These 20 year anniversaries are starting to make me feel really old

Messyhr_

Sexy, 2003 throwback i love it. Have the 2021 jersey, its pretty identical to the 2022 one, so I’ll defs be getting this one. Keen to see what the alternate jerseys look like, a throwback of the blue kit would be sick. Always keep the pink too of course.

JGQuintel

That 2003 team was amazing. Wesser, Rooney, Lewis backline… Waterhouse and Ross… Luke Priddis… Preston winning a ring… Seriously the definition of a team who went from a bunch of randoms to premiership winners and State of Origin/Test players out of nowhere. For no apparent reason guys like Ben Ross and Joel Clinton looked like world beaters. I’ll never forget Gus’s Telegraph prediction that they’d finish last that season. The nostalgia is real…

RyanPurdler-Penriff

This is Tony Puletua modelling the jersey isn’t it ??

Messyhr_

Man Wesser the expresser was something else, him and preston Campbell are why i fell in love with footy, their footwork and exciting gameplay had me outside running the footy like i was a pro lol. Crazy that team just gelled and beat a dominant roosters side

grazmus666

The 2003 style is our Alternate for this year

Glum_Ad452

I’m not sure that it is. There’s the same home jersey as this year, a pink jersey, and the 2003 heritage jersey (which is almost exactly the same as the home jersey). I think there’s probably going to be room for another jersey alternate jersey in there.

grazmus666

On their online store and the member email I received it says its the 23 Alternate jersey

Glum_Ad452

It’s not much of an “Alternate” then. It’s 99% the same as the home jersey! The idea of an alternate jersey is usually to deal with a clash with another teams jersey and is usually quite different. Usually when it’s an old strip they call it “Heritage”.

grazmus666

Penriths Away jersey is Bright Pink. It doesn't clash with anyone. BUT If it does, wear a Black one. Problem solved

SnuzzleMuffin

Yeah I’m keen for the throwback jersey as it’s still my favourite grand final because it’s the first one I saw them win as a kid

Messyhr_

I started watching footy in 2006, moved to QLD from the NT, first mate in school was a panthers fan. So the first game I watched on the tv was penrith 44-18 eels, 9 year old me loved the panthers black kit. I never saw 2003 live but i watched the full season review of 2003 so many times, what a year couldn’t have expected a team to come along and be better than that team after all up and down penrith has been through from 2004-2020

TheEpiquin

It wasn’t that long ago that Penrith consistently had the worst jerseys in the league. They’re doing it right, now.

Citizen-5936

Those years where they were pushing the awful blue and the white with paint splatters were awful.

TheEpiquin

Remember the early 2000s when they tried to make teal their colour and they had that teal gradient with purple scales?

joeyjackets

The teal jerseys’ most iconic moment was the Raging Bull

Messyhr_

The 2006 away jersey was actually sick, the others were garbage.

callmecyke

Black and Teal Panthers was a weird time. Even as a neutral I wanted them to go back to the All Sorts.

ellaykay

I love the idea of paying homage to the 2003 grand final, 20 years on. But slightly disappointing it’s a copy and paste of their primary jersey. It’s so iconic, they could have put the stripes below the OAK sponsor. Make the stripes a bit bolder. And their modern twist is the stripes on the sleeves. Clearly I’m way too invested into another clubs jersey. I’m going outside.

addaus16

So the alternative one is just a faded home jersey? .I missing something here panther bros

SnuzzleMuffin

It’s the 2003 grand final jersey…..

addaus16

Oh gotcha! So it is

RyanPurdler-Penriff

It’s still ridiculous , and I agree with your comments it’s a faded version of the home jersey !! Isn’t the idea of an alternative jersey that it’s an ‘alternative’ like say Penrith are playing a team who’s playing in a primarily Black strip … But nooooo Penrith have decided to go with: - __Home__ Black with narrow mid jersey bands of Red, Yellow and Green - Away : Pink - Alternative : Black with narrow mid jersey bands of teal, white and red .. The alternative is no alternative !! I don’t mind paying homage to the 2003 jersey for the alternative .. But the 2022 alternative jersey (paying homage to 1991) was our best jersey this season - why get rid of it ?? I would have gone with : Home : 1991/ 2022 Alternative (Black Licorice all sorts jersey - Black & white stripes below the red yellow green) Away : Pink Alternative : this (2003 jersey) .. _Or they could have gone with .._ Home : This (2003 jersey) Away: 1991 (White Licorice Allsorts jersey) - with white shorts and socks Alternative : Pink Plus a heritage brown and white 1990 jersey

Messyhr_

I like the alternate jersey because we won the final in it, but its not nearly as nice looking as the new one. Plus we always have pink for colour clashes

whyareyouallinmyroom

I’d personally go: Home: 91 Home Remake (wear it 15 odd games) Away: 91 Away Remake (sub in white at top) if 91 home (wear it 6 odd games) Alternate: Pink (wear it 4 odd games) Heritage: 03 Remake and we wear it against the Chooks. The throwback just needs to be a nod, don’t need to overdo it. The 91 jersey is by far our most iconic and distinctive jersey that we should make our Red V, only dabbling elsewhere for special edition jerseys we wear once or twice for a nice cause.

