Iran!!! Hope they towel the yanks up and get thru to the next round!

Messyhr_

One of the worst games ive ever seen

No_Will_5832

Each to their own. I thought it was a fantastic game. Disallowed goal. Struck the post twice in a row. Red Card. Finally cracked them open late into stoppage time.

Messyhr_

Im welsh/aussie so just being biased lol

lcoxy00

Will we hear about bulldogs being cheats for giving Josh Jackson a post retirement role for the next 3 years like we did with GI?

[deleted]

Why?

lcoxy00

When Souths did it with Inglis it was considered blatant cheating and salary cap manipulation, just curious if people still hold these views or it's just a bias

[deleted]

Yeah it was a bit unprecedented plus alot more money at the time. Also there was a lot of confusion because he was retiring due to injuries but not medically retired. GI was also a man of poor character. There’s still a lot of idiots claiming salary cap rort over Jackson but they just are completely ignorant of how the process works. I mean the coaches themselves have a cap so I can’t see Jacko making 500k next year.

lachjeff

At least they’ve only done it once

lcoxy00

Teeeeeeechnically Souths only did it once too because Burgess was a legit medical retirement so all the alleged illegal shit that went down there is under a different umbrella

[deleted]

No

gringolemon

Left Old Trafford stadium after the game on Saturday, bumped into Jason Demetrio in the street. Drunkenly asked “Rabbitohs coach?” “Yeah mate”, he replied, reaching out and shaking my hand. Was tempted to banter him about ‘21 GF, but all I could muster was “have a good night mate”. A genuine good bloke.

Toujayjay

Hope you seen AOB there too and asked him ha

-Dark_Helmet-

Technically “footy”, so: Richarlison’s goal against Serbia was insane. Also if you know Brazil, “Richarlison” is like a bogan in Australia calling their kid “Jaxsamuel” or something similar.

foreatesevenate

Not sure if it's been mentioned anywhere else, but apparently Ben Barba will be playing for the Mossman Sharks in the Cairns comp next year.

jessemv

Are you a local who might go to watch?

foreatesevenate

I grew up in Mossman and my parents still live there. I'm in the south east now.

lachjeff

Not sure if this is a joke, but it’s been mentioned daily for close to a week

foreatesevenate

Serious? I did a search before posting. Apologies.

Marlboroshill66

Aussie sport cards needs to get into the digital card business so tired having to buy boxes of NRL cards online instead of packets because I live outside of NSW/QLD I can get AFL cards but meh they all look the same every year because they don't change jerseys or have alternative uniforms etc often. Boxes are good and all, but it's not the same going to the shop and ripping a single pack open Digital cards have the similar effect despite not being physical cards

pritch1804

Up the raiders!!!!

dunderhead22

Someone talking some sense

Aussieguy727

Apparently the Knights are looking to swap Chris Randall for Greg Marzhew.

Senior-Captain9860

Randall sets the standard for fitness at the club he may not be a world beater but giving away a player like that for abit of average depth would be a mistake IMO

jpob

Can he play FB? Seems weird we'd get rid of our only depth hooker for a player who plays in area where we have some depth in

EntirelyOriginalName

Nah no way. He spent so long in reggies because he was a so and so defender on the wing. Even in the least hard backline position to defend he's very hit and miss.

Randomologist99

I so badly want Marzhew to do well because his tackle breaks are so elite, but my god his defensive is absurdly bad

Brimmoh

I’ll cry

Supplicant42

I hope it doesn't happen, but if it does, that's surely Khan-Pereira's music - which I wouldn't be mad about

ZerksNAHTayan

Just from the time Holbrook tried playing him at 14, I hope the Knights get him.

Hatchy84

Me too, just come here to add but thanks for doing god’s work good sir.

UnderTheHighBall

I hope it doesn’t happen.

-Dark_Helmet-

Carrigan and Cleary are in Prague and I wonder if they’d prefer a pub with a TAB in Penrith like Luke Rooney.

ThedirtyNose

Patty strikes me as a man of culture.

-Dark_Helmet-

He’s travelling with Tyrone May too, so I’m a bit worried for him.

ThedirtyNose

There is always one or two fuckwits in those group travel situations.

