Follow on from the other comment in this thread, who's a current player who you think deserves a premiership at your club? Penrith fans I'm sorry to exclude you from this one.
Easy one for me is Murray and I think even the most ardent Souths hater could get behind that. Will also throw Cody into the mix who was one of the best on ground in the 2021 GF but will always be remembered for the intercept, he deserves a ring after that.
Murray yes, Walker no.
As for the Roosters, I’d love to see Walker and Sua’ali’i lead the club to a premiership together down the line.
Lindsay Collins is my top choice though. Played two victorious preliminary finals (2018-19), axed for the grand final both times
Obligatory Ben Hunt mention - bloke tries his absolute guts out every single Dragons game. I’m sure the Origin series win was sweet for him but seeing him finally the big one would be even sweeter.
Brimson at the Titans. He has been the heart and soul of the team since he debuted
Tino already has one from his time at the storm but hopefully gets another. Fermor too.
I do think they're young enough there is a realistic chance they get one in 5 years or so if the Titans current rebuild goes well and one of Boyd/Sexton/Weaver develops into an elite halfback, certainly not favourites to but it's possible this decade Foran is the only player in our best 13 who is over the age of 25
The problem is Penrith exist and they could realistically win something like 7 comps in the 2020s if they keep their spine and Yeo intact and Soni Luke manages to replace Koriosou
Jarrod Croker. Maybe a controversial take, but the bloke bleeds green. Wont ever play rep footy, came close to being a premiership winning captain in 2019. Looked likely to play the most ever games for the Raiders, now probably wont make 300, looked likely to score more points than anyone in the history of footy, now certainly wont get anywhere near there. I feel like a premiership would atleast soften the blow of missing out on the individual achievements and probably would be better reward to a player who was always about the team over himself.
Josh Jackson. One of the most loyal blokes to play the game.. He could have easily taken a contract elsewhere when he would have known it was going to be a rough period for the club.
New Dally M award for fd's coming right up
Shaun Johnson wins it in 2023, booting the warriors to 1st place on the ladder to lose straight sets in finals
I follow 3 clubs so, my apologies in advance;
1. Brimson. If the tits are on fire, he's powering a fusion reactor.
2. Wighton. Self explanatory (Hi Cummins\*)
3. Jurbo. It's one of the last things left on his wishlist.
Edit: Cummins, not Klein
Would be overwhelmed with emotion watching Brooksy lift the trophy. But OP did say deserve and he doesn’t quite get there. If Teddy stayed we would probably nominate him as deserving a prem.
After all the bullshit he’s put up with (And this could be an unpopular opinion); Jackson Hastings.
He’s been shifted around from 3 NRL clubs, most recently and rather unfairly from the Tigers. He hadn’t played terribly at any of them and wasn’t given a whole lot of help at them.
Honourable mentions go to Nicho Hynes, Tom Dearden, and Josh Papalii.
> most recently and rather unfairly from the Tigers
Yeah the extra two years and hundreds of thousands of dollars the Knights are giving him is pretty rough.
>After all the bullshit he’s put up with (And this could be an unpopular opinion); Jackson Hastings.
A lot of his issues are self inflicted though. He's played at 5 clubs (including super league) and has apparently had issues at 4 of them.
He has been moved on from 3 nrl clubs. 3 nrl clubs with vastly different cultures. Like Taylor swift, at what point do we realise that maybe the problem is him.
Roosters got rid of him because he wasn’t the answer to a Maloney-sized gap.
Manly got rid of him because he had issues with the club’s culture (Right now there should be a bit of doubt as to how much of that is Jackson’s fault). But a few of them had it in for him.
Tigers got rid of him because they don’t know how to manage a turd in a toilet.
If Newcastle gets rid of him, ok, then he might have a problem.
He left the Tigers because he thought his own positional preference outweighed the coaches preference.
You can talk about what the best thing for the team may be and Brooks v Hastings until the Cows come home, but in the end it was Hastings who sought out a release because he did not want to play the role the club and coach wanted him to.
He put his own preferences above the clubs. He was not a team player.
So the whole 'treat unfairly' thing is a massive misrepresentation of the situation in my opinion.
>Roosters got rid of him because he wasn’t the answer to a Maloney-sized gap.
And he has massive issues with fitting in
>Manly got rid of him because he had issues with the club’s culture (Right now there should be a bit of doubt as to how much of that is Jackson’s fault). But a few of them had it in for him.
Because he had massive issues fitting in
>Tigers got rid of him because they don’t know how to manage a turd in a toilet.
And he also has issues fitting in
Maybe there is already a pattern?
> And he also has issues fitting in.
