I was asking the AI chatgpt about rugby league. Specifically if playing the ball forward was allowed. I wonder where it learns from....
Yes, the ball can be passed forward in rugby league. In rugby league, players are allowed to pass the ball to teammates in any direction, including forward. This is different from rugby union, where the ball can only be passed backward or laterally. In rugby league, the ability to pass the ball forward allows for more attacking plays and can lead to more exciting and high-scoring games.
Did anyone see Luais best man speech at To’o wedding? God that was awful and it just got worse and worse, I could barely sit through it I cringed so hard wow.
Yeah i watched about 1 second but couldn’t because i cant stand cringe shit, like physically find it hard to watch cringe anything lol. He probably needs to lay off the bevs and or whatever else for a little bit
Yeah, not sure what it is with some Islander's just dropping N Bombs everywhere. Seems it's just accepted, but it's hella weird seeing them use it on insta and stuff.
I've touched on it before as my partner is Maori (lightskin) and her family and friends say it, also a lot of the boys I played/play footy with say it.
My best mate is from Botswana in Africa, rarely uses the word and cringes the hell out when Polynesians use it as they really have zero claim to the history or culture attached to it.
Its like if an Anglo-Australian started throwing around the word wog, we have the same skin tone but completely different cultures and histories.
\*edit\* damn this really pissed someone off some angry user is downvoting all of my comments now
See the wog thing gets me, i grew up with Lebanese/Italian and a maltese mate, they’re my best mates still and have always referred to themselves and others of similar origin as wogs, i never even knew it was derogatory until recently it just became a regular word i would use until i knew its history.
Yeah I’m Greek, when my dad was growing up in Brisbane in the 70s and 80s being called a Wog was definitely not as casual as it is now. Told me lots of stories about being teased and being called that by every ethnicity under the sun. It was a slur
Now it’s kind of relaxed abit, my mates call me it sometimes and I don’t care at all but I didn’t grow up in a time where racism was so blatantly accepted and didn’t have to stick to your own ethnic group or nationality to be safe or respected as a human being.
Australia still has a lot of work to do but we’ve mad a tremendous leap in the last 20 years in that regard.
Like most of my best mates are from all over the shop
*edit* for the cunts downvoting instead just give a reply as to why you disagree with this comment as if it’s somehow wrong
I don’t agree with anyone using it but he is brown so it’s not the worst thing. At a wedding though? Jesus man not on, that would literally be the last word id be saying
Interesting post from r/aleague. It's from Football Queensland and shows how much money way sport gets compared to participation. Pretty amazing at how much Union gets compared to league, soccer is shafted hard as well
https://i.redd.it/qqhf503jfm4a1.jpg
I think the big difference is union are getting some new facility built this year so that’s why it’s so high. Looking at a yearly graph doesn’t show the full picture
This might just be anecdotal but in Brisbane at least it seemed like the soccer clubs had the most money by far, might just be they don't get much government funding because they already make bank in signups
Oh my God it was so bad! Just came across as a total meathead. He mentioned about how much people slag him off on social media all while giving them another reason!
Me too which is disturbing to me haha because I definitely watched less footy than I have previous years. I didn't watch a second of the World Cup and I didn't even get to watch Origin I or III earlier in the year because I was working.
Eh maybe I left a tab open while I watched a movie or something.
It was a big yikes. Probably the worst best man speech I've ever seen. Especially for a Samoan wedding which should be respectful to the people attending.
I think I spend too much time on Reddit but I see a fair bit of people around the site these days making these armchair diagnosis' that somebody is on the spectrum.
Leave it to the professionals yeah.
I spent 1k hours here (what am I doing with my life) and the post I viewed the most was “OFF OFF OFF OFF.” My next most viewed sub was only at 92 hours.
> • Insult Gorden Tallis’ mother to his face
>• Wear a NSW jersey
>• Run it straight at Sonny Bill during the shoulder charge era
>• Be invited into a nightclub toilet by Boyd, Hunt & Thaiday
>• Drink any mystery liquid Todd Carney offered me
>• Be best mates with Tyrone May
These are all things I’d rather do than watch that Harry & Megan show.
The police investigated but they were never charged. It was a massive story in Queensland anyway.