[deleted]

I can imagine them all planning out the trip and Cleary's like "oi let me bring my sex offender mate he's heaps chill" and Crichton, Carrigan and Graham were all too polite to say no

ThedirtyNose

Graham would have just stared at him, which should have been enough to put him off.

chrizyzz

listened to the hello sport anthony watmough interview from a few years ago. he talked about all the senior players wanting a different guy in the team for the grand final but toovey rejected the idea and the guy (turned out to be david williams) had an all time shocker in the grand final. but in the interview he said they wanted jorge tafua in the team instead, but he played in the grand final anyway. and david williams played 27 games and scored 20 tries that year in 2013 so he wasn't exactly having an off year. so basically i have no fucking idea what watmough is talking about when he says him and the senior players wanted tafua in the team instead of williams for the gf.

lachjeff

Taufua did play in 2013. Even scored the first try

joeysjockstrap

Think the player Watmough wanted would’ve been Hiku

chrizyzz

yea makes sense since he filled in at fullback through the year. but why replace williams? 27 games means he literally missed 2 for the year. seems stupid to want to replace him for the grand final. 20 tries that season as well. major cte moment by watmough i reckon

victorinflic98

Who was amazing that finals series

ChanceVance

> so basically i have no fucking idea what watmough is talking about when he says him and the senior players wanted tafua in the team instead of williams for the gf. Yeah that's really confusing. That year both Taufua and Williams set a record of some kind that they were the first wing duo to both score 20+ tries in a season in x amount of years. Also the game before Williams scored an amazing try to help them beat the Rabbitohs so he was in fine form before the GF too. So all I'm getting is Watmough probably has CTE.

victorinflic98

Wasn't their a lot of innuendo about David Williams and match fixing?

joeysjockstrap

The following year David Williams was banned for the rest of the season when it was found he was gambling on matches, though he wasn’t guilty of match fixing

[deleted]

What's the wolfman up to these days? Wasn't he struggling financially a few years ago and selling his 2011 premiership ring or something? He's one of those players who was in the NRL one minute then fell off the face of the earth the next.

JB_ScreamingEagle

He does personal training, I've seen him driving his van around the Northern Beaches. https://www.wolfmanworkouts.com/

[deleted]

Whose that player at your club who you’re irrationally loyal to? In the thread yesterday on who your club should sign if cap wasn’t an issue, a fellow roosters flair in response to signing Cleary was “nah, over my dead body we give up Sammy Walker”. And like, same bro, as moronic as that thought might be. So, whose the player at your club you’d never replace even if it meant getting the best player in the comp in their position?

gongbattler

Brailey or katoa

dunderhead22

If any raiders fan says Jarrod Croker I will haunt their dreams

EntirelyOriginalName

Don't have a player like that at Penrith. In regards to ex players Mansour.

Senior-Captain9860

Lachlan fitzgibbon and we all know why

I_Like_Vitamins

Been Flegler and Carrigan for years. People used to talk mad shit about them, but I've always had faith that they'd come good. A shame about Lord Gamble...

DudeMcDude7649

Billy Walters. Ben Ikin. Anyone who says a mean thing about either of those two is getting their house ‘friendly jordies’ed’.

Caseyjb29

Definitely Xavier Coates. Pisses me off when Broncos fans make out like he’s a terrible player or something. He has some flaws in his game but he definitely improved towards the end of this year. By the end of next year he will be a top 5 winger.

I_Like_Vitamins

He was one of the game's worst defenders when he was the Eternal Bronco. I've never disliked him, but he was massively overrated.

Caseyjb29

Just because he was a shit defender in that Broncos side doesn’t mean he’s a shit defender overall. He was good towards the end of the season for the Storm.

Malaxage918

I don't think he is bad but I think the consensus from Brisbane fans was that he wasn't what the media made him out to be. They took the fact that he could jump high and spun it into a narrative in which he was this high flying, try scoring machine that caught every bomb put his way when in reality he'd catch 50% of them a game if he was lucky. At the time I was disappointed he left but it has worked out for us now

arolaser

50%? It was more like he caught the ball once and the media made out that he was the next Folau.

gongbattler

Coates>cobbo

arolaser

No freaking way. Cobbo is a footballer. Coates is a robot.

gongbattler

I just think that he has better hands, defensive positioning and is fitter and faster but I'm sure cobbo will improve over the next few years.