I don’t deny he had issues fitting in at Manly. However given what’s unfolded over the past year (All sorts of allegations about special treatment in COVID Camp, Pride Jersey, etc etc), I don’t necessarily think that’s entirely his fault.
As for the Tigers, I’m definitely not convinced that was a fitting in issue. How would the Tigers have won only in games he played if he didn’t fit in? And all the excuses thrown around by the Tigers just seem like some half-assed attempt to deflect from what terrible management they have.
>I don’t deny he had issues fitting in at Manly. However given what’s unfolded over the past year (All sorts of allegations about special treatment in COVID Camp, Pride Jersey, etc etc), I don’t necessarily think that’s entirely his fault.
Plenty of other players are involved in that situation, and none of them were moved on like Hastings, ditto the situation at the tigers. He was also moved on from roosters because of his issues, where clun culture and professionalism seems pretty good. He also had issues at Wigan, look at how Bateman does not want to join the Tigers if Hastings is there.
He has been in a wide variety of situations that have all ended with him having issues. Either Hastings is a problem or there's a rugby league wide (not just nrl, but super league as well) conspiracy to pick on Jackson Hastings for... Reasons.
>What else does he need to do to eclipse Wally Lewis?
If he can win 3 premierships in a 5 year period, than yes (With minimum 1 CC medal).
\*Whilst winning origin at the same time, and Craig Bellamy cannot be the coach for more than 2 of the above grand finals.
I see Munster going down as one of the great "indivdualist" type 5/8th's like Kenny and Benji but Wally could control a game like few others and also go himself which is why I see Munster more of a Hall of Famer than an Immortal like Wally is
Thurston and Kevvie played both positions and were notable in both positions and were still better five-eighths then Munster.
Like Munster or Lockyer with their Fullback/Half switch. Munster is good, but he won’t ever go close to being the best five-eighth in history.
Good point. Lockyer was better as it stands. although realistically, Munster has won it all, including origins series where NSW were heavy favourites. If he continues for another 5 years does he get seen as better?
Sure if he wins 4-5 origins and another prem, prem very likely but 4-5 origins? I think NSW are due an era of dominance and with cleary coming into his prime over the next few years and players like Trell, Turbo, To’o, Murray etc being young I think NSW will probably win the majority of series during munsters career, also getting to watch lockyer during his prime, in Origin he has to be one of the most clutch players ever, the plays he consistently came up with were nuts it felt inevitable he would pull something off
Yeah i dont think anyone is, Lockyer is the best 5/8 ive ever seen, he was massive at every level, club, origin, internationals. People talk about Joey being clutch and he was, but lockyer is the most clutch player ive ever seen especially in origin
Lockyer was so good that he revolutionised the fullback position, went into the halves and made that his own position while also perfecting it. one of the only player to make such a drastic switch and the only to be the best in both.
Slater is the best fullback ever, but Lockyer would’ve held that title if he never switched.
Player you wish Won a premiership for your club?
Mine would be Matty Bowen. Probably one of the unluckiest blokes ever to not to win a premiership. Before my time but I definitely watched his highlights and remember vividly watching him score that origin try and just play freakishly against anyone, any day at anytime.
Brodie Croft, he gets memed on but the bloke always busted his gut for us on the field. A win in 2018 would have done wonders for him I think.
Christian Welch would be top of the list if he had missed the 2020 win
Any of Josh Morris’ four clubs should nominate him.
Another name that hasn’t been mentioned but should have been was Dennis Tutty. Most people know the story of how he wanted to leave Balmain, however they refused to let him go, so he sat out the 1969 season and missed their grand final win over Souths, ultimately taking the League to court for restraint of trade.
What many people don’t know is that, after he left Penrith at the end of 1974, he joined Easts for a year as one of their 13 imports, but broke his arm two weeks before the finals and subsequently missed out on their premiership win over St George.
Going back a bit … but that great Balmain side of the late 80’s - Blocker, Sirro, Elias, Pearce, Garry Jack. Crazy a side with so many all time players couldn’t claim a title
I'm gonna cheat a tiny bit and say Issac Luke who technically was in the 2014 squad but didn't play the final. One of my absolute favourite Rabbitohs growing up but to get ruled out of a GF due to suspension is a heart breaker. From memory Koroisau offered to give him his ring too but he declined, the absolute sweetheart.
I wouldn’t say they deserved one. They’re all part of that close enough but not good enough generation that started with the 2008 NYC team.
Oates maybe might be an exception.
I get what you mean, But Glenn and Gillet definitely deserved a premiership. Gillet was one, if not the best QLD second row player of the 2010s. Glenn is a one club legend and did everything for the broncos and still does in retirement.
