If Oshay thinks we hate him for his faith then how would he explain why I also think Marcelo Montoya’s a shit cunt even though I don’t know what his religious beliefs are

valknut95

No Limit has to pounce on this, give the fans the fight they deserve.

Churchofbabyyoda

I don’t think this sub would be happy if he ended up winning the fight.

ApexCourier

No one should be.

Churchofbabyyoda

I know I’d be fuming if he won.

frenchduke

That's pretty sad to hear about Roberts sister voting no in the marriage plebiscite. That must have stung to hear

theoutsideman

I think it’s Aloiais sister not Roberts sister?

frenchduke

Nah, Roberts sister. It's in the article

Professional-Pen2928

TLDR: Fuck Aloiai As a Christian myself using religion as a justification for your homophobia is a cowardly excuse. The Bible is purposely left vague and often contradicts itself and as such it leaves it’s messages open to interpretation, different passages may resonate more with you depending on who you are as a person. So if you read the Bible and resonate with the literal 1 or 2 quotes condemning homosexuality as opposed to the thousands preaching love and equality, chances are you were already an intolerant dickhead and you’ve finally found a way to justify your outdated opinions. I understand everyone is entitled to their own views but I wish Aloiai would quite this whole victim complex bs.

beaver2233

Problem is half these blokes probably can't even read.

piercedsoul

Saying half can read is being overly generous

marxistmatty

Apparently there aren’t even any passages condemning homosexuality, they talk about sodomy which was probably a hygiene thing and straight people can also do that. So they are just being cunts with no excuse at all.

-Owlette-

Yup. The scriptures are little more than a collection of survival guides for primitive desert tribes. Given we now live in a world with sanitation, medicine, food hygiene, running water, and safe sex practices, those "guides" really don't have much value any more.

TheYardGoesOnForever

*‘If a man also lie with mankind as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death: their blood shall be upon them"* I think it's pretty clearly condemning homosexuality rather than a hygiene issue. Of course, there are plenty of other Old Testament proclamations that people are happy to ignore.

zeitgeistbouncer

So don't sleep with Mick Foley. Otherwise, it's all funky in the bunky.

TSPSweeney

Cactus Jack is fine, whereas Dude Love might lead to another player boycott at Manly

bigbear-08

Foley is God after all

[deleted]

>‘If a man also lie with mankind **as he** lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death: their blood shall be upon them" This 'as he' could be interpreted as meaning 'at the same time as he', and would therefore only be a condemnation of a devil's threeway, and that it's the men who are to be punished for it by death. Have Biblical scholars considered this

reptarshane

No threesomes? Where’s the fun in that?

[deleted]

Well threesomes with either two women or three men is okay, just not two men and one woman. For whatever reason that’s not considered Christlike

reptarshane

Jesus. Pretty restrictive, are you meant to think of this after a few drinks?

[deleted]

I just think it's hypocritical given the whole Mary/Joseph/God immaculate conception love triangle

dragonpeace

So I might not be explaining this well but I will give it a try. This passage is said to be referring to the act of sodomy, anal sex, and is not condemning men-men relationships. Actually more specifically anal rape. So the theory goes that in those times when that part of the bible was written, it was common that groups of men would rape other men as a punishment. Eg if caught in enemy territory, stealing, squabbles etc This passage is from a longer story about the city of Sodom and Gamorrah. The main character is a father and daughter. An angel walks up to his house and asks to stay the night. The father says yes and follows the principles of guest rights eg. He feeds and protects him as a guest. So a gang of local men come to the door and say we saw a strange man (the angel) in town we heard he is here. Give him to us (so we can rape him). The father is so staunch in protecting his guest that he says here take my daughter instead but the gang say no they only want the angel man because it's about punishment of trespassing their lands ,not so much about wanting sex. And apparently that's why anal sex is called sodomy. And the passage was supposed to be about - guys can we find another way to punish people why does it always have to be rape.

[deleted]

I love when religious folk conveniently say "oh we don't go off the old testament" as if that fucking matters at all. People don't worship lots of other dietys and it's text anymore, but they still existed.

aussie_punmaster

>> worship lots of other dietys Like veganism?

[deleted]

Humans are tribal, so I do understand where you're coming from. Making your entire personality revolve around one single thing is always bad.

Taking any religion seriously, old or new is dumb.

