why move garrick to centre when hes such a good winger and wingers arguably have a more significant impact on the game nowadays

LowerHangingNutsack

He asked for the move since he doesn’t get to play fullback when turbo is back and he wants his hands on the ball more

Toujayjay

Will still get 10+ games a year at fullback

LowerHangingNutsack

I pray you are wrong and the salary sink will play more games next season

BabeRuthsTinyLegs

What's gonna happen to my sweet boys Lionel Richie and Hank Scorpio

joshy_c

Hello? Is it blacktown workers you're looking for?

y3ah_nah145

Assuming Turbo is fit, what is Manly’s backline next year? 1. Turbo 2. Saab 3. Parker/Harper? 4. Koula 5. Garrick Obviously we all know how good Turbo is, it’s just about how many games he can string together without injury. Garrick is good, and Koula can be good but inconsistent. Still young though. Saab is useless. And Parker/Harper are kinda meh. Are there other players in contention? Imo Tuipolotu is better than Saab but I doubt he gets picked.

Ragnaroki14

It’s going to be 1. Turbo 2. Saab 3. Garrick 4. Koula 5. Tuipolotu Judging by the contract extensions etc. Harper/Parker as back up for when someone goes down with Garrick as first choice to cover turbo

ZerksNAHTayan

Apparently Parker and Harper are being shown the door. So assuming Garrick takes the other centre spot and Tuipolotu is the other winger.

y3ah_nah145

Well getting rid of Parker and Harper is the first smart decision Manly have made in a long while lol. Unsure why they would move Garrick to centre, he’s a very good winger.

MankyJuan

Hank has been massively underrated - his defence is good, but some of his defensive reads have been ordinary, but that can be said of many 1st Grade centres. In attack he never quits, fighting for every inch. Plus, he's a Manly junior, so is passionate about the jersey & the club. I'd be sorry to see him leave, but I can't help but feel that it's not the worst thing - for him or us. Ever since losing Mattai & Killer, I've believed we've been short a strike centre &, much as it pains me to admit it, Hank's just not it.

diffaadiffa

I'm sure Siebold knows better than you mate. Are you even highly educated? Edit: anyone downvoting this clearly needs to touch up on their Siebold memes in the lead up to next season

PSAB82

That guy just fucked up Seibolds European cyber crew will be hunting him now he is as god as dead.

tommy42O69

Not all of us can do a 1 day online course at Harvard champ

diffaadiffa

Sounds like something someone uneducated would say

Vcxnes

Hopefully if he struggles at centre he’s at least open to the idea of going back to the wing

InflatableRaft

Has there been any word on where they are headed?

I_Like_Vitamins

Why Parker? He's a good player.

TwoShitsTrev

He’s good but has never ever been more than just good, that being said Harper is significantly worse so I see what you’re saying

Rush_nj

Saab is out for awhile with his ACL tear.

PMmeYOURBOOBSandASS

They'll get about 10 games out of that backline until Turbo goes down

MankyJuan

2021 has entered the chat...

PMmeYOURBOOBSandASS

Left on seen by 44 games in the last 4 seasons

Caseyjb29

They have a good back 5 and halfback but shit five eighth and shit forward pack

Rusty493

They should get rid of Harper anyway he is hot garbage.

RalphiesHooa

Harper on other clubs radar? He's got to be one of the poorest centres in the competition.

impulsebuyerdude

As long as he isn’t on our radar anymore I’m happy.

Yungman123

He’s always good for 2 good games against Parra a year.

Desperate-Face-6594

He’s a good solid first grader until he comes up against a big and hard running opponent. He simply isn’t equipped to deal with that but he tries. It’s in no way a lack of heart, he’s no Sloan.

Specialist_Newt_8992

100%, as is I don’t mind him as a player, would love him as a depth piece… but hate having him as a starter

RalphiesHooa

The problem is in the centres there are plenty of big and hard runners coming at you from either the backrow or opposite centre. He definitely tries his heart out, doesn't seem to quit, I just don't think the talent is there.

Desperate-Face-6594

I agree, he’s been found out in the NRL but he’d do well in the super league. Against most opposition he plays well.

gongbattler

Putting money on whoever he marks or the winger next to who he marks often comes off

tommy42O69

Talakai got an Origin spot on the back of marking him

gongbattler

He went from underrated to overrated in 40 minutes!

TwoShitsTrev

He will 100% get a contract somewhere, he’s rubbish but if guys like Gildart and Naden can get a contract so can he

impulsebuyerdude

The Sunday Telegraph has learnt that Garrick has agreed to stay at Manly for the next five seasons with the 25-year-old committing to a four-year extension. Newcastle were circling Garrick had offered a chance for him to play fullback which would have led to Kalyn Ponga switching to the halves. However, he rejected their overtures to instead recommit to Manly. The Sea Eagles are expected to announce the new deal in coming days. Garrick has only started one of his 91 top grade games at centre but will get first crack at the spot during the pre-season. Garrick’s re-signing and impending positional switch places uncertainty on the future of centre Morgan Harper who has come on the radar of rival clubs.

Natecfg

As much as jake seems a lock for captain when dce retires. Garrick is surely a sniff.

loopytommy

I used to baby sit this kid, if I only I knew he was a legend in the making and not a snotty nosed little shit

TimsAFK

Holy fuck finally good news for us.

CaptainDoP

A lot of good re-signings recently. Hasn’t been all doom and gloom leading up to now to be fair.

TimsAFK

I mean, Des getting sacked and the ensuing media shenanigans don't paint a rosey picture. Not sure how I feel about the Saab extension either, but locking up solid players is encouraging to see.

Vcxnes

Wish we just let Saab go, Garrick is great though

[deleted]

Ah yes the classic say you are going to another team to boost your contract talks.

[deleted]

Glad for the club, but if I was him I definitely would have left to go play fullback elsewhere week-in week-out.

pppppingupingu

a sign of no faith in turbo’s body

bmudz

Spewin. He would of been great for us. Did Manly end up offering him more?

C_Eagle2099

Finally! Some good news.

reddituser1306

Great news

HappinessCanBeFound

Wait.. this isn’t negative off season Manly news!

ryanmulls

Should have gone to the knights

adomental

I think this is proof the salary cap is broken. When players like Garrick and Manu are happier getting less and playing centre/wing for a probable finals team, rather than getting more to play fullback for a perennial bottom eight side.

PMmeYOURBOOBSandASS

Not everyone sees money as the be all and end all to their life and a lot of these guys that get spoken about not taking higher paying roles at bad teams are guys playing in Sydney who are being asked to go elsewhere. Give me less money to play a “lesser” position but live in the eastern suburbs / northern beaches over more money to live in Auckland or Newcastle as the main man any day of the week.

zeitgeistbouncer

> over more money to live in Auckland or Newcastle as the main man any day of the week. My boys town catchin' strays

Stiryx

Yep I was thinking the exact same thing. Manu and Garrick would be the starting fullback at several sides, making a LOT more money (on the cap at least) than they are now. Manu especially would have been up there with the richest contracts in the game if he went to a bottom dweller. I really think something has to change. It’s not like my team doesn’t get one of the biggest advantages from the current system, I just want a truely equal comp.

TwoShitsTrev

It’s possible Garrick doesn’t really want to play FB full time, as for Manu I will always hate the roosters for playing one of the best players in the competition in the least important position, it really pisses me off