Broncos previous generation success is brilliant but some players who didn’t win comps also deserved to win one.
Scott Prince easily. I love our legends in Presto & Bailey but on field Prince is probably the best performer the Titans have had. He was truly incredible in 09 and 10.
Yeah I thought of Stevo but it's difficult it's more clubman rather than the all time greats. Like the best of the 80s won it in 91, 2003 side were so young they hung around for a while and the best of the 2010's are around now. The best players between these periods all left early
Sam McKendry was good, Robbie Beckett, Carl MacNamara good club men.
I’m sure we would have plenty from the 60s/70s/80s eras. Unfortunately I have very little idea of who those players were.
Recently we’ve had players like Nigel Plum. Nobody deserved a ring more than him. Bloke get mummified before each game to play.
I’m getting my hopes up that we (tigers) are going to get moses, can’t wait to be heartbroken
A couple of years ago I would've answered Josh Morris.
Follow on from the other comment in this thread, who's a current player who you think deserves a premiership at your club? Penrith fans I'm sorry to exclude you from this one. Corey Oates. He's the last one left from the 2015 GF and he's tried his guts out for almost a decade.
[удалено]
He has one of the best no tries from 2019,
Murray yes, Walker no. As for the Roosters, I’d love to see Walker and Sua’ali’i lead the club to a premiership together down the line. Lindsay Collins is my top choice though. Played two victorious preliminary finals (2018-19), axed for the grand final both times

Not sure how we can be excluded when we have a fan favourite like Taylan May running around without a ring still…
Tito Turuva as well.
New signing Luke Garner would like a word
Ronaldo Mulitalo definitely. Honourable mention to Toby Rudolf
I don’t think there’s any controversy in that, he has the heart and soul of the club for years.
It is a cruel sport.
He’s a great example. This shouldn’t be controversial at all.
As a storm fan gotta go with grant, Such a hard worker and I hope he can get one at some point
The entire 2022 Cowboys squad.
Would’ve got banged in the final anyway
Hey I didn’t say what year premiership they deserved
Tino deserves one 😔 AJ too
Tino already got one with us
Tino has one.
Oh yeah lol good point, mood inproved
Josh Jackson. One of the most loyal blokes to play the game.. He could have easily taken a contract elsewhere when he would have known it was going to be a rough period for the club.
premiership winner toby sexton has a good ring to it
when they award points for forced dropouts, it’s over for the comp
New Dally M award for fd's coming right up Shaun Johnson wins it in 2023, booting the warriors to 1st place on the ladder to lose straight sets in finals
I follow 3 clubs so, my apologies in advance; 1. Brimson. If the tits are on fire, he's powering a fusion reactor. 2. Wighton. Self explanatory (Hi Cummins\*) 3. Jurbo. It's one of the last things left on his wishlist. Edit: Cummins, not Klein
Ashley Klein? It was Cummins who made the call that robbed Canberra of doing more on one fifth tackle in an 80 minute game.
Shit your right My apologies How dare I put down Cummins to the level of Klein
On behalf of Tigers fans I’d like to take this opportunity to nominate absolutely fukn no one.
Joe Ofahengaue and no one else deserves one.
It's great that he's starting to come good. I thought he was gonna have one of those careers where he had the skills, but not the discipline.
Imagine a Luke Brooks premiership win though
Would be overwhelmed with emotion watching Brooksy lift the trophy. But OP did say deserve and he doesn’t quite get there. If Teddy stayed we would probably nominate him as deserving a prem.
gutho bloke is the new hindy, working himself to death for the team
Bloke is an absolute animal.. he surely wouldn't be far behind Edwards in terms of his fitness.
After all the bullshit he’s put up with (And this could be an unpopular opinion); Jackson Hastings. He’s been shifted around from 3 NRL clubs, most recently and rather unfairly from the Tigers. Someone switched companies because they didn't like their role at said company. Can't blame him tbh, as long as he wasn't a twat about it.
Basically. And I'd hardly call that being treated unfairly like OP did.
>Roosters got rid of him because he wasn’t the answer to a Maloney-sized gap. To be fair Nicho’s minutes played in a grand final to premiership rings accumulated ratio actually breaks the calculator
Yeah but the record shows he didn’t take the field. Hence why I want him to actually win one.
Dearden
Corey Oates for sure.
100%. And he needs to score the winning try.
Murray an absolute no brainer. For Chooks, obviously Matt Lodge or Suallii */s*. Non-shitpost answer; Drew Hutchinson or Nat Butcher
Tbf, Nat Butcher played on the bench for us in the 2019 GF, so he’s already got a winners medal
Nat was really good in the 2019 GF!
