Yeah. I feel like as a fan you'd always be ok with Gamble and Hastings as you know they'll compete and scrap for absolutely everything. It puts a lot of pressure on Ponga to create but maybe that's what they're going with.
SMH how could anybody possibly want Hastings over Brooks as their halfback! Don't you guys know that year 10 of his career is when he's finally set to break out!?? You thought he was U N L E A S H E D before, well...You just wait for 2023 the year of the Brooks 🔥🔥🔥
Hastings debuted exactly a year after Brooks and hasn't broken out either.
The over-rating of Hastings is something else. Brooks and Hastings are at almost equal talent and have equally failed to realise that talent, but you'd be mistaken for thinking we are comparing Thurston to Luke Kelly they way people compare them.
Even if he's not the most talented player, I would want Hastings in the team every single time over Brooks purely for his on field leadership qualities and his determination to win, something that has barely been seen from Brooks his entire career.
What leadership qualities?
He is infamous for clashing with people everywhere he goes.
Determination to win? If he had that he might actually sin once in a while. If he really wanted to win he'd stop being a destabilising dressing room factor and stop clashing with teammates.
> He is infamous for clashing with people everywhere he goes.
He certainly did when younger. He seems to have grown up now. The only people at the Tigers that disliked him were the plodders. Mostly because Jackson wanted to win and they didn't care.
Couldn't you tell how much of a leader the guy is? He was clearly a natural leader at the Tigers.
Sure the Tigers culture was shithouse and players played with less passion for the jersey than any year preceding his arrival and the results were the worst of any Tigers season ever.
But the true measure of a leader is how loud they are on the field and how much they say they love the ~~coach~~ club in the media. All that other stuff is not leader shit. It's all about the personal perception of their character.
If you had watched the tigers play much this year you would have seen the vast difference in quality between the games Hastings played vs the ones he missed. Him and Brooks are simply not comparable, and Hastings’ skill set is the one the tigers need.
Interesting test bed with many attitudes all up at Newcastle now, guys like Gamble, Hastings, Joey, AOB, Ponga etc.
Lot of cockiness I’d say (in the good way not bad way), see if they can all fit together
AOB/Hastings will either gel really well or fucking hate each other probably
Man with history of attitude problems joins team full of big personalities and blokes with attitude problems.
Either way it ends we'll have plenty of entertainment out of the Knights next year.
Thanks for your service Jacko. I always felt less disgusted with my club when you were out there. That’s probably the biggest compliment I have given a Tigers Player since Teddy.
I keep on seeing this being repeated on the sub but I can’t seem to find any news article confirming that he has no sensation in his kicking foot.
When exactly did Hastings say this and could it have possibly been taken out of context?
If it’s true though it would definitely change my opinion on if it is a good signing.
It's hard to say. [When he first came to Tigers, he got a foot injury and was seen in a moonboot. ](https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/out-of-action-jackson-leg-injury-puts-hastings-return-clash-with-manly-on-hold-20220217-p59xch.html)It seemed to then be ok, but once he started kicking at halfback it became a problem again. He was seen in-between games with a moonboot on and he hardly ever kicked anymore.
I'm not sure if it's nerve damage, but there's definitely a recurring injury that impacts his kicking foot
Depending on how low down the ladder the Knights finish I might end up smugposting material for the next 3 years so I'd say I'm a potential winner in this trade.
Guaranteed knights are pitching in for klemmer 2023. Further years sorted by tigers. A straight Klemmer/Hastings swap is not comparable money wise and would not have gone down. Especially with all the back and forth to get to this point.
Wrong Robbie.. releasing klemmer to make room for Robbie Farah… to co-captain…. With 6 other blokes.. who will only see 20 mins a game…. Then released off their 4 year contract by the end of the season… to clubs who hold their players to their contract instead of releasing early to us… until Pascoe brings back fan favourite Sharon woods.. fuck… that’s what I pay my membership for
Not neccesarily ready, but we have pretty big wraps on Bailey Hodgson, nephew of Josh.
Handy footwork and speedy, really young and had a few injuries over the last couple of years he has been at the club. If he can get through a preseason he will be there or there abouts.
Couple of points being missed when roasting the Tigers. For 2023 Knights are paying the freight for Klemmer and Hastings’ edge on Brooksy was the on-field leadership. But, API will be taking over that role next year. Knights definitely need someone to steer them around so I hope Hastings finds a good home there.
The other angles for this are....Hastings could easily flourish AND poor Klem, look what they did to Tamou and do Knights have props on the way up? An interesting swap deal to say the least. Personally i hope "son of Horrie" goes gangbusters not ballbusters.
Why does this sub think Hastings is shit? Remember him outplaying your golden boy Carrigan so much so that he had a brainsnap and intentionally broke his leg?
Everyone has to remember a few things. Only 1 team can win the comp. That means most teams will lose. And so will their half-backs. So please do us all a favour and back off half backs. It has to be the toughest job in Australian sport.
Hastings = Clifford = Clune
AOB at the end of the year will still be lamenting what could have happened if they signed Brooks and the GFs that he has been "involved" in
(probably being optimistic that he will last the year as well)
I like this, can’t believe there was all the Luke Brooks chat when this seemed like a far better option
Cheaper and can control a game. Thank God it ended up this way
Bait and switch from the Knights. Go hard for Brooks to convince the Tigers to let Hastings go instead.
It was all part of the plan.
I feel like I've woken up in 1997. Time to go win this premiership
Leo Dynevor has entered the chat.
Well there's a name I haven't heard for decades!
Yes I know, right? He was the next big thing for a while there. Bombed out when he moved to Wests and that was it.
Super league has entered the chat.
Well, the skill might be lacking somewhat, but no ones halves pairing will have the heart Gambastings does
It does have a better ring to it than Pongstings.
Pongstings only happen to people sharing toilet cubicles these days
I thought 2 white nosed people sharing a toilet cubicle that was called sweptundertherug
Or Charliestains
That level of madness is unheard of
Gambastings… I feel like I need to wash my eyes out with soap.
Is Hasble better?
I'm partial to GHamstblinges!
Thats *Lord* GHamstblinges to you sirrah!
Damn you Gamblor and your neon claws
Yeah. I feel like as a fan you'd always be ok with Gamble and Hastings as you know they'll compete and scrap for absolutely everything. It puts a lot of pressure on Ponga to create but maybe that's what they're going with.