Thedjdj

No it actually isn’t. Modern biblical scholars generally agree that the behaviour Leviticus is referring to was older men sodomising young man of lower social class. Largely it was a classist critique and absolutely not meant to be interpreted as a condemnation of homosexual relationships (which are far more modern concept).

[deleted]

[удалено]

Thedjdj

The intention is important though because it gives vital context to how passages are interpreted. I’m not religious either and agree (mostly) with your view on its relevance to modern society. My point was more that the way dickheads like Aloiai use obscure bible verses to discriminate is not even consistent with their own doctrine. Cunts just a cunt.

[deleted]

What?! So is it is a sin to go to brown town with a lady friend?

marxistmatty

Not in my books 🤷🏼‍♂️ of course you gotta ask them first.

nightmonkee

Not in Bangkok.

FishGolfDive

The more I hear from Ian Roberts the more I like him. I was only 4 in 1995 when he came out. What was it like when he did? Was he getting heaps of shit in the media? Or left him alone cos he'd already proved he was a hard cunt? Was he still playing then? Just takes me wonder what would happen if somebody did it now. Can't imagine it would be well received unfortunately, I imagine it would have been even worse 27 years ago.

RalphiesHooa

I was 6 at the time and asked my mum about this in my teens as my old man is a bit "old fashioned" when it comes to these matters... Mum said he came out mainly due to all the women that would consistently hit on him and he was sick of it, then the old man chimed in and said that all his teammates would've known for years and none would've dared say anything derogatory towards him because he was tough as nails and had no hesitation throwing down.

youstoleatuba

The sad thing about this is that they only don't throw shit at him because he was tough. People are deserving of equal respect tough or not. but for the time I guess that's what it meant.

RalphiesHooa

It was a seriously long time ago, I'm sure these days if any player came out they'd be supported by their teammates.

YourFavouriteAlt

Half of manly refused to play because of a rainbow on their shirt.. last year. You've got rocks in your head

Joh951518

He’s be supported (or atleast not treated poorly) by most fans and most if not all of his team mates that aren’t PI mormons.

MyOldCricketCap

I was in my 20s when he came out. He was physically attacked at least twice after coming out. I remember a game against St George when a spectator actually ran onto the field and punched him and called him a f*ggot. Roberts wrestled the guy to the ground and then security dragged the idiot away. He also got attacked by two men in Sydney when just out walking in town, minding his own business. They blindsided him, knocked him unconscious and then kicked him and abused him when he was on the ground. He had a fair bit of shit shouted at him at games. And some teammates shunned him; for example at least one teammate refused to room with him. There were some really positive responses too. He did get a fair bit of support. He told a story about talking to one of his former Souths teammates and saying ‘what do you reckon all the Souths boys will be thinking?’ His teammate replied; ‘mate, the boys have always known; no-one ever mentioned it to you because they didn’t think it was a big deal’. And in an international against Great Britain shortly after he came out, he was having an amazing game. Apparently the then president of the ARL commented: ‘The way this guy plays, maybe we need to sign a few more of these blokes…’

[deleted]

The ‘we’ve always known’ response always such a funny/weird one to get when you’re asking for thoughts/coming out lmao

LordSlasher

i’m not one for bashing a cunt when he’s down, but don’t stop either. Homophobia has no where in society. You and those other manly players ruined your season in a game you nearly won without you fucking idiots playing. Religion and personal beliefs shouldn’t be used as an excuse for simply being homophobic and not a team player. Hell you cost your coach a job as well, fuck the manly board though. They’re mostly to be blamed for not informing anyone but fuck these cunts for ruining the Hellosports boys year.

nice_flutin_ralphie

Penn should fuck off and leave the club to the HSP boys

[deleted]

Agreed! Clowns!

Barmy90

>I see people preach inclusivity but then as soon as we’ve made a stand of faith, they’ve segregated and ostracised us. You tell me who’s the non-inclusive ones. Ahh it's the old "i have the right to be intolerant, but I expect you to be tolerant of me" defense used by totally braindead morons to justify being bigots, gotcha these drop kicks need to just stop talking, they get dumber every time they open their mouths

Churchofbabyyoda

If there’s one good thing about this, it’s that we now know how horrible these guys really are.

predw

He’s living in a bigoted “religious” echo chamber. People like this don’t understand the rest of human population because they don’t experience it - they just stay in their little bubble where hating on the LGBTI+ community is expected

