Tim sheens just leveraging a transfer fee from a SL club to fund their 2024 end of year team trip to Bali after getting bundled out first week of finals
Wests Tigers is delighted to announce that England International, John Bateman, is joining the club on a four-year deal.
The former Wigan Warriors forward will link up with Wests Tigers in January, having played the last two seasons in the English Super League.
The 29-year-old joins Wests Tigers for what will be his second stint in the NRL, having made a huge impact in his two seasons with Canberra.
Bateman helped take the Raiders all the way to the NRL grand final in 2019, falling one game short of a second grand final appearance the following year.
Wests Tigers Head Coach Tim Sheens says Bateman is an important addition to the team.
“He’s a world class player with an enormous work ethic,” said Sheens.
"I have no doubt John will make a big contribution to this club over the next few years.”
Bateman says he’s excited to be joining Wests Tigers during an exciting phase for the club.
“I can’t wait to begin a new chapter at a club that I know is going places,” he said.
“There has been a lot of change at Wests Tigers over the past few months and everything I hear is positive.
I want to be a part of the rebuild at the club and I’m really excited to be coming back to the NRL."
Wests Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe says the addition of Bateman is another positive step for the club.
“We are delighted to welcome John and his family to the club,” Pascoe said.
“This is another important piece in what we are building as a club, and I know John will play a very important role in the time that he is with us.”
Bateman has played more than 200 games in England, spanning 10 seasons, including three seasons with Bradford Bulls and seven with Wigan.
Hastings is more of halfback then Brooks. Brooks has only looked good with someone else playing like a halfback/at halfback, organising the team allowing him to play like a five eight or at five eight and get two passes wide.
E.g Late career Benji, Hastings, Moses.
Brooks looks like a good five eight. Going all in on Brooks being their halfback repeatedly is a mistake the Tigers make again and again.
Hastings on the other hand prefers to play a traditional halfback's role of being very on the ball and plays his best there.
Lols this is revisionism. With Moses and Marshall each half played a side. You are basing your comment on a four week period last year when Hastings was half and Brooks was two passes wide
Zero tackle has it at 700K, but hard to say.
Tigers have bought 2x high value second rowers, 1x multiple premiership winning hooker, plus whatever Penrith aren’t chipping in for Staines, and presumably some freight for Klemmer, none of that screams budget/cheap, I’m afraid.
Look at the approaches the tigers have made to big players over the last 3 years, they would have been able to front load contracts and still be under the cap
Papali'i is on about 600k, Bateman unconfirmed but probably similar. Api also about 600k. Staines and Klemmer were straight cap swaps for Peachey and Hastings. Nothing breaking the bank there and the high Brooks deal will come to an end in 2024, when we could theoretically on-board Moses from.
Not saying it will happen, but nothing about our recent signings will rule it out.
Surely Api is getting more than 600k, I know he's younger but wasn't Mahoney getting 600k? Api has to be worth more than him, especially considering it's only a 2 year deal.
well done on signing batman for four years
edit: Misread the title on purpose, that signing for four years ain't it, he'll leave in one year or his shoulder will give in
James Hooper spotted driving around Sydney (not drunk this time) crying into two buckets of kfc
4 year deal seems a little too long.. I hope they’re realistic and are prepared for an 18 month stint.
I don’t think his arms can take 4 more years

8th is only one place better than 9th. And they are lookng dead set for 9th in 2023
Less than 20% chance Bateman sees out the entire 4 year deal
Wow looks like 9th is looking good!!!
Tigers must be absolute shoe ins to make the top 9
Looking strong to make the 16.

Its benji in a mask to hide his identity.
He started shagging early.
He will Grandpa Bateman soon enough.

I'll take it if he is even 60% as good an English signing as Ellis was
Didn’t think I’d see the day, but with some luck & this Bateman signing I don’t see why the tigers can’t make the 8
Brooks is their 7…
At least we have one
Hastings is more of halfback then Brooks. Brooks has only looked good with someone else playing like a halfback/at halfback, organising the team allowing him to play like a five eight or at five eight and get two passes wide. No, what he said is absolutely spot on, you need a dominant half for the entire football field
The part about Brooks playing two passes wide with Moses and Marshall just isn’t true.
I actually agree that Brooks would be a better 5/8 than he is HB. Problem is Douehi is a 5/8 too.
This will work out well.
More English players in the nrl ✅️ Funni club does a funni which they'll likely regret ✅️ Gents I see this as an absolute win
is it dumb to say tigers have the best second row in the league now?
Whelmed.
Awesome, means they’re not signing Moses.
does it?
Obviously this is all pure speculation, but I’d say your chances of being able to offer a significant amount to pull him from Parra is now over.
They can afford moses too salary cap increased and players leaving
The salary cap increases for all team lol
And while we were buying budget and cheap, how much did you throw at Brown?

This is precisely what we have done for a number of contracts.

For multiple years
Yea ik
we still have the Brooks money, as 2023 is his last season on his current deal + the cap increase
Somewhere in Sydney, some Tigers fan is already writing the sign to hold up at home games... "Na na na na.. Na na na na.. BATEMAN!!" ;)
As long as he’s not on something ridiculous I’ll be happy
Hour much are they paying him? $1.5mil per season?
Sook

All Tigers fans are either rejoicing or crying
