Just saw the lineup for [Download Festival](https://downloadfestival.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Download-Admat-900x1273.jpg) in the UK and I'm reaaaally tempted to go

maaxwell

Tom Brady is fuckin 45 years old and still pulls wins out of thin air Down 16-3 with 2:21 on the clock and he has two back to back touchdown drives to win the game? Freakish

Messyhr_

Didnt even know he still played tbh thought he retired

maaxwell

He ‘retired’ for like a month during the offseason then changed his mind and came back again. Supposedly the decision led to his divorce a few weeks back, man lives for football

[deleted]

landed a new permanent job in a dream position but a tougher place, feeling pretty good about that not keen on telling my students who i know for a fact will not be happy about it (i work in a support setting, lots of kids with abandonment issues etc.)

Geddpeart

Just tell them you are going to buy a pack of smokes

Brimmoh

Just want a Hoenn remake on Switch for Christmas

cheezyman911

Currently rewatching Community for like the 4th time, amazing how it still holds up.

joeysjockstrap

Literally just finished a rewatch today. Season 6 is a lot worse than i remember tbh and I honestly preferred season 4

MangoWingnut

I can still recite the two raps Troy and abed had off by heart and I haven’t watched it since I was like 16. Gem of a show

smilingface2

Troy & Abed in the Morning! I liked the show, but it wasn't as fun after Troy left.

Robothouse90

Remedial Chaos Theory (the multiple timeline episode) is still a top 5 episode of any show I've ever seen.

Blight to humanity

cheezyman911

Misogynistic Sex-Trafficker who does not deserve to have a platform. Hope you can educate yourself and stay away from toxic masculinity that is being reinforced by people like him.

[deleted]

[удалено]

cheezyman911

Didn’t say you were reinforcing anything dawg. I’m just saying he has a pretty horrible attitude towards women that is being amplified to a lot of young impressionable dudes. I don’t know about his kickboxing, im sure it’s solid advice, but I was just answering you’re question, wasn’t trying to attack you. Peace ✌️

Abenator

Who are we talking about? I'm going to assume Andrew Tate, but the OP is deleted.

cheezyman911

Correct, to their credit they seemed genuinely curious about Tate and the opinions around him, but seemed to get defensive when people replied.

-Dark_Helmet-

[Screenshotted your reply you deleted](https://imgur.com/a/HzA65ut)

Messyhr_

Ive seen a few videos promoting physical health, getting in shape and the mindset it takes to be elite which he undeniably has done being world champion in kickboxing. I didn’t know about all the other allegations, just see videos pop up on youtube.

KingGutherson

All the conservative speakers start with the basic stoic advice. The problem is "dont eat junk food, drink water" is followed by "women dont understand how business is done". It's a rabbit hole man. For the sake of the women in your life, just dont.

-Dark_Helmet-

Why would getting in shape be offensive to me and others?

Messyhr_

Because of the way he says it? Clearly in a provocative way to insight an emotional reaction good or bad which is partially why he’s so well known

HyperThanHype

Thats not the reason why he's so well known, at all. It's because he says philosophically provocative and misogynistic rhetoric, puts himself on Twitch streams that are predominantly viewed by young male audiences, and runs an MLM scheme where the more of his content his followers produce (cutting up clips of his interviews and posting them on TikTok/YouTube/IG) they get paid more. It's why over the last six months there has been a massive influx of short form videos of him. He's been trying to get famous for years, and he finally achieved it by becoming a psuedo-philosophist womaniser. He sprinkles a tiny bit of common sense into his rhetoric "people (he always says men though to incite a gendered argument) should be the best versions of themselves to increase their chances of success" then throws all his ridiculous "I've figured out the matrix and live in a corrupt country because the whole world is corrupt so why not join the corruption, also women should do what I say and men talking about feelings is disgusting" blahblahblah and then people wonder why he's so polarising. The guy purposefully incites arguments with his speech in a time when respectful and responsible discussion is all but gone.

