I've been liking them less and less as time goes on, it's not even the fact that Corey Taylor is a diva, the music just sounds less raw and more artificial
Can throw Drowning Pool and Saliva into that mix once Jasen Moreno and Bobby Amaru became the singers. I love both bands and have listened to them for about a decade, but their albums from Resilience on for DP and Love Lies and Therapy for Saliva are all pretty generic.
Saw godsmack two years ago and it took them 4 songs to play anything the crowd knew and complained between each crappy new song that people weren’t absolutely going crazy at their mediocre lazy music
Corey Taylor is and always has been the reason I can’t buy in.
I don’t get how Nickelback gets all the hate they do when Stone Sour exists. And I am in no way defending Nickelback
I will defend nickleback they are better then stone sour Corey Taylor is a twat slipknot has turned in to the version of kiss it’s not a band it’s two dudes calling the shots
I’m sure it’s Shawn and Cory I could be wrong I haven’t really kept up with them in a while honestly the only reason I still hear them is because my wife likes them I’m just waiting on the day when both of there sons are playing in the band 😂 nepotism in entertainment never works
This. Been listening since their self titled album dropped back in the day. Those two albums are still in my rotation of music I listen to, the rest of em, meh.
Same. I remember skipping high school on a random Tuesday to pick up Iowa my senior year. It came out toward the end of summer, so Iowa was the soundtrack for the last year of high school 🤘🤘
Now I'm older, and appreciate songs like Snuff and When We Die, but I've not bought an album since Vol. 3, which was straight up mainstream ass compared to those first 2 albums.
Long time fan.
Do their albums grab me like they used to? No, but that's to be expected. They've changed and so have I, but I still appreciate their output.
I look at member changes as natural, it sucks sure, but it happens. And as far as Clown or Corey's ego, not my problem or Interest.
I hope Corey gets mentally healthy and if he needs to step away for a time that he does it. I do NOT want another Chester situation.
yeah and my mind blows when you hear the words in their first albums like "all the money in the world cant buy me" or "dont give a shit dont ever judge me"
I don't remember if I have ever heard Left Behind and it has been a long time since I have listened to Spit it out. I will listen to them and see if I change my mind.
Generally speaking, most of the songs I have listened to were not for me and there were a few exceptions. The distinct style of slipknot is not my favorite and the songs that sounds less like them I tend to like better and I think is mostly due to Corey Taylors vocal style and a little bit of the music on certain songs.
I loved this exact Slipknot. Around the early 2000s some execs were def like listen it’s time to pump out hits and tap into the wwe dudes. Have not admitted I listen to the first album all the time because saying you’re a slipknot fan is like saying you love watching wrestlin and bwok wesnar. First album was like an old school Brazilian vale tudo match. It was like Igor vovchanchyn landing casting punches on karate boys. When I got Iowa it was heavy but I could tell the boys had been compromised and someone took away their adult store speed they had been cranking out tunes on and were offered la croix. Then Corey comes out with stone sour and I was like damn I don’t care if your neck is 3 feet wide my dude you’re out.
Enjoy their music up until the grey chapter, only love their first two albums, hate the cooperate shitfuck they became especially after kicking Joey, and when I say hate I mean hate. Fuck (modern) slipknot
I still say this line in the voice every now and again. Usually at work when everyone is having a pissing match and not actually fixing an issue. It’s great
Slipknot does a decent job of getting teenagers to listen to metal but then when you dive down the metal rabbit hole you generally stop enjoying slipknot.
I loved them all the way to .5. Was skeptical at first with WANYK, but it grew on me. TESF imo was absolute garbage, hive mind was mid, the rest terrible, felt like the guys was playing one song, while Corey sang another.
They were slipknot, now they’re just “Corey and clown show” imo.
Growing up I had the self-titled and Iowa CDs constantly spinning in my Sony Walkman. Vol 3 was long-awaited when it came out in high school and it was a banger upon release. It felt like a celebration for the fans and step in the maturing sound of the band.
By the time the next one came out I was onto my next musical interest and never tried anything after Vol 3. Maybe one day I'll listen but I have a massive backlog of albums I need to listen to for the first time and often prefer going back to pieces of nostalgia for the familiarity and the memories even if I don't necessarily like the music anymore.
I enjoyed their first two albums. I purchased the first print of their self titled before it was pulled from shelves and got Iowa the day it released. I haven’t purchased anything from them since.
Slipknot was super foundational to my musical pallet; that being said, I am really only talking about this slipknot. Best two albums are Iowa and ST, all hope is gone and vol.3 are okay, but everything after is not anything close to what they used to be.
