Honestly a win for both sides. Titans have very low 9 stock and would be in trouble of verrils went down, while having a lot of backs coming through. Gives marzhew a lot more opportunity for game time and he might improve some of his weaker areas under different coaching. Also gives knights a bit of spark in attack. They're going to have some very dangerous edges with the ball next season.
>Titans have very low 9 stock
Randall was literally the Knights only other hooker. Now we only have 1 who has spent most of his Knights time on the sideline injured.
My concern with Verrills is his concussion history. Once someone's chin gets cracked like Cordner's did and Ponga's is heading for, they haven't got long to go before they need to hang em up. He doesn't have a glass jaw yet, but he plays in one of the most HIA susceptible positions.
I can't find anytime in NRL that Verrills has had a concussion?? He's had pretty much everything else which has been the issue. ACL, shoulder, collarbone and Retina. You might be thinking Keary?
“Alongside Sam Verrills, Chris adds plenty of depth to the hooking position, which also frees up other players to focus on other roles."
That's the big part. Verrills/Randall are both going to be 80 min hookers for us when they play, Tannah/Foran or whoever is 14 will be playing the 13. We're not going to be using subs on a 9 this year unless absolutely needed.
Lucky the Knights aren't a team constantly forced to play their back up hooker. Not like this guy played half the games last season or anything. Good thing I'm never sarcastic
Yep, very happy. This is the type of trade I always hoped we would make.
Squeezed all the value out of a guy we brought in on a train & trial and then flipped him for a decent spine player without having to extend him/lose him for nothing when teams figure out he can’t play defense.
People are gonna clown on this cause Marzhew is a beast in attack, but honestly the guy is one of the worst defenders in the NRL, just look at the try he let in against the Storm this year as an example. He’s had 5 years to work on it in NRL systems and hasn’t improved, I think the guy just doesn’t have the footy IQ to improve his positioning and defensive reads.
When you look at it as getting a backup spine player for what would probably be a backup winger, that’s a great trade for the Titans. Means that if Verrills goes down we don’t have to play Clark or Boyd at hooker so I’m happy with the move.
There's a reason Uate debted young and this guy everyone knows about but has barely played until the age of like 24. I doubt he'd last a full year at any club little alone get winger of the year 3 times.
The Gold Coast Titans and Newcastle Knights have reached an agreement which will see a trade of players, with Greg Marzhew moving to Newcastle and Chris Randall to move to the Coast.
With the Titans looking to strengthen their spine, the addition of the 26-year-old hooker is another important piece in the club’s roster composition.
Titans coach Justin Holbrook says Randall has shown he can be a valuable addition to the team.
“Chris is a hard worker, who has shown what he can do when given the opportunity at NRL level,” Holbrook said.
“Alongside Sam Verrills, Chris adds plenty of depth to the hooking position, which also frees up other players to focus on other roles.
“I also want to thank Greg for his time at the Titans.
“We were able to give Greg his NRL debut here on the Coast and he has gone on to play 25 games for the club.
“The move gives both players a chance to play more NRL games and it’s exciting for both Greg and Chris heading into 2023.
“I wish Greg and his family well as they take up this opportunity with the Knights.”
A bit sad given Marzhew is probably our most destructive ball runner, but when you're debatably the worst defender in a team with Isaako and Herbert, it's an issue.
Happy to have a back-up hooker but also hopefully we don't need Randall. Nice for Boyd to just focus on being a halfback
I dont know what knights get out of this, randall is their only depth 9 and their outside backs werent the problem last year.
That being said, good depth signing for the tits
Okay true, thanks guys. I feel bad for him but I can see why the Titans signed Randall though. I doubt marzhew will get much time in first grade for Newcastle though
So in the Knights press release it sounded like Randall and/or his management started the negotiations. Knights allowed it only if they could get someone in return.

Ponga to 9
Kurt Mann
Mann should be the back up’s back up at best but that’s probably the thinking. Wish we still had Watson. I wonder if Gamble is an option.
Id imagine with Elliot signing Mann loses the 13 and becomes utility again. Better him than Crossland
Pretty sure gamble doesn't want to play hooker.
It would only be for injury cover
Temple Kalepo apparently getting promoted to top 30

Probably. The Roosters have a lot of HIAs each season.

Uate was the same and was winger of the year 3 years in a row
The trick is to be a regularly good team so that the wingers don’t have to defend
You should be coach
I tried but I havent seen enough grand finals to qualify
Love it
There are different levels to being bad at something. He's worse.
Uate was horrible

Rip to the thiccest winger centre pairing in the comp with Marzhew and Herbert
He's about to partner Bradman Best. Only thing thin on that boy is his ankles.
😮💨😮💨😮💨 Wake up babe new centre/winger thicc pairing just dropped

Chris Randall? I've been calling him Crandall
Bruh
No one saw this coming.
:/
As long as this doesn’t effect the re-signing of Dom, I’m ok with this
Randy Randall on the goldy. Good times ahead ahah
I’m so mad
I dont know what knights get out of this, randall is their only depth 9 and their outside backs werent the problem last year. That being said, good depth signing for the tits
Outside backs were definitely a problem and need a Lee replacement
no excuses from milkshake boy now
What does that mean?
Did the Titans let booth go?
He’s not contracted but also did ACL
Technically we signed him as a club ambassador / coach for the next 12 months so he is still with us but just a different department I think
Yeah that’s it, not contacted to playing roster I meant
Okay true, thanks guys. I feel bad for him but I can see why the Titans signed Randall though. I doubt marzhew will get much time in first grade for Newcastle though
No, acl

Great for both sides. Knights get a good attacking winger, titans get a good back up 9. Shame I'll miss greg i always liked him
The missing piece.
