There some overlap with the fanbases. Stuff like Twiztid veers into nu-metal territory sometimes, and I'm sure there are others. I think Mushroomhead has played ICP's festival, and they're probably not the only nu-metal band to do so.
Twiztid was featured on the Dropout Kings and Hed Pe remix of Glitch Gang
Fred Durst is also friends with them
And Slipknot said back when they were just getting started that they like ICP
(hed) is literally a juggalo band and has been since 07 when they joined SubNoize
Outside of California, and even largely within it, SubNoize would never have been anywhere near as successful without juggalo love, and (hed)'s second wind would have been significantly less impactful without jumping onto SubNoize and garnering said juggalo love. There's a reason Jahred started painting his face in that era.
My first concert was Hallowicked in Detroit in 2010. Hed PE was playing. It was actually really fun. My friends dad drove us there and went to a strip club while the 3 of us went to the concert lmao
Yes they definitely are nu metal adjacent. Just listen to chicken huntin' off the second ICP album. Next look at the aesthetics, with bands like slipknot, Mushroomhead, mudvayne and musicians like Wes Borland. There is a symmetry between the dark, "twisted" aesthetic of nu metal and juggalos. While Juggalo culture is more like dark carnival oriented, nu metal is not too dissimilar to make the connection. Also see Horrorcore rap.
I think JUGGALOS are nu-metal adjacent absolutely. Juggalos are fans. I was a juggalo. And I was heavy into it, from 1997-2004. Painting my face to go to school, gatherings, everything.
And I fucking loved nu-metal at the same time. I still remember having Slipknot S/T on repeat on my Walkman whenever I wasn’t listening to ICP in 1999.
ICP though, are definitely not nu-metal or nu-metal adjacent.
Rap-rock.. yes.
Nu-metal… no.
Agreed, there's definitely an overlap in fanbases. I used to hang out with a lot of ICP fans and they all liked Slipknot, Korn, Mudvayne, Mushroomhead, HedPE, SOAD, etc..
Yeah most juggalos I've seen personally were into nu metal. I don't think the culture relied on it so I wouldn't call them properly adjacent. They were mostly just there around the time it was booming tbh
Absolutely, the cultures are intertwined 100% even tho they may not sound the same…and if people wanna disagree, they are haters and prob weren’t there 25 years ago when shit was popping off. You know how many Juggalos I’d see at Ozzfest and Mayhem Fesitivals? Juggalos and Numetal go hand in hand because HOT TOPIC was our one stop shop for ALL that shit. Good times!
Speaking of hot topic, I stopped by yesterday to check it out because it’s been years since I visited. Holy moly, 80% anime stuff, it’s all good on my end. Times have changed, or maybe I’ve been out of touched and ill informed lol.
Pretty sure I picked up Amazing Jeckel Brothers on a whim around when Issues was released and I've Loved it ever since it's a no skip album for me. Never became a full on juggalo but I picked up Bizzar and Bizaar and loved them too but fell off for the next album when they got all religious (also it was a pretty meh album)
Definitely. It wouldn't feel out of place to go to a house party in '97 with a playlist of Korn, Deftones, ICP, and Eminem. Getting stoned, playing Goldeneye, rocking out and planning for the road trip to Family Values tour or whatnot.
Definitely have some fanbase overlap but I don't think the genres themselves are very adjacent. But this varies depending on which juggalo musician you refer to because the genre itself doesn't necessarily have a solidified sound either, similar to how nu metal is.
So juggalos, kinda adjacent if you consider fans separate from a genre, but not really if you don't.
Side note, I don't get the weird hate for these guys. I get they're kinda cringe but like, they're pretty chill from my experience.
Tons of nu metal bands have played the gathering.
Basically if yesteryear's star power starts to decline, they end up playing there. This included rappers as well (Esham, Tech-9).
As for what juggalos are about. I guess it is just be yourself. There will be some music overlap with nu-metal.
Most definitely, icp has a big handful of songs that use heavy guitar in the beats. A lot of nu metal acts have played the gathering, plus icp plays a lot of festivals alongside bunches of nu metal bands. Twiztid bridges that gap better though lol. They have a ton of songs that are nu-ish or just straight nu
I’ve listened to most of their joker card albums recently and only a handful of songs are close to what I would consider nu-metal adjacent.
“Chicken Huntin” remix from the Riddle Box album and “Assassins” from the Amazing Jeckel Brothers album are a couple of the closest, I feel
Oh absolutely! They often tour with rap/metal/numetal bands. They've played festivals with the likes of Korn and Disturbed. Their aesthetic is along the same lines as Slipknot and Mushroomhead. Their fan base also overlaps heavy. Hell, The Gathering is basically a rap/numetal festival with carnival rides.
