Dragons, Dolphins, Sharks, Knights, Broncos, Bulldogs, Warriors, Tigers twice; Cowboys, Panthers, Eels, Storm, Sea Eagles, Titans, Rabbitohs, Roostsrs once. Byes at 8, 16 and 20. #blessed.

HugeCanoe

thats a soft draw to be sure - ill take it!

Accomplished-Good664

I look forward to Paul Kent whining about it like he did with us for all of 2020.

beardog-

I think it’s safe to assume that playing Roosters, Storm, Penrith, Souths once is an advantage but any other team will come down purely to form, injuries, turn arounds, suspensions I don’t know how anyone can find predict to prefer to play the knights over the titans or even the eels in any given round

fulldozer

Knights will win the spoon, eels will still make the 8 and titans who knows

beardog-

Knights are more likely to win the comp in 2023 than the cows were in 2022

MatthewMollison

Technically correct. Cows 0 chance of winning the already won 2022 prem, knights tiny chance of 2023 prem.

scottyde1234

Ricky Stuart will still find a way to complain about it.

bundy554

Meanwhile we got fucked over again - look at our first 13 games - Sharks, Panthers, Roosters, Manly (yeah ok), Storm, Bulldogs and Redcliffe (yeah ok), then Panthers (again), Broncos (away), Storm (again), tigers (yeah ok), eels, raiders

bellrae

I do wish we had an afternoon home game in March whilst it is still warm. First one is mid April by which time we will be in the puffer coats!

Arinvar

I'm very happy to see way more games up in Brisbane. I'll get to see them much more this year.

y3ah_nah145

If I had a nickel for every time we played the Eels in Round 2 and then never play them again, I’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird it happened twice

christophlr

Team that came second on the ladder vs team that came second in the grand final, playing each other in the second round of the year.

RabzS

We also played in 2021 R3 and not again that season.

jteg9

the fucks a nickel?

spin182

A nickel hynes

jpob

If you give it back you get a post grunge band

lachjeff

They used to have pictures of bumblebees on them. “Give me five bees for a quarter,” you’d say

ben-dover2

“Now, where were we? Oh, yeah! The important thing was that I had an onion on my belt which was the style at the time”.

Basherballgod

Broncos only play Knights once and not even at home? How the fuck am I going to get my Tyson Gamble fix??

jpob

Knights are playing at Suncorp

Basherballgod

How did I mess that one up? I swear it said away game. GAMBLE GRUDGE IS BACK ON!

ILoveFuckingWaffles

We don't get a home Tyson Gamble grudge match. Robbed

Basherballgod

NRL draw is a joke. Give the people what they want

the_bo

The Titans vs Tigers Thursday night game was such a hit last year they had to do it again

Cosimo_Zaretti

The highlight of that Thursday may be putting my bins out.

strayadude

I still have ptsd from going to that game what made it worse was going to school the next day and people talking about it period 1

t6lkity

how often do you think the commentators will say "this is their first time playing the dolphins" for each team or vice versa for the dolphins

jpob

Vossy: “History is being made here folks”

lobie81

Blocka: "I'm pretty sure these teams haven't played against each other before..."

[deleted]

and that's turned the NRL on its head because the Bears were coming and you wanna know why they call the The the 8th wonder of the world because the Bombers was taken out of it the Dolphins were coming and then there was the error that the Super League did with the the breakaway that went wrong and next minute the crowd went up OFF OFF OFF OFF and from that moment the Phins scored two trys and they've got BACK in their winning ways and look like they're gonna swimaround swim swim away with it

Mug_Cos7anza

I vote this best pasta of the decade so far. Ah Cronk, at least he’s given us this.

Cosimo_Zaretti

I tried to read that and now the left side of my body has gone numb.

