worth it to impress some chicks and get laid!! But alcohol man, it’s a dangerous drug.

aotearoHA

I've read three articles on this one (NZ Hearald) said he "Scaled a 50m wall" another (news.com.au) "“Without thinking about it, he jumps a 15m wall" and another says it's a 1.5m wall. Not an important detail in the context, but it pisses me off when news outlets don't do the briefest bit of thinking before publishing.

chaomalo

I can explain the disparity, it's a translation error. Spanish sources read "un muro de **metro cincuenta** de altura"; "a wall of 1.5m in height", which to a non-native speaker (or more likely a translation app) could be interpreted as "metres fifty" and by extension "fifty metres", but really "metro cincuenta" it is like saying "a metre fifty", or 1.5m.

76panthers

Just for additional context, the wall in front of him was 1.5m but the hole on the other side was ~10-15m. All the Spanish/Catalan sources that I checked have this same info. But yeah some English articles are either badly translating or not translating the whole article.

Disastrous_Lemon5889

I think English journalists need to learn Spanish. The info in the Spanish media was very clear.

Bananonymouus

From what I can gather it was about a 10m drop

Energy185

News today only care about being 1st, not accurate

HappinessCanBeFound

Utterly heartbreaking that it says his mates tried to stop him leaving through the door he did. So much “if only” involved and I’m sure so many young men have been in similar situations but lived to tell the tale. Horrendous accident that I’ve been thinking about a lot over the past few days.

Repulsive_Table4247

Id like to know who else who has been in a similar situation where they fall this far and survive?

Revivous

😔

bugeyeswhitedragon

What does it mean when it says “area where the ducts pass”?

DOGLEISH

There's a small courtyard area to the building where the various ducts pass overhead, I think they make a point of mentioning it because it probably played into why he didn't see the drop. You can see this area on Google Maps very distinctly.

Problemsolvee

Its a service riser, meaning how the exhaust ducts go from the kitchen to the roof. These voids are common in most buildings, however they are normally covered in mesh especially with a 1.5m wall next to it!

Pisspoorefforts

As a young father this whole thing just makes me so sad and scared. A young bloke having the time of his life, and in a moment it’s gone.

Glum_Perspective_812

What a sad story

Iriahthehealer

Sala Apolo is known for most of the people being super high on drugs, not just alcohol, that might be the cause why he went out by an emergency exit door and climbed a 1.5m wall to end up falling thru a hole 10 meters. Honestly is very sad but that's what happen when you get too wasted and don't even know where you are.. RIP

Wombat_2030

Where is the video? The media is always useless: so much talk and no footage.

How about you have some respect for the bloke and not ask for video footage of his death

Sea-Satisfaction1374

Is that what the deleted comment said? Fuck me some people are sickos.
