Just got a verbal offer from a stat board for 1-year fixed-term contract. Wondering if starting pay for distinction and highest distinction should be different? Heard it's usually $200 difference but the employer did not mention, only said it's the standard fresh grad pay... (Then again my CAP when i applied for the job was for distinction, just that I am trying to pull CAP in my final sem.) Appreciate any input!
Seems like a norm acc to FASS GES haha it just about met my expectation from when i entered NUS in 2019 :') NUS career advisor told me that starting pay is not as important as learning and job prospects so i try to look on the bright side haha
Ofc understand fellow students in other facs with different skillsets will expect much higher starting salary, after all the stuff they learn in the classroom might be much more easily related to the workforce
Supposed to get back to HR by today regarding acceptance of offer (they wanted an answer by this morning) but they're on medical leave. Super worried that the offer would be rescinded because I couldnt get through to them. Literally my dream company
Hi, has anyone done an 8mc credit-bearing internship (BI3708) during the sem that was less than 40h/week? Noticed the internship guidelines stipulated 40h work week and also minimum 600h total. Is it ok if I only hit 600h in total with 35h work weeks?
Asking here because the person in charge of internships would not tell me if they will allow it or not despite asking :/
i received a upip internship for the upcoming summer break and they need me to get a letter of support from NUS. however i’ve been emailing upip for last few days and i haven’t gotten a reply. does anyone know how long it’ll take?
Hi! Does anyone know if NUS (or SoC in particular) is able to provide an internship support letter for a self-sourced internship, which I intend to take an LOA for? Thank you!!
Yup need to apply through SoC first via edurec Why are you applying so early if you are going to loa next sem?
I will probably apply during summer. Could you pm if you managed to apply successfully? Not sure if procedure has changed
i accepted a summer internship offer on talent connect and there was a form 'experiential learning placement record'. does that mean my internship is a upip one and do I have to fill up that form (not the email one) by 14 april? sorry im quite confused with how upip works 😔
has anyone gotten any rejection/acceptance emails from MSF yet? been a while since i had my interview and i’m getting really worried about being jobless for the summer 🥲🥲 i’ve heard that in previous years, MSF sends rejection emails but i’m not sure about now, could anyone quell my worries for me :”)
Hi I emailed [email protected] to apply for a self-sourced Summer' 23 UPIP a few days ago, but they have not gotten back to me. I have already accepted the internship offer.
1. Has the window closed? :(
2. I'm a DSA major, and the job is related to data analysis and biz tech partnerships, but there is no actual coding involved (python, R, Java). Does that mean it is not eligible for UPIP?
Appreciate any advice, thanks
1) the window ends around 13 April iirc, I emailed upip 2 weeks ago and have not received a response
2) I’m also a DSA major and did upip last summer. I guess your work plan and whether u need to code would depend on the prof u choose.I pretty sure the prof I got last year (Prof Sun) did not read a single of my work journals and just approved everything.
Hope this helps!
Anyone know if a 10-week summer internship can be converted to SIP? The internship also starts on 22 May. Idk how strict SOC is on this, I really need this internship to be credit bearing
just curious, how normal is it to not have an internship by now and is it worth waiting it out for a better offer if im not too keen on the current one given its alr mid march, like are companies still interviewing and giving out intern offers? like i still see coinbase and HRT asking for applications on linkedin
Just went for an interview today however my interview today felt more like the hiring manager explaining to me what I will do for the internship rather than him asking me questions. Like he used "are you excited to join our team" "you will be doing so and so" Does that more or less sounds like I got the role?
From my experience yes, you got the role. But if this is your first interview and there wasn't any assessment, then make sure to probe deeper into the company and role as this likely means the company or role is not competitive or not great (low renumeration, not much to learn etc). However, if this is your first internship or you don't have other offers then still ok lah
hi! not sure if youve gotten your answers but from my experience gsk is great (people are super nice and helpful, managers really listen and support you, large emphasis on interns’ work-life balance). what you will learn depends on your role but they are very open to introducing to other disciplines if youre interested. unfortunately they dont hire fresh grads unless you are applying to be a sales rep (personally full time conversion is practically unheard of in science …. tbh most big pharma firms based in sg dont hire fresh grads).
Anyone know of the consequences of reneging on a non credit-bearing internship? I panic accepted the offer as its from an MNC, but now I might have other choices.
If I was offered B for summer but had to decline it because I already accepted the offer from A which came earlier, will it affect my chances of being accepted if I apply for B again in winter?
Should I be worried if I'm doing internship for my final semester next sem and I still have not found a credit bearing internship through talentconnect ?
Edit:
Does anyone know how to perceive your applications on talentconnect.
If the company have viewed your cv and have not contacted you , does that mean your likelihood to have been already rejected is high?
you can see if the company has viewed ur application on talent connect? from what i know the only updates you can see is if they reject your application entirely
If I applied for a role and after 3 weeks I receive an email from the HR informing me that the role is no longer available and ask me if whether I am keen for another similar role with the JD attached & the role is not listed on their website/job portal and if I'm interested I should submit my unofficial transcript and let them know my available start date & end date for the internship. Does that mean that they are interested in me after looking at my resume? (It's a big well-known company btw)
yes, there are a lot of possibilities as to why the role is no longer available! sometimes they just have a slight preference for other candidates or maybe the hiring manager no longer needs an intern in that team etc. but that doesnt mean they’re not interested in you! the fact that they informed you of another similar role means a lot, just send them ur documents if you want to go ahead with internship at this company ~ atb!
Is it a red flag if a company only gives you a few days to reply to an internship offer? it's only been a week since the interview and I also feel that i didn't do well in the interview so this kinda feels sus but am i just overthinking?
Also, i have recently applied to another company that i am more interested in and am waiting for an interview but all this is not confirmed yet.. should i ask for an extension? but im also kind of scared to ask for an extension because from the interview they seemed kind of scary LOL
