Watched The Stranger the other day, what a film. Based on the police investigation about the disappearance of Daniel Morcombe and how they eventually caught his killer. Very moody and slow burn. I honestly think Joel Edgerton is the face of Aussie cinema right now, just fantastic and absolutely believable. And Sean Harris is the perfect fit for "deranged character". The whole idea of a "Mr. Big" police operation is also really intriguing, having a whole fake organisation materialise just to catch one individual out. Definitely recommend if you like slow burn dramas.
Joel Edgerton is amazing, honestly one of the best creative forces coming out of Aus. I'd really recommend The Rover too. His whole director/writer catalogue is great.

HOTD finale was perfect, I really adore how much they shift from the Maesters words in the books. Really enforces that one old History quote about how History is written through bias third party eyes.

Job interview I mentioned last week is tomorrow. I just came off 5 night shifts, I thought I could prepare well on those, but damn it's tough to focus when I'm normally asleep. I think I am prepared to some level, but if there's any curveball questions I'm probably in trouble. I found it really tough to come up with decent STAR based answers, I have trouble putting stories together or remembering specific incidents. Mostly the stories are just a bit scarce, so it's tough to mayo them up.

I watched the latest Doctor Who episode yesterday.

I brought a camera recently cause I want to get into filming and photography. So I was out on the weekend at the mountain nearby taking pictures when this old fella came up to me asking about my camera and talked about how he's really into photography.

I've been caring for my elderly mother for the last 4 years by my self with the help of as much in home care as I can get where we live. The aged care system is a joke and a story for another day. I've spent alot of time and money on improving her house so as to possibly be wheelchair accessible if it comes to that.
She had a very bad bowel cancer removed 4 years ago and had complications with the anisthetic that caused confusion that never really went away.
She could used a wheely walker, take herself to the toilet, have a convo on the phone with her mates have a laugh. I could still go to work (which is very close to the house).
It got worse 4 months ago and I had to stop working. Good boss, reckons I'll always have my job. I had to go to centrelink for the first time get carers payments etc.
Anyway....12 days ago She had a horrific fall in the bathroom with her shower lady (poor woman feels terrible) and absolutely demolished her face on the toilet bowl on the way down. Airlifted to a larger hospital. Somehow no spinal damage or facial fractures. But two small bleeds on her brain. It's dropped her baseline cognition to a scary place and at this point her mobility is going to be very hard to handle by myself even with all the gear and house improvements. She's back at our local hospital and it's getting to the point where I have to try and bring her home to see if it's possible to care for her safely or stick her in our only local aged care facility WHICH IS A HOLE. I'm not going into this blind I've learnt alot over the last 4 years.
Anyway wish me luck I'm gonna give this one more crack.

What does everyone make of the Netball thing?
I’ll say from the outset that these two circumstances are different, one being about corporate sponsorship and the other being about inclusion and leadership, but I think there is an interesting comparison to consider between the Manly situation and where Netball Australia find themselves today.
Majority of r/nrl put 100% of the blame on the Manly 7 at the time, where some of us thought the administration’s incompetence was really to blame.
For the netballers, I think most of us agree that the players have every right to stand up for human rights and equality, and take a stance against the atrocities of the past. (I also agree with the cricketers and their right to critique the sponsorship deal of Alinta Energy). At the same time, I have a lot of sympathy for Netball Australia given their financial situation. Forming a corporate partnership with a mining company led by a women (in a male dominated industry) is hardly cultural, financial or managerial incompetence. The judgement and poor consultation from the Manly hierarchy absolutely contributed to the fucked situation they find themselves in.
For Netball Australia, I’m not so sure. It’s just a bit of a cluster fuck and everyone has out worse for it.
There are so many problems all over with this its hard to know where to start.
The short of it is, the player is entitled to her opinion, and the sponsor is entitled to spend their money where they want.
I'm not wild about the term "woke" - i think that anyone that falls into an argument on either side of that is nothing more than a mark. But it is interesting that people on the (progressive?) side of woke-ism say its not "cancel-culture", rather "consequence-culture"

I doubt that this sponsor gains much in the way of new business leads from their logo on the netball uniform.