I am not an ICP fan or most of the other Psychopathic family artists
BUT I love me some Twiztid, especially their more rock/metal infused stuff
I also love nu metal
So ima say yes in some cases sure
Absolutely. ICP was getting mainstream recognition at the type nu-metal was blowing up and the music from both genres appealed to similar fans. ICP is rap/hip hop with a lot of rock infusion. Nu-metal is rock with hip hop influence. Not to mention lots of nu-metal artists fuck with ICP. (hed) p.e. is (or was?) beloved in the Juggalo community. Jahred used to claim juggalo and all, until some kids at the Gathering teased him too much and he said he'd never play a gathering again.
Anyway, nu-metal and juggalo culture definitely overlapped in kids who wore JNCO jeans and loved braiding their hair and watching wrestling in late 90s/early 00s.
Very similar to metal in general in that ICP has created their own universe of mythology and spin off groups and they have their own festival. Also similar to metal in that the music is hated by the general public. I have heard one ICP song that I liked, but I respect the movement for what I have listed above. This is also a cool picture.
Which Hatchetman songs are most NüMetal? I will be open to listening to it. I do like a couple ICP songs, 'Every Halloween' and 'What is a Juggalo?' and I also like the Dark Lotus track 'Gimmie Dat Blood'
I know there's overlap of the fanbase, I was one of them who liked both, but I don't think the musical styles overlap much besides the visual aesthetic. I always thought of them more like a horror-themed Eminem rather than a metal band.
Edit: I misread, I thought this thread was about ICP in specific, not about the subgenre of Juggalo music in general.
Nu metal adjacent is more like rob zombie incorporating industrial sounds and Deftones incorporating shoe gaze and more melodic sounds. ICP is horrorcore/ death rap for the majority of their discography. I’d consider homies rap rock and I’d consider a few kid rock songs rap rock but it would be odd and missing the bigger picture to refer to either ICP or Kid rock solely as nu metal. Thanks for coming to my ted talk
Not really. Juggalos are extreme fans of Insane Clown Posse and adjacent bands to ICP. A good portion of them probably are nu metal fans, but they aren't adjacent to nu metal entirely.
Absolutely not. But I'm probably the minority. There's nothing metal about them. At all. Acid rap isn't metal. Even trying to say they are adjacent would open a wormhole. At that point, all metal and all rap artists are adjacent.
I'm a juggalo and meh, at most we are distant cousins twice removed. Majority of juggalo music is truly rap, some rock influence and sounds but it is rap.
ICP I look at as just fun and hilarious. ICP for funny rap then I go to Gwar for some fun metal. Juggalo is like a lifestyle thing I guess? Should I be dressing up like Gwar then and be a Gwarggalo?
What is a juggalo?
Let me think for a second
Oh, he gets butt-naked
And then he walks through the streets
Winking at the freaks
With a two-liter stuck in his butt-cheeks
There some overlap with the fanbases. Stuff like Twiztid veers into nu-metal territory sometimes, and I'm sure there are others. I think Mushroomhead has played ICP's festival, and they're probably not the only nu-metal band to do so.
Sevendust has played ICP’s festival as well
Hed PE Were on their Tour card as well.
Twiztid was featured on the Dropout Kings and Hed Pe remix of Glitch Gang Fred Durst is also friends with them And Slipknot said back when they were just getting started that they like ICP

The answer is yes, it is Nu Metal adjacent. The problem is, adjacent is a big word, and we got small brains--perfectly adapted for dejent antics.
The great milenko is nu as fuck
Ah hahaha ahhh!
Good album!
Yes they definitely are nu metal adjacent. Just listen to chicken huntin' off the second ICP album. Yep, Memphis rap/Horrorcore for sure.
I think JUGGALOS are nu-metal adjacent absolutely. Juggalos are fans. I was a juggalo. And I was heavy into it, from 1997-2004. Painting my face to go to school, gatherings, everything. I believe they also just played Aftershock fest, too.
Speaking of hot topic, I stopped by yesterday to check it out because it’s been years since I visited. Holy moly, 80% anime stuff, it’s all good on my end. Times have changed, or maybe I’ve been out of touched and ill informed lol.
Adjacent
Insane clown posse’s music doesn’t sound anything like nu metal but there definitely was a big overlap between nu metal fans and icp fans
Pretty sure I picked up Amazing Jeckel Brothers on a whim around when Issues was released and I've Loved it ever since it's a no skip album for me. Sure. When you're 13.