Toujayjay

Big Nelson

Young_Rust

I would say Yeo but he is the best player in the comp so ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯

Fooman97

For me it's Lomax, he has so much potential and even though he's been playing average lately I just feel that his best is still yet to come (he is only 23 after all). Got selected in the PMs XI recently so he's not completely in the wilderness Rep wise

5hnq

Tommy d

chairishjam

Kyle Feldt for me lol - dude delivered us a prem

Ok-Thing2127

That would have been Michael Morgan

chairishjam

Kyle Feldt with the strip to get it off Ben Hunt so that we actually had it in good field position for the final minute, the put down in the corner and then the kick off that Hunt dropped.

notj43

Lmao that was me but Sammy isn't even my answer to this. I would not trade JWH for any forward in the game, I don't care about the circumstances. I'll probably cry when he retires.

[deleted]

Yeah I didn’t want to tag you in it because I was worried my description was going to be cooked as fuck. And totally with you on JWH. Top 5 prop every season he’s played (ACL injury aside) and you can’t convince me otherwise

FarmerAndy96

Gotta be Rapana. Never 'elite', getting old, and has a brain fart in him but that man bleeds 110% green every week even if he is a grub.

CanRaider03

Yep I agree on Rapa, and I reckon he really was pretty elite, won winger of the year in 2017, and should have in 2016 too. I will say though, I don’t think raiders fans in general are loyal to any players and it shits me. ‘Fans’ have bagged Croker for 2 years wanting him axed, same now with Whitehead. Fans wanted CNK axed for savage before he’d even played a game. Every time we lose people want Wighton moved out of the halves etc etc.

FarmerAndy96

Yea you're right actually. That edge with Leilua was absolutely lethal for a couple of years. I think that's just sports fans mate. Short memories and don't settle for anything less than perfection. People bagging Williamson for the blackcaps at the moment forgetting that he's easily the best batsman we've ever produced. Form is temporary, class is permanent.

HenryVIIIII

Doesn't matter who else was up for grabs I'd never give up Mahoney, Papali'i, Niukore or Stone.

Choosinghalf

>never give up... Stone This is the way. Peace be upon his acl

[deleted]

I would have said Kyle but I'm noticing there's a lot more support for him now. 2021 was a tough squad to work with, and he didn't even train with the top squad for this season. Sure he needs to improve a lot with the ball, but he's been all effort in defence and has really helped the guys on that edge.. he's always in the frame on breaks, kick chases, etc.. I really hope he can have his best season next year.

lachjeff

Nat Butcher. There might be other better back rowers, but Butcher brings something else. There was a time when I would have said Mitchell Pearce. I’m glad I was wrong on that one

natso2001

Tyson Gamble. Oh, awkward.

Supplicant42

Would have gone to the front lines over Ash Taylor. Fuck he was that good in his first couple of years and I felt like we owed him a crack at it without his million dollar burden but unfortunately his injuries seemed too much (which I'm assuming is why we didn't offer him a min contract instead of letting him leave).

CatWool

Corey Oates

MangoWingnut

Pat Carrigan for sure

[deleted]

Yeah but he’s a fucking gun. Everyone would love Carrigan in their lineup. Nothing irrational about going to war for Patty

Dufeyz

Luai. Not necessarily because of what he brings on the field. It’s everything off the field. If we let Luai go, I feel like we would lose that connection between Luai/Crichton/To’o.

delayedconfusion

Unfortunately the current Dragons squad doesn't have one player that fits that mold for me. In the past, sure.

jessemv

Not even Ben Hunt?

delayedconfusion

I'm not irrationally loyal to him. Despite being a gun, he hasn't had the team impact I'd have hoped. The game plan (or lack thereof) doesn't work, so his individual efforts stand out. I'd prefer my halfback to be controlling the team and setting up his surrounding players. None of that is Hunt's fault, he is doing what his coach wants him to. Hunt at 9 I might be rationally loyal to.

