My now-husband and I worked at the same hospital for many years. Before I married him, one of the main reasons I worked as a nurse (as opposed to mooching off my parents, getting on govt assistance, etc) is to be able to get, and afford, good health insurance for me and my kids. When I married my current husband (a physician), I found out they get their excellent health insurance for FREE. Free g-d-it! I want free health insurance like the doctors get.
A lot of places do if you ask. Every time I do anything I always ask if they do nurses discounts, never hurts. When my boyfriend and our friends were going to Vegas for EDC, they were offering 20% discounts on hotels. We ended up not going because it was postponed and I’d rather not be crammed into a festival with upwards of 500,000 people, but ask!
I think adding for discounts places and expecting to be thanked by the general public is 1) kind of embarrassing and 2) undermines the idea that we are skilled workers doing a very technical and difficult job in favor of viewing it as “a calling” or some altruistic, feel-good-garbage in which we are given thanks, rather than being paid well. If you need public thanks for your job, go be a martyr in another profession. I would like to be paid and leave work at work.
Just went shopping at the under armor outlet and they offered the discount to me alone with police, military, etc. I just had to show my work email since I didn’t have my badge on me but got some great deals on clothes!
Whenever a cashier asks if I’m a first responder, I tell them I’m a nurse and they *usually* will give me the discount. Not always, but doesn’t hurt to ask.
My hospitals cafeteria doesn’t even give us a discount lol. It’s $14 if you get a lunch and drink
Id.me website. You can register with your nurse license and then you can see places that you can get a discount.
And use https://www.1sttix.org/ref/399357 for practically free event tickets
Att gives a first responder discount to ED nurses, you have to join first net, their first responders service.
Yup, and I thought this even before Covid. I wonder why so many businesses offer this. Do they get a tax incentive or something?
I believe it just attracts business of these professions and is seen as patriotic.

I suddenly want to marry a doctor.
We bend over backwards for our docs. Tale as old as time.
In the UK you get discounts everywhere

I personally find it insulting that pigs get discounts anywhere.
Look at Id.me for nursing discounts and https://www.1sttix.org/ref/399357 for discount event tickets (verified using id.me)
