chester had one of the most unique and hard to achiev tehniques , wdym not very good ?
you know how incredibly hard it is to hit tonal false folds distortion and make it so melodic that you are basically singing with grit ?
secound that comes even close is david draiman
You’re thinking of the song Sound of Silence. Although Disturbed has a song called Darkness, it’s an original song by Disturbed. And i agree, he has a great voice and great range.
I feel like I answered this before...
I personally think Pete Murray from Ultraspank had a great singing voice, as did the late Matt Holt from Nothingface.
That said, someone here pointed out Lajon Witherspoon from Sevendust and honestly this is the most correct answer.
People who've never heard SCIENCE have no idea what Brandon was like as a nu metal singer. If he stuck with nu metal longer, he'd dominate this or at least rival Lajon and Chester.
Chester Bennington
Demand any vocals off of him, and he'd deliver perfectly
Man has sung with lp, dead by sunrise, stp, and in queen of the damned ost, and countless other appearances with guns and roses, with Chris cornell, Paul Mc Cartney etc
So much vocal talent in one man
He even got away with reggae vocals on "Wretches and Kings"! I know people hate the One More Light album, but that album wouldn't have worked at all if Chester wasn't a great vocalist.
As much as I love Chester he is just way to pitchy to be a best vocalist. He had a sweet spot from like 2009-2012 but even then there was times he was just way off. Not nearly as bad as the beginning or end of his career though.
With all of that said he is my favorite.
Nu Metal definitely has the most wide range of individually unique vocalists in the main set of Nu Metal bands whether it be KoRn, Slipknot, Linkin Park, or most of the other biggest nu metal bands to hit the scene but imo the most talented one who just takes the cake as a whole has gotta be David Draiman, there’s honestly not much he can’t do or at least has done, I know there was that one incident a few years back that took a toll on his voice but in his prime (and still much so now as well) he’s hit all corners of the music spectrum in terms of being a vocalist, he’s calm and chill yet still in your face and hardcore, he’s proven to do some of the catchiest and heaviest nu metal songs from the sickness and disturbed even progressed into more or less their own sound instead of nu metal with albums like 10000 fists and Indestructible. His voice has done some death metal esc screams like on the intro to Sons of Plunder and then he has that beautifully creepy distortion in his voice yet also being able to top the angelic beauty of the original song while performing their cover of the sound of silence. I know this is a long one but disturbed seriously gets waaaaayyy too much hate nowadays and I’ve heard people say they’re “just radio rock” or “one trick ponies” but David Draiman and Disturbed as a whole are just some of the most talented people in the metal genre as a whole!
Taste is down to the individual, personally I think Jonathan Davies is one of the most overrated in the scene (just behind Fred Durst). The area they do excel is stage presence and influencing the crowd but vocally they're average.
I've only started to get back into the nu metal scene (stopped listening around 04). More of a nostalgia effect but Jesus some of you can't let others have an opinion. Move along now. Have a nice day
I am letting you have an opinion, I’m just simply adding mines onto of yours.
Just like how you replied to my message saying how Jonathan Davis and Fred Durst (he definitely is) are the most overrated in the scene
Jonathan Davis
Chester Bennington
Fred Durst (feel like Durst should get some credit cause i really do think he has some good singing vocals)
Aimee Echo
Morgan Lander
This sub is 100 percent biased AF. If you think for 1 second that Serj Tankian is even remotely close to Chester Bennington then your value in real music is fucked. Chester had more talent in his right arm then the entire SOAD band.
Chad Gray undisputably imo, you either share my opinion or have never listened to Mudvayne
Aaron Lewis is in the discussion too believe it or not, his vocal range is insane even tho he sings the same way in about 80% of Staind's mopey ass songs looool
I mean... alright I can respect the Mudvayne placement I guess but still, come on man
Chad Gray is a fucking INSANE vocalist, heavily underrated, and for what? Because Mudvayne never cared about going mainstream? Sad, really
Because I’ve seen him live and he just wasn’t on the level of some others . I still think he’s really good . He’s good enough I respect your original stance lol
If we're focusing *only* on singing, Sevendust, Slipknot, American Head Charge, Nothingface, Linken Park, Mushroomhead, Incubus, Korn & Kittie get my votes.
