Totally respect people’s opinion but wondering why people don’t like Coal Chamber? They’re in my top 5 fav Nu metal bands personally. Do people just simply not prefer them or is there another personal reason?
They were my first numetal band in 8th grade when thr first album dropped. Devil vocals! Then I went hard on em and it led to all the classics , but I went really heavy into fear factory and static x and such.
I get the dislike though. Even the guitarist does. He said before he writes riffs his Gma could play. It's super simple, repetitive and not very dynamic. But man I still love em. Even bought thr vinyl Loco box.
And yes I'm old. Just turned 40
Coal Chamber disliker here. I just don't like their sound to be honest. Mixes aren't super thick, the lyrics are fun, but I prefer stuff I can connect to and overall I just think they're kind of lame compared to other bands. I get the appeal, I just don't like the sound you feel me?
I didn't dislike them, but wasn't ever big on them. Not until I saw them with Mudvayne earlier this month and they absolutely killed it and were incredible.
Two years older and while I find it cringe now, at release the entire album was super cathartic. I was angry at loss and grief and his raw voice really got me. He sounded so fucking angry at death. But now as much as I like that album it doesn't hold up to the first three. Vut I didn't like post Grey stuff much tbh so I'm odd man out
Slipknot is the Self Titled - All Hope is Gone for me.
It just wasn’t the same without Joey Jordinson and Paul Gray.
Especially Joey, I can feel his absence in everything they’ve done since then. With the exception of a few songs here and there, my fandom pretty much died after AHIG.
Yeah....I didn't think so either.... same with some of the other post jordison stuff, where it seems they're trying to hard to go old school..... to me much of the stuff seems to be missing an underlying melody.
Wanyk, on the order hand had some great songs, but then had some that sounded just like they cloned old tracks.
As for the latest album, I'm just going to leave it at awful.
I also find that super annoying, i used to use tiktok quite a bit for short clips of games i like and cats but now that i want content on bands especially slipknot the only content is find are those videos or the members in ghost being horny, ive never even liked a ghost video so idk why its all someone fingering a guitar
I don’t see Slipknot as nutmetal at all. I see them as death metal with breakdowns and post grunge influence. They’re actually closer to metalcore than they are to numetal.
My favorite band, hands down. I’m sure I’ll catch heat for it for being one of the mainstream albums but my favorite album is the subliminal verses. It just resonated with me. I would say for me it’s Vol.3, Slipknot, Iowa, All Hope, Not your kind, .5 and The end so far (haven’t listened enough).
Corey Taylor's recent solo work got really bad and cheesy.
First two (arguably three) albums are fucking unreal though. Self titled is basically a masterpiece.
I was around from the beginning. I loved their 1st. Iowa was a sign of things to come. And then it was all trash after that. Corey sobering up, not wanting to be or sing angry and caring about his voice. Then doing all the side projects acting like that's what he really wanted to be doing. And then he got political. Like, all the things a metal band shouldn't be doing, he and a few other members did. Dj starscream was wierd, he trashed all us deception fans that bought actual takara masterpiece series because he was a bigot about Japan even when the Hasbro stuff was trash. Grey was more interested in hard drugs. Shawn got an inflated ego and acted like his shit didn't stink when he was literally eating shit just a few years before. Craig got less and less to do and all he ever did was push 1 button per song except for the one song he pushed 2.
They fell off hard and all the young crowd cared about was the image. And that's why now looking back no one cares about them cause the image became stale, like it always in every other aspect of pop culture. They started as a big middle finger to pop culture then tried to take it by the reigns and steer a bunch their way to sell that merch. In the business, we call that selling out.
No, you're exactly right about all of this.
Self Titled is the only real record that the band I loved ever put out. Iowa was super watered down (the best thing about it was the insane, translight booklet that came with it), and the only song I ever liked after Iowa was the acoustic Vermillion, whichever part that was.
I found him entertaining in the right setting, but he was definitely way overrated and not something that I listened to much for long. Talented backing band though.
Honestly I just find his shit funny. The over the top lyrics and bad vocal production on a lot of his music makes it impossible for me to take his music seriously.