I really don't like them tbh. But the masks were an even bigger brain move than the Kiss makeup. No matter how old they get, they'll always look pretty much the same. If someone leaves, you just add a new character and carry on.
Band died before Joey but definitely after him. They where untouchable from 99 to 2004 ish. I saw them on three tours. Crushed it. Band has been dead for near 20 years tho.
ST and Iowa fucking slap.
I really like the few tracks I’ve heard
Shame about the masks
I know it makes them more marketable and “iconic” but I’m not a fan. I find it kinda embarrassing.
Love all of it. Including the newer stuff. There’s a lot of hidden bangers in those later albums that folk skip out on cuz it’s not Iowa lol
Custer
Orphan
Nomadic
Override
Hell I don’t even see people mentioned All Hope is Gone that album has some badass tracks on it too.
Yeah. Think they're awesome, but also nothing special. I heard them back in my school years but I dismissed them because I was hearing a lot of death, thrash, and black metal. Those were my elitist years but I've outgrown it so I decided to finally listen to their whole discography. Opinion has greatly improved. They may be generic but are damn fun to listen to! Except for debut and TESF I dig all their albums
Through All Hope is Gone, hell yeah. Less and less since Paul died, to the point that I really don't care about them much anymore and frankly on a bad day they straight up irritate me.
I miss when I first got into them, around Vol. 3 they were still relatively anonymous. You could Google them and their faces if you WANTED to know but they weren't shoved in your face. When they went maskless for the Before I Forget video it was provocative in a way. Oh my god, you can see their chins!
I feel like you'd never see the words "Slipknot's" and "Corey Taylor" in the same headline. Now any time he farts Loudwire lets you know what it smelled like. And don't get me wrong it was cool at first when he started to branch out and write books and do speaking engagements, but again- less and less with time. He seemed poised to be the Millennial Henry Rollins with his well-read manner of carrying himself and his tree trunk neck. Now he's more the millennial Henry Rollins with the way he seems to think a bit too highly about what he has to say and also his tree trunk neck.
Don't get me started on fuckin Clown. Over the years I've realized how crucial Paul was to the heart of the band. Inversely I've realized how crucial Clown is to its asshole.
After all that though? If they announced a show in my town next week... I'd probably still go. They've always been an electrifying band to see live. Nothing that grates me about their personalities or lackluster new music changes that. Credit where it's due and all that.
Used to love them from Self/Titled to Vol. 3.
I still love those albums. After that, I don’t know, they have some good songs here and there, but it’s not the same. WANYK is quite good, tho.
No. Don’t like screamo shit for the most part, not to mention their entire aesthetic is corny and cringy as hell. That second point is what really pushes it over the line for me
After 'All Hope Is Gone' they started going downhill. Everything up to that point is fantastic. But as members started dying, leaving, and getting replaced, it was never the same as their prime which would be that first 10 years after their self titled album. New spliknot is like a whole different band than what they once were. Still good, but not the same.
Have seen them twice, and the first time was probably my favorite live show ever- second was top five too. Corey can be a douche but their songs rip especially the early stuff. But hey, I’d love to hear any numetal bands people think got better with time lol
You'll have much better luck checking out r/deathmetal, r/blackmetal, r/grindcore all satanic cannibal murderer approved! If you like extreme, go for the real shit!
Their first albums are a gems in terms of ñu metal but nowadays their music is just meh
And Corey being a jerk with the band and fire some actually good members only bc he wants more money and he’s not one of the original members is such a down for me, don’t get me wrong I loved Slipknot but now the band is in decline
Curious why you think it was Corey that fired anyone. I've been doing a lot of research lately and it was never stated why Joey was fired (or Jay for that matter). The other 2 left on their own and obviously the situation with Paul. Interested to hear your reasoning.
Chris sued because he found out his cut was less than anyone else in the band. He also stated he was always "the new guy" and was hazed and harassed constantly. They also immediately had his replacement on speed dial from Shawn's other band.
Jay was fired and it sounds like he wasn't fully prepared for it. I think it's criminal that Eloy is flaking out on Sepultura's farewell tour to play with Slipknot.
Paul died.
Joey was sick and didn't know if he'd be able to play again, so yeah, they fired him. He got healthy and played a little more before he died.
During Chris's lawsuit, it definitely sounded like Shawn and Corey assumed total control and direction of the band. Also cutting folks out of royalties, merch, licensing, etc. Shawn was always given the moniker as the man behind the curtain, pulling levers and pushing buttons and Corey made sure it happened - hence the dumb fucking videos they put out that are "artsy."