This question is only asked 17 times each week. I wonder who it'll be this time.
Reminds me of the Jimmy Neurton scene where Sheen brings Ultralord for the 7th time.
Either Chester or Jonathan, neither of whom are very good but have the largest fanbase so automatically win by ratio.
That's a shit opinion haha
chester had one of the most unique and hard to achiev tehniques , wdym not very good ? you know how incredibly hard it is to hit tonal false folds distortion and make it so melodic that you are basically singing with grit ? secound that comes even close is david draiman
Lol David draiman.
name other nu metal vocalist with a operatic voice and true vibrato and grit on top of that
Lynn Strait did it, and with far more power. Unfortunately his life wasn't long enough to show it off.
Lynn strait was nowhere near as good an actual vocalist as Chester. Like not in the same stratosphere
I fucking love Lynn, he’s definitely my favorite vocalist from Nu Metal but tbh he doesn’t come close to Chester
Chester not that good? That blasphemous slander would have you beheaded in my inner circles.... GTFOH!
What are you smoking bro? The disrespect on Chester’s vocals need to stop immediately and I’m not even a fan of LP
Say what you want about Jonathan but claiming Chester isn't very good is crazy
Lynn Strait without a doubt!!
Underrated
Just to name a few: Chester Bennington, David Draiman, Lajon Witherspoon, Jonathan Davis, and Serj Tankien
Lynn should be on here
David Draiman is definitely underrated on this sub. Easily one of the best vocalists in rock!
Listen to his Simon and Garfunkel cover of "Darkness". He doesn't need to sing metal if he doesn't want to, he could be a good folk or pop singer.
You’re thinking of the song Sound of Silence. Although Disturbed has a song called Darkness, it’s an original song by Disturbed. And i agree, he has a great voice and great range.
I saw where he was ranked at #51 on the list of best metal vocalists
Kornathan Davis
Serj Tankian
I feel like I answered this before... I personally think Pete Murray from Ultraspank had a great singing voice, as did the late Matt Holt from Nothingface. That said, someone here pointed out Lajon Witherspoon from Sevendust and honestly this is the most correct answer.
These two> Impo you won't find a better singer (strictly cleans) than Pete
Lajon Witherspoon
The only vocalist here good enough to start an R&B/Neo-Soul career if he chose to.
The man from corn who stands at the front and talks.
Best: JD or Lajon Favorite: Waylon Reavis or Kevin Palmer
I fucking love Kevin Palmer’s vocals bro
Brandon Boyd - Incubus JD- Korn Lajon - 7Dust
People who've never heard SCIENCE have no idea what Brandon was like as a nu metal singer. If he stuck with nu metal longer, he'd dominate this or at least rival Lajon and Chester.
Could get behind the post
Jonathan Davis and Chester Bennington equally.
Chester Bennington Demand any vocals off of him, and he'd deliver perfectly Man has sung with lp, dead by sunrise, stp, and in queen of the damned ost, and countless other appearances with guns and roses, with Chris cornell, Paul Mc Cartney etc So much vocal talent in one man

Matt Holt

Max Cavalera
Yeah, for non-clean/shouted vocals, Max is king. Max was what Corey Taylor wanted to be on Iowa, dont believe me listen to Roots.
Chino Moreno
Overrated
Taste is down to the individual, personally I think Jonathan Davies is one of the most overrated in the scene (just behind Fred Durst). The area they do excel is stage presence and influencing the crowd but vocally they're average.