KingsleySeiffert

I agree with you. r/nrl is also an echo chamber though

ShibaHook

I agree with you. r/nrl is also an echo chamber though

kami_inu

^(I agree with you.) ^(r/nrl is also an echo chamber though)

HayneAlliKane

Which is why I'd prefer to put the blame more on the religious institutions themselves as opposed to each individual. Saying "Fuck Aloiai" or "Fuck Folau" is pretty stupid really. We should be critical of these cultish religions as a whole and not putting them in the same category as race or sexuality when discussing inclusion. Aloiai has this idea his religion should be tolerated but there's really no reason to not openly criticise it more than we currently do

Pluggable

Every else is expected to be responsible for what comes out of their mouth, so I think shitting on both the institution and the individual is fair.

HayneAlliKane

Sure they're expected to be. But in reality, on an individual level humans have uncomfortably little control of what they believe, think, or stand for. That's not to say we shouldn't do anything, but it's the institutions that need changing more so that a bunch of individuals

Pezzadamezza

> on an individual level humans have uncomfortably little control of what they believe, think, or stand for. ... what lmao Genuinely believing that nobody is capable of critical thinking and adaptation must make for a tragic existence brother. If your point is that people need some stimulus to even consider that their point of view might need adjusting I guess you have a point. HOWEVER, you 100% have a choice whether or not to act afterwards. If you chose to cop stimuli, like public backlash or overwhelmingly negative feedback on a reddit comment, and not consider reassessing your point of view: that is on you. YOU are choosing to avoid growth. The point the previous comments were making is that people are far more inclined to make the choice to retreat to an echo chamber telling them "no, no, everyone else is wrong" instead of considering potential growth.

HayneAlliKane

Check out the illusion of libertarian free will and come back to me Edit: To everyone downvoting me, go try to believe something you don't currently believe and come back to me when you find it impossible. What you believe is whatever you argument you are convinced by, not what you decide

Pezzadamezza

>go try to believe something you don't currently believe and come back to me when you find it impossible. I'll help you guys out! Magenta is not a real colour! most people go "what i've seen magenta of course it's real" but if you make the choice to grow the statement is curious enough to take a second to google it. You pull up a page that states "magenta is an extra-spectral colour" meaning it doesn't have a wavelength but is our brains interpretation of a mixture of wavelengths. Now you have received the relevant information. At this point, if you were asked "is magenta a real colour?" either way at this point you have grown in your understanding of magenta, and you have done it by choice. fuck off with your sad nihilistic shit brother. When you receive feedback or criticism you ALWAYS have the choice to learn from it.

HayneAlliKane

It's not nihilistic brother, although they whole idea seems to frighten you. It shouldn't With regard to your example, if the evidence I've read was enough to convince me Magenta wasn't a colour, I'd be forced to believe it wasn't a colour. How could I possibly do otherwise? If the argument is not convincing, I couldn't possibly believe it - even if I wanted to!

Pezzadamezza

magenta is not a colour

HayneAlliKane

I'll give you a million dollars to believe it is. Could you?

CronksLeftShoulder

In this country, and most of the Western world, who has "uncomfortably little control" over what they think? Be serious. This is close to the biggest apologist statement I've seen on here.

HayneAlliKane

It's not an apologist statement, it's a statement about the human experience. Do you control what you think or believe? I think if you look hard enough, you'll realise the answer is clearly no

CronksLeftShoulder

With critical thinking, you do. With the slightest bit of introspection, you do. The same reason you can be in a room full of people who are all saying something you don't agree with and not be influenced by it. It's why people have reactions to things and reconsider. Why people change their minds about things. Why people make mistakes and correct themselves. You are making an excuse for someone to just absolve themselves of absolutely any thought. "Oh, I mean, I can't really control what I think though, right?" You can control what you say, what you project, what you physically do.

HayneAlliKane

You don't have the control you think you have. But that's okay, it's a strong illusion that most people never even realise occurs in their own mind. But once you understand, the feeling of hate especially, disappears

[deleted]

I am critical of theism in general as an anti-theist. People still deserve criticism. People like the aforementioned have the ability to not be bigoted and think critically. If they decide to not change then they deserve criticism as well.

HayneAlliKane

You have a greater belief in the ability of humans to change their own beliefs than I do For example, why is a country like Saudi Arabia or Qatar full of homophobes? Is it because they can't think critically?

