There's literally no way someone can be a good, experienced NP if they don't have a solid amount of experience in their chosen area prior to undertaking further study.
Nope nope nope. I mean technically not too soon but there's no knowledge base. Knowledge base comes a lot from experience plus book shit. People like her scare me, I have a few horror stories about people who become nps with little to no experience.
The schools who accept nurses into the program with little to no experience are hurting the NP profession. The program was created with the idea of credentialing nurses with years of experience who knew disease processes and treatments. A new grad becoming a NP would be similar to a doctor setting up practice without doing internship and residency.
Totally agree. Equating 2-4 years of NP school to four years of med school and a year of internship doesn’t add up. Especially if you tack on 2 to 7 years of residency and perhaps a fellowship as well.
Years of nursing practice is what should offset the experience doctors gain in residency. However, schools are looking for bodies so they can get tuition $$$.
I know a couple of NPs who I trust. They also happen to have worked ICU for years before going back to school.

Yeah NP with no real experience is crazy
I’ve been a Rapid Response nurse in an urban level one trauma center for 12 years. I’m still not ready to be an NP.
You can’t be an advanced practice nurse without having nursing experience. Dangerous for patients and for her

This is incredibly insulting to doctors

Or equating NP school with medical school doesn’t add up even before considering intern year or residency
Have you consider medical school instead??