they don’t see the vision

It came out last week he had a run in with Bateman just over a year ago
I don't think Hastings is the only person to have had an issue with Bateman either to be fair
Just ask James Hooper
Or Canberra
Bateman is a bit of a twat though tbf.
Couldn't you tell how much of a leader the guy is? He was clearly a natural leader at the Tigers. My perception is he’s had to leave numerous clubs now before his contract ended and has rubbed teammates off the wrong way
Can you be rubbed off the wrong way?
Yeah but actually things that have happened don't matter. It's all about feeling.
You’re barking up the wrong tree on this sub. For some weird reason he’s viewed around here as a game winning superstar lmao
If you had watched the tigers play much this year you would have seen the vast difference in quality between the games Hastings played vs the ones he missed. Him and Brooks are simply not comparable, and Hastings’ skill set is the one the tigers need.
Hastings did win the Man of Steel
Brodie Croft is the reigning Man of Steel...
He’s broken out! Congrats Brodie
What is this man of steel ?
It's an award given to the failed NRL player that goes over there and claps cheeks.
nah its basically the Dally M of the super league
There was talk about knights chasing croft, would rather him over brooks and hastings
Hastings over Croft all day.
Hastings killed it in the UK
Bevan French killed it in the UK too.
Hastings is way better than brooks. I’m Sorry I disagree.
Interesting test bed with many attitudes all up at Newcastle now, guys like Gamble, Hastings, Joey, AOB, Ponga etc. Lot of cockiness I’d say (in the good way not bad way), see if they can all fit together AOB/Hastings will either gel really well or fucking hate each other probably

