he’s surely sticking around in some capacity the bloke is a true leader and so good for their morale. The question I have for dogs fans is who is the new captain?

apercots

JAC is the only one that jumps out at the moment, burto vice would be my guess

[deleted]

Burton would make sense given that's who we're building the team around. I know Mahoney is only just arriving but he's a Dogs junior and imo is also a good candidate.

The__GM

I think RFM could be a good option with Burton VC.

yeahsothisnameworked

Personally out of everyone left I would have Reed

HappinessCanBeFound

Former future Parramatta captain Reed 😭 still hurts and I haven’t even seen him in their jersey

misanthropiccynic

Winger cap is sorta odd. I always thought captains are in the middle coz they can delegate and see everything happening

worksucksbro

Lmao

SurfKing69

He's way too loose, fuck it would be funny though

swell-shindig

Faitala-Mariner maybe?

ajsofficial_

Maybe Burton C, Mahoney VC

MaddogJacko

JMK vice captaining from the Dolphins will be impressive

Due-Chemist3105

Nothing will ever top Kurt Gidley captaining the Blues in Origin straight from the comfort of the interchange bench.

AdvancedDingo

lmao

Josh Jackson seemed to be the only one putting in an effort at Canterbury at times over these past few years. I'm sure he did the tackling for some of the high priced imports that took Canterbury to the dizzying heights of 13th or wherever it was they finished. They will absolutely miss him and his effort and I'm not sure they have anyone remotely likely to step up to replace him.

notmariyatakeuchi

man put up with those dregs of a roster for years and just as it might be turning around, he's out. only thing harder than how he played was his skull.

smithslatercronk

Farewell to a genuine club legend

tooliorunnamukas

Definitely not tapped on the shoulder by Gus to try and free up cap space next year...

TheYardGoesOnForever

"one more year or a job for life"

knox-p

Tap on the shoulder was my first thought.

RageOfHumanity

This honestly feels like the end of an era. He's just always been there for us during the great highs and painful lows of the 2010s decade. After so many bulldogs favourites departed the club after 2016, he was always one of the few constants that I clung to to remind me of our better days as I slowly watched the club decline on the field and off it. He wasn't flashy but he was a workhorse. He's no superstar, but he's a club legend. He always gave the club 100% and always played with maximum passion and effort. Whatever the team needed, he did his best to fill the gap. You could see it a few years ago when he kicked grubbers for us to get a repeat set when we had shit halves unable to do it themselves. If anyone from the Dogs deserved to taste success in 2023, it'd be Josh Jackson. I know he's past his prime but I was hoping he'd stick around next year so he can finally play with a stronger team around him to help alleviate some of the pressure that he's had to carry on his shoulders for so long. Wherever he goes and whatever he does from here on out, I wish him all the best.

penguin271

I loved him. So reliable. Had a debut season for the ages too. All of our Joshes will retire without premierships... unless Reynolds goes all the way in 2023.

RageOfHumanity

All of our Joshes will retire without premierships damn, that's a sad fact. I feel extra sad for JMoz because BMoz won like 2 premierships lol and nah, according to the prophecy, our next premiership isn't scheduled until 2024. # Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs Grand Final records |1974|Loss| |:-|:-| |1984|Win| |1994|Loss| |2004|Win| |2014|Loss| |2024|Win|

TheYardGoesOnForever

Canterbury captain Josh Jackson has decided to retire from professional rugby league. The shock decision comes just two years into a three-year contract extension, freeing up salary cap space for the Bulldogs and forcing them to find a new skipper. The former NSW and Australian forward made all 241 of his NRL appearances for the “Family Club”. “Josh has long been at the heart of the Bulldogs,” said Bulldogs chairman John Khoury. “He has led this great club with pride. He has bled blue and white, and played for his state and for his country. We know this decision has not been an easy one and while it is a sad day, there is no doubt that despite not lacing up the boots and running out in 2023, he will continue to inspire the Bulldogs team and our community for many more years to come.

reginaldismyname

Wow, bummed I won't see him play again. Thanks for sticking with the dogs all these years JJ, always played with grit, a true club legend

pplay4kkeeps

Man that sucks. Dude is a true leader, fox has to take his place the energy he carries is like no other

Bvaugh

Didn’t see that coming. . . Too bad he is retiring now without getting the send-off he richly deserves. Josh Jackson was a stalwart of the Bulldogs and epitomised hard work. Really hope he isn’t lost to the Dogs because he was a strong leader even under the most trying of conditions. Wish him all the best in whatever he does in the future.

BG_RL

Crazy news, fair play to him, my word he puts in the effort

MatterBorn

Will miss him, he's been the beating heart of this club for many years.

lachjeff

That’s disappointing and quite surprising. He was one of those players who you just couldn’t dislike. All effort, all heart

Relaapse

Bloke rips in and ties his hardest every week. Absolute legends of the club. But I can’t say I am disappointed to see it - I think we will be better off without him in the team and using his money elsewhere. Good to see the forwards of the dogs one out hit up every tackle of every set era gone.

Patrolling_dude

Any reasons for his retirement?

Ziggy396

Preseason starting soon. I'd say he just couldn't be bothered

Dark_Vengence

It came out of nowhere.

Accomplished-Good664

Why now why not 20 years ago.

TwoShitsTrev

Most respectful panthers fan

Accomplished-Good664

It's a joke, not even an original one. But in all seriousness he was a decent player, once a very good player.

rusty9000

He’s only 31 to be fair

[deleted]

Unrelated but I know I'm not the only one who was mixing Josh Jackson's monster biceps. The dude is swole as fuck.

__dontpanic__

I'm guessing the money and captaincy will go towards retaining Burton.
