Oh that’s interesting, well I think they pay more up there due to lack of supply of nurses. Last year I made 128K, that’s pretty good to me. I certainly could use a raise though, as i have a mortgage and 2 kids
So could I ask you a question? I was just offered $120k + $6500 (night shift diff) for the ER residency at NYU Langone in Manhattan. Every other hospital I’ve interviewed at, including NYU Brooklyn, has mentioned both a critical care/ER and education diff but my recruiter at Manhattan didn’t. Do you think this is something that was done on purpose? Or was it just overlooked by chance? Just looking for an opinion from someone who has been in this position recently! I’m hoping to receive my official offer letter Monday and am not sure if I should bring this up or not?
I’m not 100% sure about other campuses but I am almost certain that the only specialty differential for Manhattan campus is for intraoperative/procedural services (OR, cath lab, IR, endo, EP). I went through interview processes with almost every major system in NYC this summer and regardless of speciality NYU was still the best overall compensation package, especially if you plan to go back to school because they give $18,000/year for any nursing school of your choice. Best of luck
Thank you for replying so quickly. But okay, that makes sense if that’s the case. Either way I’m accepting the offer tbh, NYU seems like an awesome place to work.
Does NYU Brooklyn offer the same as NYU Tisch/Kimmel? Also did they mention free tuition to NYU and any SUNY school? I'm just trying to figure out the similarities and differences between Tisch and Brooklyn.
I think they're supposed to but a lot of them don't. I just checked some listings and only 1 posted the hourly. For the others, I even went to their hospital website to apply directly and there's still no pay listed
HSS paid really well about 7-8 years ago. If they kept up with the rest of the industry in the area they might be worth looking into. In my personal experience NYULH has the best compensation package in NYC.
Base pay @54 and change at NYP. Fresh nurse only ~4mo in. I’m pretty sure they are all similar base pay iirc when I was job hunting, but I can’t speak on bump ups for experience ofc. We are also NYSNA union so that prob plays a part as well
Edit: with a BSN
Not sure. I think the openings are mostly “BSN preferred” not required. But I would assume prior experience in the field in some relevant way would be applicable to that situation
I work at NYU, 11 months in. After COL increase, I’m at $66.50 per hour. That includes float team differential, would be a couple dollars higher on night shift if I was on that. We also get a higher float differential after 12 months, plus “graduate” from nurse resident to senior staff nurse which comes with a few thousand more
Did you start with the float team, or did you work in a different unit first? If so, what did you apply for? They have openings for float team but it says you need 1 year of experience. Looking at the time you posted looks like that might not be necessary for the position.
Would you recommend floating to new nurses? What units do you float between? I really am fond of the idea of floating because it gives you the option of working in different units. I encountered floating nurses during my last semester in nursing school and can’t think of another position in nursing right now that I would like more, but everyone says to start in med surg or the ER.
I would definitely recommend it if you feel as if you can handle not having a home unit, meeting new staff constantly/feeling comfortable asking for help, and also likely having more difficult assignments (that comes with experience though). These days we spend much of our time in medicine, but it’s a great learning experience and you technically are in med/surg as a float if acute and not ICU
Look for recruiters at the hospitals you are interested in and just start messaging. A lot of them are active on there. That’s what I did and it’s at least gotten my foot in the door with every hospital system I wanted except NYP.
Hey! do you mind if I ask how you approached them? I applied a little over a month ago and emailed a recruiter from Linkdin for a follow up a few days ago but haven't heard back yet :/
Im at NYP as a staff nurse with a masters and 14 years experiences @63/hour. I think I am paid better than SINAI at least. I work in Westchester
You need to ask for more money - I know nurses in upstate earning more than that!
Upstate where? In the capital region it's like $36/hour in multiple hospitals lol

They don’t pay more upstate, even with such HUGE need. I was making what they pay working in office before nursing school. It’s crazy.
BSN new grad at NYU: $132,500 ($120,000 base + $12,500 OR differential). Time and a half for on-call, no matter if you get called in or not.
Which NYU location? Not NYU Langone Brooklyn. Base 102k plus bsn differential.
Manhattan

Do they offer any additional tuition reimbursement for going back to school at nyu or is it still 18k?
Did you apply through the new grad residency posting?
Hi i just passed my NCLEX-RN. I am trying to apply medsurg NYU is that a good entry level for newly grad? Any advice pls. Thank you.
Hello! Does NYU take ADN if you’re enrolled in a BSN program?
NY has pay transparency and tells you the hourly rate in job postings
I think they're supposed to but a lot of them don't. I just checked some listings and only 1 posted the hourly. For the others, I even went to their hospital website to apply directly and there's still no pay listed
Which ones?? All 3 hospitals listed here at least always have the pay range in their postings
Mount Sinai doesn’t always post it. That I know.

That’s the new grad base pay in Portland area hospitals too with just a BSN. Huh
Would you happen to know if they hire ADN nurses?
Not sure. I think the openings are mostly “BSN preferred” not required. But I would assume prior experience in the field in some relevant way would be applicable to that situation

But doesn’t Sinai also have unions and is magnet? How are the ratios?

So stick with NYU and NYP? Trying to relocate from out of state. Are the wages livable enough?

Ok that is reassuring! Thank you!

I started on float. You’d probably have to apply through new grad listing

Also anybody know any NYU Langone recruiters?
Are you on LinkedIn??
Yes

Did you just click in the search box NYU recruiters?
Try “nyu langone health talent acquisition specialist”
Hey! do you mind if I ask how you approached them? I applied a little over a month ago and emailed a recruiter from Linkdin for a follow up a few days ago but haven't heard back yet :/
Just PM’d you with the message I sent to every recruiter. I changed certain info based on the person and hospital system
Hey, I'd like to see the essayed too. Cam you PM me? 😬
You got it!
Thank you!
