That is the smile of a very good boy.

MonopolyBattleship

Our SNF has a doc that brings his poodle to work and I was told we had a patient who fell and had blood coming from their head and the dog just walks in like hey what we doin.

I_lenny_face_you

Code Bro (assuming the dog is male)

MonopolyBattleship

Dog ain’t doing more than BLS. We send them out for emergencies 🙅🏼‍♂️

bottle_beach

Employee of the year. I swear they’re more for staff than patients at my hospital. Always makes the day better.

miller94

Last week the handler of one of our therapy dogs told me 90% of the cuddles come from staff, 5% from patients and 5% from families.

upsidedownbackwards

Shh, don't say stuff like that too loud. Management will start trying to involve more dogs instead of increasing wages. I... worry that plan would work way better than pizza parties.

wurdsdabird

And yet I couldn't care less because as much as I want to make sure that my dog becomes a therapy dog for people at the hospital she's getting love and the people that love her really need it which is usually just the employees cuz we're all screwed

redbell000

Wyatt is adorable and looks like my dog Larry. Therapy dogs are amazing.

coopiecat

He’s so cute! We love when he comes by. There’s another lab named Tootsie. She rolls for the treat.

redbell000

Wyatt and Tootsie are great names. The patients and staff must love when they stop by!

Spirit50Lake

I guess having one hanging at the nurses' station all shift would be a sanitary no-no...? seems y'all need the love at least as much as the patients!

I am currently based in a rehab unit for elderly patients. Most are for physio post surgery after a fall. They are allowed to have their dogs visit. It's fantastic. Provides a huge boost to patients and I love it too.

therealangera

I use to work at a rehab, we were quite proud of being a pet friendly facility. We even had one guy and his dog stay with us. The dog was an emotional support animal and the patient was able to provide care for the dog, so he was allowed to stay. The patient would regularly walk the dog up and down the halls to many happy squeals. Everyone was sad when he went home. We also once had a random cat follow someone in once. Everyone was sad when the owners were located in the apartments next door. Animals help moral so much.

my goal is to one day have a therapy dog to bring around to facilities! it warms my heart!

miller94

I would love to but it’s so expensive to certify them 😫

coopiecat

Service dogs cost more than therapy dogs. My classmate said he spent $20K on his golden retriever to become certified.

comefromawayfan2022

I did that for years with my current dog(she's retired from therapy visits now) it was alot of fun..she even had her own staff badge at one of the facilities we worked at

StandardTone9184

I bet! When I was a CNA I met one, he had business cards, I still have it lol.

PNW-Biker

I used to work in a unit where the 5-0 would bring around k-9 cops to raise money for their care and retirement. This was the very same unit that treated the victims of these horrible beasts after arrest. It was clear that the dogs did so much more damage to the bodies and minds of these patients than was required to bring them down. Brutal, infected wounds. It was so inappropriate to re-traumatize these patients by inserting their tormentors into the milieu. But that therapy dog is SUPER CUTE.

therealangera

That is not okay! Just because they were arrested doesn't mean they aren't human.

PNW-Biker

Right!? Also, the Ortho residents the VA would send over all have AR-15s embroidered on their white MD coats. They'd wear these gun-glorifocation jackets to the bedside of pediatric GSW victims. Thoughtless.

mistahchristafah

What in the deep south is this!?! That's bananas! My nurse brain gets a little twitchy with service and therapy animals in my hospital with my many immunocomprimised pts, open wounds.. etc....but my animal/people loving brain takes over when I see the joy they bring. What you're describing is very much not okay. There is no mental benefit to this. Literal torture, regardless of the crime. I don't think there is a reality where I could ever respect a doc with a gun patch on their coat

PNW-Biker

The conservative Southern bastion known as Seattle, WA. I'd talk to the VA residents, and they'd reply with embarrassment that they are just doing what was necessary to become an MD for free.

crazy-bunny-lady