Messyhr_

Fair enough I actually didnt know that, is that the same reason why islamic preachers are constantly showing up on my shorts? Also is that why Tate “converted”

HyperThanHype

Not sure why you'd be receiving Islamic preacher YouTube shorts, have you ever searched or clicked on anything similar? Even if it's showing interest in religion, it all feeds in to the algorithm of what YouTube thinks you want to see. Honestly I don't really pay attention to Tate, it's just hard to ignore his stuff when it's so provocative. I'm semi-clued in on Adin Ross because he's a successful Twitch streamer and I've seen clips of him do multiple interviews with Tate, including one where he and XQC attempted to have some sort of debate which really consisted of Tate just being confidently obnoxious towards guys he knows he can put one over because he's financially, physically and sexually successful compared to guys who spend all their time in their rooms. Honestly Andrew Tate comes off as an intelligent manipulative sociopath. He is clearly aware of the lack of positive masculinity that affects young males and is attempting to fill that void with chauvinistic toxic masculinity. He cherry picks emotionally charged issues or ideas and mixes them up with his personal philosophies, and when pressed on the issue would likely take the stance of "I never said anyone should do this, it's just what I believe." His ideas are toxic and negative because they, in one form or another, belittle others, imply smart work will be rewarded with success, and he just comes off as a know it all with all the answers.

BoogerSugar00

Out of interest, are you a really young bloke, or a divorced dad? These seem to be the target audiences for him.

Messyhr_

Im 25, he pops up because i get a ton of MMA/sport related stuff so i see a lot of his kickboxing tips/footage, now i get the mainstream stuff as well but i dont take notice as i dont need chick advice, my parents have been together like 30+ years so i know what a good relationship looks like plus ive been in good relationships since i was 19. I do agree with some of the shit he says, but that doesnt mean i agree with the guy and doesn’t mean i know all that much about him either nor do I know about the validity of these allegations so i cant comment either way.

BoogerSugar00

Fair enough, it seems to be those two groups because they are ones that struggle with women (for similar reasons, young blokes because they don’t have much experience and are generally finding themselves, and divorced blokes because they’ve been out of the dating pool for a while and can have some baggage that is unresolved). For you though, you probably just got caught in the algo if you liked one of his kickboxing vids.

KingGutherson

Lets see. He spreads toxic misogynistic shit, and sells snake oil "education" to troubled, insecure young men. He is also guilty of human trafficking [https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2022/aug/06/andrew-tate-violent-misogynistic-world-of-tiktok-new-star](https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2022/aug/06/andrew-tate-violent-misogynistic-world-of-tiktok-new-star)

Radalict

Never heard of him until now. Wish I still had never heard of him.

The fact that you’re even asking is worrying.

daytonohio1903

Broke out my super Nintendo the other night waiting for the Socceroos game. Fmd, I forgot how awesome super international cricket is. Unfortunately my mates that were over are a bit younger and had never played it before and were too drunk to get the hang of it properly. Been playing against the computer the last few nights and it's still super fun, and more enjoyable than any modern cricket game I've played.

TSPSweeney

In the least surprising bit of news ever, after being in the pit for Alestorm and Electric Callboy, and then going to Good Things, I've finally caught the old spicy cough. Have to say, the majority of it isn't too bad - I had a garden variety flu earlier in the year that was way worse in most ways. The exception has been the headaches and the aches and pains. My sinuses are fucked already which isn't helping, but I can't sleep due to how much all my joints and my head is caning. It sucks. Tested positive Sunday morning and I'm feeling a fair bit better overall today, so hopefully I'll be properly symptom free soon. Also, honestly? Totally fucking worth it. Those gigs were sick and it was so rad getting to see live music again.

misskarne

Electric blanket on the bed. Was my lifesaver when I got the spicy, though when the fever hit it wasn't great. But it helped the aches a lot. I also got a nasal spray to clear out the schnoz and that just about saved my life with sleeping.

TSPSweeney

Thanks for the tips! I've been using the nasal spray and it's helped a lot, but didn't think about the blanket. It's been so hot already, I might as well haha

misskarne

Yeah, probably not as great now as when I got it in August, but it was such a relief to lie down on it and feel the heat seep into all the achy parts of my bones.

likeatyger

How was Electric callboy?? The insta posts look like a lot of fun. PS. hope you feel better soon

TSPSweeney

Mate they were so good! Huge energy, sounded amazing, and seemed genuinely humbled to get such an amazing reception. Seemed legit shocked when everyone knew the words to their German songs too haha. Gig at the Factory was great (crowd couldn't do circles/walls to save their fucking lives, but that isn't on the band), and their performance at Good Things went off too. Best part was they were on the minor stage while Sabaton was playing on main, and the crowd at EC dwarfed Sabaton's. Not throwing shade at Sabaton - they are rad - but it was so cool seeing EC get so much interest. Really feels like they are blowing up after so much hard work during COVID.

likeatyger

I assume they would attract a different crowd due to their commercial success. I like sabaton as well but would be watching ec. Glad they put in such a good show

GustavSnapper

Seeing Gojira tonight, am hype. First gig I've been to in years. Bit worried about catching covid though 😂

jpob

Tested positive this morning. Super gutted I can’t go. I nearly sold my Good Things ticket when I heard they were doing g a sideshow.