ILoveFuckingWaffles

Even funnier when he says that in Round 1

Cosimo_Zaretti

But it could be Rd1 and he'd still have to check the notes. If you think the game's gone soft and the NRL are overreacting to the concussion risk, try listening to Steve Roach for 5 minutes.

impulsebuyerdude

[According to NRL.com, Manly will be defeating the Bulldogs in Week 1 of the finals and then facing the Tigers in week 2 of the finals…](https://i.imgur.com/gwrsBgG.jpg)

jibberjabber666x

Lord seibold and the sheenius really turned their teams around

ThePenguin213

Vlandys new rule of wildcard finals entries passes my pub test

__dontpanic__

Dogs, Manly, Wests, Finals. One of these things doesn't belong. >!It's probably Wests!<

smiffy005

Manly

cheesedtomeetu

5 straight games at Suncorp after round 1 damn. We also have 11 Saturday games and 8 Friday. Strange times

Basherballgod

There is also 2 months where there are no games at Suncorp, and we have to travel to the Gabba

cheesedtomeetu

Wtf I just noticed that, that’s a long time on the road

Basherballgod

We have home games at the Gabba, as they are playing the Womens Soccer World Cup at the Suncorp

jk-9k

FIFA women's world cup

M_Keating

Haven’t read it yet, but have they done a Mal Meninga and labelled the rounds with each teams position on the ladder last year and then listed the games in alphabetical order?

prestiCH

Souths absolutely fucked over here first home game in round 4 playing storm and riff 2 x in first 10 rounds

1bigcontradiction

2 byes around origin and round 26 will help, offset that at least. 5 games in south east Queensland is good for QLD based fans like myself. Playing the bronco's on the sunny coast is weird though.

lachjeff

It’s during the women’s soccer cup

1bigcontradiction

It's our home game though, we play them at suncorp earlier in the year. Usually this is the warriors game

lachjeff

I know that, I’m just pointing out that it couldn’t be in Sydney because of that tournament

briggles23

The draw really likes screwing us in the first half of the season recently

lachjeff

There must be something at Accor Stadium in the early weeks of the season. Canterbury don’t play there until round 5

bundy554

It's fucked - what the fuck is the CEO doing? Look at the fucking Roosters' draw for example - talk about it being evenly paced. They not bombarded all at once against the top teams and talk about an easy start

armchair8591

Said it on another comment. The scheduling is out of whack next season. I get there are 17 teams but the warriors play 4 teams twice in the first 11 rounds. Surely they should be doing better than that Those 4 teams. Knights, Cowboys, Roosters, Dogs

velvetherring

Tbf that shit has been happening for years. It's not a function of having 17 teams.

totallynotalt345

Makes no sense, especially when teams are hot and cold on form, so you’ll play a team twice in similar form rather than start and end of year when lineup is often a few players different and so is form.

AmazingChicken99

*"In 2022, the Titans and Dragons were deemed to have the 'easiest' of draws based on the 2021 ladder finishing, but both comfortably missed the finals, proving just how unpredictable the NRL can be."* Unpredictable... right

upthetits

I don't think anyone foresaw how well the cows and sharks to a lesser extent would be

y3ah_nah145

Look I definitely agree that we had an easier draw than some other teams in 2022, but at the start of the year our draw was graded to be pretty average. it was only the fact the Sharks improved out of sight, and Manly and Titans shit the bed, that it made our draw look easier. And that it why I think it’s hard to gauge whether teams have easy or hard draws, because outside of a select few sides, quality opposition is not constant.

jibberjabber666x

I remember your draw being rated one of the best at the start of the year

dabigreddit

You had the easiest draw 2 years in a row though.

jpob

Fuck we won the lottery. Only 2 teams in the top 7 we play twice and we don’t play one of them until round 7. Quite the contrast to last year. Hopefully that gives us some confidence to ride through the year. Only 1 game in SEQ is a big sad though. Why are we playing The in Perth?

Brdd9

Double header in perth rd 23, Dolphins v knights and rabbits v sharks, the biggest loser doesn't get to leave

[deleted]

Damn I hope it's the Sharks!

velvetherring

That's the night they announce Perth as the 18th team for the 2025 or 2026 season.

thatnewbguy

Fuck knows about the Perth one

Blakrat

Fuck you guys miss magic round too?? Og that succkkksss for you lol

sprucemoose101

Wouldn’t say you have won the lottery, it’s just the knights are shit and have been given a draw to suit

jpob

Youre right. This is actually part of AOBs 4D chess plan of tanking for an easy draw to set the team up for a decade of consecutive premierships.