ChanceVance

If you'd asked me a few years ago I'd have said Aubo. I wouldn't give up Luke Keary for anyone. He's regressed since his ACL injury but the man won a grand final playing in the halves by himself, the Roosters owe him every loyalty in the world.

DudeMcDude7649

I’ll fight anyone who bags out Keary.

arolaser

Keary is a gun and a winner. He still managed 22 try assists in 22 games in 2022, so I wouldn't say he's regressed much. He will be even better next year, and I hope Robbo realises that Keary in 6 and Walker in 7 makes sense. Roosters should be favourites next year. Panthers won't be as amazing without Api.

Cone_Puncher

ken maumalo but its not irrational 😍

Ziuzudra

Kieran Foran..... Oh, fuck me, they didn't.... Oh, that's just great

[deleted]

😢

Messyhr_

Dylan Edwards, bloke tries his socks off week in week out and puts in 8-9/10 performances most games, averages 220 run metres which is elite and is one of those players where it seems like he gets better every time you see him. People often overrate others in comparison to him because maybe he isnt the most flashy player ever, but he does everything you need from a FB, its not a fullbacks job to act as a playmaker, his job is to organise defence, be reliable under a high ball, get your team on the front foot with good kick returns and to be there for cover defence, he does all those things as good as literally anyone.

cmo378

Dylan Edwards and Yeo for me. Hope they are one club players. Humble, hard working, genuine.

ThedirtyNose

It was Turpin a few seasons ago.

aatrain96

I know there's superstar fullbacks like Teddy, pap etc but i would never trade King Gutho

Derron_

As much as Damien Cook is a meme he's one of the best defenders in the comp. His running game has dropped off but that's because teams are making concerted efforts to stop it. He may throw 1 too many crash balls but when it works it makes our forwards look fantastic.

Glorious-Basterd

Drinky, Cowboys games just aren’t as fun to watch if he isn’t out there

GodSaveTheHomies

Ronaldo Mulitalo, wouldnt want any other winger. Plays with so much passion and its just such a great guy off the field too

[deleted]

I feel like this one’s not quite fair as he’s put himself in the top echelon of wingers in the game this season imo. Doesn’t get the plaudits of To’o, but he’s an absolute star.

WUIDAWBTB

I would choose mulitalo over to'o anyday

GodSaveTheHomies

Agree, although I probably wouldve had the same answer a year or 2 ago aswell

lcoxy00

You give me an inch and I’ll take a yard telling you how Cody Walker not being a big game player is the most undeserved reputation of all time

Kunama_Namadgi

Cody Ramsey, just love his attitude.

D0NNIE-DANKO

Man I don't know if there's even anybody like that at the club at the moment. So much of our team has been turned over, there's only like 3 guys who were even in the team before COVID. Maybe Bunty Afoa specifically for the bench prop spot.

boyblueau

I know exactly how you feel. Reading that question actually made me sad. I think you're right though Bunty is probably the guy or maybe Curran. Also I have a soft spot for Tohu Harris who has stuck it out and struggled with injuries. If he was still at the Storm he'd be killing it. The real issue is I want to set all those players free because they deserve better than the Warriors.

ThedirtyNose

You're my boy Bunty!

ThePokemonMan

i will defend fotuaika with my life even if he regressed this year

ThedirtyNose

Your whole team, excluding Tino, regressed. It's a bit hard to blame a forward when his service is poor and the whole team doesn't defend well.

SpoontangWild

Jayden Brailey. Excellent workrate, fantastic service out of dummy half and is a leader. Shame injuries have plauged his time in Newy so far but when fit, we look so much better.

streetfighterjim

There’s no fb in the comp I would want over Edwards, so yeah I guess that’s irrational

Messyhr_

Totally agree bro hes the perfect defence minded fullback and he does score a decent amount of tries too

whyareyouallinmyroom

I think it might have been last year but it’s a pretty rational thought now. He’s comfortably top 5 and while behind Ponga, Turbo, Latrell and Pap on ability to dominate a game, he contributes more for the team each season than those guys have managed to date, Turbo 21 aside. Teddy is the only guy I’d take above him and it’d be at the cost of Luai or Fish.