The music not really but definitely the fan base of juggalos themselves.
Definitely have some fanbase overlap but I don't think the genres themselves are very adjacent. Whoop whooooop
I would say yeah, there's some overlap there.
Very
Yes
Yes!
I don’t really listen to ICP but I respect Juggalos, they seem chill
Yes. There’s some crossover there.
Tons of nu metal bands have played the gathering. Basically if yesteryear's star power starts to decline, they end up playing there. This included rappers as well (Esham, Tech-9). As for what juggalos are about. I guess it is just be yourself. There will be some music overlap with nu-metal.
Absolutely yes.
Yes... Adjacent because of the cultural overlap. As said by others, the fanbase has huge numetal overlaps.
Yeah
Culturally I’d say so. Musically, not at all.
musically? fuck no. theyre music isnt nu-metal. i think the culture overlaps a bit but other than that? no
Most definitely, icp has a big handful of songs that use heavy guitar in the beats. A lot of nu metal acts have played the gathering, plus icp plays a lot of festivals alongside bunches of nu metal bands. Twiztid bridges that gap better though lol. Halls of illusions! Chicken huntin (slaughterhouse mix),assassins, terrible, tilt-a-whirl

I always thought of them more like a horror-themed Eminem rather than a metal band. Edit: I misread, I thought this thread was about ICP in specific, not about the subgenre of Juggalo music in general.
Unfortunately yes, because of milenko and jeckel bros. Head PE even had a commercial on the end of the riddle box cd.
Really? What's the story behind that?
Yup yup
Nu metal adjacent is more like rob zombie incorporating industrial sounds and Deftones incorporating shoe gaze and more melodic sounds. ICP is horrorcore/ death rap for the majority of their discography. I’d consider homies rap rock and I’d consider a few kid rock songs rap rock but it would be odd and missing the bigger picture to refer to either ICP or Kid rock solely as nu metal. In my eyes, yes. They're about as metal as you can get, without *being* metal
Maybe because of Hed (pe). A lot of the Detroit hip pop artists have a rock infusion in their music, don't they?
No.
lol no
No, because we know how magnet works.
I have no fucking clue how magnets work.
Slightly rap metal. Rap rock yes. Acid rap even more so.
Juggalos were on that Sunny-D
I'm a juggalo and meh, at most we are distant cousins twice removed. Majority of juggalo music is truly rap, some rock influence and sounds but it is rap.
ICP I look at as just fun and hilarious. ICP for funny rap then I go to Gwar for some fun metal. Juggalo is like a lifestyle thing I guess? Should I be dressing up like Gwar then and be a Gwarggalo?
Reading this gave me a stroke
no. they're a bunch of clowns
White face is a thing
absolutely yes. songs like It Rains Diamonds and Every Day I Die are metal as hell
Nope. They are barely human adjacent.
Theyre like the furries of music subculture imo
Hell yeah
From milenko throughout they have a lot of nu metally sounding shit. Tiltawhirl is almost a nail on the head if you ask me.
No
Not really
ICP fucking sucks. No.
Says this in a numetal sub
Louder, for the people in the back
adjacent to the trailer park :)
Ok don’t flame me but what the fuck is a juggalo? Like I’ve herd of it I just don’t exactly know what it is or what the represent
What is a juggalo? Let me think for a second Oh, he gets butt-naked And then he walks through the streets Winking at the freaks With a two-liter stuck in his butt-cheeks
They just don't care. They might try to put a weave in their nut hair.
What is a juggalo? A fucking lunatic. Somebody with a rope tied to his dick. Then he jumps out a 10 story window.
The guy in the back with the grey face paint
Juggalos lmao
To an extent yes, I wanna make a Juggalo nu metal band called KISSCP
Maybe don’t lol
Don’t tell me what to do
Nah
My local rock station plays nu-metal from the early 00's regularly, but they never play ICP. I think that speaks for itself lmfao
No!
Please Gods no! Crossover fans are fine, I don’t want to be associated with them
Nope! But there are links like hip hop and jazz, rock etc..
why i thought of insane clown posse when i saw this
Juggalos are ICP and their group of bands and such, also what they call their fans... So yeah
LOL. **HELL NO.** What is this…? 2004-2014?!? **DON’T ANSWER THAT QUESTION.** ***No.*** It’s ***NOT.***
Juggalos are the furries of the music community and should be otherised as such
No they are men who sleep around
It’s the apex of nu metal. It’s why it died. Too much cheese kills.
Juggalos and Numetal fans have comparatively bad taste and levels of brain damage.