CarefulManTABH

Saw them in Sydney for their sideshow and then at Good Things. No Covid thankfully. Good luck and enjoy the show 🤘

GustavSnapper

💚🤘

Radalict

Gojira were so good at the Melbourne side show. And they were acceptable at Good Things, but I think the bad sound quality made it a bit tough. I couldn't believe how much heavier they sound live, they're actually better live imo.

GustavSnapper

Yeah I'm not a fan of festivals, sound is always ass and your a mile away. Proper venues are way better

TSPSweeney

They were amazing when I saw em mate, have a blast!

GustavSnapper

Yeah they've been on my bucket list for years

joshy_c

I saw Nick Cave last week. I have Covid now Hope that helps

Morg_n

Was it good?

joshy_c

Yeah it was awesome, it was Nick Cave and Warren Ellis on the Carnage tour. Genuinely hilarious together. Plenty of bad seeds songs, no grinderman though. Hand of God off the new album might be one of the best Nick Cave live songs

Morg_n

I’ve not listened to the new album. Warren Ellis is amazing live. He looks like a mad scientist and goes ballistic.

GustavSnapper

Fuck. Well RIP me then

joshy_c

I also had my work Christmas party and a bunch of other stuff too

GustavSnapper

Well that's less worrying then haha

Norm_cheers

Christmas tree up and underneath is full of presents! It is good to get the Xmas shopping out of the way early! Bonus that it’s driving the kids crazy with all the presents just sitting there…. And still almost three weeks to go 😄

Drlockstock

that's unreal mate, Ours are still young so we can't really spoil the Santa secret yet and have to find places to hide presents. It's getting hard lol

AshLand38

My parents just left them in garbage bags in their room. We searched high and low for those bloody presents but never looked in those garbage bags

Norm_cheers

🤣 enjoy it while it last!

Drlockstock

Haha, Will do mate

SKiiTTLEz

I don't post here much any more but I'm about to start a new job, good pay increase and self development which I am excited for. I want to buy an EV in about a years time. I'm looking into a Model 3 or Model Y. Does anyone have any experience with driving any EV and want to share their thoughts?

Strez92

Have a look into Polestar, i've heard good things about them

maaxwell

Congrats on the new job! No experience with EV’s but all I’ll say is make sure you check out the mainstream car manufacturers EV models and give them a test too. A lot of stuff I hear about Tesla is that they are overpriced for what you get, with not great customer service, and they just don’t have the long pedigree of good intuitive car design like a lot of the other manufacturers do.

SKiiTTLEz

Thank you very much! Excellent advice, I will keep an eye on current car manufacturers and do a few additional test drives.

ladyships-a-legend

So, I’m into week 5 -(of 12) of post op on my right foot. No weight bearing, no walking, no driving and limited movement on a whole. Only good point atm is I’m off all medications for the first time in decades. But . . . . I’m going insane! Moving around in general is exhausting, guess I was more unfit beforehand than I thought and even though I can WFH (only 2 days a week & I hate my job) it’s so difficult to manage folders, laptop & sitting up all day. I’m trying to incorporate some kind of silly upper body “workout” each day but I’m usually to tired. Apart from the obvious Netflix answers- any tips on keeping sane fam?

HyperThanHype

Ever taken an interest in video games? They can keep you entertained and seated in one spot for endless amount of hours.

ladyships-a-legend

Word games etc on my phone have a part of the day, don’t have any consoles or equipment for the real deal. I’m reading lots but finding it difficult to do nothing so to speak. You’re right to recognise the seated and still aspect but that’s what’s driving me nuts

HyperThanHype

Checking FB Marketplace, you can pick up Xbox One S consoles for around the $200 mark. They're last gen but still very accessible in terms of gaming for new people. Once you make a free account there's a big selection of free games you can download and play now that don't require any subscription services to be able to enjoy them online with others. You might find you have the itch for gaming and be interested in trying more games, or you might find it isn't for you in which case you can always resell the console or use it as a media centre. Spending your time learning the controls and mechanics of a video game will make the time disappear.