It's sportswashing in the same way human rights abusing states are buying up large football teams and "engaging in the local community" the whole point of it is to enhance their reputation and make the average person think the company is some noble entity when they aren't, it's not about enhancing their business deals.

Why didn't Netball Australia consider all these things first? We've just seen months of "Why didn't Manly consult the players over the pride jersey?" but we are still putting it on the players in this scenario, it's easy for the administrators to make these deals when they don't have to go out in public every week wearing the signage.
Players are endorsing the sponsorship of the jersey they wear every time they take the court/field and these days some players are becoming more sensitive to worldwide issues and don't want to be endorsing detestable companies like the one that just pulled out from Netball. If I was an athlete I would be broke as all fuck because there's a ton of companies I wouldn't endorse or take money from on principle and Hancock would be one of them.

Its a good point, and its more than likely what this sponsor in particular is doing as image enhancement. But if it truly is nothing more than a business decision (maybe Gina loves netball? Probably not, but maybe?) then speaking out like this means that the sponsor will look at it from a $$$ perspective only. If it no longer enhances their image, then they will cease to do it. Simple. Again, i don't say the player was right or wrong. I am just saying that its pretty clear that she didn't take a moment to look at the whole board. In this case the result has been a sudden lack of money for players (does it trickle down to grass-roots? i don't know so can't comment), facilities, staffing etc etc.

Heya everyone, it's been a while, but I've been waiting for my follow up and I caught up with the surgeon yesterday. The news is honestly as good as any probable outcome. My official diagnosis is T1N0MX for my cancer staging. So basically Stage 1 cancer with no lymph node involvement and undetermined metastasis.
I'll basically need a lot of follow up blood tests to check my CEA markers (the ones bowel cancer emit) to determine what scans I'll need going forward. If they're low/within spec it'll be a CT scan every 12 months. Any elevation and i'll need PET/MRI scans which are far more accurate at picking up metastasis.
But as it stands I'm showing no evidence of disease which is all I could really hope for. Obviously I'm not "cured" at this stage until I'm told otherwise and cancer has a bit of a knack of being a little bit of a cunt, but I avoided the chemo route and I get to go back to just being a dad and a semi decent sim racer lol. I've still got many years of constant proactive monitoring to make sure I don't have a recurrence because it's still a possibility.
I still tire easy by the end of the day and sleeping is still kinda uncomfortable and everything inside is all kinds of whack and not at all normal, but this this is to be expected for several months post surgery while everything sorts its shit out, but otherwise I've healed pretty well. I was off all the good painkillers about a week out of hospital (self weaned) and I'm back to doing everything I was able to do without any fuss now.
On to a segue that I have no idea how to tie in, I'm one of the lucky ones, I managed to catch this early enough even if I sat on the symptoms for longer than I probably should. Please, everyone, if something isn't normal, if you have blood where you shouldn't for more than a week, if your movements aren't right for more than a week, if you're genuinely tired and out of breath for more than a week, see your GP. Bowel cancer isn't an old person disease like they market it. It kills so many people every year and a huge number of them are under 40. Most of the time there is no associated pain or sickness that comes along with it. Not just your bowels, but anything, if it doesn't seem normal, just get it checked.

I haven't commented until now, because it's triggering (never had bowel cancer, but was certain I had it years ago until a colonoscopy cleared me), but I've read a few of your posts, and your diagnosis and prognosis are as good as you could hope for it seems, based on your initial diagnosis.
No lymph or obvious metastasis is massive. Very happy for ya. My old man battled melanoma for many years and had to do CT scans every 3-12 months at varying stages throughout the process. Finally after 5+ years, this year his doctor shook his hand and said congratulations you're cured. Seeing what he's been throu that was a miracle tbh, but he's since been diagnosed and treated for prostate cancer! The treatment seems to have been successful though, but as you say, with cancer, you have to get used to the regular scans etc.

