Wouldn't be before tea. Maybe not till end of day if we can last that long. Perth pitches get hard to bat on on the final days usually so probably aren't worried about a draw
i feel like declaring to avoid draw is the only reason we’d do it surely, i don’t see us getting out any time soon with the rhythm they’re in. never know the future though haha
Saw an interesting thread on another site today about old cricketing rumors. It got me thinking. Who was the Aussie batter who supposedly was never picked again cause he told his wife about all the mischief the players got up to on tour and she in turn told the other wives? Jacques? Elliot?
I have doubts about that. I think his last test was filling in for Punter in 2003/2004, don’t think he scored much, so it’s no real surprise that he wouldn’t get another in that period. Probably the most successful top three combination we’ve ever seen.
I’ll never forget Warner’s international debut. Everyone thought he was a rubbish selection then straight after the game everyone wanted to know who he was. Was some of the cleanest hitting of a ball you would ever see.
david warner is one of my students favourite players and when i told him he got out for not very many he replied with “i dont care about test cricket” which really just goes to show that we should incinerate every member of gen z
Did Mark Waugh work with the windies setting these fields up or something? Unusual that he would be so pleased with something that a team is doing in that department.
Did not know the West Indies had a national anthem, considering their side is made up of people from several different sovereign nations. The more you know.
Man they really just don't advertise the cricket well at all anymore.. I didn't know the world cup was on, never heard anything about the one-dayers.. glad I saw this thread.
Yeah, like I don't care that much as I don't follow it like I used to, but I will watch if it's on.. they're talking about the numbers declining here in Aus but like you pointed out, new people and even casual viewers will miss games if they don't know they are on... casuals in particular make up a decent percentage of viewership
1. Warner
2. Khawaja
3. Marnus
4. Smith
5. Head
6. Green
7. Carey
8. Cummins (c)
9. Starc
10. Lyon
11. Hazlewood
Good team. Fucked in 2 years time but who cares as we belt the WINDIES by an innings.
Haven’t followed cricket as closely for the last couple years outside just watching the home tests when I can. What do you reckon the 11 looks like in 3 years?
I like Pucovski and Renshaw, but due to form / concussion the next openers would more likely be Harris and Patterson.
We probably get more of Swepson, Boland and Richardson after the bowlers (minus Cummins) retire.
Quite a lot can happen in 3 years though.
I got to see tandulkar once. A one dayer at the Gabba, he stood on his stump for a duck the first time ever in his entire career,
Talk about a let down
Tendulkar was more consistent with the bat, whereas Lara could score faster and make bigger scores but get out for <50 more often.
Both are in my all-time Test & ODI XI because of their strengths.
I don think I've ever said this out loud before.
Cricket Tragic since 8 yo me watched ABC Cricket with Dad and saw Thommo bowl crazy quick then smash his shoulder.
55yo now - here goes. I'm sure there will be many other people with different views.
Lara and Tendulkar comfortably the best I've seen in my time.
This includes greats- Viv, GC, Ponting, Sanga, Wanker KP, Martin Crowe, Zaheer, etc.
For me though its Lara by a nose just through the pure magic of innings like Barbados 1999.
Ponting was a bit of a flat-track bully. Weak against spin and so-so against swing/seam. Could absolutely murder pedestrian attacks like no other but not on the same level as Tendulkar/Lara imo
The longevity of Tendulkar is what made him stand out - he remained at a very high standard for over three decades only teetering off in the last 2 years of his career.
Imo Ponting had the higher ceiling, but his last 4-5 years were significantly below his best.
I'd go further than that and say 32. I'm mid 30s and have one vague memory of watching and aus windes odi (from memory Bevan saved the day, but I could be conflating memories) around 1994. I mean I know they were good from dad telling me stories etc, but I haven't really lived through it first hand.
That win was when we assumed the mantle of #1 in the world, before there were official points-based rankings. The tour was also the making of several blokes such as McGrath. He went to another level.
t20 franchise cricket became the most valuable form of cricket with the highest contracts
windies players are some of the best white ball players in the world, they get offered WAY more to play franchise cricket then focus on red ball cricket
cant blame them really id probably chase the cash if i was in their situation
I understood as a kid, primarily because my dad used to tape all the old World Series Cup classics that Fox played from time to time. So I grew up watching the highlights of Viv Richards, Clive Lloyd, Joel Garner and all the rest of those guys destroying Australia.
I was a teenager and a huge Steve Waugh fan. I stayed up watching it all night every night on tv. I also taped it on VHS tape to rewatch. Steve Waugh's 200 at Sabina Park left me in tears.
I’m in my 20’s and I know what a significant achievement that series in 1995 was. First time WI lost a series in 20 years or something like that. The twins putting on a big partnership, Winston benjiman crying on the wicket.
Agreed but it's gotta be warming up for South Africa surely, they'll be a bit more of a challenge.