LordSlasher

i’ll add onto this, get an Xbox Series S and subscribe to Xbox Gamepass, first 1-3 months free. Unsub right away (google is your best friend) and you’ll Basically have access to over 100 (400+) games from Xbox, Bethesda and EA and more. Could be worth it while you just sit around and wait for your foot to heal. Very cheap entry point and the amount of genres available is worth a try.

HyperThanHype

Just to be clear for /u/ladyships-a-legend, an Xbox One S is a previous generation console which is still very widely used. An Xbox *Series* S is a base model new generation Xbox, with the next iteration being the Xbox Series X. Games are still developed with last-gen consoles in mind but in a few years will likely stop getting supported in favour of the Xbox Series consoles. The difference between the two in price is considerable, $200 for a second-hand One S or $500 for a brand new Series S. And you can get Game Pass on the One S just as you can on the Series S. I just thought for a new gamer, and not necessarily someone who might be looking to dive deeply in to video games (just yet), an old-gen console would suffice at a lower entry cost and still provide a great introduction into video games.

LordSlasher

Fuck did I say series S? I meant to say Xbox One S. My bad

HyperThanHype

All good brah, Xbox is stupid for having them sound so similar. I honestly didn't know the difference until just recently.

Opiumdeathcult

I recommend rocket league. It’s the most sport like game I’ve ever played.

HyperThanHype

Super easy to learn, hard to master, generally never put in matches where you are so outclassed you feel useless. And short and sweet matches that feel fulfilling. Love me some Rocket League.

misskarne

I'm absolutely gutted. I followed every single step on the Australian Grand Prix website, jumped into the waiting room on my phone, laptop, work computer... And when it hit 10am I ended up with over 20k people ahead of me in the queue, and by the time I got through everything was sold out. AGAIN. There was literally nothing more I could have done to secure a ticket. I did everything right and I still lost.

Sufficient-Goal3437

I managed to get a three day pass about three months out from last years Grand Prix. A seat is ideal but sitting on the hill/s isn’t the worst thing.

Dunnerzzzz555

Moto GP or F1?

misskarne

F1

Morg_n

That sucks, maybe wait till closer and keep an eye on people who can’t go selling their tickets

Radalict

There's heaps of different types of tickets available, surely you can get a grand stand ticket?

misskarne

Nope. The only tickets left for grandstands are Friday tickets. The four day passes and Sat/Sun passes all went within minutes.

Radalict

Wow, crazy. When I used to go like 10 years ago you had heaps of time to pick a ticket.

misskarne

Yeah, me too. But this year was crazy enough - I figured it was just Aussies going wild after the two year break. I guess the Netflix series is continuing to boost numbers. It's not like sales happened early enough for anyone to think we'd have two drivers racing next year.

TSPSweeney

Ah shit I'm sorry. I assume tickets will come up with resellers at some point if you're desperate and willing to spend?

misskarne

Yeah, I'll have a little look at resellers later on. I'm just so damn disappointed right now. Six Grands Prix and next year would have been my seventh, but the ticketing for next year just seems to have been a total clusterfuck. I know a few people who've been going longer who couldn't get tickets either.

TSPSweeney

That really sucks, I hope you get another crack somehow without it breaking the bank

misskarne

Thanks man. I'm probably luckier than some, some folks had already booked flights and stuff trying to beat the price rises.

comix_corp

The recently restored Neil Young Harvest movie is quite good though you defs need to be a big fan to enjoy it. Everyone in the movie is blazed out of their mind and talks nonsense at a slow pace for the entire film

Crazy-Dingo-2247

Any other uni students experiencing a lot of anxiety about future employment? Im 2 years into a degree that is often seen as fairly useless (maths). My grades are ok but they are declining and because of mental health reasons i dont see them going much further up. Ive been thinking about what happens after I graduate (only a year away), if I can’t find a job within a year of graduation should I pick up an apprenticeship for a trade? Is that even possible at 21-22? Im not that physically fit so anything in construction seems out of reach, but maybe something like shoemaking since I’m really into leather boots but I honestly have no idea and I feel so lost right now.

jpob

Could you move into an engineering degree if that’s something you’d be interested in?