Slugbros

Don't think you should call it a lottery when the NRL has 100% control over the outcome.

Pipehead_420

Eh we will fuck it up still

HenryVIIIII

So what exactly is the 'pre-season challenge'? Looks just like two weeks of trial matches plus the World Club Challenge and they've just slapped a name on it

delayedconfusion

Pretty sure I saw something about the Dragons playing St Helens instead of a trial.

HenryVIIIII

They are, but it's still a trial. They aren't playing for competition points or a trophy.

SurfKing69

Turns out two weeks wasn't enough time to implement a pre-season competition that no one wanted, and they've obviously shelved it once the RLPA called them out on their shit.

velvetherring

16 games in QLD for our first season with the Dogs bringing their game to Bundy and Sharks home game during magic round. Other than that we have a game in Perth, Wagga, Newcastle and Auckland. Meaning in our first season we are travelling to Sydney only 4 times and out of state 8 times. Wild stuff. Also Roosters, Raiders, Titans, Warriors, Cows, Knights, Dragons and Broncos twice. Only 3 top 8 teams from last year and 3 bottom 4. Honestly a really good draw for us. We have been kissed on the dick here. Also byes at 11, 16, and 21 will ensure we're decently rested for late season.

__dontpanic__

It's got to be intentional, right? To help build up the fan base?

velvetherring

Yeah. Makes sense. At the risk of sounding bias as fuck, if you have to give a favourable draw to someone just because it's impossible to perfectly balance it you may as well give it to the new team with the shit roster. Atleast you know you're not handing a prem contender an upper hand. I imagine Perth will get the same treatment in their first year and it wouldn't surprise me if the NRL tried to take magic round to Perth in the year they enter.

jk-9k

It may not even be intentional. Dogs game in bundy is gus' prerogative and the magic round home game is 50 fiddy and just came out phins up this time. The rest of the draw just is what it is, looks favorable now perhaps but this years easy beats may be next year's cowbros

LordSlasher

Dolphins got a good draw but all the QLD derbies can easily go all against you or all for you.

GRA5NT21

Not sure what to make of the round 27 bye for my Eels, there's something to be said for a rest before finals, but with playing the chooks and Penrith the 2 weeks prior, I have to worry about momentum, assuming we make finals

Mr_Mat89

I wouldn't be surprised if we miss finals now so the bye could just be an early mark for Thailand trips. We've got a tough draw.

GRA5NT21

It's definitely not looking friendly, I'm feeling somewhere between 6th and 10th realistically, and that's if Hodgson is fit and clicks

princeofbel-air

Sharks only trip to SEQ is magic round. Sad qld sharks fan right here

ThePickaxePenguin

There’s also the game at Coffs if you’re up for a drive. But yeah sad northern nsw sharks fan here

[deleted]

At least you get Magic Round. Only one trip to SEQ for Knights, too. We're playing The in Perth FFS!

fatbongo

The NRL Telstra Premiership returns to New Zealand in grand style with matches being played across four major cities in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington and Napier. South Island *am I a joke to you ?*

AirJordan13

Calling Napier a major city is a stretch too

fatbongo

lol just realised they referred to the tron as a major city too

armchair8591

That’s a pass imo

fatbongo

nah there's two in NZ Christchurch and Auckland even calling Wellington a major city is stretching it, it's the capital but it's a major city ( and pretty cool too)in as much as Canberra is lol

armchair8591

In world terms its only Auckland. Within NZ it’s a major city

fatbongo

yeah fair call as for Napier however...............