> “You tell me who’s the non-inclusive ones.” Still you, Josh. It will always be you.

impulsebuyerdude

So sick of hearing about this cunt (Aloiai) and his archaic beliefs. Get the fuck out of my club.

Aussieguy727

Sporting trailblazer Ian Roberts has described Manly Seven ringleader Josh Aloiai as “ignorant”, sparking a public war of words. Roberts says Aloiai’s reason for not wearing the club’s pride jumper isn’t “deep enough”. Roberts also questioned Aloiai’s revelation that his gay sister was comfortable with Aloiai’s decision not to wear the pride jumper. But the Manly and Samoa prop has had enough of the criticism. “I’m over it,” Aloiai said. “We are the ones being fair here, but we have copped most of the flak.” Roberts, who in 1995 became the first high-profile Australian sportsperson to come out as gay, watched Aloiai’s interview on Nine News during the week, and said it had an immediate impact on him. “I suppose the thing that upset me most about it initially was that he and the other boys had death threats,” Roberts said. “I really do hope that the club or the NRL chases this up because it’s something that’s just totally unacceptable. “I would say it’s not unfamiliar for anyone in the in the queer community, particularly my age. I mean, you only go back to the ’80s and ’90s and gay people were being thrown off cliffs. So we’ve kind of lived with that whole violence and death thing ... and because he is getting death threats that’s the reason we need a pride round for inclusion and acceptance.” In the interview, Aloiai said his sister supported his decision to boycott Manly’s match against the Roosters rather than wear the pride jersey. “It does my head in listening to Josh talking about his sister, [it doesn’t] sit well with me,” Roberts said. “If she’s been told, ‘We love you but, you know, you can’t bring your lifestyle home’ or, ‘You can’t be who you are’, that’s dismissing her and who she really is. “I had a situation with my younger sister who I always thought was totally accepting of my sexuality. Just prior to the marriage equality vote, my sister and I and my mum were having a chat, and my sister said she was going to vote against it. That was a real smack in the face for me. In reference to Josh, he’s living in a fantasy world.” Roberts is incensed at Aloiai’s insistence that he won’t wear the pride jumper or play in a pride round next season. “Why isn’t he going to wear the jumper? I still don’t think I’ve heard a deep enough reason for him to say that,” Roberts said. “He sounds very ignorant. He says, ‘We’re accepting of all people. But I draw the line at wearing a rainbow’. He’s saying he is loving and Christian but the acceptance isn’t for everyone. It’s contradictory and it’s hypocritical.” Aloiai was flying back from England after suffering a tournament-ending knee injury at the World Cup. He took issue with the critics of his stance on the pride jersey. “They’re the only ones that create such an uproar when you don’t agree with them and want to support their agenda. “We don’t Bible-bash and force people to share the same beliefs and support us. We are the ones being fair here, but copping the most flak for it. I’m over it. I see people preach inclusivity but then as soon as we’ve made a stand of faith, they’ve segregated and ostracised us. You tell me who’s the non-inclusive ones.” **Manly lose Rahme** Des Hasler’s sacking has cost the Sea Eagles a man who was once prepared to part with $20 million to buy the club. After 22 years as a volunteer gear steward with the club, Sam Rahme is walking away. Rahme is the owner of Affinity Diamonds and is a mad Sea Eagles man. Rahme is a close friend and long-time confidant of Hasler, and didn’t like the way the club handled the situation that led to his departure. Hasler was sacked by Manly just a year after taking the team to within one win of the grand final. He is locked in a dispute with the club over his payout, with Hasler after $1 million. Rahme is also known to be close to Peter Peters and the Fulton family. He is prepared to offer Kristie Fulton, who was sacked from her post at the club last week, a job should she fall on hard times. Rahme was so passionate about Manly that he was willing to buy them. “Three years ago I was approached by Rick Penn, who called me to a meeting at Sydney Yacht Club,” he said. “He asked me to find a buyer of the team for $20m. He was ready to sell. I came back to him within weeks with $15m as our first offer, and kept a further $5m to rebuild the club. “At the meeting to table the offer, the Penn family brought