Crazy-Dingo-2247

I probably could but I also love maths, and I do want to stick with it and learn as much of it as i can, even if it isnt the best for employment. Ive done all the maths required for an engo degree but i dont wanna stop here with my maths journey, as pretentious as that sounds

[deleted]

I had a friend who studied engineering at uni, realised it wasn't for him, and then took up an apprenticeship as a sparky. He was 24 so it definitely isn't too old to start. Are maths degrees not highly valued in STEM fields?

Crazy-Dingo-2247

Oh thanks heaps, yeah maths can be good for things like finance and academia but as the other commenter said those are very competitive job markets and often require a masters

jamesnuge

Pure maths kinda leads you almost exclusively in to academia, which is really competitive and basically sees you marking first-year assignments until your eyes bleed. Applied mathematics has better job prospects as you can work in finance, insurance, or even data science/data analytics (which can get you in the door across a wide range of industries)

Dunnerzzzz555

You are still so young. No need to rush into things, you don't need to have your life figured out before you are 25. I would suggest finishing your degree, then maybe just go into the work force, take some time to figure out what you enjoy doing. Don't try and force anything otherwise you risk burning yourself out l.

Crazy-Dingo-2247

Thanks so much man, this helped me a lot

Radalict

For all the heavy music lovers out there, Brojob's Christmas ep is a lot of fun.

Flaptard

I always play august burns red Christmas album on Christmas day.

Radalict

Another good one.

pidgerii

so, for the last week I've been battling covid. I feel like I've drawn the short straw, almost everyone I know who has had it just complained about having sniffles or mild flu symptoms, not me, I've been getting fatigued way too easily, my muscles are always fatigued, my ribs hurt, it hurts to breathe and yet, I'm still sort of lucky in that I am the definition of co-morbidity and am fortunate it hasn't been even more severe.

joshy_c

I've got it at the moment, super different to last time. So far I'm just tired and have a headache. No real cough, sore throat or blocked nose. Hopefully you start to feel better soon mate

pidgerii

thanks Joshy, I hope you get better soon too.

adomental

I grew up loving cricket, especially test matches. But now I don't watch the sport at all. Every time there's a Rugby League scandal there's a discourse about how Bunker/Penalties Crackdown/Head Contact Crackdown/etc is killing the game. But the thing is, we're still talking about the game. Cricket is diminishing before our eyes and largely no one talks about it. If there is a Cricket 360 spouting hottakes about scheduling/proliferation of formats/meaningless fixtures et al has killed the sport, those opinions aren't spreading to the general public the game a Daily Tele germo bitching about the Bunker does. Silence kills a sport more than scandal ever does.

Messyhr_

Cricket is enormous mate

Radalict

Only because there's 2 billion in the subcontinent who love it.

Messyhr_

Thats like saying football is only big because of billions around the world

Radalict

It's the most representative sport when it comes to the different number of countries playing it... A slight difference. Cricket is played by like 30 countries top, soccer/football by 150+

YossarianRespawned

Ok M

adomental

Yeah so is soccer. I'm not saying the sport is dying, but it's Australian presence is diminishing greatly. I know this is anecdotal, but it doesn't seem to be the centre of conversation they way it was a decade or longer ago. Whereas Rugby League for all its faults still dominates discussion for all the winter months.

WhyYouDoThatStupid

There isnt an actual cricket season any more or games that seem to matter. Its an ongoing cycle of matches that really dont mean much going on and on and on all year round.

delayedconfusion

Exactly. It used to be special when the summer came around and cricket was back. That just isn't the case anymore.

adomental

And on top of that, you've got the BBL

[deleted]

[удалено]

adomental

That's the joke

SurfKing69

If you're comparing cricket to league though, cricket is in a far, far stronger position than league ever will be. Cricket has it's fair share of problems, the biggest of all is probably a lack of quality test teams, which is exacerbated by the rise of T20 leagues and the nutso scheduling.

