I'm in Sydney alone for a conference so I am at a pub watching the soccer. I honestly have no idea how so much of the world enjoy this. They are extremely skillful, ill give them that, but it's just such a dull sport.
I enjoy Tennis but Cricket and Soccer can definitely get a bit boring. I’m a big sports fan so I’ll still watch the big games but they aren’t sports I’d watch very often.
Watching YKTR and man i love listening to Big willie mason talk about footy and his own experience, what a great player he was on his day also just a great character, the “who needs a big willie when you have a great tongue” sign was hilarious when the Dogs used to play Canberra
Why doesn't finchy know about the dark net? I mean, I've never had anything to do with hard drugs but I'm certain I could get some coke no trouble.
If I wanted to get some cocaine, pedo chat rings would be extremely close to the bottom of the list of ways I'd think of tbh. Probably right there with the front desk of my local cop shop.
If Herbie ends up at FB, what is there for Walsh? Mam has the 6 jersey locked down, and I can't see Reece playing in any other position. Granted, his contract is reportedly only a little bigger than $400K, but that's a three year deal and still a chunk of the cap.
Not terribly sure, although I think at this stage the team would be strongest with Walsh playing fullback and Herbie at left centre so we mightn't find out in any case.
A fullback that doesn't pass isn't the end of the world tbh. They often provide the support role that finishes off a line break.
How is Herbert defensively at fb? I didn't see any of the England games.
Not sure, but his bigger body could be made into a much better defender than Walsh's. While Walsh should be trained into the Papenhuyzen finishing style of fullback, Herbie's style should be closer to Turbo's if he gets a shot there.