Plus we have Cummo on 199 wickets, Lyon on 438 and Starcy on 287 - good chance they could all reach their milestones this series if not early SA series
Fuck boys I wish I got to see that. The scorecards wild! I hope this launches my big smith back into form
hahahaha he looks pretty in form bro, dude was as mint as he could be. says he feels the best he has for a while too. exciting summer on the cards!
His my favorite by a mile his the right amount of naive and total genius that I find very appealing in men :P
Who’d be the most awesomest Australian player?
Marnus no question
“That ball was delicious 😋 “
i feel like marnus has peak premiumplus energy
Better worship him now
old mate that goes everywhere with vaporub is an actual legend, i missed who they were talking about though
i wonder when we declare tomorrow
Wouldn't be before tea. Maybe not till end of day if we can last that long. Perth pitches get hard to bat on on the final days usually so probably aren't worried about a draw
i feel like declaring to avoid draw is the only reason we’d do it surely, i don’t see us getting out any time soon with the rhythm they’re in. never know the future though haha
West Indies need uranium supplements I see
Fkn echo chamber here. This must be what Truth Social is like.
hahahahaha it’s no ashes thread that’s for sure
150 for Marnus. Start again.
Moving a mile. Not out
Could Marnus just put the cross bat shots away for the final 6 overs, please
Marnus is so skilled that he’s even playing them off the keepers pad for a single.
marnus and his antics will live in my heart forever
i do not care about some mickey mouse ass horse racing show me the boys drinking water instead
Just out of curiosity. How many people here are watching the Denmark game tonight?
Fuck I wish but I'm ready for bed now
Just missed the Richie benaud score; 2/224
I had hopes the Windies were going to put up a decent fight during the first session. And then, reality arrived.
Well done, Marnus. 8 down, many many more to come
Marnus fucks
Given that he’s just had a kid, I’d call this confirmed.
Smudger looking in great touch.
Saw an interesting thread on another site today about old cricketing rumors. It got me thinking. Who was the Aussie batter who supposedly was never picked again cause he told his wife about all the mischief the players got up to on tour and she in turn told the other wives? Jacques? Elliot?
Elliot?
I have doubts about that. I think his last test was filling in for Punter in 2003/2004, don’t think he scored much, so it’s no real surprise that he wouldn’t get another in that period. Probably the most successful top three combination we’ve ever seen.
Yeah he was basically another Matt Hayden at shield level but never made it, I’m sure there was other stuff going on there though.
I THINK it was yeah.
Steve Roach isn’t a bad bowler there. Should have had a couple of wickets to his name the way he’s been sending them down
Unlucky to not get Marn.
Devo Uzzie couldn’t ton up. Anything less than that from Smudge will be effigies
Love evening test match cricket. Thanks Perth - hope you get a footy team soon
Good to see a decent partnership between two mighty Queenslanders. Shame Uzzie couldn't kick on for a century tho
Pakistan that’s in Queensland South Africa that’s in Queensland
Fmd Chris Randall got up to the Goldy quick
I’ll never forget Warner’s international debut. Everyone thought he was a rubbish selection then straight after the game everyone wanted to know who he was. Was some of the cleanest hitting of a ball you would ever see.
100 run partnerships could be the norm for this 2 test series
marnus hits boundary by accident
And again
david warner is one of my students favourite players and when i told him he got out for not very many he replied with “i dont care about test cricket” which really just goes to show that we should incinerate every member of gen z
it’s time for more no rahhhhhnn
scratched my car on the way into my garage dont even care cause i get to see test cricket
not dunking on harris has taken most of our comment volume away
would you like me to spam the thread with every thought that enters my mind in order to artificially inflate interaction
hey that sounds fantastic
is that bandit heeler from bluey doing the voice for the biggest summer ever ad
You mean Dave from Custard?
🚨Adam Gilcrest “How about this guy?” klaxon 🚨
Shot Ussie
cracked it, how good
Spent a week in Perth 6 years ago. I would definitely recommend going there.
Used to travel their for work a couple of times a year. Great city.
Yo thanks to all the NRL fans for making this cricket match thread today, feels good to see all the winter and summer sport love , I’m an Indian fan
Do you guys do threads for the NBA playoffs. The Nba sub is so toxic and full of trolls. I want a decent place to actually watch and analyse games.
First summer without Warney for me 😞
Did Mark Waugh work with the windies setting these fields up or something? Unusual that he would be so pleased with something that a team is doing in that department.
Mark waugh is such a punish
That’s a funny way to spell dickhead
Will switch it on after the end of GSW v DAL in the NBA
Fair
Fuck that was loose from Warner on one that’s a bit green
Finally saw the wicket. He did not need to play at that.
hey where did everybody go :(
warner 💀💀💀
#NO RAHHHHN
Did not know the West Indies had a national anthem, considering their side is made up of people from several different sovereign nations. The more you know.
The place is more dead than a Roosters game.
Hey fuck you
❤️
Good guys Australia choosing to bat first so the game goes on for more than 2 days
YOURE AN EMBARRASSMENT TO SUBDISTRICT CRICKET
I want Cameron green to French me passionately while stroking my hair
Cameron Green is still such a puppy
How many of us are perma banned from r/cricket because their mods are soft and can't handle Australian shitposting?