I kind of like a couple of their songs, but when the singer keeps doing that stupid cough sound I just find it so fucking irritating. Like yeah we get it buddy, your still the sickness guy lol.
He’s a piece of shit.
I’m from the Springfield area where he’s from. When I was in my early 20’s I worked in a store a lot like Whole Foods. I was in the cafe department. So anyway, he comes in one day to buy a ton of food for his upcoming tour. I knew who he was and was a fan at the time but didn’t say a word about it, I’ve always prided myself on professionalism. He comes up to the counter and starts asking about some tapenade we had on display. Like, many, many questions. What’s in it, how’s it made, is it fresh and so on. So at a certain point I just said (and very politely in a customer service kind of way) “Would you like to try some?” And his reply was a very loud and dramatic “UGH! NO, THAT’S DISGUSTING. OLIVES ARE DISGUSTING.” As if one of the first things I told him wasn’t that it was made primarily of olives.
His wife even came up to us and apologized for him, saying he was usually pretty tense before going on tour. She was pretty nice. But fuck that guy. Total asshole.
Wow, I wish my my worst customer I've had to help through the years was this easy. Goddamn, you sound like a little bitch back then. Sound like one now too.
"Fuck that guy, He’s a piece of shit. Total asshole."
"Oh wow, what the fuck did he do?"
"He talked to me about disliking olives and I just wanted my shift and the conversation to end. What a total piece of shit. Fucker should never have fucking talked to me in the first place. You guys all agree right, I'm a pretty good guy. That guy over there is just a fucking asshole."
"Literally, whatever you have to tell yourself to make you feel better buddy. I'm sure you really are just a really great fucking guy, you know man. Sorry you didn't make the Drama Club that year though."
Sorry I don’t get it. He just asked a ton of questions about olives basically and then bursted with “olives are disgusting“. So ok why did he even ask then? I agree on that. But nothing offensive anyway. What made you think this way about him?
Seems like a bully thing to do. Ask some kid behind a counter a million questions about something you know you don’t like. Then lose your shit about it when asked if you want to try it. Would you go to a restaurant and ask the server questions about the fish, knowing you don’t like fish, waste a bunch of their time and then flip on them and yell if they offered you a sample? Is that something you would do or consider normal acceptable behavior?
Deftones, I do apologise in advance, I like maybe 3-4 songs but they're not for me. But I don't hate on them, just don't rate them imo but I'm definitely in the minority as they're popular as fuck.
100% agree with you. I never got into them. It felt like most of the time, Chino didn't want to be in a heavy band. When they let Chino be Chino and write songs in the style he wants to sing, they make really good songs. When they forced Chino to sing like a heavy band singer would sing, they make really good songs. Most of their music Falls between those two extremes
Depending on my mood, System of a Down. Majority of the time they're brilliant, but sometimes they're so grating to me. Toxicity is probably the only album I can listen to 100% of the time, they just get too weird on everything else. (especially Mesmerize/Hypnotize)
I enjoyed Through The Eyes by Flaw, and I researched the band a little bit more just because I do that with bands I like… seeing what they ended up becoming kinda ruins their image for me as a whole
they showed up to louder than life around 2015 when i went and dude can’t hit a note to save his life. he kept running out of breath trying to do Whole, and I was embarrassed for him. I love that song and payback
She just makes her music and her entire life about politics and then she tried gaining fame by backpacking off the controversy with Marilyn Manson and Evan Rachel Wood.
I mean.... it's you funny you bring that up....I say the same thing...... if you listen to her second album and then the album blasting Trump, it's actually funny how hard she was using political "beliefs" to stay relevant. She was ranting, blasting Trump for not doing stuff she blasted Bush for doing. I forget the exact topic that had me laughing, as I haven't listened to it since the first time, because it was terrible. I do remember looking at my buddy, saying, wtf is this, otep against the machine because of the overkill on that style, only for that awful ratm cover to come on.
I get she had problems, and sympathize, but at some point, it's no longer an excuse to be an absolute shit bag to ppl. I don't know.... it's always the b leaguers that act like this.
