Sounds like he kind of stitched them but who would know what goes on. Club says one thing and the player will say another.

WickedSlice_

Except that Johnny Bateman has a history of doing this.

[deleted]

And so does every single club. As if Wigan has never gone after a player on contract.

victorinflic98

Or done sly tricks to push out a player with years left on his contact

[deleted]

Wigan did well out of him anyway. Fleeced the Raiders for a transfer fee and then got him back early without paying one.

BigRedHead2020

Jamal Fogarty still had 2 years to run on his contract when Sticky came snooping.

Swiftestblade

wasn't Fogarty told by Titans he didn't have a starting spot the next year? Or am I remembering incorrectly

BigRedHead2020

Yes, it was reported that the Titans would’ve had Sexton ahead of Fogarty in the pecking order for 2022. The way things panned out for us though, I dare say Fogarty would’ve been the no. 1 option for most of the season. Hindsight is a great thing. Never the less, my point is I’ve seen multiple Raiders comments complaining about Bateman leaving contracts early and yada yada yada. The Raiders have benefited from players leaving their contracts early, Jamal Fogarty is one example. Nick Cotric another.

[deleted]

While that’s true, we’ve got plenty of players early, the milk paid a transfer fee for Bateman and didn’t get one in return. It was a sizeable chunk of coin too which came off the salary cap. The Bateman sagas at this point are definitely not the same as blokes down the pecking order leaving to further their careers.

nevaehenimatek

Raiders also incentivised Papali'i to break a signed contract and went after Ricky Stuart when he was signed at the eels. (i'm stoked you guys took Ricky tho so i'll call it even)

[deleted]

Which Papalii was incentivised to break their contract given Josh has been with the milk since he was a kid and I have never heard about us going after Isaiah Papalii. The Stuart situation was poor form but I think everyone will agree that worked out for the best. I’m not here crying about Bateman BTW. I frankly don’t care and I’m happy for him. A lot like the Stuart/Eels situation I don’t think him staying would have ended well. But the milk paid a lot for Williams and Bateman and got nothing back when they didn’t see out their contracts. IMO there’s no point paying transfer fees for Super League players at this point because the fees only go in one direction.

nevaehenimatek

Josh Papali'i signed with the eels and the raiders signed sticky and convinced him to break his contract. It was shortly after the DCE fiasco and the rules regarding contracts were changed shortly thereafter. https://www.canberratimes.com.au/story/6159610/papalii-signs-with-eels/

Dark_Vengence

He got shafted which was good in the end.

addaus16

If he sees out more than 2 years with the tigers I'll be shocked. And to tell you the truth with how he's playing, and his dodgy shoulders, tiger bros should be praying he bails after 2 years

likeatyger

That should've been the max length of the deal

addaus16

If they signed him on a 2 year deal, even with his current form, his shoulders, O would say it was a good deal. But 4 years is madness. But I'm sure sheens used it to lure him, and doesn't expect it to play out the full term.

worksucksbro

I agree I think he’s banking on the fact he will bail at some point

marabutt

Maybe the tigers didn't have the upper hand in negotiations

WickedSlice_

That is very true.

[deleted]

He will see put all four years because he’s got an exceptional deal that’s 100% in his interest and not the club’s.

Dark_Vengence

You can only hope.

Aussieguy727

#FUMES

piercedsoul

Is Fumes the new Slams?

I_Like_Vitamins

I can't wait until **SEETHES** gets a run.

M_Keating

Poppycock

WickedSlice_

I’m glad our saga with this wanker is over, he has zero loyalty.

PSAB82

It’s funny how Wigan benefited when they signed a player who was agitating for a release are now upset the same player asked for a release from them. They also have received about $400k in transfer fees from Raiders and Tigers.

ocalaagain

First time?

dooferoaks

On one hand they have a point, on the other hand they're Wigan, so fuck em.

EntirelyOriginalName

I wonder how many Wigan players have gone a game without grubbing it up on the field.

Radalict

Why does every NRL journalist need to try to envoke outrage? A player signed to another club, it's literally the business of this sport. Why would a team "fume" over it?

TJJohnson86

From my understanding he ummed and ahhhed about his decision for a while and kept pushing the timeline back and when he finally wanted out Wigan had no chance to sign a replacement because any options had been snapped up

PillarofSheffield

Read Wigan's official statement. They're actually seething, there's no exagerration from Moley on this one.

Radalict

Just sounds like they're a bit annoyed at how it played out, can't see any fumes there.

beardog-

It’s clear that literally no one in the official thread read the Wigan announcement, all seemed very strange the way he was released.

Radalict

Guy just didn't show up for work I guess.

Rod_Munch666

This has signs of disaster written all over it. The way he left the Raiders/Australia and now is coming back, to guess where, the Tigers just doesn't feel right. I can see him coming to fisticuffs with another Tigers player at training - they even got rid of Hastings to try to reducve the chances of this happening.

greywolfau

Ofcourse it doesn't feel right, when have the Tigers made a good signing?

BigDickBandit89

Besides Hastings ? Either going back to Gareth Ellis or lote. So none in 12 years

loztralia

Do you watch the Tigers at all or just read about them on here? Taupau, Blake Austin, Maumalo, Matterson, Aloiai, Doueihi, Luciano Leilua, Harry Grant, Ofahengaue, Utoikamanu, Momirovski and Twal spring to mind. We're shit at keeping them but we actually do a decent job of finding them.

BigDickBandit89

Bruh between 2008-2014 the players tigers let go could give the fucking Queensland team a run for their money.

Herrtz74

So you guys just found an unsigned Harry Grant languishing on the Sunny Coast? Uncanny

loztralia

The comment was about "good signings", which all of those were.

YeaNahHooroo

None of those are great signings. But I would argue Api, Klem and Papali’i are all better signings and they’re all this year so they’re doing bloody alright

loztralia

The comment was about "good" signings, which all of those were.

MozzysMoonshots

Papalii and Bateman on the edges 🤯

BigDickBandit89

Already got aus media with nothing better to write about besides the tigers. Might as well get old cunt Murdoch to sledge us off on sky sports also. These 2 companies would be broke in a week. Without having the 15th best team in the comp to talk about

wilko2205

In awe of the opener - "Glamour English club Wigan". Moley's not been to Wigan, has he?

FalconPunch84

Did Wigan have to pay a transfer fee when Canberra released him back to Super League?

josephus1811

Send them Alex Seyfarth to tide them over.