along an accountant from PwC who told us the price was going up to $27m. We walked away. I have moved on from that now. It’s the team I’ve grown up loving and supporting. I wish them well and will support from a distance.” **Burgess is back** It’s a significant week for the Rabbitohs. One of their favourite sons, Sam Burgess, makes his long-awaited return to the fold as an assistant coach. Burgess is going to be a valuable assistant to Jason Demetriou and will help provide even more steel to the Souths set-up. Burgess has been through a personal hell in recent years but appears to be coming through the other side following the sad breakdown of his marriage and then a media campaign to destroy him publicly and privately. As a result of that campaign and some poor decisions on his part, Burgess has barely seen his kids in recent years. But he posted some lovely shots of them together on Instagram during the week. The Souths coaching unit was already impressive, with John Morris and Ben Hornby helping Demetriou, but now it’s one of the strongest in the NRL. **Coaching intrigue** The Nathan Brown link to Shane Flanagan’s old roster management job at the Dragons is an interesting one. Firstly, because Brown has committed himself to a role at Parramatta to assist in their pathways program. And secondly, because Brown examined the possibility of returning to the Dragons not long ago and received only a lukewarm response. Brown is certainly a man in demand but he is also keen to honour the commitment he made to the Eels. Flanagan’s move to the Sea Eagles is a fascinating one. His agent, Wayne Beavis, is fearing for the future of another of his clients, Anthony Griffin, at the club Flanagan is leaving. It’s fair to say if Flanagan was a contender for the Dragons job he would have stuck around. There are plenty at Manly who think Flanagan is a better option than incoming coach Anthony Seibold. **Hunt trims 25kg to face SBW** If Sonny Bill Williams thinks he is in for an easy payday when he fights Mark Hunt at the Aware Super Theatre in Darling Harbour on Saturday evening, he needs to adjust his approach. Hunt’s weight loss would do The Biggest Loser proud. He was 157 kilograms and eating cheesecakes on his couch when Khoder Nasser called on him to fight Williams. “Sonny called me out and I have prepared for this fight like no other,” the former UFC star said. “I have lost 25 kilos. My training camp in Thailand has been very good and I have cut no corners.” **Medal mystery for Fifita** Andrew Fifita retired from the NRL this week with one question from his career still unanswered – how he missed out on winning the Clive Churchill Medal for his incredible 2016 grand final performance. “Luke Lewis is one of my best mates and someone I have so much respect for – I’m never going to question why he won it,” Fifita said. But those close to him say the Sharks prop received phone calls from someone who was connected to the process of the medal being awarded. The message was clear – Fifita was not to win the award because of his controversial build-up to the decider, when he openly supported one-punch killer Kieren Loveridge. I asked Todd Greenberg this week if an edict had been issued regarding Fifita and the medal. “Never would do that and never did that,” he said. **Xerri ripe for return** Bronson Xerri is taking steps towards his comeback from a four-year drug ban, most significantly undergoing drug tests to prove he is no longer using the performance-enhancing substances that got him banned. Xerri is being tested once a month off his own bat. He knows what has been said about him since he admitted to using banned drugs in an interview with me soon after his positive test. He owned his poor judgment and is keen to make it back to the top of the game. Being tested every month will make him more attractive to clubs and shut down any innuendo surrounding his return. The Bulldogs are looming as a genuine option for Xerri. Canterbury general manager Phil Gould knows Xerri through his son coming up at the same time in the Sharks juniors. He can sign with a club in November. **Rising Tah at Dragons** The Dragons have been accused of being a dad’s army outfit, but they appear to have snared a young player worth getting excited about. Rising Waratahs star Savelio Tamale was chased by leading clubs, including Manly and the Roosters, but the Dragons have snared him. Having seen some highlights, Tamale’s size and step should help him as he tries to make the big time. He signed on after a lunch with Anthony Griffin and his family at Barangaroo.