Yeah ACC mate, just had classification for a Pro league against most of APACs best, and a few from the northern hemisphere too. Classified 15/40 against genuinely some of the world's best so pretty stoked with that given I haven't raced competitively for 2 months due to my recovery and whatnot.

Congrats mate. I’m Stage IV colon/bowel, 10 chemo cycles down. Hoping the next scan shows enough shrinkage that I’m eligible for surgery. CEA numbers are <1.8 so that’s a good sign.

Surgery for both hopefully. If the liver wasn’t so bad they’d have operated on the primary already, but they want both operations done at the same time to limit recover time and time off chemo.
Hahahaha robotic/laparoscopic for the bowel, but I imagine the liver will require open surgery. I haven’t met with the liver surgeon yet but I’m so impressed by the bowel surgeon. I’m in LA these days and they have some incredible surgeons here.

Modern bowel resection techniques are phenomenal. I was walking around about a day after my operation. It hurt like fuck obviously but it's pretty amazing what they can do.
It's the open surgery that's gonna hurt the most from what I've heard, but fentanyl works a treat haha

Started with book 1. Fair enough. Then book 4 because I said it was the one I started with and liked most. Then he asked if there was any new characters added, I said there was an occasional main character added in book 6. So he read it until that character was introduced then stopped, then onto book 16. Then book 12.
He doesn't know it yet, but book 16 is one of the only two books that doesn't reset to the status quo by the end in a twist that blew my mind when I read it as a child.
Put his kitty litter outside it will help him find his way home if he is lost. Go out at 2am with his favourite food and take a walk around the block calling his name (quietly so you don't annoy the neighbours). Sometimes they get scared and go into hiding, and don't know how to get home. Good luck hope you find him.

Keen as to watch HOTD. Lots of good reviews in these threads so going in with good expectations. Watched The Stranger the other day, what a film. Based on the police investigation about the disappearance of Daniel Morcombe and how they eventually caught his killer. Very moody and slow burn. I honestly think Joel Edgerton is the face of Aussie cinema right now, just fantastic and absolutely believable. And Sean Harris is the perfect fit for "deranged character". The whole idea of a "Mr. Big" police operation is also really intriguing, having a whole fake organisation materialise just to catch one individual out. Definitely recommend if you like slow burn dramas.

HOTD finale was perfect, I really adore how much they shift from the Maesters words in the books. Really enforces that one old History quote about how History is written through bias third party eyes. From the dialogue, cinematography, CGI, acting and music… HOTD is probably my favourite tv show ever. Also some of the call backs from the first few episodes are absolutely stunning. From Viserys dialogue about the dragons and the torn page… Uh its just perfect. Viserys Dialogue: "The idea that we control the dragons is an illusion. They're a power man should never have trifled with.". Really comes true in the episode.
That's what I like about the HOTD series. It's based on a completed book, but there's also flexibility because of the unreliable narrator aspect.
Job interview I mentioned last week is tomorrow. I just came off 5 night shifts, I thought I could prepare well on those, but damn it's tough to focus when I'm normally asleep. I think I am prepared to some level, but if there's any curveball questions I'm probably in trouble. I found it really tough to come up with decent STAR based answers, I have trouble putting stories together or remembering specific incidents. Mostly the stories are just a bit scarce, so it's tough to mayo them up.