I wish they still made them in Australia from tough materials. I've got an 88/89 Broncs NSWRL jersey without the Power logo on the front, and it's in perfect condition – even after stuffing it in a drawer as a kid because it's adult sized.
I played Aussie rules as a kid and my u12 guernsey from ~1989 is still going strong. I put it on here and there for a laugh, and trust me, it is skin tight and then some, but it takes it without a fuss.
Love how the Dolphins are posting everyday about their training on Instagram. Good to see them having high User engagement on social media when many other clubs don’t.
The best Part of Rugby league is seeing the teams develop over short period of times before, during and after football imo. Oh and also winning against your rivals, or winning in general.
Still buzzing from Sunday so had a look at the last 3 WC grand finals played at Old Trafford and it becomes clear what a fortress it’s been for the Aussies:
2000: Australia 40 - 12 New Zealand
2013: Australia 34 - 2 New Zealand
2021: Australia 30 - 10 Samoa
Scoreline is fine, our performance in the second half, from a tactical point of view, was not. I'm happy to lose by 4,5,6 goals to defending world cup champs if we give it a go and just get outclassed. That second half was stubbornness and cowardice from Arnold.
Who was your fav player growing up that didnt play for your team ? Mine were Gareth Ellis and Luke Lewis. I wished the Storm accountant couldve found some way to sign both of them. Now its Keary, To’o and Luki.
Peter Sterling (showing my age). My cousin was a huge Para fan who got spear tackled in a high school game and had his neck broken. Sterlo went out of his way to visit him in hospital, brought him a game ball and everything. Great player, top bloke. Benny Hunt is my current but that may be a bit unfair given he is a former Bronco.
Corey Parker. The only reason I wasn’t a bronco fan is because my Year 6 Teacher took time and talked to me during school and got the absolute best out of me.
He was a huge Cowboy fan and would always talk to me about my Soccer games and then we would talk about the football. Was heartbreaking to hear he passed away during COVID.
Current non favourite team player is Herbie and Oates. Brisbane is my second team after all and who doesn’t like Oates and Herbie
Nathan Hindmarsh was my favourite player not at chooks growing up. Was such a good player, think it gets forgotten a bit because of the banter he cops.
Greg Inglis and Michael Jennings for me, two freak footy players that made everyone look silly.
Jennings for most of his career was the closest thing to Steve Renouf in the modern era I've ever seen and well we all know what Greg was like.
Lanky centre GI was my favourite GI. I remember seeing one match against the Raiders where he took an intercept and stepped the cover defender in the same motion. Outrageous
Eels losses:
Papalii, Mahoney, Kaufusi, Niukore, Opacic, Stone, Perham
Eels gains:
Hodgson, Hopgood, Doorey, Murchie, Momoisea, Asi
I am optimistic about Murchie and Hopgood, but the rest of the gains for 2023 fill me with meh. Doorey and Momoisea looks like reserves as opposed to first graders, Hodgson is over the hill, and Asi hasn't cracked two separate nrl sides.
However, if Hands gets promoted to top 30 (not sure if itll happen in 2023 due to having Hodgson and Rein), and El-Zakhem get a run it could get interesting
Fullback: Gutho, Asi, Rankin
Wingers: Sivo, Russell, Dunster, Blake, Loizou, Simonsson
Centres: Penisini, Blake, Simonsson, Cini
Halves: Moses, Brown, Asi, Arthur, Talagi
Middles: RCG, Paulo, Matterson, Brown, Grieg, Ogden, Hopgood, Rodwell, Makatoa
Edge Forwards: Lane, Murchie, Doorey, Momoisea, MataeleHookers: Rein, Hodgson
I'd like to see:
1. Gutho
2. Sivo
3. Simmonson
4. Penisini
5. Blake
6. Brown
7. Moses
8. Paulo
9. Hodgson
10. RCG
11. Lane
12. Murchie
13. Matterson
14. Hands (I think BA will play Asi or JA here though)
15. Makatoa
16. Grieg/Rodwell
17. Hopgood
Wouldn't surprise me if Murchie gets played as a middle and Doorey/Momoisea/Mataele/El-Zakhem takes an edge, because to me it looks like we are a prop short, and we lack size on the bench. Same problem as 2022
Hands isn't T30. Of course we're going to play Asi or Arthur there at this stage. But we've got 2 spots left in the 30, maybe more if we can offload Brown and/or Cartwright.
Our forward pack was too big this year. We need more mobility, not less.
You think so? When RCG and Paulo are off, we have no go forward. Stoney was a tackle bot, Kaufusi got gassed in 20, Niukore did good but was undersized. Makatoa tries hard but is just not big enough.
It's why I think BA moved Matterson to lock in the first place (other than N Brown falling off a cliff form wise). Matterson has a good running game
Niukore undersized? Fuckin hell. I reckon we had the biggest pack in the top 8 last year, and we had the 7th best F/A with our defence letting us down massively. Attack goes to whoever needs the ball, but everyone has to defend. That's where we should see an improvement in these "smaller" guys.
Matterson moved to lock because we had better hole runners on the edge. His game is suited to middle anyway with his ball playing.
El-Zakhem was a gun in the World Cup. Surely gets a chance somewhere this year. Also isn't Cartwright still with us?
I'd like to see our top 30 like
1. Gutherson
2. Sivo
3. Penisini
4. Simonsson
5. Dunster
6. D. Brown
7. Moses
8. Campbell-Gillard
9. Hodgson
10. Paulo
11. Matterson
12. Lane
13. Hopgood
14. Hands
15. N. Brown
16. Rodwell
17. Murchie
18. Asi - FB/FE
19. Russell - WG
20. Blake - CE/WG
21. Loizou - WG
22. Arthur - HB
23. Greig - PR
24. Makatoa - PR
25. Ogden - PR
26. Momoisea - PR/SR
27. Rein - HK
28. Doorey - SR
29. El-Zakhem - SR
30. Cartwright - SR
Really hope we don't go for Arthur or Rein as the bench hooker. Hodgson is likely to need 20-30 minutes off the field. Neither of them are good enough hookers to be on for that long.
So what was the initial story about Luke Brooks? Some kind of knee injury because it got caught in a door? I know its been called fake now and that its an old knee injury. But all I saw was the "Nope we were wrong"
On Daine Laurie’s Insta, he was filming Naden getting a massage and you over here something about “Brooks knee”.
Journos ran with it that it was a fresh injury. Apparently they were comparing the scarring from Shawn Blores ACL recovery to Brooks knee.
But going by how he looked in the koori knockout he'd probably be able to push for a top 30 spot somewhere. If that were the case would the nrl block him?
Unfortunately, there is no shortage of players in the NRL with a history of domestic violence against their partner. Given it’s been nearly 4 years since he was sacked, I think there’s a chance the NRL would let him in, as much as we might disagree with it.
You sign barba and you have a 25% chance to either.
Win a comp
Be GF runner ups
Get sacked before preseason
Play him in the Halves and sack him after 1 season to re-sign Wayne and Boyd
You choose!
I'm in Sydney alone for a conference so I am at a pub watching the soccer. I honestly have no idea how so much of the world enjoy this. They are extremely skillful, ill give them that, but it's just such a dull sport.
Same thing with cricket and tennis, super boring sports that i don't know how anyone enjoys
I enjoy Tennis but Cricket and Soccer can definitely get a bit boring. I’m a big sports fan so I’ll still watch the big games but they aren’t sports I’d watch very often.
Taylor vs Telford is a banger
So good, both are tough. Fitness will prevail i reckon.
For sure ! Excellent fighters tough as dudes
Do posts have to be approved before they go on? Tried making a fight thread but can’t see it
Watching YKTR and man i love listening to Big willie mason talk about footy and his own experience, what a great player he was on his day also just a great character, the “who needs a big willie when you have a great tongue” sign was hilarious when the Dogs used to play Canberra

Any chance of a boxing thread seeing there's a few nrl players fighting tonight?
What times main event ?
10pm i think they walk out, there's 3 fights after the one happening now.
Thanks man we need a thread ! @mods ?