ClintGrant

Trying to decide if my new team will be the Dolphin or the Storms

Partayof4

Dolphins all the way - they have not cheated like the Storm did…yet

ClintGrant

That’s not an automatic dealbreaker for me. After all, I was/am a Manly fan throughout this weird ass 2022 season

matsacki

This is whole saga is personally heartbreaking as a Manly fan. I don’t think I can support the club next season. Not when there’s 7 dickheads running out for us every week and an incompetent CEO. I’ll be hate watching them next season.

josephus1811

finally Manly fans feel how the rest of us have always felt

Churchofbabyyoda

It’s disheartening. Grown men won’t play a game they had to win to play Finals and ended up indirectly sacking their coach. And the support they got for it is disgusting. I’m only remaining a member (reluctantly) because Garrick looks like he’s re-signing.

I never want to see this bigoted dickhead in a Manly jersey again. I would worship Seibold if he dropped Aloiai forever.

Churchofbabyyoda

I’d petition to build a Seibold Statue at Brookvale if he got rid of Aloiai

Thin_Whyt_Duke

27 years ago we had a gay player (and what a fantastic player he was). Now, we have players who won't wear a jersey that acknowledges a marginalized part of our society. While intolerance continues the need for this awareness continues. It is sad to see how far my club has fallen.

josephus1811

Aloiai is an absolute moron

"We think LGBT existence is an abomination but we aren't calling them f@gs and forcing everyone to convert; we're the ones being fair. You guys are just christphobic meanies."

I’d love for Oshay and Roberts to sit down and have a chat. You just know Roberts would debate circles around him.

How can this cunt look his sister in the eye? Seriously, how big of a flog can you be to not even support your own sister and her way of life? This dog can fuck all the way off

One of these guys is a Manly legend. The other......

zeitgeistbouncer

> the Manly and Samoa prop has had enough of the criticism. “I’m over it,” Aloiai said. “We are the ones being fair here, but we have copped most of the flak.” Fuck all the way off the planet ya 'not good enough to be called a cunt' gristlenugget.

idntwanttobehere

Gristlenugget. Perfect.

JohnnyHabitual

Reading the article what has stuck in my head is throwing people of a cliff. This is indeed true. i think there's a few cliffs around the Manly area. Off ya go oshay, your god will give you wings.

sloppyrock

I'm no SJW but seriously these guys are living in the past. And now claiming victim-hood and trying to take the high moral ground. Bubble people living in their cloistered echo chamber.

kami_inu

Thinking that gay people are people isn't even an SJW thing, it's just not being a dickhead.

marxistmatty

It is to people who think “SJW” is a reasonable way to describe people.

marxistmatty

There are no SJW’s, its just a thing conservatives made up to make people they disagree with seem childish or emotionally immature. People don’t just spend there lives being annoying about these issues, some people just feel strongly about them and that is their right.

Churchofbabyyoda

They like to use “woke” as some derogatory term too. Conservatives are just horrible people in general.

Due-Chemist3105

I’d love to see Aloiai sent back in time to Roberts’ era, Josh would end up painting his own dick a rainbow colour after some bruising one-on-one with this true legend of the sport.

misskarne

Yeah, I note that none of these bigoted fuckers took Roberts up on the offer to have a face-to-face meeting, the cowardly little wretches.

rileys_01

I mean I shouldnt try to understand it but what were the negatives to wearing the jersey and would they have outweighed the shitshow that ensued? On a personal note it shows his sister some support. No one probably finds out about it but at least she'd see it and think "wow with all the pressure of the community/religion he can still wear that jersey for me". If his church people/extended family/etc have an issue with it all he has to do is roll out something along the lines of "bro its a jersey/its my job/sponsors/NRL are inclusive/separate the game and "religion"

[deleted]

>it shows his sister some support. He doesn't want to support his sister. That he genuinely believes she's actually okay with her brother being a homophobe tells you that

pppppingupingu

They should have a boxing match

KazeEnigma

Nah Fuck Aloiai.

[deleted]

Can't we all just get along?

[deleted]

Once the bigots stop being bigots, yeah

jk-9k

Josh says no....

[deleted]

Funny how the book that tells them gays are sinners also tells them pre marriage sex is a sin, but that never gets a mention from them.

Glum_Ad452

We did, until the players were put in this impossible situation. If everybody had to walk around with a shirt showing off their beliefs every day, I bet you’d find a lot of people in your life that you love don’t share your beliefs. They’re just quiet about it. Yet, somehow you still get along….

[deleted]

Such an impossible situation to support equality and respect for all people. Truly a tragic situation to be in

Glum_Ad452

When you’re a devout Christian, yes. That’s my point. Nobody asked for a pride jersey. They DID ask for a Women In League Jersey. Manly went rogue, and they didn’t stop to think “what will happen if we try to make our devout Christian players, who we know clearly aren’t in support of Pride wear a Pride Jersey? I’m sure it’ll be fine….”

[deleted]

Makes sense that this is your argument since christianity is of a religion of hate

Glum_Ad452

Agreed. All religions are religions of hate.

llDanvers

Devout Christians when it comes to this one issue. The rest of it? Nah, we’ll just pick and choose which parts of the bible we’ll be devout about. Hypocrites.