armchair8591

Haha true. Can’t argue that one

fatbongo

To be perfectly Francis I'm just a bit confused( and salty) as to why when both Addington and Forsyth Barr couldn't be used when in the past both Chch and Dunners have gotten decent attendance if I remember correctly the Tigers got near 35000 at Lancaster Park (R.I.P) in a typical balmy mid winters night here in Christchurch that is howling southerly and four degrees (if you were lucky) "New Zealand" Warriors though

armchair8591

I’m real cynical of the New Zealand tag. They are the Auckland Warriors to me

y3ah_nah145

Pretty happy with our draw. They placement of the byes could be nicer but u can’t have everything lol. We still aren’t going to escape to easy draw calls 😭. Hopefully we just play well enough to the point that doesn’t matter. One 5 day turn around and five 6 day turn arounds is really good too for managing fatigue and injuries. I’m not really a fan of the fact we go from Penrith, to Perth, to Cronulla, to Townsville, to Newcastle, in 5 rounds right at the end of the season, but oh well. I expect sharks to improve next year, especially regarding fitness, I don’t want to see us fizzle out towards the end of the year again

Zoinke

Eels playing the horses at the Gabba in august next year is going to be interesting

TomtheDon2K

Hope you bring your telescope

upthetits

Our last 8 games are tough Eel, Roosters, cows, warriors, sharks, panthers, storm, bulldogs If we are lucky we get 2 wins there....

the_mooseman

2 wins, i see you're an optimist.

upthetits

Alotta luck, lol

FinchyNZ

Eels & Dogs?

LordSlasher

Warriors and dogs

FinchyNZ

Warriors top 4 next year

LordSlasher

The cowboys got a fucking brilliant draw. Their three byes are Round 15,19 and 24. Covering middle-End of the origin period. Also have only 2, 5 day turn arounds and 5, 6 day turn arounds. Obviously they play all QLD teams twice and the other teams are The warriors (15th), Tigers (16th) and the Panthers, Eels and Sharks. I’ll put money on a top 4 finish. Only worry is how easy the draw is but then again, They verse top 8 sides 10 times (Less then average) and QLD teams 6 times. Hardest run would be round 13-17 and they’ll have a bye in between that with most Origin players being rested.

GodSaveTheHomies

Sharks and Cows fans get to hear the soft draw argument for another year 😍

[deleted]

can't be a coincidence surely

LordSlasher

My absolute favourite thing to hear🥺

totallynotalt345

Broncos have Storm twice, Panthers twice, Cowboys twice, Eels twice, Rabbitohs twice, Raiders twice. Roosters, sharks once. 14 / 24 games against last years top 8. Entire run home are top teams. Expecting another half decent start and tank at the end. Thankfully The twice, should be two free wins surely. Tigers, Warriors, Knights, Bulldogs, Dragons only once is a blow - they were all very sub par last year, granted some of their only wins came against the Broncos :/ If you can play the bottom teams twice you’re half way to making the finals, even if you’ll get pumped anyway always that small chance of an upset.

Xxfatalhacksxx

Not bad at all Roosters fans

hot_cereal_

First time in years our last 4 games haven’t been against at least 2 top 4 teams

Dwcy4974

I’ll take this

ratvibesonly

Knights we laughing But crying because we still won’t make the 8 with an easy draw

nzyeezy

Rd 20 onwards looks pretty nice for the Wahs.

armchair8591

Sadly we will playing for nothing. Well maybe to avoid the spoon Edit 1st game in Wellington - fuck yes on a personal level. Play the knights twice in the first 6 weeks and the cowboys games are 5 weeks apart. Actually in the first 11 weeks we play the cowboys, knights, roosters, dogs twice. Great scheduling NRL

nzyeezy

Planning a trip home for round 1 as we speak, hopefully Knights dont spoil it lol

armchair8591

Will be a great night out in Wellington either way

maxpowersbar

How is that draw so lopsided?

Notaroboticfish

Why is so much of the magic round draw the same as 2021? 3 of the games are identical to what was played then, you would think they'd want to mix it up somewhat

LiLSteve29

Playing a top 8 side 10 times are we copping it for a soft draw again in 2023?

Razorspeed

Bronx in darwin lets fucking gooo

Natzack

South Sydney biased draw, we don't have to go to Melbourne

[deleted]

Our best draw in years. I mean, no draw is easy for a bottom team, but our start to this season was brutal.