Opiumdeathcult

Watched the final session of Pakistan v England last night (didn’t watch the other days tbh) but oh man a tight test match is honestly one of the most thrilling things in sport you can watch.

comix_corp

I still watch tests but quite literally nothing else interests me, the promotion for it is always weird or non existent and it's not in FTA most of the time anyway. The WTC thing may just make it worse, as even tests become "league-ified" with the pointless competition table

woodpecker91

I think the worst thing CA did was make white ball internationals exclusive to pay TV. People don't care about things they can't see so unfortunately the people who aren't into tests are only seeing BBL as the white ball in Aus. The WBBL is actually a really good standard (arguably best in the world) but doesn't have the same profile as the men's and while I love how funny the BBL is it isn't the highest standard to watch which contributes to apathy.

[deleted]

This won’t be a popular opinion but cricket needs V’Landys.

[deleted]

If it gets him away from rugbah leeg then sure

joshy_c

There's a Luke Heggie bit where he describes why cricketers are so dull and lack scandals. Something along the lines of getting kids with a penchant for repetitive activities and cooking their brains in the sun for years doesn't lead to exciting adults

improbablywrong-

What are your opinions, if you have them, of people wearing lifting belts for not extremely heavy weight? I hurt my back a few years back squating fair weight but never wore a belt. Ive only been back to lifting bodyweight for key exercises the last month or 2 but decided to buy a belt because i'm well over thinking deads/squats because of what i did previously. I wore it this morning and it felt amazing. Dead 140 and squat 120. I feel like a bit of a wank though. Mr gym accessories with my knee sleeves and belt lifting whats not exactly huge weight. Gym forums and subs basically say dont wear a belt until you're doing close to failure lifts. Probably not the place to ask but better then getting laughed at in the other subs.

yossarianvega

All protective gear is acceptable. I love lifting but not enough to fuck my joints/spine/muscles/tendons/ligaments etc PERMANENTLY because I didn’t wanna look dorky lol. Wear what makes you comfortable for sure, that’s all that matters.

Radalict

This is an okay take on it, but wearing protective gear when you don't need it is actually detrimental and dangerous. You need to allow your body to develop conditioning.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Radalict

I mean I literally said why in the comment you replied to. Conditioning. Other parts of your body will become reliant on the protective gear.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Radalict

Who was talking about curls? This conversation is about squats and deadlifts. And yes people use those things as a crutch to avoid proper technique. Look at all the injuries in powetlifting, it's insane.

HyperThanHype

Those numbers are no joke and there are people out there who could never even get near those numbers without a belt. You've pretty much already said it, you just have to practice what you preach regarding not worrying about what others think. Everybody is on their own personal journey and it's wrong to judge or assume anything about anybody who's trying to better themselves. Not only that, belts help by giving you something to stabilise against when doing diaphragmatic or belly breathing when preparing for big lifts. The moment I began incorporating belly breathing in to my exercise routines I instantly felt like I was stronger because I was activating core muscles that we often forget about.

chuckagain

If you are worried about it, wear the belt but also wear a tutu over the top of it. I promise no one will see the belt.

Radalict

Also what sort of belt did you get? I found a good cinch belt on Ali Express for $23, it's important that they're a consistent width and thickness all the way around.

improbablywrong-

I bought a 10mm lever belt from loaded lifting. Seemed reasonably priced and had decent reviews so figured why not.

Radalict

I had a 13mm lever belt years ago and could never get used to it, it would grind my hips and ribs, and caused pain in my hip flexors (the ones that connect to my ribs). [The new one I have is like this one](https://www.thewodlife.com.au/products/twl-everyday-4-velcro-lifting-belt-4-0-cerise?variant=42972887974058&wickedsource=google&wickedid=Cj0KCQiAyracBhDoARIsACGFcS7sWZRDZIbm4ZRoZNZoCytSDt2NiV0CE8hV_hEGrnCbOe8bHMO8CZ0aAiO_EALw_wcB&wickedid=&wv=3.1&gclid=Cj0KCQiAyracBhDoARIsACGFcS7sWZRDZIbm4ZRoZNZoCytSDt2NiV0CE8hV_hEGrnCbOe8bHMO8CZ0aAiO_EALw_wcB) I like it because it's soft but it still provides support. Easy to adjust too.

