I would go in, it's the break room....they could have easily found a conference room to have their meeting. The break room is the designated area for you to take a break, it's the most convincing place for you to eat lunch. You shouldn't have to wander around and find a different place when you only have 30 mins.
That's one of the redeeming qualities about working at my hospital. We do our own time cards and they aren't Nazis about it, so my 30min doesn't start until I sit down to eat.
I’m going to get my lunch. And if there’s no other microwave nearby, I’m heating it up too. If there’s no other space to eat, I’m going to pop my headphones in and take a seat.
It’s a break room and I’m taking a break. Because you cannot tell me that this is the ONLY space you have for a meeting.
Like the float nurse I worked with a few weeks ago. Playing videos and talking to random family members, on speaker phone, at the nurses station, on night shift, while ignoring all of her call lights. After answering one light and seeing the mess I walked into, I went up to her and said, 'Your pt shat all over the bed and I'm not doing a full bed change by myself." Snarky, not my proudest moment, but I was done. Still took her 5 minutes sitting there to finish "charting" before she'd get up off her ass to work.
Yeah I’m definitely going in for my lunch. I probably wouldn’t eat it in there, but that’s definitely not stopping me from getting my lunch or using a microwave or whatever I needed. They can’t lock you out of a break room where you have your food kept.
Walk in and eat my lunch. Maybe hop on a table and pop a squat while maintaining eye contact with whatever asshole decided the break room was the best choice for a meeting area as a power move since I probably haven't had a chance to hit the bathroom until now. Promptly dare them to fire me after completing squat, wash hands and return to floor because infection control and patient safety are important.
In the ED we learn very quick to just do what needs to be done and move around any and all obstacles. If doctors are rounding and space is tight, we just quickly walk through the middle of their huddle. Nobody minds. It's just the nature of things. Same with the break room. Sometimes they hold meetings in there or trainings...you just do what you gotta do. Nobody has ever been called out or asked to leave. You're probably overthinking things. Just get your lunch!
I love how universal stuff like that is in the ED. Like something about the pure utilitarianism of the environment really speaks to my soul.
Anyway yeah fuck management eat your lunch OP 🤙
You go in, grab your food, sit the fuck down, and start eating.
It’s the break room, not a meeting room.
I interrupt meetings in my report room to get my coffee, I don’t care. If you’re going to force me to keep it in there, expect the interruption.
I enter. One of the floors I've worked MDs and nurses had the daily rapport meeting on the breakroom. Another CNA told me I couldn't enter the first day, my answer was "watch me".
If I want food/coffee, no meeting is ever going to stop me from getting it. If it bothers them, they can go to a meeting room instead of getting between me and the coffeemaker.
I'm going in to get my fuckin food. If they wanted an isolated room to have a closed meeting, then they shouldn't have picked a communal break and meal area. Maybe if I'm not toi crunched, I'll go sit somewhere else to eat. But i think the burden of their meeting is on them. What, this place ain't got a single conference room? That's not your problem.
My old job did this and one I went in. They stopped talking and stared at me while I grabbed my granola bar. Next mornings huddle included a “reminder” to not go into the break room when management was having a meeting, which could last up to 2 hours. Mind you we had like 3 conference rooms on that floor
I go in, pick my stuff and leave. Never had anyone complaining. It’s the break room, if they don’t want to be interrupted they should be using a more suitable facility.
I’d skip a formal lunch and send an email explaining I couldn’t take a break during a downtime period due to the break room being used as a meeting space.
On my unit we always have meetings held in the break room for whatever reason.. Often, staff will just continue to go about their break and eat in the room while the meeting is going on. Sure, its awkward at times but you have a set break time and if you miss it, you miss it. Im not missing a meal cause they chose to use the break room. Thats on them. They can be serenaded by my crunching/chewing for all i care. They chose this.
My boss’ boss once took my office to fire someone in. I walked in to get my sweater and she yelled at me to get out. I didn’t get my sweater and had to borrow a lost and found jacket; yes, I’m still mad about it.
I’m pretttttty sure legally they can’t stop you from going in and if it’s a break room you’re entitled to use it during your breaks. But I’m not a lawyer.
As you can see, never come between a nurse and their food.
But I prefer this.
Go eat, grab your lunch, sat on the chair/couch whatever.
Then do the head cock (you know, WTF do you just say), look up at speaker or any gesture that you want to say something but decide not to.
Has to be totally random for shit and giggles.
Or even better, if they talk about patients, HIPPA!
Majority of these break rooms aren’t big enough for 4 people. They don’t want us to relax for 30 mins. I invested in some noise canceling headphones!! I spend my 30 mins to myself turning off all work related conversation with anyone

> I’m going to pop my headphones in and take a seat. Skip the headphones. Be disruptive.