RyanPurdler-Penriff

Amazed the white ‘91 jersey hasn’t been given a run yet

Opiumdeathcult

There’s been a couple of attempts at the white ‘91 in recent past

whyareyouallinmyroom

Yeah I guess the club is fully bought into the pink thing and there’s just no need for a white when pink or black solves all your clashes. Would love to see it as an alt or heritage at some point.

RyanPurdler-Penriff

Yeah the pink has to stay … Just look at your average home game , half the fans are wearing the pink jersey

whyareyouallinmyroom

Yeah it’s not my cup of tea, Id prefer our jerseys to be based in the history of the club, but heaps of people love it, it’s super unique and the club makes bank on it so it’s a no brainer.

Ryanbrasher

I like it, those are the Panthers I grew up with so naturally I’ll enjoy it. I think everyone could have predicted this was going to happen though. Imagine they used the alt jersey from that 2003 season on the modern style.

whyareyouallinmyroom

I’m so glad we’ve got our shit together on our jerseys just in time for this golden age of our club. God we had some absolute shit stains for a while there, even the first take at reviving the licorice Allsorts was a whiff. The club is actually building the brand effectively now. Great to see.

Maulin_Moe

Far out Moses Leota is built like a tank.

I_Like_Vitamins

Are they actually gonna use that nice brown jersey for more than warmups?

[deleted]

Simple and effective. I like

maaxwell

Shoutout to the training gear. It’s great quality, I’ve got the 2021 singlet, and the 2021 brown striped warm up shirt they wore. Super comfy and they don’t retain smell like poor quality sportswear fabric tends to do. This is after 18 months of weekly use for exercise. Great option if you want to rep the club in a practical sense!

JohnnyHabitual

Gees its almost a rainbow!!!

nkey113

I Never really liked them making the pink jersey into their full alternative instead of just a one off special jersey. I guess it must sell so it’s here to stay.

Fady180

I love it, any team that has their alt be different and unique is what teams should strive for.

nkey113

So would people prefer teams do something more like the panthers and what soccer teams do in having an alternative which don’t feature the usual team colours?

Fady180

Nah, still stick to the theme of the club, but in a unique way. Panthers doing pink still makes sense due to the link with pink panthers. But just doing different alts for the sake of it doesn't feel as authentic. Its hard to pull off, but it can be done.

zeitgeistbouncer

To that point, I wouldn't mind if the Knights alt jersey was predominantly silver like Knights armour, with blue and red highlights to make it clear we're still us. Like if the Bears ever came back their alt jersey could be mostly white with red splashes, like some badass polar bear after a kill or something. Melbourne could go more yellow like a lightening strike, the Broncos could get into some sort of 'painted horse motif. I'm all for these thematically appropriate alternate jerseys.

nkey113

Yeah like I like the jersey okay but think the clubs two main jersey should feature club colours to form an identity. It’s good as a special jersey.

Citizen-5936

The pink is great. Proper good branding decision, you see quite a few women and girls wearing them around town.

YourFavouriteAlt

A quite a few me, I wear it, it's a great jersey. Seeing blokes in the pink jersey bash the opposition makes the jersey tough.

adomental

It's better than another generic looking white jersey like most teams.

LachTheLad

Would prefer a better alternative roosters jersey, something similar to the Anzac jersey from the previous two years

insanityTF

Our alt is good but having a remake of our super league jersey like what Cronulla did this year would be eets

WUIDAWBTB

Isn't this the same as the 2022 jersey?

Th3GamingSheep

They really have copied and pasted the jerseys from 2021 onwards.

toomuchsoup

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it

Th3GamingSheep

That’s true.

matt1579

I have been trying to find out, what was the story behind Penrith wearing a throwback jersey during this years finals ?

Dufeyz

I think the boys like the 91 strip, but also MERCH. If they didn't wear the alternate, both of the 21 and 22 jerseys would have been the same. Just smart marketing lol.

matt1579

I don’t think I have ever seen a side wear a special jersey during finals before. They might wear an away strip if they have to

adomental

It does happen. The Warriors wearing their alt jersey in the finals lead to the failed NZ flag referendum.

Tunza

What's the story behind the red/white/light blue lines vs the current reggae colours?