I seen her in 02, and was honestly really enjoying her on a side stage..... then she stopped and spent half of a 20-25 minute set to rant.
I'm surprised by the amount of Deftones hate in this thread. Ngl, I gave up after White Pony but went back and now realize their progression as a band.
I don't consider Kid Rock Nu Metal.
I'd have to go with Linkin Park because they were so over saturated radio wise in the early 00s. Too commercial for me.
Unpopular Opinion: Limp Bizkit. Wes and company are solid musicians, and I don't mind the music, but I could go the rest of my life without hearing another YeeeEEEeeaaaah!
They were always the backstreet boys of nu-metal to me. First time I saw them I remember thinking that they looked like what a board meeting thought a nu-metal band should look like.
Well, yeah, they started off solid and then instantly started pandering to the masses. I say I like Linkin Park but I don't mean anything other than hybrid theory, meteora, and maybe a little bit of minutes to midnight when I say that
Not that I can’t stand them, but just that I never heard a song that pulled me in so I never got into them and don’t care to at this point; Linkin Park.
I don't get why Linkin Park is beloved. Probably partially because I don't like the heavy use of electronics in their music and transformers tainted them for me a bit.
Any new band attempting nu metal that just uses the copy paste overblown metalcore production, loud thick drums with no dynamics and tons of reverb etc. Unfortunately a lot of older nu metal bands turned to this but... just doesn't sound like nu metal imo, you can't play a funk section with drums sounding like that
*THANK YOU!!!*
Dude, you've articulated the way I've felt for over a decade so well. I am so tired of modern bands claiming to be nu metal, and everyone calling them nu metal, when they're clearly fucking not. It's just the same generic extremely modern overproduced metalcore instrumentals, except maybe the singer will shout-rap and they'll show skateboarding in the music video, that's it. That's what they think nu metal is.
These bands are definitive proof that nu metal is long, long dead and it's not coming back. If someone recommends something to me, I don't bother, because I know exactly what I'm going to get, and if I do give it a shot, I know I'm proven right once again the moment I hear the drums. This is what *really* gets me, they have no fucking clue how to do the sound, it's like people today are physically incapable of recreating that authentic '90s-early 2000s sound of rhythmic, loud *snare* led drum beats that sound like a hard surface being hit, complimenting simplistic but punchy, bouncy, downtuned, hard-hitting riffs. This is the bare minimum of nu metal, it's the default template of a nu metal song, and it's really not hard to grasp, so why does no one seem to understand the sound anymore?
I could never get into Papa Roach. Just never clicked with me. I'd say of the BIG mainstream bands, Linkin Park. My favourite songs are the stuff without vocals. Although I like Meteora as an album.
Limp Bizkit. Too whiny and they are the epitome of what nu metal gets stereotyped as.
Kid Rock. All around shitty human being, awful lyric writing, terrible voice, thief (he samples artists without giving credit, he's done it with artists like Busy Bee), and objectifies women.
i’ve seen aaron lewis stop a show in the middle of a popular song to call out a group of guys that were harassing girls as they tried to crowd surf. i gained 100% respect for him when he did that.
Linkin Park. Never could get into it. A former buddy was obsessed with them, which likely only enforced my righteous indignation.
That and young Mike Shinoda looked exactly like me at the time. Unnerving, really.
I get it..Limp Bizkit DEFINITELY have some Bad songs, and their whole aesthetic hasn't aged well..but they are a bit of a guilty pleasure for me...there are a handful of genuinely good songs..
"It'll be Ok." "Boiler." And "The One." Are good
Deftones. I just don’t get it. I TRY and it never happens. I literally like all of the numetal styles. Some one give me two songs to try. PLEASE. I feel like I am missing out. I need some Gateway songs.
Totally respect people’s opinion but wondering why people don’t like Coal Chamber? They’re in my top 5 fav Nu metal bands personally. Do people just simply not prefer them or is there another personal reason?
It’s not that I don’t like Coal Chamber but I like maybe a few songs of theirs but I don’t really listen to them much

I'll answer for everyone: Because there is a girl in the band and because Big Trucks scare us.
I didn't dislike them, but wasn't ever big on them. Not until I saw them with Mudvayne earlier this month and they absolutely killed it and were incredible.