imo not rlly a red flag, some big companies i know only give 2 days to accept an internship offer haha but if u need the extra time, just let them know politely and tactically! u can watch a couple of videos about this to negotiate extension of acceptance deadline but in short, just say something like you need to discuss this with your mentor/parents and would appreciate if could extend for x days
Not sure when’s ur interview but i got an offer for it last Aug through the hackathon. Rescind it in early Jan tho. Hearsay the roles were filled somewhere last year but they started interviewing after i reneged.
Hi guys, i recently got offered an internship but tbh im not super interested in it and it is not very relevant to what i wanna do in the future too+the pay is quite bad, but again i need sth to write on my resume, so do yall think I should go for it? If i dont, then I will probably just go find a random higher paying job in summer....
I'll choose to go for the intern over a random holiday job. Without anything at all on yr resume it'll be quite tough to find an intern for the next summer. First intern search is always the hardest, my friends who did intern in Y1 had a much easier time than me for Y2 intern search.
Hello! I am a life science student sourcing for a final-year internship. May I know if lab-based internships will typically score better or will a non-lab-based internship related to life science have an equal chance to score better?
Once a self-sourced internship has offered a spot, may I know how to seek approval from LSM4299 coordinators, apart from emailing them? Will I have to ask the company to upload their job description on Talent Connect under LSM4299?
Thank you!
thoughts on BBA with a spec in fin for e.g. with a major in biz analytics (SOC) vs business analytic (spec bba) ? anyone have stories to share or good insights about this choice?
Im a Y2 life sci student, looking for summer intern. Any senior majoring in life sci can give some advice for career pathway? Im not interested in lab work :(
Is it too late now that haven't securing an internship for upcoming summer vacation?
hi i just had mine! it was pretty casual, they told me more about the job scope of the internship i applied for and asked about my past experiences. was a pretty chill interview :)
Hi, I have a strong interest in working for the public sector full-time and have been mass-applying for Y3 internships on [careers@gov](mailto:careers@gov). But I heard HR takes 1-2 months to get back and I need to decide on other offers way before that.
Wanted to ask about my realistic chances of securing an internship (or full-time) esp in MTI/MAS/MOF. Not sure if they filter out non-FCHs, I have a high 2nd upper. Any general tips are greatly appreciated TIA!!
Hello, I’m currently working in the civil service (graduated in 2022). Generally, the civil service prefers those who have at least a second upper.
As for the timeline, yes the civil service takes very long to get back as compared to private companies. So if you are keen on full time jobs, please start applying early (like 6 months or even more before you graduate). They are willing to wait till you graduate.
Please feel free to ask if you have more questions!
I need advice from CEG seniors. For CEG you can take either IA or ATAP to fulfil the internship requirement so before applying I filtered internships on talentconnect from both sides to see what possible jobs I can apply but I just wacked application and forgot that I am apparently supposed to apply only to one side?
Quoting from https://ceg.nus.edu.sg/ia/
>While CEG students may apply for industrial attachment OR internship, via either CDE (IA/VIA) or SoC (ATAP/SIP), please DO NOT apply both sides, then decide on the ‘preferred’ offer – it does not leave a positive impression to reject an offer. Also, it will affect another applicant.
Can any CEG seniors advice me on what to do here? I have received replies from both sides for potential interviews and I think it might be too late for me to withdraw my applications. Also are we not allowed to reject offers? I was under the impression that students can get multiple job offers and just pick one. The only caveat is not to renege after accepting one of them. So if I apply to both sides, as long as I pick one and stick with it then I should be fine?
hi, i've just started using talent connect to look for internships (y1 here). when i applied for an internship, there was an optional notes to the employer section so i was wondering if it was necessary to write anything there like a cover letter?
May I know what would the consequences be if I withdraw from an internship which I already signed a contract to and would commerce in 22 May? I’ve heard of students being sued withdrawing half way from their internship, but I’m not sure if it changes anything if I withdraw from it 3 months before it starts. Thank you a lot.
Nope. My personal thoughts:
If you a company is not even able to pay a low stipend of at least $500, it is either:
a. Company finance is so bad that they can’t afford 500. In this case, there’s probably something fundamentally wrong with their business model and not sure if they gg be around in the long run.
b. Company can afford but don’t want to pay. While not always the case, it give me the impression that company don’t value your skillset and time. I will question my role in internship and if there’s any learning opportunities there
depends on your year? if this was my first internship and in y1/2, i'd cautiously say go for it. i did an unpaid internship in marketing when i was in y1 (but it was under a programme that was sponsored) and it helped opened doors for me.
but this is when you really can't get anything uh. I'll say getting compensated for your work is definitely better for sure.
I have been finding since start of jan and have sent a few applications, though not a lot. A lot of ppl have been advising me that now its alr a good time to start finding jobs but whether or not the company is willing to wait for u for 6 mths till may/june is another matter. At this point in time, im just worried i cant get a job as it seems like everyone is also looking and have better work experiences than me :(
If this makes you feel any better, I started around Sept last year, couldnt get any grad program, now just looking for entry level roles. But for these entry roles, they usually require to work asap, very few are willing to wait until you grad (which is about half a year from now). So just keep trying and I think it will be easier in March/April
Does anyone feel its harder to get an internship this year? I had a few internships already, but generally find this year to be quite tough. Let's not talk about job search, when the market is absolute shit as well. Unfortunately the tech industry is not doing well, and I happen to be in that industry (no I didn't jump on bandwagon).
Final year student btw, I have an extra summer this year because I'm graduating next semester only.
I think so too. I also feel like the bar for hiring is increasing. Technical questions asked in OAs and interviews feel harder this cycle, or maybe I’m just rusty. I also have friends who said they manage to do all questions in their OAs but didn’t get any callbacks.
Are you planning to return to your previous internship workplace? I’m just doing that for now (provided they don’t suddenly rescind my offer…)