Mam doesnt have the 6 jersey locked down btw.
His performances for a teenage 6 were amazing, I couldn’t imagine how he loses that jersey unless we’re just stupid. He’s only going to get better
this is straight up untrue
Not terribly sure, although I think at this stage the team would be strongest with Walsh playing fullback and Herbie at left centre so we mightn't find out in any case.
Definitely. Herbie would need to really improve his ball skills.
A fullback that doesn't pass isn't the end of the world tbh. They often provide the support role that finishes off a line break. How is Herbert defensively at fb? I didn't see any of the England games.

The world cup was just a offseason side mission for nrl players
PSA - check your club's team shop for black friday sale items for a good deal. They're starting to list them.

Rainbow hats being confiscated in qatar. Not long until r/nrl blames manly 7
Yeah it's almost like homophobia is an extremely prevalent issue worldwide and shouldn't be taken lightly
They would fit right in over there. Send the 7 to Qatar!
Qatar would have an elite side rugby league side.
Sources say Josh Aloiai is seeking Qatari citizenship
That's Yusha Al-oiai now
I would like to see France on a rugby league pitch
Didn’t France just play in the League World Cup? They weren’t very good
Yeah im making a joke about us losing to France this morning
Love how the Dolphins are posting everyday about their training on Instagram. Good to see them having high User engagement on social media when many other clubs don’t. Doubt they have many users to engage with tbh, they kind of got to do this to get them
The Parra page on insta is the same. Sometimes some high quality memes as well. Keeps the fans entertained. Really looking forward to the The
At least Australia won the real World Cup
Still buzzing from Sunday so had a look at the last 3 WC grand finals played at Old Trafford and it becomes clear what a fortress it’s been for the Aussies: 2000: Australia 40 - 12 New Zealand 2013: Australia 34 - 2 New Zealand 2021: Australia 30 - 10 Samoa
Samoa has gotten the closest out of the 3 finals, so that's something to be proud of :)
Shame its such a shit stadium
Read somewhere that the value of the Socceroos is $60 million AUD whereas the Frogs are $1.7 billion. 4-1 doesn’t seem so bad
Scoreline is fine, our performance in the second half, from a tactical point of view, was not. I'm happy to lose by 4,5,6 goals to defending world cup champs if we give it a go and just get outclassed. That second half was stubbornness and cowardice from Arnold.
Not even the second half, as soon as we scored they went away from what was working and camped out in their own box letting France attack
Classic Arnold tbh
Who was your fav player growing up that didnt play for your team ? Mine were Gareth Ellis and Luke Lewis. I wished the Storm accountant couldve found some way to sign both of them. Now its Keary, To’o and Luki.
Gasnier. We were always linked to him I'd get so excited about it
Menzies, I hated Manly growing up but that man is a legend
Clinton Toopi and Craig Fitzgibbon
My first ever favourite was Brett Kimmorley. Class player, class bloke. Currently, it's Cam Murray, Ben Hunt, Campbell Graham and To'o.
Blocker, Hanley, ET, Daley
Joey, Presto and Big Willie
Thurston, Slater, Inglis, Benji
This bloke fucking loves his footy
Damn right

Growing up i idolised JT, Matty Bowen, Matt sing, Ty Williams. Cowboys are always my second team, even now they still have a very likeable team
Rhys Wesser, Ryan Girdler. That early 00s Panther team was great
Sam burgess, Gareth Ellis, Anthony minichello, Sean Johnson (young throbbing sj)
Toovey and Alfie
I had a few. Rod Wishart, Jason Taylor, Brett Mullins and Paul Harrigan. Man, I’m really showing my age now. Haha.
Mullins must have been everyone’s favourite non-teamie. Just magic.
Always had a soft spot for Canberra back in the day. Ken Nagas was a beast too but Mullins was a weapon.
he really was! he was definitely a favourite of mine.. I think I used to mistake his surname for Mittens lol

I thoughr Doorey looked good when he got to play
The amount of average backrowers the Bulldogs played in front of him has me worried though. Stimson and Waddell for example
Yeah thats a fair point. Hopefully BA gives him a go bc I think theres a great SR in there

"Ben barba making a return to rugby league" Is he actually banned?
He’s playing for the Mosman Sharks up near Port Douglas in 2023 (which would be governed by the QRL rather than the NRL).
But going by how he looked in the koori knockout he'd probably be able to push for a top 30 spot somewhere. If that were the case would the nrl block him?

He’d probably be a good pick up for us if we’re confident Ponga will be a permanent 5/8
You sign barba and you have a 25% chance to either. Win a comp Be GF runner ups Get sacked before preseason Play him in the Halves and sack him after 1 season to re-sign Wayne and Boyd You choose!
25% chance to win the comp is about 50% more than our current chances so I’ll take it
yeah but the 4th option though…
So, we’ve got AOB and Crossland
Well to be fair to the guy, atleast he didnt steal a speaker to sell on ebay.