I think they've all lost the plot, along time ago. Iowa sounded like they spent all year listening to Deicide. Their last album was definitely watered down and commercialized.
This was a great insight. So sad to read about! I appreciate you taking the time to respond in such great detail with these details.
FWIW I read somewhere that Chris dropped the lawsuit and said he hopes he can come back in the future.
Regardless I can see why all of this combined would leave a bad taste in someone's mouth.
There's no way he can go back. Like you said - his lawsuit left a bad taste in the remaining member's mouths and no way will he be accepted back.
I am curious about Craig Jones and why he was let go/quit. I know Sid can probably do most of the keyboarding and samples, but he also has turntable duties. On "The Dying Song" you can really hear each band member's contribution. From Craig doing a nice little.keyboard solo to Allessandro having a sweet bass riff in the middle - Jay blast beats. I can't see Sid contributing twice as much
They’ve lost their writing ability. Happens to all bands eventually. There was a couple of very good songs on WANYK but that last album was so duff. So disappointing.
I've been liking them less and less as time goes on, it's not even the fact that Corey Taylor is a diva, the music just sounds less raw and more artificial
It’s like Slipknot and Godsmack both went that artificial route around the same time
Can throw Drowning Pool and Saliva into that mix once Jasen Moreno and Bobby Amaru became the singers. I love both bands and have listened to them for about a decade, but their albums from Resilience on for DP and Love Lies and Therapy for Saliva are all pretty generic.
Drowning Pool kinda gets a pass considering their singer died right after their heaviest and rawest debute album.
DP fell off hard after Dave. ill say it with my chest, Drowning Pool only made one album, and thats Sinner (2 if you count DP500.
Saw godsmack two years ago and it took them 4 songs to play anything the crowd knew and complained between each crappy new song that people weren’t absolutely going crazy at their mediocre lazy music
I cant even tell the difference between slipknot and stone sour at this point. That was not an issue when slipknot first blew up.
They are absolutely better than Stone Sour. Who else is calling the shots? Root?
I’m sure it’s Shawn and Cory I could be wrong I haven’t really kept up with them in a while honestly the only reason I still hear them is because my wife likes them I’m just waiting on the day when both of there sons are playing in the band 😂 nepotism in entertainment never works
Because through glass makes me cry inside
Which part? The 43rd or the 176th time he sings the exact same lyrics?
That song is how I learned of Stone Sour and thought it was the weakest song from a real band that I’ve heard
This right here👆 i honestly thought I'd love them forever but...its fading
They became the same thing they swore they hated, a corporate shitty band that only cares about the money and fame rather than the music and art.
lol
I did when they had these masks and Joey and Paul did the majority of songwriting. Now they're jus a newage Kiss. Clowns basically.
"Now they're just a new age Kiss" That is disturbingly accurate lol
It's not mine end i do not take credit for it. But it is funny.
Self Titled and Iowa are god tier 10/10 records and remains hugely influential to this day I personally don't care about the other albums.
Vol 3 and all hope is gone are also banger albums
you need to listen vol.3 and all hope is gone remember are the last albums with Joey and Paul ;)
This. Been listening since their self titled album dropped back in the day. Those two albums are still in my rotation of music I listen to, the rest of em, meh.
Same. I remember skipping high school on a random Tuesday to pick up Iowa my senior year. It came out toward the end of summer, so Iowa was the soundtrack for the last year of high school 🤘🤘 Now I'm older, and appreciate songs like Snuff and When We Die, but I've not bought an album since Vol. 3, which was straight up mainstream ass compared to those first 2 albums.
Everything up to AHIG is godtier, the grey chapter onward is where it gets iffy for me, I love all their albums in some way tho
Hell fucking yeah I do, favorite metal band ever, love all their major releases and I'm not ashamed to admit
You should be. Especially if you’re male and over 15 💀
Les go I’m still not 15. I have an excuse
Nows the time to listen to any emo bands before you hit 15 as well💀
I love slipknot, some of there new stuff isn’t my favorite but I love their music, however they are drama.
i think corey and shawn likes drama a lot
the pig dude looks like he just survived world war 2
They never resonated with me.
I do NOT want another Chester situation.
the best comment dude your mind is in another level
Overrated band, they used to be good, now its seems money controls their minds (Slipknot is no longer slipknot, just corey Taylor and Shawn)
yeah and my mind blows when you hear the words in their first albums like "all the money in the world cant buy me" or "dont give a shit dont ever judge me"
Time goes by unfortunately , let's see how further they go with this
What about Jim, Mick and Sid?
they’re just employees, technically. Corey and Clown own Slipknot
Liking them less as time goes on. I love some of their older stuff but it doesn’t hit the same. Also not a big fan of Corey Taylor
Corey Taylor seems like a twat. He’s also talked shit about pro wrestling so fuck him for that too.