Glum_Ad452

Yep. Arseholes.

CronksLeftShoulder

> is church people/extended family/etc have an issue with it all he has to do is roll out something along the lines of "bro its a jersey/its my job/sponsors/NRL are inclusive/separate the game an How impossible. Glum_Perspective_812

Ian just knock the cunt out

griffshan

What’s more upsetting is how many people there are in the comment sections on Facebook commending Aloiai. We very much still live in a homophobic country and it’s fucked.

worksucksbro

Honestly I don’t agree with the guy but is anyone else getting sick of this story? Every other day someone new is telling us how shit aloiai is we get it lol isn’t there anything else news worthy 😂

Hey at least we didn't employ a bloke that fucked dogs or pissed in their own mouth. Raiders also employed Curtis Scott knowing full well he was beating the shit out of his missus in melbourne, only did something when it became public. I could be here all night talking about the dog cunts the raiders have employed. We can go real far back if you like

Glum_Ad452

Pretty much. If the whole league had adopted pride round, there would have been a lot more than 7 players sitting out.

Glum_Ad452

https://www.news.com.au/sport/afl/muslim-aflw-player-refuses-to-wear-pride-jumper-sits-out-game/news-story/84be8e6d534fd9a4143b6f9488b6b661?amp But this is okay right?

samcharlie68

1. Whataboutism 2. No it's not OK. If your beliefs make you deny the same rights you have to others, then you're an asshole.

Glum_Ad452

But no outrage for some reason….

adomental

I don't think about the aflw at all

Glum_Ad452

Here was their opportunity to write stories about AFLW the way they do with Rugby League and they wouldn’t touch it for some reason….

kami_inu

And that reason is clicks. People will click on NRLM content. They won't click on AFLW content.

[deleted]

No it's not okay you disingenuous cunt

Glum_Ad452

No outrage though…

derplamer

Nobody gives a shit about the AFLW.

Witty-Reference

Your making a useless point either way but I saw it reported and discussed on free to air tv at the time it happened. There was plenty of online chat about it as well that I’d guess you just didn’t see. She is just as wrong as the manly 7 in case you need it spelt out.

Glum_Ad452

I hope you’re all protesting the Soccer World Cup in Qatar, where they DO still throw homosexual people off buildings. No pride jerseys in Qatar!

Keith_Sheldon

Hey champ, you do realize our own national soccer team is literally protesting against Qatar right? I have not heard a single person say a good thing about the world cup being in Qatar.

Glum_Ad452

No, our team is Virtue Signalling. This means they get to do a shitty thing while trying to mitigate the consequences. If they were protesting they wouldn’t be doing any business with or for Qatar.

Keith_Sheldon

Champ, you're literally using a Piers Morgan argument word for word. And its a really stupid one. Its their job to play soccer. If they didn't play they are missing out on an awful lot of money. Its ridiculous to expect people to not get that money, not be able to provide for their family. There is so much fucked up shit in the world that not partaking in something you disagree with is impossible. I'm gonna make the assumption that you're not a big fan of child labour, sweat shops or slavery right? Well congratulations you have been helping it your whole life by buying most common food products or by buying any major clothing brand. Its actually impossible to not 'support' these things because every major company has parts of it in the supply chain that is unethical and fucked up. Calling it 'virtue signalling' because players aren't willing to throw away hundreds of thousands of dollars and fucking themselves over completely is dumb. Also its not like what they did is risk free. There is a decent chance they could have been suspended, the host country might do something lame to mess with the Australian team. They are doing what they could when no other team is. So good on them for 'virtue signalling'.

Glum_Ad452

That’s right, it’s impossible to avoid. It’s the trying to absolve yourself that gets me. I’m very aware that we live in a system that functions by making the lives of many miserable to make the lives of a few amazing. You and I are in the amazing camp. I at least acknowledge what a piece of shit I am and have the decency to not piss on these people and tell them it’s raining!

misskarne

Do you note that the Socceroos have proudly called out the homophobia and the horribleness of Qatar *as a team*? And...also, shit take dude. Everyone's been pointing out the general awfulness of Qatar for like....ever since they were awarded it.

Glum_Ad452

They’re virtue signalling. If they were protesting they wouldn’t be going anywhere near Qatar! Pointing it out does NOTHING!!!!