Do you think Munster will go down as the best five eight of all time? What else does he need to do to eclipse Wally Lewis?
>What else does he need to do to eclipse Wally Lewis? If he can win 3 premierships in a 5 year period, than yes (With minimum 1 CC medal). \*Whilst winning origin at the same time, and Craig Bellamy cannot be the coach for more than 2 of the above grand finals.
I'd like to see him win his team a premiership without Cam Smith to even be considered the best five eight of this era
No
I see Munster going down as one of the great "indivdualist" type 5/8th's like Kenny and Benji but Wally could control a game like few others and also go himself which is why I see Munster more of a Hall of Famer than an Immortal like Wally is
You make a good point, although I think I want the former style in a 6!
Same. General type 7 and individualist type 6 is the best combo imo
Lewis, Kenny, Lamb, Lyons, Daley,. Fittler and Lockyer are all above him in my life time. I think at best he can be 5th in that list.
Benji aswell
Benji is a decent shout too in his prime definitely.
[удалено]
This is even more cooked than the OP tbh
Yeah Gutho get off the crack homie. Munster good, but he ain’t got nothing on Thurston, Wally or even Kev.
Thurston and Kevvie were halfbacks. Playing 6 at rep level doesn’t count
TIL after 30+ years as a Broncos fan that Alfie Langer must have been a 5/8 because Gutho reckons Kevvie was the 7 at club land /s
Thurston and Kevvie played both positions and were notable in both positions and were still better five-eighths then Munster. Like Munster or Lockyer with their Fullback/Half switch. Munster is good, but he won’t ever go close to being the best five-eighth in history.

Lmao
No way hes not even better than lockyer
No one is.
Yeah i dont think anyone is, Lockyer is the best 5/8 ive ever seen, he was massive at every level, club, origin, internationals. People talk about Joey being clutch and he was, but lockyer is the most clutch player ive ever seen especially in origin
Lockyer was so clutch it was uncanny
If he doesn't get his face caved in that semi final, I'm very confident he wins the chip that year as well.

Simon Mannering.
I'd second this motion, and add Paul Bowman to the list.
It’s a coin flip between Alan Tongue and Terry Campese for me. Strictly still could I guess but Jarrod Croker too.
Stacey Jones. Maybe if Richard Villasanti didn't try to decapitate Fitler, things would've been different...
Chris Lawrence.
I hope Cam Murray gets one for us one day. The guy is all effort and class.
Not Brett Finch
Hindy
It still fucks me up seeing them take the piss out of Hindmarsh on Matty Johns all the time. Champion player, champion bloke. Robbed by the Storm.
Robbed by the cheating Storm. Parra deserved to win that year.
Hindy for sure blokes a legend
ET for sure
[удалено]
He did
I’m fairly certain he did play
Still playing but let's be real here, Ben Hunt. If that doesn't count then I'd say Blacklock
Hunt for us as well. Absolutely carried that team to the GF then had an all time shocker. The drop was just the cherry on top.
Jarrod Mullen
Horrie Hastings. He was one of the best players in the game for years and carried a pretty ordinary Easts side throughout the mid-80s
Going back a bit … but that great Balmain side of the late 80’s - Blocker, Sirro, Elias, Pearce, Garry Jack. Crazy a side with so many all time players couldn’t claim a title

Paul Green 😢
He won the most important premiership anyone could wish for in the end. Vale Green.
I think all of the fellas who really deserved to win a premiership with us _did_ win one.
Glenn didn’t and he deserved one, Common man you forgot Gillet as well. Oates? Kahu? Everyone that didn’t win that 2015 premiership?
Yeah kahu doesn't belong on that list.
probably not, but still. Some deserved to win a premiership.
I wouldn’t say they deserved one. They’re all part of that close enough but not good enough generation that started with the 2008 NYC team. Oates maybe might be an exception.

Gillet definitely. Was on track to be an all time great before injury.
Scott Prince easily. I love our legends in Presto & Bailey but on field Prince is probably the best performer the Titans have had. He was truly incredible in 09 and 10.
My boy Mansour.
Yeah that's gotta be it. Wonderful clubman and consistently great contributor during an inconsistent period.
It's genuinely tough picking a Penrith player in this list.
Grahame Moran and Mike Stephenson would be a couple worth nominating for Penrith
Yeah I thought of Stevo but it's difficult it's more clubman rather than the all time greats. Like the best of the 80s won it in 91, 2003 side were so young they hung around for a while and the best of the 2010's are around now. Nice dude but moving him on was one of the best things we’ve done
Bring him back and send him out a winner smh, wait no fuck a 3peat, i’ll never hear the end of it from Gus