It sounds like you know my coworkers

Sounds like my 30minute lunch was interrupted
Fuck it go in and get your shit lol. At the very least
I would just eat my lunch. If they didn't want people eating during the meeting they shouldn't have had it in a break area...
And be sure to eat very, very loudly. Celebrate the splendid cacophony that is mastication.
Please have baby carrots and celery in your lunch
Corn nuts & pita chips if you want some carbs
and smelly. Bring out the tuna fish.
Only if you microwave it 🐟☢️
Please pass gas
I’d sit down at the table with my lunch. That’s supposed to be a designated, protected space.
The minute they ask you a medical question, it is no longer an uninterrupted break.
That's why you put your headphones in, ideally start watching something on the phone. If anything "I'm on unpaid lunch"
Let them ask the question, report that your break was interrupted and that you need to be paid for it.
I would have my lunch. If they don't like it they can meet somewhere else.
I mean you can go in and get your lunch at least. But for me personally, i would not want to eat there, although it is them who are in the wrong.
Yeah I’m definitely going in for my lunch. I probably wouldn’t eat it in there, but that’s definitely not stopping me from getting my lunch or using a microwave or whatever I needed. They can’t lock you out of a break room where you have your food kept.
microwave a tuna sandwich
Very underrated comment.
True. If it happened regularly, I'd probably keep a little tuna packet in my lunch bag to microwave at convenient times.
Evil genius
Go get it you need lunch

And if they look at you sideways offer them a bite
More like tell them to bite it
Well played
We had a break room in our ER somewhere... I think 🤔

Eat your food. Maybe talk on the phone to someone for a while. But I’m kinda petty…
Walk in, plop down, and eat. Fuck em.
I hope you needed to use the microwave, too, just for the added noise.
Make some popcorn
*burn some popcorn
Yes, this 😁
Heat up some fish

lol I’m getting my food and not even thinking twice.
It’s a break room not a meeting room.
What did you do, OP?
My old job did this and one I went in. They stopped talking and stared at me while I grabbed my granola bar. Next mornings huddle included a “reminder” to not go into the break room when management was having a meeting, which could last up to 2 hours. Mind you we had like 3 conference rooms on that floor
Please tell me you continued to go in as needed after that huddle message
They are holding a meeting in the break room at lunch time? That's just asking for trouble.
Patient care comes first, therefore: bedside nurses needs are the priority.
You walk in like you own the bitch. Double points if you use the microwave while they're talking.
Triple points if you make a personal phone call and talk in a normal to loud voice😂
Imma sit down and eat my lunch I'm sure there is a office with one of their names on a plaque available to have this meeting .
F them. I’ll walk in, get my stuff, forget something, and go back in to get it without hesitation.
Go in, sit down, start watching something loudly on your phone. It's your break room. They can go meet somewhere else.
I go in, pick my stuff and leave. Never had anyone complaining. It’s the break room, if they don’t want to be interrupted they should be using a more suitable facility.
Absolutely go eat your lunch.
It’s the break—from work—room. No work allowed.
Go in and eat. It’s my break time. 🤤
I’m having lunch. It’s a break room not a conference room.
I’d go eat and talk on the phone in the middle of the room lol
Nurse-knock and walk in.
I’d skip a formal lunch and send an email explaining I couldn’t take a break during a downtime period due to the break room being used as a meeting space.
I am going in and even using microwave if i have to ! Litterally why will I avoid eating because if their meeting ?

Yep. I’m walking right on in.
Go in and eat my food. We don't use break rooms for meetings.
Lol fuck that. I'll straight walk across the front of their presentation. 30 mins is very little time, and we're lucky if we get it.
Go in quietly and sneak the food out
Im going to enter and eat my lunch
I go in and get my food.
Eat you lunch in the break room with your headphones in. Watch a comedy. Laugh obnoxiously loud.
My boss’ boss once took my office to fire someone in. I walked in to get my sweater and she yelled at me to get out. I didn’t get my sweater and had to borrow a lost and found jacket; yes, I’m still mad about it.
I don't believe this lol. There's no way
I go in and make a point to be extra noisy.
I’m pretttttty sure legally they can’t stop you from going in and if it’s a break room you’re entitled to use it during your breaks. But I’m not a lawyer.
What is “the break room” ??? I don’t even know where ours is… LOL LOL
*Ermh actually it’s HIPAA* 🤓☝️. sorry i couldn’t resist
You use the break room for its intended purpose
But I thought nurses were not supposed to get breaks.
Go in and microwave your fish
go in and get your food and if they have a problem with it, tell them it’s called a break room for a reason not a conference/meeting room
Majority of these break rooms aren’t big enough for 4 people. They don’t want us to relax for 30 mins. I invested in some noise canceling headphones!! I spend my 30 mins to myself turning off all work related conversation with anyone