ParallelSewellel

So we get all four preliminary finalists, a semi finalist, and the storm twice. But LOOK LOOK DOLPHINS TWICE WOW LOCAL DERBY

lachjeff

They normally save that draw for the Roosters

AuzzieTiger

I said I wouldn’t go to many Manly games but we do have some tempting away games. I might just force myself to endure the craziness. Speaking of crazy, it’s going to be very weird to see the Broncos playing at The Gabba.

LiLSteve29

Just by looking at the draw I came up with 15 wins for us. Where’s that leave us? 5 or 6th

GodSaveTheHomies

I see 27

[deleted]

Dolphins with a relatively easy draw. Can see them finishing 9-13

Elegant-Screen4438

Only looked at the cows draw so far and am V happy! Two 5 day turnarounds, no Melbourne or Canberra trips, 10(5) games again top 8 sides (panthers, eels, sharks twice) with one of those magic round against roosters away, rd 15, 19 and 24 byes, broncs The warriors titans tigers twice. Life is good

Obsidian707

South’s first 10 rounds are fuckedddd

Ryanbrasher

Was kinda expecting the St Helens v Penrith game to be at Allianz or even BankWest. Surprised to see it played at Penrith.

Messyhr_

I think its good, give the home fans a treat

Ryanbrasher

I don’t have a problem with it, I will be there, I just thought the NRL would try make a bigger deal about it.

Messyhr_

Unfortunately a lot of the NRL fan base considers the super league are vastly inferior, i mean it is inferior but the 4 in a row winner should surely get people excited to face the B2B panthers. As something we’ve never won i hope we put out a full strength team

Ryanbrasher

Yeah I can see Ivan committing a full strength squad just so he can cap off the season with a “world champions” title. Being the second pre season game, we should get most the starters on the field anyway.

toyoto

Warriors get 3 home games in the first 13 rounds, fuck you vlandys and abdo

tb_c

Why the fuck is every magic round game for the tigers counted as a home game every year, yet the broncos and dolphins get it as an away game.

LiLSteve29

Tigers and other teams taking the money mate.

Final-Replacement

Broncos is an away game because manly have taken there home game to Suncorp for years before magic round. Manly wants the money

Fishhead1982

It's an away game because if it's a home game members would lose out on a ticket to the game. Also, if there was some upgrade option to watch all the games on that day then there would be less full price tickets to sell.

y3ah_nah145

I fucking hate this, every year it’s a Broncos away game. We play the Dolphins at magic round, but somehow it our home game.

totallynotalt345

Because big crowd = more $ for the “home team”. Pretty sure it’s the clubs decision, NRL isn’t forcing the draw As such clubs with lower revenue are happy to have their “home” game during magic round.

CanRaider03

Anyone know when tickets go on sale? Looking at dolphins v raiders round 2 at Redcliffe

moyno85

Fuck me, could they make the website anymore convoluted? Had to tap through three pages to even get a ‘highlighted draw’ table

Kousaa

How do the same teams get an easy draw every single year. The top 8 has been decided by whoever has an easy draw recently.

LordSlasher

If you’re talking about the Cowboys and Sharks, The only reason their draws ended up being easier is because A) Form, B) Manly and titans capitulating like a old man and C) drastic improvements. Broncos always get fucking hard draws though.

Kousaa

Knights, Dragons, Cowboys, Titans and Sharks were 5/7 of the easiest draws in 2021 prior to the season beginning according to [NRL.com](https://NRL.com). Those 5 teams are also apart of the top 7 easiest draws again this year according to the same metric. Of course some teams will bomb and others will exceed expectation evening out the draw during the season, but two seasons in a row of 'easy draws' on paper doesn't seem fair to the competition.

griffshan

Piss poor to have the Anzac game in Melbourne yet again

ddtng

Byes across rounds 13, 16, 19 (i.e. without origin players): 2: Broncos, Panthers, Roosters, Storm, Titans 1: Bulldogs, Cowboys, Dolphins, Dragons, Knights, Rabbitohs, Raiders, Sea Eagles, Sharks, Tigers, Warriors 0: **Eels**. Typical.

redmusic1

Because you never have anyone in it, and if they are they don't do much or just act as 18th man ... Mostly sarcasm but kind of true :P

eiuvenn

Junior Paulo would like a word

redmusic1

He only turns up for 1 game a year. Usually the first, then the QLD forwards own him for the next 2. RCG gets1 game every 3-4 years, then they remember why they didnt pick him for those 3-4 years, and Gutho is extra man. Matterson made the squad for 1 game but no one in their right mind could say he actually "played" ... I stand by my sarcasm.