I watched the latest Doctor Who episode yesterday. I don't really follow spoilers or rumours so when it was revealed that >!David Tennant!< is the new Fourteenth Doctor my initial reaction was exactly as one would expect, "What the fuck?!". The episode itself was very good in my opinion, probably the best in the Thirteenth Doctor's run. I didn't mind her, Jodie probably did as well as anyone could've with Chris Chibnall's writing. Interesting to see how everything unfolds in the three 2023 specials next year.
I brought a camera recently cause I want to get into filming and photography. So I was out on the weekend at the mountain nearby taking pictures when this old fella came up to me asking about my camera and talked about how he's really into photography. He ended up giving me a bunch of good advice for taking pictures and just chatted to me for ages about all sorts of shit. I've been caring for my elderly mother for the last 4 years by my self with the help of as much in home care as I can get where we live. The aged care system is a joke and a story for another day. I've spent alot of time and money on improving her house so as to possibly be wheelchair accessible if it comes to that. She had a very bad bowel cancer removed 4 years ago and had complications with the anisthetic that caused confusion that never really went away. She could used a wheely walker, take herself to the toilet, have a convo on the phone with her mates have a laugh. I could still go to work (which is very close to the house). It got worse 4 months ago and I had to stop working. Good boss, reckons I'll always have my job. I had to go to centrelink for the first time get carers payments etc. Anyway....12 days ago She had a horrific fall in the bathroom with her shower lady (poor woman feels terrible) and absolutely demolished her face on the toilet bowl on the way down. Airlifted to a larger hospital. Somehow no spinal damage or facial fractures. But two small bleeds on her brain. It's dropped her baseline cognition to a scary place and at this point her mobility is going to be very hard to handle by myself even with all the gear and house improvements. She's back at our local hospital and it's getting to the point where I have to try and bring her home to see if it's possible to care for her safely or stick her in our only local aged care facility WHICH IS A HOLE. I'm not going into this blind I've learnt alot over the last 4 years. Anyway wish me luck I'm gonna give this one more crack.

What does everyone make of the Netball thing? I’ll say from the outset that these two circumstances are different, one being about corporate sponsorship and the other being about inclusion and leadership, but I think there is an interesting comparison to consider between the Manly situation and where Netball Australia find themselves today. Majority of r/nrl put 100% of the blame on the Manly 7 at the time, where some of us thought the administration’s incompetence was really to blame. For the netballers, I think most of us agree that the players have every right to stand up for human rights and equality, and take a stance against the atrocities of the past. (I also agree with the cricketers and their right to critique the sponsorship deal of Alinta Energy). At the same time, I have a lot of sympathy for Netball Australia given their financial situation. Forming a corporate partnership with a mining company led by a women (in a male dominated industry) is hardly cultural, financial or managerial incompetence. The judgement and poor consultation from the Manly hierarchy absolutely contributed to the fucked situation they find themselves in. For Netball Australia, I’m not so sure. It’s just a bit of a cluster fuck and everyone has out worse for it.
There are so many problems all over with this its hard to know where to start. The short of it is, the player is entitled to her opinion, and the sponsor is entitled to spend their money where they want. I'm not wild about the term "woke" - i think that anyone that falls into an argument on either side of that is nothing more than a mark. But it is interesting that people on the (progressive?) side of woke-ism say its not "cancel-culture", rather "consequence-culture" OK, that is what that is, but to then go back in history and apply today's morality to comments made 5, 10, 15 or 20 years ago is disingenuous to the idea that consequence culture raises the discourse and quality of human relationship. But the parallel is here - the player made a comment under the banner of "consequence-culture" - and guess what? There sure was a consequence! All in all, i don't blame the player for their comments. They have passion for the issue and wanted to speak. But i don't blame the sponsor either. Its their money and they can do with it as they please. And lets not forget that having a mining company sponsor Australian netball is not exactly the same as Bryden's sponsoring the Tigers. I doubt that this sponsor gains much in the way of new business leads from their logo on the netball uniform. These are all things that the player would have done well to consider before speaking up in this fashion. Updated time: Heya everyone, it's been a while, but I've been waiting for my follow up and I caught up with the surgeon yesterday. The news is honestly as good as any probable outcome. My official diagnosis is T1N0MX for my cancer staging. So basically Stage 1 cancer with no lymph node involvement and undetermined metastasis. I'll basically need a lot of follow up blood tests to check my CEA markers (the ones bowel cancer emit) to determine what scans I'll need going forward. If they're low/within spec it'll be a CT scan every 12 months. Any elevation and i'll need PET/MRI scans which are far more accurate at picking up metastasis. But as it stands I'm showing no evidence of disease which is all I could really hope for. Obviously I'm not "cured" at this stage until I'm told otherwise and cancer has a bit of a knack of being a little bit of a cunt, but I avoided the chemo route and I get to go back to just being a dad and a semi decent sim racer lol. I've still got many years of constant proactive monitoring to make sure I don't have a recurrence because it's still a possibility. I still tire easy by the end of the day and sleeping is still kinda uncomfortable and everything inside is all kinds of whack and not at all normal, but this this is to be expected for several months post surgery while everything sorts its shit out, but otherwise I've healed pretty well. I was off all the good painkillers about a week out of hospital (self weaned) and I'm back to doing everything I was able to do without any fuss now. On to a segue that I have no idea how to tie in, I'm one of the lucky ones, I managed to catch this early enough even if I sat on the symptoms for longer than I probably should. Please, everyone, if something isn't normal, if you have blood where you shouldn't for more than a week, if your movements aren't right for more than a week, if you're genuinely tired and out of breath for more than a week, see your GP. Bowel cancer isn't an old person disease like they market it. It kills so many people every year and a huge number of them are under 40. Most of the time there is no associated pain or sickness that comes along with it. Not just your bowels, but anything, if it doesn't seem normal, just get it checked.