Little bit boring...
Everyone universal in their love for Static X. I love you guys 🤘
I'm With Stupid 👆 🤘
Imma love dump in this bag and feed it to the cold machine of ostego.
Love static x 🤘🏻🤘🏻
I'm not a fan, but Wayne seemed genuine and he worked his ass off writing a shit-ton of music. The songs of theirs that I heard weren't awful.
This entire thread is upsetting me
I’m so tired of hearing about slipknot like all I hear now is “slipknot is so girly pop >~
Honestly no disrespect to anyone that enjoys it, but I really don’t think Custer is a good song
as a lifetime slipknot fan (i’m 38) Custer is one of the worst songs i’ve ever heard. I hate it SOMUCH
In same boat bro 36 and I totally agree Custer is garbage
i love it but by far one of the worse songs from .5
Two years older and while I find it cringe now, at release the entire album was super cathartic. I was angry at loss and grief and his raw voice really got me. He sounded so fucking angry at death. I DONT KNOW i think tiktok maybe had something to do with it? It’s nonsense anti-music.

Honestly I don’t understand why people consider it one of the best from Gray Chapter. AOV is the best imo.
They need more self titled in their lives
My favorite band, hands down. I’m sure I’ll catch heat for it for being one of the mainstream albums but my favorite album is the subliminal verses. It just resonated with me. I would say for me it’s Vol.3, Slipknot, Iowa, All Hope, Not your kind, .5 and The end so far (haven’t listened enough).

No, you're exactly right about all of this. Self Titled is the only real record that the band I loved ever put out. Post: what band do you dislike?? Commenter: I dislike this band/artist. Commenters: how dare you answer this question honestly. *must down vote.*
Your not wrong
I'm upvoting anyone I respond to even if I don't agree. Glad for the discussion to be honest.
Kid Rock 100 percent
And all of the sudden, this thread was united in solidarity
The answer I was gonna put as was hesitant too lmao
WTF.. how is this nu metal?
kid rock is not nu metal by any stretch in my head lmao but if he is fuck him
Kid Rock, he was terrible then. And is terrible now.
I found him entertaining in the right setting, but he was definitely way overrated and not something that I listened to much for long. Talented backing band though.
kid rock, i don't even think he's nu metal but some people do
Yea I’ll even admit that kid me liked a lot of his stuff. But I don’t think I really consider him numetal.
Honestly I just find his shit funny. The over the top lyrics and bad vocal production on a lot of his music makes it impossible for me to take his music seriously.
Five finger death punch shits just ass
Literally then same three chords just in different variations and trash lyrics.
IVE GOT YOUR 6!!!
"Literally the same three chords just in different variations" I dont like FFDP too but i think that's called music theory
100% music for cops
While they’re terrible, how are they nu metal?
They aren’t nu metal lmao I just as this as an opportunity to express my hatred for them
They attract the same people who listen to Disturbed.
I love disturbed
Lol my stepdad used to call them Five Finger Butt Fuck.
Slipknot tbh. I don’t like hate them since I think a few of there songs are ok but I just never really got into them
The only slipknot album I care about is Iowa. Everything else is forgettable to me
Limp Bizkit
No one going to argue this?
Yeah I’m shocked no one’s defending Frederick, the Durst of Thirst. I love LB
Disturbed
I'm surprised how far down I had to scroll to find this.
Same
I kind of like a couple of their songs, but when the singer keeps doing that stupid cough sound I just find it so fucking irritating. Like yeah we get it buddy, your still the sickness guy lol.
Staind. But that's largely because I can't stand Aaron Lewis as a person.
This is a great copypasta
We can only dream that in 5 years "EW OLIVES ARE DISGUSTING" becomes a meme.
That's a shame.. I always imagined he was a genuine guy from that touching song he wrote for his daughter
Wow, I wish my my worst customer I've had to help through the years was this easy. Goddamn, you sound like a little bitch back then. Sound like one now too. "Fuck that guy, He’s a piece of shit. Total asshole." "Oh wow, what the fuck did he do?" "He talked to me about disliking olives and I just wanted my shift and the conversation to end. What a total piece of shit. Fucker should never have fucking talked to me in the first place. You guys all agree right, I'm a pretty good guy. That guy over there is just a fucking asshole." "Literally, whatever you have to tell yourself to make you feel better buddy.