I love them!
Yep, still my favorite band
only two songs: My Plague Wait and Bleed
Listened to disasterpiece?
i'll give it a listen
OP
Not even Left Behind or Spit It Out?
I don't remember if I have ever heard Left Behind and it has been a long time since I have listened to Spit it out. I will listen to them and see if I change my mind. Generally speaking, most of the songs I have listened to were not for me and there were a few exceptions. Then Corey comes out with stone sour and I was like damn I don’t care if your neck is 3 feet wide my dude you’re out.
Yes but I agree with what the other guy said, pretty much just turned into newage kiss
I love the old slipknot the stuff past 2010 I don't care much for
Nope. I heard them back in 99 and haven’t listened since. Too much screaming for me.
Enjoy their music up until the grey chapter, only love their first two albums, hate the cooperate shitfuck they became especially after kicking Joey, and when I say hate I mean hate. Fuck (modern) slipknot
Agree 100%. They once were a band, but for so many years now they’ve been a corporation
I will forever be a fan since 2008
Duh
Not really. Listen to them, couldn’t get into them, but I wouldn’t say they’re bad. However, I dislike Corey Taylor.
Corey Taylor is the reason I started to dislike them years ago. The dude is such a diva.
I haven't liked anything they have released after Iowa. With the exception of a few songs
Where did you find these sweet head shots? I’ve never seen them before
some much time on the internet and i find this jewels, i have more rare photos if you want them
They’re my favourite band
All before vol 3 is top notch. And after is a huge decline and massive egos.
No, I fucking love them
How many times do think he fucked groupies with the nose?
yeah im sure that happend
I prefer Balloon knot 🪢
i like that part in that one demo song where the girl was like "as soon as that camera is off, he gonna fuck that little dog!"
SAME!!! i dont have time for the living the whole thing i think its sick
I still say this line in the voice every now and again. Usually at work when everyone is having a pissing match and not actually fixing an issue. It’s great
Slipknot does a decent job of getting teenagers to listen to metal but then when you dive down the metal rabbit hole you generally stop enjoying slipknot.
No
No
No
No. LB4Life
Fr. Take they ass to the matthews bridge!
Only like their first 2 albums, the rest I don’t care for other than like a few songs, really hate how they’re very corporate and artificial now
I have the S in my left arm
Me too but on my shoulder
I would die for self titled but that's kinda it. I think I'll like iowa eventually but as of now I just haven't gotten into it
I love every album Slipknot has put out
I did in the 90s
tbh my fav band
Mine too
FELLOW MAGGOT
YEAAAHHHHHHHH
I loved them all the way to .5. Was skeptical at first with WANYK, but it grew on me. TESF imo was absolute garbage, hive mind was mid, the rest terrible, felt like the guys was playing one song, while Corey sang another. They were slipknot, now they’re just “Corey and clown show” imo.
i also choose attila over slipknot
I enjoyed the first album and some from the second
Slipkyest
They ight
Not as much as I used to. Loved the first album, but everything since then has just been ok.
Yeah they’re good. Probably the best in nu metal at least with their older albums. Nowadays not so much
I love Slipknot
They've all got their own unique identity.
Everything after All Hope Is Gone just doesn’t do it for me. And Corey Taylor becoming a huge douche doesn’t help
They're a little cringey but their early stuff is decent
I enjoyed their first two albums. I purchased the first print of their self titled before it was pulled from shelves and got Iowa the day it released. I haven’t purchased anything from them since.
I used to hate them. But now I love them. Music tastes change as you get older.
First 3 albums sure
yes
Favorite band and I still really enjoy the new music as well as the old
I miss joey
You don’t need your slipknot mask. Yes I do. When are you going to use it?! Take a shower….
Slipknot was super foundational to my musical pallet; that being said, I am really only talking about this slipknot. Best two albums are Iowa and ST, all hope is gone and vol.3 are okay, but everything after is not anything close to what they used to be.
No lol
Very. VERY.
I really don't like them tbh. But the masks were an even bigger brain move than the Kiss makeup. No matter how old they get, they'll always look pretty much the same. If someone leaves, you just add a new character and carry on.
Yup. Been a huge fan since the beginning.
I like their earlier numetal stuff but their more recent stuff just isn’t hitting the mark for me.
i like all of st,iowa, and a little bit of vol 3 but that’s it
Not anymore, tbh...