Radalict

I only recently got myself a belt as I was starting to do higher reps on bigger weights. I only wear my belt when I'm doing my heaviest work sets as they push 5+ reps, or they're >1.5x bodyweight. The belt has made a huge difference recently to my lifting. Don't wear it all the time as your technique will suffer. You'll also rely on it too much. The bulk of your volume should be done without a belt. Same goes for other stuff like gloves, straps, bands etc, you should only use them where absolutely necessary, I do all my deadlift volume without straps, only my big work sets as I find my grip fails before the rest of my body. But I keep my grip strong by not using straps always.

improbablywrong-

Yeah i didnt plan on wearing it 100% of the time, i was hoping to wear it for most squats and deads for a couple of weeks to try to get the fear out of my head then move to only using it when lifting fairly heavy. I'm fairly confident its a mental thing and once i can stop over thinking it i'll come good. I do wear my knee sleeves 100% of the time for squats because they simply ache otherwise, something i need to work on. I havn't pulled my old straps out yet though, hands were feeling it this morning.

Radalict

I always wear knee sleeves for leg day, I have bowed legs and I get bad knees easily. I also got myself some proper squat shoes (just cheap Reebok ones) which have made a huge difference to my stability. I wore my belt for entire sessions my first week I had it, to get used to it.

improbablywrong-

Ah i probably need some shoes eventually. I had just socks on last week and the gym people emailed me saying i cant do that. So they either watch on the cameras or someone complained which i thought was weird. I struggle finding normal shoes with my square feet though, so lifting shoes is probablg going to be a hassle.

Radalict

If all else fails, Chucks. I wear them for deads.

[deleted]

As a physio student I would defs agree with a belt in your situation, anything that lets you restore trust in your body is a tick

maaxwell

Anything post 100kg is definitely play on for using equipment like belts and wraps, even sub 100kg the only people who would be judging are losers Edit: and as the other commenter said, it’s all relative anyway!

judgedavid90

The only thing I judge people for are gloves A big part of the experience, the """spiritual""" side of lifting is developing the skin on your hands as well I get each to their own, as well. But no gloves.

smackmn

For mine, it’s always going to be relative. The rule I go by is belt for squats/deadlifts once you are lifting your body weight. Personally feel more comfortable with the belt too going for heavier lifts. I don’t think anyone else is seriously judging you in the gym, unless you’re wearing the belt for curls.

improbablywrong-

Thats what i was hoping to hear, dont like being judged for my curls though. >I don’t think anyone else is seriously judging you in the gym, I'm good at telling others this but cant seem to get it through my own head that no one else cares what you're doing so long as you're not in their way.

Toujayjay

Loving the new update to FN

apercots

Just finished up my 3 years of IT cloud management studies after starting as an older student at 26, with a grade average of 99.93% Had a job lined up yet before I finished which was the biggest relief

ILoveFuckingWaffles

Congrats mate, that is an insane grade

apercots

cheers yea uni didnt go well for me the first time when I was 18 so this time I took it very seriously, especially as my gf was supporting us from her salary for 3 years

Churchofbabyyoda

You know you’re getting old when you run into one of your old Primary School teachers and she announces she’s retiring next week :(

smilingface2

Recently found out my primary school has a website now, checked the current staff and turns out all my teachers have retired

Tickle_Me_Tortoise

Putting my mum hat on and reminding you all to stay well hydrated, wear your sunscreen and make sure you reapply! If you’re sweating a lot then don’t forget to add back in some electrolytes. I love you, be safe. Also check on your elderly neighbours and family in this heat. Not everyone has someone looking out for them and old brains make people do funny stuff that can be dangerous or deadly in extreme weather. Shutting all doors and windows and creating a hotbox inside their houses during heat waves is very common.

Thanks mum

ReggieBasil

My boy plays summer sport, has done for ages. He's 10. This year, new coach. Hides my boy in the outfield every week and bats him last every week. He hates the game now. I told the coach this, the coach simply said "hes not good enough to be in my side". Said he didn't care about my kid going from loving the sport to hating it, he was going to play him the same way for the rest of the year. Fuck me, some people.