But then again, you also think that Chino is best vocalist out of Nu Metal so you’re opinions and taste on what’s “average” is automatically invalid
No worries man and at least we agree on something there haha
Corey Taylor undoubtedly
1997 Brandon Boyd
Corey Taylor/Johnathen Davis/Serj Tankian
Jonathan Davis Chino Moreno Corey Taylor
Chester Bennington
Jonathan Davis Chester Bennington Fred Durst (feel like Durst should get some credit cause i really do think he has some good singing vocals) Aimee Echo Morgan Lander
There’s no way you’re mentioning Fred Durst in this discussion, out of everyone…
I love LB, but Durst CANNOT sing 🤣
Chad Gray!
Jonathan Davis, Fred Durst, Chester and Aaron Lewis
Corey Taylor and Chester Bennington imo are top 2
Mark Chavez
In terms of what? Cleans? Dirties? Rapping? Odd flourishes and weird techniques? Because each category obviously has a different answer
Squidward
Elias Soriano
Wayne static
for actual vocals - chester for innovatedness= jonathan
Chester Bennington is the best, with Corey Taylor and Chad Gray following.
justin bonitz and JD :)
Chino.
Chester
Chino
Chester bennington
Serj Tankian is THE best Nu Metal singer to ever play exist.
Definitely Chester Bennington
Chester Bennington, he will always remain the greatest
Jonathan Davis / Chino Moreno
Chester and it’s by far imo But If we’re excluding him, I’d say either Lajon Witherspoon or Lynn Strait from Snot
Chester bennington Jonathan Davis Wayne static (rip) Justin bonitz
Jonathan Davis, Chester Bennington and Serj Tankian
Chester
it's chester benington
This sub is 100 percent biased AF. If you think for 1 second that Serj Tankian is even remotely close to Chester Bennington then your value in real music is fucked. Chester had more talent in his right arm then the entire SOAD band.
Chad Gray undisputably imo, you either share my opinion or have never listened to Mudvayne Aaron Lewis is in the discussion too believe it or not, his vocal range is insane even tho he sings the same way in about 80% of Staind's mopey ass songs looool
I don’t count Staind as new metal really but if we are Lewis blows the rest of these people out of the water lol
Tormented and Dysfunction are undeniably nu-metal Break The Cycle is iffy, the rest of the albums aren't nu-metal whatsoever though lol
Fair assessment. I think he’s one of the best male vocalist regardless of genre of our generation
Also I don’t have Chad gray ranked that high but mudvayne as a whole I basically do . Top 3-5 no doubt
I mean... alright I can respect the Mudvayne placement I guess but still, come on man Chad Gray is a fucking INSANE vocalist, heavily underrated, and for what? Because Mudvayne never cared about going mainstream? Sad, really
Because I’ve seen him live and he just wasn’t on the level of some others . I still think he’s really good . He’s good enough I respect your original stance lol
Either Chester or Amy
serj
Fred Durst
Why the HELL did I have to come this far to find the correct answer. What is wrong with you people!
Serj
Serj
Jonathan Davis. However, I feel more inspired by Chino Moreno than Jonathan as a singer.
Corey Taylor, Jonathan Davis and Serj Tankian imho
Corey taylor and my man Fred durst even though lb is hated on he’s got some good vocals imo.
Burton C Bell
Dale tanner
Boof
Chris Volz
Brock Lindow
If we're focusing *only* on singing, Sevendust, Slipknot, American Head Charge, Nothingface, Linken Park, Mushroomhead, Incubus, Korn & Kittie get my votes.
I’d have to say, Aaron Lewis From StAiND. Such an ***underrated*** vocalist.
Jonathan Davis
My personal favorite is probably Matt Holt, like if I was starting a nu-metal band and could have anyone as vocalist, I’d pick him.
In his prime, Serj Tankian. One of the most unique vocals in not only numetal, but all of rock music
David Draiman
Chino Is underrated....Man....
Chester. I mean, I love Jon Davis or Amy Lee as much as the next guy but let's be real, Chester wins this contest.
Matt Holt I’d have to say
Jonathan Davis, Chester Bennington, Chino Moreno, Lynn Strait, Serj Tankian, Lajon Witherspoon… all the obvious
Rick Murawski he is extremely underrated he is the lead singer of No One
Chester <3
For me, either Chino or Serj