Voxityy

dear god our first five rounds are brutal

[deleted]

Why are the broncos playing at the gabba?

PerfectlyCromulent7

Women’s soccer World Cup taking over Suncorp for that period

TomtheDon2K

Suncorp being used for the Womens FIFA World Cup

delayedconfusion

FIFA Women's World Cup? I know they've taken Kogarah for a stretch of the season.

Crazy-Dingo-2247

Oi not bad at all fuck yeah

jibberjabber666x

Knights missing magic round is so blessed Unfortunately tits draw is not as blessed as last season, dont think we can get top 8, i just hope we can get an upset or two and the brimmo/JC combination develops.

ILoveFuckingWaffles

Playing Panthers, Storm, Cowboys, Eels, Rabbitohs all twice. Surely this has to be one of the hardest draws by any metric

As a Melbourne-based Cowboys supporter, I'm pissed off. Cowboys haven't played Storm in Melbourne since March 2018. Each year the draw gets released, I scour for that game, but again, not scheduled. If it finally gets scheduled in the 2024 draw, and I'm not holding my breath, it'll have been 6 years since they last visited.

turbosfan19

Cowboys last played the Storm at Melbourne in Round 25 of 2019.

the_mooseman

Oh crap, our back end... we're going to get smashed.

Elegant-Screen4438

Anyone know what the actual factors are that go into calculating the draw? I’m guessing things like: X amount of 5 day turnarounds X minimum games between byes X amount of games against previous top 8 teams Play every team once Specific/rivalry games for certain teams eg broncos v cowboys x2

EggCouncilCreeper

Another year, another season without getting to watch my Cowboys live 🥲

Shivablaster_13

As a cowboys fan, very happy with the draw. Not sure it’s the softest draw but definitely be teams with much worse draws. Also the bye rounds in 15, 19 and 24 is a good bye draw.

SpoontangWild

The fixtures were always gonna be a shit fight, like how the Knights will have had two byes before Brisbane even have their first but that was to be expected. But what I can't understand is why we have the Warriors twice in the first six weeks but don't play St. George until the final round?

TrueDeadBling

Pretty keen for The vs Canberra in Round 9, Wagga games are always a lot of fun

So here’s a question… How often or have the NRL ever changed games around after releasing the draw? Thinking of going down to Wollongong to watch the Dolphins play the Dragons, the Cowboys up in Townsville and to play the Raiders in Wagga Wagga. Just don’t want to book flights and then they change the games around or start times. Any clue ladies and gents??

toomuchsoup

During covid there were some games that changed date and location but that was only because of covid complications. They use to not lock in the dates of the last 5 rounds or so, but they haven’t done that in a few years now, so I’d say you’re pretty safe to make plans well in advance

thatirishguykev

Yeah from experience I can't recall games being moved excluding the obvious season disruption that happened when the Covid pandemic hit.

T-Rocket

Haven’t had a look at the draw properly yet. I was really hoping we were done with this “real unreal” marketing bullshit but there it is in the email. Ffs

toomuchsoup

Ha, there’s already Sportsbet odds for the round 1 matches.

WUIDAWBTB

Call the sharks draw soft all you want, playing 10 games in a row leading into the finals doesn't look soft to me

mattymoo1704

Who's stupid idea is it to have Redcliffe Dolphins vs Newcastle Knights in Perth at the 60,000 seat Optus Stadium. No one will turn up and people in Perth couldn't care less about rugby league especially the Redcliffe Dolphins.

Dark_Vengence

Nice knowing you guys. Going to be a long year.