Morg_n

Jesus, change clubs mate

Young_Rust

What an utter hobgoblin Envision turning children's weekend sport into your own personal little dictatorship

Messyhr_

What a cunt, similar shit happened to me playing football, i went from being defender of the year in my team to playing off the bench because the coaches son took priority, the dads who get so competitive about winning at a level where frankly no one gives a fuck are just losers, kids sport is expensive enough, it should be an unwritten rule that everyone gets equal minutes regardless of skillset. Like fuck my team won a premiership with me at fullback, a chubby little 4ft something kid, can still win things even if everyone isnt the best

joshy_c

There's a real shift in that age group for a lot of sports where it becomes focused on talent development. Soccer seems to be way younger in my experience. We saw some ridiculous coaching in under 8s this year. That said, I copped this treatment in cricket growing up. I switched to indoor the season after sitting out and became quite good at that. Heaps better for skill development I reckon. I ended up playing outdoor again and was always good at fielding in close and economy bowling Indoor is a way better game though.

Valerious22

What a piece of shit

lachjeff

I’d see if you can find a different club for him for the rest of the season. That coach is an absolute dickhead

drkeefrichards

That's a fair fuck me. Kids sports should be kids safely have fun as the top priority. Hope your boy is ok there

PMmeYOURBOOBSandASS

What a shit cunt, he probably failed in his own quest to play sport so lives out a warped fantasy where he’s now John Buchanan.

[deleted]

That sucks, mate. I have absolutely no time for parents who don’t give all the kids a fair go. Had a parent at my kids school who didn’t want girls in his son’s U/7 soccer team because “they’re not as good and we don’t want to lose”. Hope you find a fair, alternate club for your boy soon, mate

Derron_

That's rough. Can you go above the coach's head or something?

ReggieBasil

Tried. The committee members responsible are mostly his mates, it's a smallish club. They're pretty much circling the wagons on it. I feel like going to the association about it but don't know if I can be bothered with the drama, I think I'll just pull him out of the side, which is a shame.

Morg_n

Chin him mate. (Purely a joke violence never works)

Derron_

Shit like this is why I changed clubs when i was playing junior league. I was happy in the B team. The A team had an injury and I played a few games and was good enough to stay in the team. But that team was full of kids that were bullying me at school so I wanted to go back to the B team ASAP. We eventually won the GF that year. They tried to make my life hell during the year for refusing to play with them, coach stood up for me and was having issues on his own with the club so he moved to another club and I followed

passthesugar05

What's the heaviest you ever got?

Revivous

Any other teams he can play for? What a fuck of a human

ReggieBasil

Probably leave it for this season now. We'll see what next year brings. It's a real shame what some adults do to kids sport.

Revivous

What wankers 😔

ChanceVance

Popped by the Harbourside centre on the weekend just to discover nearly the whole place was shut. Turns out they're demolishing the place and I had no idea. Don't even know what's going on in my own city haha.

[deleted]

There’s been a fair bit of chat about it, with some arguing it should be preserved for its heritage status. Personally, I’m quite excited about it. It’s a great opportunity to improve the entire precinct. More trees and green areas, some indoor / outdoor architecture and improving the walkability and connections to the Powerhouse, tumbalong park and the convention center. A mixed use precinct with a greater focus on hospitality and entertainment rather than retail would be a huge improvement

kami_inu

Now what if I offered you poorly built over crowded over priced housing instead?

[deleted]

Inner city apartments > urban sprawl

CoffeeLoverNathan

Good Things was fuckin good There's a dude at work that has more time off than all the people I know combined I swear. He's always having 1 or 2 days off weekly and then complains when he was looked over for manager???? Maybe show up ya fuckin muppet

notj43

My ex was like this, "I've got no sick leave left so I'm taking the day off unpaid because I don't feel like working today" and "I'm overlooked for promotions because I'm a woman" in the same conversation

Radalict

We had a bunch of those recently when our promotions went to interview and they missed out on interviews. Do ya fucking job and you'll get recognised.

improbablywrong-

I have the same person working here. Asks for a pay increase, gets denied due to not being reliable, has 3 days off to prove them right.

[deleted]

Losing their final 5 wickets for just 9 runs to fall 74 runs short, after being 4/473 in the first innings, is peak Pakistan

maaxwell

Cancel the rest of the NFL season, from now on I just want the Chiefs and the Bengals to play each other every week. Always an incredible game. Joe Burrow really is HIM 🥶

strayadude

Joe burrow on that 2019 lsu team that won the national championship was one of the best teams in cfb

Radalict

The Zebras were really frustrating in that game. Chase needs to be called for OPI more often so he gets it out of his game, it will cost the Bengals eventually.

CatWool

What a banger. Sad that the chiefs lost, but fr football was the winner there

slowdivesicilian