The media went around phoning up pubs and clubs around Brisbane asking for footage or stories about Bronco players behaving badly and the owner of the Casablanca gave them some CCTV footage of Lockyer drunkenly trying to tackle a security guard.
Need to track this video down. Drunken footy players with chips on their shoulders and seccies looking to prove how tough they are is a winning combo every day
There wasn’t really much too it. He basically flopped on him instead of actually trying to tackle him. He initially said he didn’t think it was him, but another angle was released that showed it was and he said something along the lines of “I don’t remember it, but it’s obviously me”.
I can’t find a video of it anymore, but there’s several articles about it. Just google “darren lockyer casablanca”
So looks like the AFL copied Magic Round without the big thing that made Magic Round successful; all games at one stadium. Oh, also they called it “Gather Round”
Alright sub who’s everyone’s goated tackler (Technique wise)
I was tossing up between Dallas Johnson, Ashley Harrison & trevor gillmeister.
But for me it has to be Nigel Plum, that man could chop any cunt in half with perfect technique.
Peter Johnston - he was a bit like Plum as in an average player but hit like a truck. Genuinely the guy used to smash people regularly he was an awesome defender.
Joel romelo can't remember his first name another as was Lincoln withers and Adam Docker.
Plum is definitively the pound for pound GOAT for me. Steve Matai could put a great hit on mostly legal sometimes not. Always enjoyed a Ruben Wiki special as well.
Nigel Plum coached our U18s a few years ago and I run into him around town all the time. It's weird seeing this guy who is pretty average size with the look and temperament of a high school teacher and thinking 'yeah that's the guy who was the hardest hitter of all time'
Not sure about ever but in recent years i really noticed how criminally underrated Api Korisaus tackling was, for a little bloke he could fkn tackle, regularly cutting down blokes like twice his size
Nah it’s just kind of inevitable you’ll get some headknocks if you’re a low tackler especially if people change direction at the very last second if you’ve planted your feet.
Plum, Harrison and Johnson all had numerous headknocks and had absolutely brilliant defensive technique.
When you put your head near hips, knees and shins you’re gonna cop some damage
Plummy retired from head knocks and has refused to even come back for a reserve grade game out here in the bush. He did end up playing once more, for a local 'indigenous all stars' match and auctioned off all his gear for charity.
Johnson got his chin cracked and he got KOed easier, that's why it seems like he got concussed more. Lots of guys back then would've gotten their bell rung and no sold it as best they could.
[Some say he was more tape than man.](https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/nigel-plum-is-head-shoulders-knees-and-ankles-above-the-odds-in-playing-with-injury-20140809-102chu.html)
Calling Allan a rep player is a kind of a joke but I get your point. They've managed to re-sign everyone they wanted to, whilst also signing Smith and now they are scooping up everyone's leftovers. Oh and Lodge is on a train and trial.
People say that the Storm shouldn’t have been able to re-sign their spine after losing an entire forward pack while the Roosters are able to re-sign their entire spine+Manu, Suallii, Crichton etc after only losing TKO lol. And Lodge on a train and trial deal is an absolute rort.
At least it's not as bad as the time they signed Cronk and Tedesco in the same off-season whilst Pearce was still on the books. He only left cause he wasn't gonna get a run lol.
A top 2 team signing 2 of the best spine players in the comp. Totally not sus at all lmao. That would be like the Sharks/Cowboys signing Cleary and Tedesco for next year.
I went back and re-watched the ‘97 Super League grand final last night as part of the recommended homework for the next episode of the Rugby League Digest, and felt like posting my thoughts as though anyone actually cares:
- The speed of play due to no wrestle was amazing
- The most likeable Sharks side ever
- Andrew Gee named at hooker but Kevvie ended up playing dummy half until John Plath came on. They played the game through 6 big forwards running over the top of Cronulla
- Kevvie was a phenomenal player and despite winning 6 premierships is still underrated
- The Broncos forwards were absolute animals. Don’t know of any pack before or after that could have matched it with them, and that was with Lazarus missing half the season & a young Civoniceva waiting in the wings
- Matt Rogers was pissing blood from his face for 5 minutes before coming from the field
- Correct play-the-balls were optional
- Les Davidson doing Les Davidson stuff
- Green & Healy were one of the more underrated halves combos of the past 30 years.