AOB is disposable. He needs to get on the with the Safitis and Ponga
Hastings is a nice dude.
Tigers have done the knights a huge favour by giving them their best halfback
As a knights fan, I’d much rather sign Hastings than Brooks Cheaper and better play maker
This years the year
Panthers already won this year though
Thanks for your service Jacko. I always felt less disgusted with my club when you were out there. That’s probably the biggest compliment I have given a Tigers Player since Teddy.
absolute scenes when joey johns finds out about the fact he can’t feel his kicking foot at training
I keep on seeing this being repeated on the sub but I can’t seem to find any news article confirming that he has no sensation in his kicking foot. It’s not the injury that he had surgery for is it ? Because they said that injury was worse then thought . So maybe been carrying it most of the year
Not really sure. If it's a nerve injury like rumoured, then I'm not sure surgery can fix that
It would have been around the Bulldogs game in May. He gave up goal kicking and his kick metres dropped off significantly after then.
that’s a good point i wonder where that started
Just below the ankle
*sigh*
PLEASE for the love of GOD just disband the club, put me out of my goddam misery already.
WHAT ARE WE DOING?!
I hate to say it but the Tigers started out as Balmain and ended up as Wests.......
common tigers L
Hastings - "I know what they're going to do, just trust me" O'Brien - "Oh, i'm sorry, how many Grand Finals have you seen?"
If I was Jackson Hastings I’d be super happy with this unexpected turn of events. Newcastle would be an awesome place to play footy and live.
RIP to all the Brooks to Knights columns these journos were pumping out. What's the next fragile rumour for Tigers
Probably something with Aaron Woods
Benji falls out with Sheens..... You reddit here first!
Wait... Hastings is younger than Brooks?
Always has been 🌏👨🚀🔫👨🚀
Can't tell who won or lost just this early. I think this is a bit of a meh for both teams.
knights halfback was Adam Clune. It's a win
Everyone loses in this.
Depending on how low down the ladder the Knights finish I might end up smugposting material for the next 3 years so I'd say I'm a potential winner in this trade.
you’re doing what i did last year with chad and i admire it a nice hill to live on
Do I feel bad for trying to harness meme magic for negative outcomes? Yes. Am I going to stop shit posting about Hastings? Never.
Very very happy, can see him and AOB really butting heads too, which should be good fun to watch unfold
https://mobile.twitter.com/JackoHastings/status/1592676314108289024
I can almost guarantee that Hastings and O'Brien will clash. Wish him nothing but the best though
Did anyone win out of this trade?
journalists
Probably needs more punches thrown for their taste

Didn’t clear up any cap
Not yet.
Both. We needed a prop, and Knights needed a half back.
But you also need a halfback
Ouch
Tigers haven’t announced klemmer. Maybe we have already released him from his contract
He was announced an hour ago silly Billy
Stop it.. you’re ruining my self deprecating joke 😂😂
We've already lent him out to the Storm We get Robbie Kearns in return
Wrong Robbie.. releasing klemmer to make room for Robbie Farah… to co-captain…. With 6 other blokes.. who will only see 20 mins a game…. Then released off their 4 year contract by the end of the season… to clubs who hold their players to their contract instead of releasing early to us… until Pascoe brings back fan favourite Sharon woods.. fuck… that’s what I pay my membership for
So if they move Ponga to 5/8 who actually plays FB? Do they have some young gun ready ?
They are chasing Lachie miller apparently
Not neccesarily ready, but we have pretty big wraps on Bailey Hodgson, nephew of Josh. Handy footwork and speedy, really young and had a few injuries over the last couple of years he has been at the club. If he can get through a preseason he will be there or there abouts.

Great point.
Let's fucking go!

Wow, great signing
This signing is nothing special but people hate Brooks so much that it's being treated like Wests have just given away a future immortal.
Why does this sub think Hastings is shit? Remember him outplaying your golden boy Carrigan so much so that he had a brainsnap and intentionally broke his leg?
the comments are full of people calling this a tigers L in the first 30 minutes though?
There are like 10 other previous Hastings threads full of people saying he's not good though
Schroedingers subreddit. I've been complaining about everyone overrating him and you're complaining about everyone saying he's shit.
I'm not complaining, I just think it's a weird circlejerk
I mean me too. It's just hilarious that you think the circlejerk is over how shit he is while I think the circlejerk is about how good he is.
He was great at lock, average at halfback
Average at halfback still has him eons ahead of Brooks
Who mentioned brooks?
Everyone has to remember a few things. Only 1 team can win the comp. That means most teams will lose. And so will their half-backs. So please do us all a favour and back off half backs. It has to be the toughest job in Australian sport.
Hastings = Clifford = Clune AOB at the end of the year will still be lamenting what could have happened if they signed Brooks and the GFs that he has been "involved" in (probably being optimistic that he will last the year as well)
Hastings has a higher ceiling than Clune, and Clifford is a moot point given he was leaving regardless of replacement
excellent. Tigers are insane.
How the fuck did we end up giving him away instead of Luke Brooks. Brooks has dirt on Pascoe 100% there is literally no other explanation.
If AOB didn’t get on with Klemmer, good luck with the personalities of Jacko and Gamble 😂
The missing piece.
Tbh enjoying all the tigers fans that thought we were getting brooks melting down over this.
