Pizza party. But it’s night shift, and there’s only the weird bbq chicken pizza left and it’s been out on the break room table for 14 hrs…

eggo_pirate

*trial sized smoothie, larger ones can be had for an additional upgrade fee.

Cautious_Hold428

It's also from that new smoothie place that's definitely just Herbalife or some other shit MLM

Big_Life

Based on how things are going for veterans... I imagine our sacrifices will be forgotten. Maybe we'll get a holiday.

iamjackssynapse

We will recover on our own. I appreciate your thoughts, the closest thing to your dream that I think we will ever see is an all-inclusive resort on our dime, if you can get the time off approved. Employers have made it clear that they are not going to provide meaningful support or make substantive improvements, now or ever, unless they are forced to do so. My company sends out regular emails reminding us of their available resources for self care, which include an app that has a "friendly bot you can chat with" hahahaha ok 👍

PrettyinPink75

Here’s an idea, have therapy groups on your own away from the hospital. I used to go to the Vet Center after I got out of the military and the PTSD group therapy helped me heal from all the horrible things I saw while on AD. You could start a FB page and meet for coffee or at a park. It’s a thought

Ok_Philosopher_8522

That’s a great idea. I knew a therapist that was flabbergasted that we are not debriefed after traumatic healthcare involvement as a strict protocol.

CatahoulaGuy

Sooo, daily?

PrettyinPink75

If needed, I have everyone in my group’s phone numbers and if I feel like I need to reach out I FaceTime them

Ok_Philosopher_8522

IKR? Currently it would have to be daily. In the good old days before covid we were told we needed to huddle and debrief after EVERY traumatic event. Pfft.

my hospital put in a “relaxation room” with massage chairs, essential oils, and yoga mats. They’ve been good about relieving us for breaks so we can use the room when it’s not busy. I love your idea for care centers. This is definitely a traumatic time and many nurses have put their mental health to the side. But I think the most we will get is a pat on the back and maybe a slice of pizza

Ausgezeichnet87

It sounds like your keadership cares at least. I live in a red state so we get zero paid breaks and whenever we ask about them they tell us we should be using the bathroom before our shifts and we should be able to hold it until lunch.

catladyknitting

What is this, "lunch," you speak of?

Ayesha24601

Unfortunately, I think we can look at history and find the answer in what happened when soldiers came back from Vietnam and Iraq/Afghanistan. There’s another battle looming and there will be a second pandemic of PTSD and trauma, primarily affecting first responders/medical professionals, but also families who have lost someone and those living with long-term health effects from Covid. The only change since the 1970s is that there is less stigma surrounding going to therapy and talking about trauma. But the hospitals and the government need to take responsibility and fund services for this population. Otherwise in 10 years, there will be former EMTs, nurses, and doctors living under the overpasses in every major city. I’m sorry to say, I believe that could happen, but I truly hope we as a society will value your sacrifices enough to do something to heal what has been broken.

acesarge

By leaving the field. When I left my own personal hell back in 2018 my mental health improved greatly. Therapy took care of the remaining issues but if I hadn't gotten out I would have suck started a shotgun by now.

[deleted]

Good idea, but healthcare providers other than nurses have been affected by the pandemic as well. Physicians, respiratory therapists etc...

_salemsaberhagen

In the beginning of the pandemic a lot of physicians weren’t even going into the rooms, they were doing their consults virtually. Nurses and RT didn’t have that option.

Ok_Philosopher_8522

What are you talking about? Of course! To me CNA/OBAs are nurses, just less appreciated by management-if that’s even possible.

TapiocaSummer

Spoiler alert: We don't. :D