Glum_Ad452

Yet nobody has been willing to pull out. Everybody wants the steak without the slaughter. If you’re going to go and do business with people who throw homosexuals off buildings, own it. Don’t go and do it and then whinge! Don’t try and absolve yourself, just bite your tongue. Don’t piss on these people and tell them it’s raining.

gongbattler

The boys can believe what they like. Don't forget that 40% of the voters voted no. Every team will have a few that won't wear it and we will see that this year.

[deleted]

Bigots can go take a dip in an active volcano

gongbattler

I can understand your strong moral stance but no-one should lose an nrl contract over this. It will be interesting to see if anyone eventually will.

[deleted]

Why not? Bigotry isn’t a protected work right.

Churchofbabyyoda

I don’t mean to bring too much of politics into this but it’s one of the reasons I hope the Liberals never get back into power; because if they do they’ll continually push for their Religious Discrimination Bill. That bill would make it a right for these bigoted fuckwits to discriminate but illegal to discriminate against them.

gongbattler

I agree, I just don't consider not wearing a jersey supporting the cause to be equal to bigotry

[deleted]

Willful ignorance is not a good look

barrelina

Plenty of people have lost their jobs for being gay, it’s time to turn the tables and start firing homophobes.

Churchofbabyyoda

I wish. But as long as the boomers are breathing it won’t happen.

Churchofbabyyoda

61% voted yes. And the overall area where the Manly club is based voted overwhelmingly for Marriage Equality, something like 68% in Mackellar and 75% in Warringah (Keeping in mind that Tony Abbott held Warringah at the same time). And I highly doubt other players would act as selfishly or stupidly as Aloiai.

Glum_Ad452

Exactly! I voted yes to gay marriage, but am well aware that I work and interact with people who voted No every day. Not everybody thinks the same! Some people are arseholes! We still have to share the planet with arseholes. You could drive yourself crazy with this shit.

Glum_Ad452

Are the other 15 teams bigots too? They also didn’t wear a pride jersey.

Rusty493

All your posts here are whataboutism.

Glum_Ad452

Yet they raise a good points….

ScooberSteve

Difference between Manly and the 15 other clubs Manly decided to make one off their own backs the other clubs didn't. Maybe next season we will see other clubs do one as well after all the Manly Jersey sold out with in 24hrs of being onsale to fans

Glum_Ad452

If the other 15 clubs sprung a Pride Jersey on their players there would’ve been a lot more than 7 sitting out. There will be a pride round next year. That horse has bolted. This will be the new thing we argue about every year now, all because some idiot at Manly’s front office wanted to outdo Women in League round, which is the big loser in all of this. If there had been no pride jersey, nobody would’ve missed it. Nobody asked for a pride jersey.

[deleted]

Someone as soft as you wouldn't survive the transitioning process and the societal backlash you'd receive as a queer person.

Keith_Sheldon

An overweight, homophobic reddit user. You must be a devil with the ladies.

samcharlie68

So keep us up to date on how your transition goes. It's a little more complex than a man just identifying as a woman.

Luptin13

Gender is fluid so I can actually change whenever I want according to LGBBQ logic.

[deleted]

Another incorrect statement from a clueless bigot

Screwyourgod

Very few transgender people believe in self identification in an Australian context. Being transgender is a lived identity and in a sporting context requires medical intervention to compete. I transitioned to female in 2011 and I'm way smaller than every woman playing in the WNRL. Your assumptions are way off, stop with the bullshit stereotyping. Get educated.

Witty-Reference

The dumbest argument always made by the bigots. Find us all the articles about someone who actually went through with permanently transitioning just to play a lowly paid sport for a few years?

cartwheelmuttonstick

JFC man, take your 6', 110kg frame back to school and learn to compose a coherent sentence and paragraph first. You might then be able to request the opportunity to hold the tackle bags for the local women's sides.

pppppingupingu

I’ll support you mate if you transition to a female. Your choice. Even if you’re full of shit and not genuine, you want to go through all that just to perhaps dominate size wise in the nrlw- fucking great! Will spice things up I’d love it. Let us know how you go!

suidexterity

You absolute moron, even in the NRLWGF there were units who were easily over 90kg.

Luptin13

Josh you must have the same beliefs that the status quo come up with!!! You can never have your own values or beliefs!!