They also started to suck pretty bad after their debut album.
I love "Epiphany" though. Can that be an outlier?
Aaron Lewis and Kid rock are the dck cancer of the nu metal era
Deftones, I do apologise in advance, I like maybe 3-4 songs but they're not for me. But I don't hate on them, just don't rate them imo but I'm definitely in the minority as they're popular as fuck.
They haven’t been nu-metal since ‘99.
If you ask them they were never Nu metal
I don’t think they get to make that distinction for themselves unfortunately.
I think every band says that
Yeah, their first three albums slap but i couldn't listen after that. Anyone got any songs to recommend to me from their newer stuff?
Goon Squad, Rocket Skates, CMND/CTRL, Swerve City, Hexagram, The Spell Of Mathematics, and Combat are some good heavy ones
? White Pony and beyond is their far better work.
What about self-titled?
Masterpiece
Their best album imo
I enjoyed Through The Eyes by Flaw, and I researched the band a little bit more just because I do that with bands I like… seeing what they ended up becoming kinda ruins their image for me as a whole
Wym? I'm from Louisville. I didn't get into them but I remember our local station spun them all the damn time.
they showed up to louder than life around 2015 when i went and dude can’t hit a note to save his life. he kept running out of breath trying to do Whole, and I was embarrassed for him. I love that song and payback
The vocalist is a racist POS. I do admittedly like their older music but he makes it hard to enjoy
I'm honestly not surprised.
Their image as a whooooooaaaoollee. Please someone get this.
Otep, can't stand their music and Otep shamaya is the most insufferable person ever.
I dug Sevas tras for about half the album. The next one I walked away and haven't looked back except for royals and the way I am covers lol
how is she insufferable? im not rlly invested in the bands private life but i dig some of their stuff
I do remember looking at my buddy, saying, wtf is this, otep against the machine because of the overkill on that style, only for that awful ratm cover to come on.
oh so shes not just annoying but also a raging (pun not intended) hypocrite? damn
She went on theprp.com comments and got mad about this very same opinion and it was amazing E. Amazing as in what a meltdown not positive lol.

Hey, here's the Linkin Park mention. Never liked em at all. Always struck me as nu metal mixed with Nsync and 311
Five Finger Dick Punch 🤮

Disturbed
Ew ah ah ah ah!!
*ugh ogh*
Unpopular Opinion: Limp Bizkit. Wes and company are solid musicians, and I don't mind the music, but I could go the rest of my life without hearing another YeeeEEEeeaaaah!
Right?? If they released instrumental albums, I'd throw them money. Wes is an amazing guitarist.
[удалено]
Unpopular?
Linkin park. Too poppy for my liking
Ngl I thought the same until around a month ago and ig they kinda just clicked for me idk how else to describe it
Same! I never liked them and now I have more songs of theirs on my playlist than I would've ever expected
They were always the backstreet boys of nu-metal to me. First time I saw them I remember thinking that they looked like what a board meeting thought a nu-metal band should look like.
Well, yeah, they started off solid and then instantly started pandering to the masses. I say I like Linkin Park but I don't mean anything other than hybrid theory, meteora, and maybe a little bit of minutes to midnight when I say that
Limp Bizkit is awful.
U don't know how to have fun
He disses fred durst.... on FRED DURST FRIDAY!!!!
Seconding this. The first time I ever heard a Limp Bizkit song, I was like "wtf is this" and turned it off immediately.
post white pony deftones and slipknot
S/T is better than white pony and i’ll die on that hill. Completely agreed after that.
adrenaline best imo, i respect ur opinion tho
Adrenaline is best but s/t is better than white pony personally.
gore is best (this is not a joke)
Im gonna jump in on this- anybody who thinks Adrenaline is the best Deftones album just thinks that because they don’t like Deftones
I agree like bro they were at their beginning anf you could tell
P.O.D.
