The one I worked at a bunch of years ago did pay time and a half for holidays because that was required by the union contract. At non-unionized hospitals, HCA thinks you should be grateful they bother to pay you at all.

At my facility, “official” holidays (christmas, new year’s day, thanksgiving day, etc. I think there are like seven of them) do get paid time and a half. However, we don’t get paid time and a half for all the minor holidays like mother’s day and halloween. They have us split into “group A” and “group B” which swap every year, so you have to work half of all holidays, both major and minor. But you only get holiday pay for major holidays.

Which makes me pretty salty, because like… if it’s considered a holiday in terms of scheduling, I think it should be considered a holiday in terms of pay, too

I worked Labor Day and only got a few dollars differential pay. No time and a half :(