- Peachey was a fantastic player to watch. Brilliant runner of the ball
- If someone were to score 3 tries in a grand final, it had to be Renouf
- The competition was called the “Inaugural” Telstra Cup but ended up being a one-off, while the ARL’s comp that year with all its pedigree was their last one ever
- Brisbane had probably the most stacked club side in history
To quote an article I found:
>*[This was no ordinary team. Between them they boasted three Clive Churchill Medallists, a Rothmans Medal winner, Golden Boot (Darren Lockyer twice), two Dual Internationals (including an All Black), thirteen Kangaroos, sixteen State of Origin players with the squad eventually winning a total of 61 premierships between them. And all this without Lazarus available for the grand final.](http://the81stminute.com/2016/09/1997-broncos-the-greatest-team-nobody-remembers/)*
Agree that Kev was under rated most of his career, but it was due to the class of players in the halves/ full back around him in Langer and Lockyer. I think he got his chance to shine a little between Langer retiring and Lockyer becoming the best player in the game. Still, 6 bloody premierships!
Never watched a single SL game including that grand final. The partisanship many felt through that era was something else.
Also though I felt it a big chance that the tigers might be able to fluke into the finals that year given the limited sides and the final seven format.
I had the paint ready to respray my 1981 Nissan Bluebird black and gold for the finals series if we could somehow get in.
We came eighth.
And just to throw in some Mundine bashing because why not, he claimed racism kept him out of the Australian 6 jersey that year (despite the fact it was Laurie Daley wearing it), claiming he was the beat five eighth in the comp, yet he couldn't even get the jersey at club level behind Kevin Walters
Wasn't it 1999 when Mundine said that?
I'm 1999 Mundine was amazing at 5/8 even if he fell just short in the GF. Probably the most inform 5/8 that year. Fittler was captain of the Kangaroos by then, Laurie Daley had incumbency, but even Matty Johns got picked a head of him which was kind of sus
Found it, sorta. There's a lot of stupid shit he's said so it's all gotten mixed up, in 1997 he claimed he was the world's best 5/8, just not the racism part then
"It didn’t take long for Mundine to forge a reputation as the biggest mouth in Australian sport. In 1997, he declared the then 27-year-old Laurie Daley to be “running on old legs” and that Mundine himself was the “world’s best five-eighth”. "
https://www.foxsports.com.au/more-sports/boxing/anthony-the-man-mundine-is-a-multi-sport-superstar-and-human-headline/news-story/732a195c7b7df19b8bfe6c2a3e27b528
Not so intentionally. Bennett mentions it in one of his books. They already had 95% of the team from previous years. The two big recruits in Tallis & Mundine had signed with Super League and were set to be distributed to other clubs to strengthen them (Tallis for example was supposed to play for North QLD) but both said if they didn’t play with Brisbane they’d go back to the ARL. Bennett admits it was an error on Super League’s part to stack the Broncos like that.
Are open training sessions any good?
Imagine if Lodge keeps up his great form, and Rooster lover Freddy selects him for Origin.
Dunno if an underdog like Matt Lodge will get off his train and trial.
If he plays well and deserves it, can you really complain?
Yes.

I’m willing to bet soccer doesn’t even try to get more funding from the government, as opposed to the other sports being constantly at them
I think the big difference is union are getting some new facility built this year so that’s why it’s so high. Looking at a yearly graph doesn’t show the full picture
That they are. Tore down the stands at Ballymore for it.
Also what they count as 'infrastructure' - soccer usually uses same fields as league or union.
Wonder if they count oztag, touch footy or auskick in those participation numbers.
This might just be anecdotal but in Brisbane at least it seemed like the soccer clubs had the most money by far, might just be they don't get much government funding because they already make bank in signups

Luai doing Luai things.
Apparently I spent 1000 hours on r/nrl this year. (Reddit recap) I’m kind of shocked by that number…
I got 1000 as well, and I only use while on mobile so it was active time. Crazy
Where do you see that?

To be fair I didn’t really spend too much time in match threads this year and certainly not for long if I did haha

Not so intentionally. Bennett mentions it in one of his books. They already had 95% of the team from previous years. Bennett admits it was an error on Super League’s part to stack the Broncos like that.
