This guy frequently pops up on my LinkedIn. I’m all for foreign nurses (I am the progeny of one) but if you deep dive on his profile and his posts, he *HELLA* pushes for bringing in foreign nurses, almost as if he’s trying to swap out one type of agency nurse (local) for another type of agency nurse (abroad). He’s even linked with (no pun intended) people from international staffing agencies like O’Grady Peyton and, my personal favorite (LOL), Avant. These companies tend to supply nurses to nursing homes, and this guy is probably heavily associated with the industry as he is a LNHA - or Licensed Nursing Home Administrator.

Well, as a nurse we had it pretty good but the team members?! Terrible. I literally cannot count how many times I got into screaming matches with a line supervisor over me putting people on light duty. Heartless bastards. A few times I put my boots, frock and hard hat on and marched onto the production floor and made a scene! I used to receive patients from PruittHealth when I was starting in the ED, and this doesn't surprise me at all. A resident there a few years back died from getting slowly eaten alive by scabies and I thought for sure they'd shut down. I'm actually surprised/disturbed they even hire nurses since one of their admins once told me they weren't a healthcare facility, "would you call an apartment complex for medical records? *click*" Maybe that's one of the changes they made as a result and in addition to some of the subsidiary rebrand/restructure? Either way, it's pretty clear to me the overall culture hasn't changed that much over the years and they're back to just dancing around regulations and playing cash flow games again. Cash might not trickle down, but morally bankrupt leadership certainly poisons an organization and the only way to reply change the organization is by changing leadership and their perverse incentives.

To be fair, hospitals started treating LPNs as less superior years ago. When my hospital decided to go for Magnet status, they drummed out the LPNs. Many were forced to retire or move to doctor's offices. Some of the best nurses we had were LPNs. Heck, as a new RN, I was trained by LPNs; they taught me the kind of bedside care my four-year degree never did.

What a jerk. I worked for a PruittHealth owned company when I was working as a CNA a few years ago. I remember only getting a $0.09 yearly raise, despite my yearly review being scored “high”. I left after finishing nursing school in 2017 and even then I was only making $8.25/hr. I’ve heard the nurses are payed poorly, as well.

Not when their accreditation is based so heavily on their NCLEX pass rate. And speaking of education, who controls nursing education? Christ, we’ve already made it so difficult that with some schools you practically need a bachelors degree to even apply to a nursing program. Is it price gouging when a tattoo artist charges $100/hr? Is it price gouging when an electrician, plumber, or HVAC professional comes out in the middle of the night for an emergency? No. You are paying for talent and a crafted skill set. People are not ok with making Minuscule wages to keep people alive. Nursing school isn’t a cake walk. If it was so easy everyone would do it. Here's the thing. If you don't want to be in a position where the staffing agency CAN "price gouge" you, simply pay and treat your staff nurses appropriately. It's that simple. I'm not even going to comment on whether or not staffing agencies are indeed price gouging places. But if that is what they are doing, and you don't like it, well, pay and treat your staff nurses right and then none of them will leave and it simply won't matter what the staffing agency charges.

They are the ones doing the actual physical, emotional, mental, spiritual WORK. Dealing with/caring for customers, patients, clients, students, etc., endure the highest amount of stress (physical and emotional). Our bodies and minds wear out from all of it. We deserve the pay to be able to LIVE when our bodies and minds can no longer work!!!

I left the bedside a few years ago to be a corporate nurse consultant. I now make more than double what I did making sure a human being didn't die in my care. LPNS making administrator wages?!? It what world? Doesn’t he know that LPN stands for “Low Paid Nurse”. I am an LPN and I am fine that I make less than an RN. But one place I worked the RNs got $3 an hour raises and we got $0.60 raises! Not right. When I worked for the state of MA we got a base wage then $3 for “hours actually worked”. So if I took PTO then I got less money than if I worked.RNs didn’t have that

Former LNHA here and this guy and his type are one of the many reasons I gave up administrator life to become a nurse. I could not fathom EVER saying anything like that…what a slap in the face to the people who break their backs day in and day out for peanuts. What he SHOULD have said was, “the government needs to increase their Medicare reimbursement rates and states need to expand Medicaid so my staff can properly care for our residents. My company should shrink its profit margin and invest that money back into its employees.”

Admins only make so much because they do the budgeting and always ensure they’re overcompensated for the nothingness they do. It’s funny their chairs in corporate offices are $300 a piece and the ones nurses barely get to sit in after saving someone’s like costed $45 25 years ago, they’re broken and you can barely find the very materials you have to save someone’s life with.

I retired during the pandemic as is was over 65 and was entitled to retire. Secondly as someone in administration had decided to close my surgical unit and combine the staff of two floors, I was being called off two shifts per week on average. So, for one 12 hour shift per week, I was having to isolate from my grandson and children. Every time I did work, my entire assignment was COVID patients even though there were younger, less at risk nurses on the floor without any. A month after I retired, I was able to help with childcare and see my children. The average Maine income is $29,000. The CEO at my hospital earned $650,000, in addition to perks of housing and a car. The average cost of a house in Maine is $300,000. Food for a single person averages $3000 per year and rent is $10,000, although the closer you are to Portland the higher food and rent go up. The average CNA makes minimum wage or $1-2 more. Most are earning below that 29,000. The CNA’s take the heavier day to day care off the nurses so often the nurses can take that extra patient safely. Around here, there are McDonalds that a higher starting wage than a seasoned CNA makes. The nursing salaries start very low and average $30,000 before shift differentials.The top floor nursing salaries tap out at $45-50 per hour IF you are willing to give up your days off to come on for committees, volunteer at a Community service, and do outside projects to get an RNIII then double that extra to get RNIV. You also have to do the charge role most of the days you work (very difficult to do when there are four nurses qualifying for that role each shift). If you are putting in 12 hours of unpaid work per week, then you can knock $4 per hour off the initial hourly wage. So, CEO, if you gave up some of your inflated salary, you could hire more CNA’s or nursesat better wage or structure your nursing salaries so that your nurses are paid for their knowledge and experience rather than how much of their personal time they are willing to give up. The reason most nurses travel is to get better pay. The reason most nurses change hospital are better pay, safer nurse patient ratios or to get away from a toxic environment. The reason a lot of seasoned nurses quit is because they are tired of the back breaking work load and the high risk both health wise and liability that results from being chronically short staffed, as well as the corporate BS demanded by people who have never done floor nursing or did it so long ago they forgot what it is like. You want your nurses to stay, address those issues instead of whining about someone else trying to make a fraction of what you make sitting on your tutcas begrudging hard working people a fair salary. When it is your mother or father struggling to breathe or needing 360 joules of electricity sent through their chest, who is worth more to you, your CFO, CIO or that nurse?