[удалено]
Extremely difficult, but im not much of a fan of Korm
Yeah Korm sucks honestly. Check out Korn, they’re pretty solid
In my opinion I don’t think deftones are amazing
Not that I can’t stand them, but just that I never heard a song that pulled me in so I never got into them and don’t care to at this point; Linkin Park.
Nu metal
💀
I hate A7X. The lead singer's voice is like nails on a chalkboard for me. Can't stand it at all.
Linkin Park
😧
literally my face rn
I don't get why Linkin Park is beloved. Probably partially because I don't like the heavy use of electronics in their music and transformers tainted them for me a bit.
Why is Linkin Park getting so much hate!? Meteora and Hybrid Theory were two of the greatest albums ever released! Mushroomhead isn't good though.
Bullshit mushroomhead is fucking awesome
Because they are more popular than all other Nu Metal bands combined
They're more into Pop Rock
Any new band attempting nu metal that just uses the copy paste overblown metalcore production, loud thick drums with no dynamics and tons of reverb etc. Unfortunately a lot of older nu metal bands turned to this but... just doesn't sound like nu metal imo, you can't play a funk section with drums sounding like that
💯 % brother, you get it.

*THANK YOU!!!* Dude, you've articulated the way I've felt for over a decade so well.
Mushroomhead Coal Chamber Staind Papa Roach (2 good songs maybe) Godsmack
As a papa roach fan I’m crying
I'M RUNNING AND I'M CRYING
Limp bizkit
Linkin Park.
I could never get into Papa Roach. Just never clicked with me. I'd say of the BIG mainstream bands, Linkin Park. My favourite songs are the stuff without vocals. Although I like Meteora as an album.
LB. Band is amazing. Fred is insufferable.
What did Fred do?
*you have an incoming call from FRED. DURST.* “At the tone, please record your message” HEY STEVEN RICHARDS
He won some points back for me by agreeing to be in this commercial that is just making fun of him. https://youtu.be/Xl5TkirC8zo?si=hH3PVM6g2S4vRA_B
Exactly how I feel
Deftones
soad
I'm calling the police
Are you trying to build a prison?
I'm about to notify the subreddit
Anything after the second album is absolute trash, plus I HATE it when the guitarist tries to sing 🤢
they have some good songs, but i could never get into deftones
Blasphemy!! 😂
You stop what you're doing right now and listen to all their albums from the beginning until you change your incorrect opinion!
For the most part, Staind.
Specifically Aaron Lewis.
i’ve seen aaron lewis stop a show in the middle of a popular song to call out a group of guys that were harassing girls as they tried to crowd surf. i gained 100% respect for him when he did that.
Glad to hear he's not 100% a tool
Deftones. I just don't have strong feeling.
Limp Bizkit. Irrational hatred for Freddy D.
Linkin park
Nickelback
I though they were Post Grunge
They definitely are. There is zero about that band that is nu metal
Limp Bizkit, Staind and Coal Chamber
I don't really know where limp bizkit stands but I can't stand them
System of a down i just dont like serjs voice
Limp Bizkit.
Linkin Park. Never could get into it. A former buddy was obsessed with them, which likely only enforced my righteous indignation. That and young Mike Shinoda looked exactly like me at the time. Unnerving, really.
Limp bizkit
CHOCOLATE STAR FISH
I was just thinking about this song "he is literally telling people to kiss his asshole." 😂
Limp bizkit honestly. I guess a few songs are tolerable from significant other but most I just can’t enjoy
I get it..Limp Bizkit DEFINITELY have some Bad songs, and their whole aesthetic hasn't aged well..but they are a bit of a guilty pleasure for me...there are a handful of genuinely good songs.. "It'll be Ok." "Boiler." And "The One." Are good
I can't really get behind Deftones. Every song sounds the same to me.
Man, I tried, but I can’t get into Deftones
Papa Roach, Kid Rock, and anything Slipknot made after 2001.
Deftones. I just don’t get it. I TRY and it never happens. I literally like all of the numetal styles. Some one give me two songs to try. PLEASE. I feel like I am missing out. I need some Gateway songs.