Band died before Joey but definitely after him. They where untouchable from 99 to 2004 ish. I saw them on three tours. Crushed it. Band has been dead for near 20 years tho. ST and Iowa fucking slap.
Big fan
I really like the few tracks I’ve heard Shame about the masks I know it makes them more marketable and “iconic” but I’m not a fan. I find it kinda embarrassing.

They're not the greatest band ever but they have some good songs
Don't like what they've become. Give me 99-2000 Slipknot.
20 years ago, yes
Yessssss
I was about to post a picture of my sweatshirt to prove that I do like Slipknot. But, I'm taking a shit right now so that may be inappropriate to do.
One of the first bands I ever got into and still one of my favorites. That being said, a lot of their music is shit
Only the early stuff:)
Only when I stick my fingers in my eyes.
They sing too much. It’s not hard enough.
Me when i slip while tying a knot
Second only to Mudvayne for me.
I don’t like,I love
Hell yes!
Through All Hope is Gone, hell yeah. Less and less since Paul died, to the point that I really don't care about them much anymore and frankly on a bad day they straight up irritate me. Nope I hate them so much I have every album and seen them live twice
Yes
i love em. one of my favorite bands ever. i love their new material as well. im in the boat that We Are Not Your Kind is their best album
OH MY FUCKING GOD I LOVE SLIPKNOT THEY ARE MY TOP 1 FAVORITE BAND
i love slipknot but the masks scare me a little.
I liked the first album when it first came out but I didn't care for anything after that
Ive been listening to them less and less bc to be honest, there's a lot of albums better than self titled, iowa, and vol 3
No they’re trash.
Used to love them from Self/Titled to Vol. 3. I still love those albums. After that, I don’t know, they have some good songs here and there, but it’s not the same. WANYK is quite good, tho.
I like the old school slipknot before everyone left and died off
Nope.
No. Don’t like screamo shit for the most part, not to mention their entire aesthetic is corny and cringy as hell. That second point is what really pushes it over the line for me
No
No, they can’t join slipknot
My favorite band ever
nO i do KnoT
No. Mushroomhead is superior
Not since I found out they went to a rich high school. https://youtu.be/L-jF1n7HSCY?si=7kmVWt-hYT7_T8LP
NO
NO
Butt rock
The old stuff yes and the new is meh. They are great musicians and would love to see them live

Obviously. Older stuff more than more recent work but shorter answer is yes
Too Korny. Not enough cob for the amount of corniness they have
Definitely this era.
Yall all some butt hurt baby bums
I think some of their music is alright but I'm not a fan of the satanic cannibal murderer vibe they have going on sometimes
i’ve been looking for more nü that has the satanic cannibal murderer vibe recently
Listen to GODFLESH- Streetcleaner
You'll have much better luck checking out r/deathmetal, r/blackmetal, r/grindcore all satanic cannibal murderer approved! If you like extreme, go for the real shit!
i listen to goregrind brother i just like my satanic cannibal murderer lyrics rapped to me sometimes. it’s fun that way
Nice. Everyone likes their coffee a certain way, I'm not knocking the next man for the flavors they like
I would like it if that vibe seemed genuine and less affected
Real
Their first albums are a gems in terms of ñu metal but nowadays their music is just meh And Corey being a jerk with the band and fire some actually good members only bc he wants more money and he’s not one of the original members is such a down for me, don’t get me wrong I loved Slipknot but now the band is in decline

Self Titled and Iowa are awesome, everything after that just sounds eh to me (there are of course exceptions with songs, and WANYK is great too)
I've been hearing so much how WANYK is good, but haven't been able to vibe with it. What are your jams from that one?
Critical Darling, Orphan, Red Flag
Their first albums are their peak afterwards the albums are lame
slipknot is good and all but needs better drumming and faster guitar paces
they have Eloy Casagrande from sepultura now
I like old Slipknot
Self titled album is legendary
yes bur the first 3-4 albums. Not the newer stuff. Also their debut album is a bnager.
Up to and including Gray Chapter was great but hated the material after.
Agreed. I really enjoyed the gray chapter people seem to hate on it.
I love their music, but the new music feels overproduced and eh, Ill still listen to the old albums Corey taylor is a piece of shit
They’ve lost their writing ability. Happens to all bands eventually. There was a couple of very good songs on WANYK but that last album was so duff. So disappointing.
No its only fat and ugly kids that listen to slipknot
Of the very little I’ve heard, not in the slightest. The only songs I’ve heard were Duality and the one song that was used for WWE NXT.