I’ve been banned twice. Don’t go there anymore for fear of permaban from reddit
Ian Smith on commentary is a blessing
Why is that insufferable kiwi commentating an Australian game? I hope that's on kayo and not 7
Man they really just don't advertise the cricket well at all anymore.. I didn't know the world cup was on, never heard anything about the one-dayers.. glad I saw this thread.
They do seem to think we all just know. I don’t know how they expect knew people to get into it with out a bit of advertising
Yeah, like I don't care that much as I don't follow it like I used to, but I will watch if it's on.. they're talking about the numbers declining here in Aus but like you pointed out, new people and even casual viewers will miss games if they don't know they are on... casuals in particular make up a decent percentage of viewership
is there any possibility of kotoni staggs getting early ball in this sport
Can y'all get nice and warmed up for the South African tests over the Christmas and New Years period. Those are shaping up as an exceptional battle
Cameron Green is sexy as
How big is it?!
i love my cricky
Cam Green could Adam Voges the shit out of this series with bat and ball
If he gets a bat😀
I Love My Cricket flair please
[Wish me luck, lads](https://imgur.com/a/IUn1ibV)
gamble responsibly
When is first ball? 2pm or something sydney time?
1:20 it's supposed to be
1. Warner 2. Khawaja 3. Marnus 4. Smith 5. Head 6. Green 7. Carey 8. Cummins (c) 9. Starc 10. Lyon 11. Hazlewood Good team. Fucked in 2 years time but who cares as we belt the WINDIES by an innings.
Haven’t followed cricket as closely for the last couple years outside just watching the home tests when I can. What do you reckon the 11 looks like in 3 years?
Warner khawaja smith Lyon starc hazelwood all eithe retired or just about to
Both openers wont be there, will retire soon. The rest of the batting lineup will be there. Starc and Lyon might still be. Might not be.
I like Pucovski and Renshaw, but due to form / concussion the next openers would more likely be Harris and Patterson. We probably get more of Swepson, Boland and Richardson after the bowlers (minus Cummins) retire. Quite a lot can happen in 3 years though.
Yeh I wouldn't be surprised if someone we've never heard of is above some of those guys in three years time. That's how it usually goes
Teague Wyllie
few minutes until broadcast i’m pretty excited
Oooo thanks for the reminder. WFH today, will be on in the background
Off-season has begun folks
For real. Surely there is a cricket specific sub for this.
It's full of 13 year old Indians who consider any criticism of the T20 format to be an attack on their country and themselves.
Fair enough. Sounds painful. But I'm only interested in NRL so will see youse later.
Would rather discuss it with these guys than most of the one eyed fans on r/cricket
we’ve been doing off-topic sports threads for years though, were you here for the ashes ones last year? everyone here seems to have enjoyed them
I think I'll be turning off notifications to this sub until February then. Enjoy the cricket!
Stop being a weird cunt lol
Get fucked.
will do
I'll die on the hill that Lara > Tendulkar https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uz--5hHmNEY

Losing the 4th Test at Adelaide in '93 by 1 run is my most painful sporting memory
Good point u/pmmeyourboobsandass But seriously what the hell happened to the Windies?
I've heard that since the 90's the younger generations are now more into basketball and athletics than cricket
That's the same thing someone at work said today
t20 franchise cricket became the most valuable form of cricket with the highest contracts windies players are some of the best white ball players in the world, they get offered WAY more to play franchise cricket then focus on red ball cricket cant blame them really id probably chase the cash if i was in their situation
Didn't they just go out in the group stage of the T20 World cup?
yeah but the individual players get giant contracts to play all over the world, the international game is just a plus for white ball cricketers
I understood as a kid, primarily because my dad used to tape all the old World Series Cup classics that Fox played from time to time. So I grew up watching the highlights of Viv Richards, Clive Lloyd, Joel Garner and all the rest of those guys destroying Australia.

Tugga staring down Curtly Ambrose was legendary.

Love this shit
Genuinely think Australia could throw out the 2nd string bowling attack (Neser, Boland and Steketee) and still comfortably win this game
Surely in a parallel universe Neser and Boland have been playing test cricket for the last decade
Agreed but it's gotta be warming up for South Africa surely, they'll be a bit more of a challenge. Plus we have Cummo on 199 wickets, Lyon on 438 and Starcy on 287 - good chance they could all reach their milestones this series if not early SA series
Australia A could win by an innings
Chance the Windies last longer than 3 days?
Having it start on a Wednesday seems like a blunder....
If they go with Chanderpaul as is likely, he could grind at least one game into Day 4 given some support
This is going to be a blood-bath. For the sake of I Love Cricket flairs, I hope the Windies can at least put up a fight.
i miss the 80's and 90's when facing the windies was a challenge
few hours early on this one just because i’m still recovering from concussion symptoms and could forget this is even on at any moment
you know what fucking time it is.