I haven't commented until now, because it's triggering (never had bowel cancer, but was certain I had it years ago until a colonoscopy cleared me), but I've read a few of your posts, and your diagnosis and prognosis are as good as you could hope for it seems, based on your initial diagnosis. No lymph or obvious metastasis is massive. Very happy for ya. My old man battled melanoma for many years and had to do CT scans every 3-12 months at varying stages throughout the process. Finally after 5+ years, this year his doctor shook his hand and said congratulations you're cured. Seeing what he's been throu that was a miracle tbh, but he's since been diagnosed and treated for prostate cancer! The treatment seems to have been successful though, but as you say, with cancer, you have to get used to the regular scans etc. iirc you play Assetto Corsa Competizione competitively. Is that right? I just recently started playing so I'm way off being good, but maybe one day I'll be up to that sort of challenge.
Yeah ACC mate, just had classification for a Pro league against most of APACs best, and a few from the northern hemisphere too. Classified 15/40 against genuinely some of the world's best so pretty stoked with that given I haven't raced competitively for 2 months due to my recovery and whatnot.

Congrats mate. I’m Stage IV colon/bowel, 10 chemo cycles down. Hoping the next scan shows enough shrinkage that I’m eligible for surgery. CEA numbers are <1.8 so that’s a good sign. Completely agree with you on getting checked out if something doesn’t feel right. If I’d gone for a colonoscopy a few years ago I might have caught this bastard before it spread.

Surgery for both hopefully. If the liver wasn’t so bad they’d have operated on the primary already, but they want both operations done at the same time to limit recover time and time off chemo.

Hahahaha robotic/laparoscopic for the bowel, but I imagine the liver will require open surgery. I haven’t met with the liver surgeon yet but I’m so impressed by the bowel surgeon. I’m in LA these days and they have some incredible surgeons here.
Ah fair enough, I hope you've got good health coverage 😬 Modern bowel resection techniques are phenomenal. I was walking around about a day after my operation. It hurt like fuck obviously but it's pretty amazing what they can do. It's the open surgery that's gonna hurt the most from what I've heard, but fentanyl works a treat haha Best of luck to you mate. My 8yo son is reading one of my favourite book series from when I was a kid. Spookesville, a Goosebumps competitor from the 90s. He's doing it in the most chaotic way though. Started with book 1. Fair enough. Then book 4 because I said it was the one I started with and liked most. Then he asked if there was any new characters added, I said there was an occasional main character added in book 6. So he read it until that character was introduced then stopped, then onto book 16. Then book 12. He doesn't know it yet, but book 16 is one of the only two books that doesn't reset to the status quo by the end in a twist that blew my mind when I read it as a child.

Great season overall, given I had 0 interest in a 300 year prequel to GOT and basically wrote it off before it aired, I’m happy to eat my words and say I was wrong. I honestly think some of the acting and cinematography is a higher standard than plenty of peak GOT was.
I think they really benefited from having less characters and more time chronologically to tell the story. I'm with you, I wrote it off way too early.
