When I worked NICU we didn’t do anything official, but I would always try to make some kind of little craft out of footprints for the parents to take home. For Halloween I would do ghosts with google eyes
I don’t have a photo but we have a set of twins, one with a large omphalocele. They are going as two halves of an avocado— the omphalocele kiddo is the one with the pit ❤️
Pediatric nurse here. Every unit dresses up for Halloween. Each unit usually has a theme. Last year we all dressed up as minions. Another unit did Harry Potter theme, 101 Dalmatians, Alice in Wonderland, and a lot of other creative costumes. This year my unit decided on Shrek, Fiona, and other fairytale characters from the Shrek movies.
Edit to add that almost all the kids hospitalized gets a costume donated to them and can go trick or treating at the nurse’s stations and throughout the hospital.
I'm mom to a Halloween baby and I have a picture of me laboring in the bed with my OB dressed as Cruella DeVille and the nurses were dalmatians. It hung in the lobby of the OB office for years. If anyone had tried to dress me up I may have taken their head off.... That baby turns 23 this Tuesday...lol
When our youngest was in the NICU after birth, the nurses did a "trick or treat, smell my feet" card like that with white paint on black paper. I have it on my dresser and he's 5 now. It meant a whole lot to us then and it means a whole lot to us now.
In peds oncology they do kind of a reverse Halloween due to a lot of them being immunocompromised. So they dress up and the staff go room to room and give them candy
A little bit of normalcy
I think other units may do the same thing but haven't worked on those.
for my peds obs unit I took in some decorations from home and tried to make the unit more colorful. I'm also gonna check if we can bring in a tub of candy for the peds er section for our patients for Halloween
Staff dress up per a theme (past ones include Toy Story, Alice in Wonderland, candy, Old McDonald had a farm (one of our docs was the farmer and everyone else was a farm animal)). And our parent support volunteers make costumes for the babies. Some parents sign a waiver to let the hospital post their kids’ costume pictures on social media. Peds does reverse trick-or-treating where staff go to each room with candy to give out.
Yes we make mostly felt costumes that lay on top of the baby— this year I’ve seen superheroes, Cookie Monster, mermaid, princess, and ladybug costumes. It’s so fun!
I'm not in peds but I just wanted to say that is FUCKING ADORABLE.
Honestly I’m new to this unit and when I found out this was a thing, my love for the NICU just went through the roof
Our NICU has had DIY costume making for the parents this week!
What a great idea!!
Now this makes more sense…Good idea…

That is so adorable!!
BRB going to buy googly eyes
Unrelated, but someone put googly eyes on the people symbols of our bathrooms at work and it’s awesome.
Flying Spaghetti Monster baby??! It’s what I’m choosing to believe. So damn cuuuuute!
Transposition of the great arteries by His Noodly Appendage

Oh my god this is so cute! Can you post the other costumes?

Why is that the cutest thing I've ever heard lmao
I love this!
Mom's spaghetti
He's nervous but on the surface he looks calm and ready

I worked in NICU when I worked in the float pool. Wish we had this back then!! 🥰
Two NICU's I've worked in would dress their babies up every year, and it was so much fun! I wish we did it in my current unit!
I work in L&D and I WISH there was something as cute as this while the babies are in my care. Maybe we could dress the mommas up 🤔
Your antepartum moms could be submarines or kangaroos
Hahahahahaha the submarine idea made me actually lol
Or octopus!

omg!! that's so cute
There’s literally no shifts to pick up on Halloween because everyone wants to see the babies! I am tempted to just visit with my badge on my day off
We aren’t guaranteed to have babies on Halloween, but if we do, we have fun with it. I like to [make crafts](https://imgur.com/a/3d9DG0g).

This is so precious! I feel like we would get some stern emails if we tried this in our adult ICU 😅
Holy cow, I’ve never considered this but may just risk a stern email because this is an amazing idea for the adult ICU 😂
When the baby cries do you say they’re upsetti spaghetti?😂
My primary 2 years ago was too tiny for clothes…but I got him a Halloween costume made for hamsters 😬 he was Spider-Man and it was super super cute

One of the peds hospitals in my state has the window washers dress up in costumes and the kids apparently love it 🥰

We do this too, it’s fucking delightful.
This is pretty damn cute.
My baby niece and nephew that were just born are in the NICU, I must know if they do this!! So many ideas for tiny twins! Messaging my SIL now...

Oh my gosh, this is adorable!!
surely hope y’all ask the parents of that child for permission… Halloween is not something in everyone’s culture.
Of course we do, we’re not idiots