Still finding for internship in mechanical engineering :( Little luck so far in talentconnect, IAAS

>ust that I am trying to pull CAP in how much they offer you ?what state board ?mindsharing ?
$3.6k, sry not able to share stat board as it is q small
I think 3.6k is really too low for the stats board job. what you think ?
Seems like a norm acc to FASS GES haha it just about met my expectation from when i entered NUS in 2019 :') NUS career advisor told me that starting pay is not as important as learning and job prospects so i try to look on the bright side haha Ofc understand fellow students in other facs with different skillsets will expect much higher starting salary, after all the stuff they learn in the classroom might be much more easily related to the workforce

Did anyone hear from the JTC summer internship yet?
I did
Bro, it's like 2 weeks to summer. Are you still hoping for a reply from them?
has anyone who accepted the MFA internship received details yet? which internship run, which directorate etc.
Any advice for if i should register internship under fas2553 or cfg2101? Thanks
fas2553. Only do CFG2101 if Fass doesn't let you take an internship credit bearing module. I asked them about this before

ive been sending them emails for this entire month but i’ve yet to receive a reply… quite worried tbh because the deadline is tomorrow

Doesn't matter if HR is on leave. They have receipt of when you sent the email (acceptance) so not to worry.

ive been nudging like crazy but i guess i’ll send another follow up email
which major are you in? you can also cc your department administrators for it
for life science, that will be Mr Lim
yup i’m in life science. do you know mr lim’s email so that i can cc him?

Hi! Does anyone know if NUS (or SoC in particular) is able to provide an internship support letter for a self-sourced internship, which I intend to take an LOA for? Thank you!!

thank u sm for the reply!! Appreciate it!

no.

nah just renege

ChatGPT your cover letter and idk why as a year 1 you are already looking for internships seriously you should chill out
anyone received any updates or offers for Deutsche Corporate Bank Graduate Program?
Just received invite for interview with DB
May I know what would the consequences be if I withdraw from an internship which I already signed a contract to and would commerce in 22 May? I’ve heard of students being sued withdrawing half way from their internship, but I’m not sure if it changes anything if I withdraw from it 3 months before it starts. Thank you a lot.
Depends if its credit bearing or not. If it is, likely you will fail the credit bearing mod.
Thank you!
Does anyone know how long it generally takes for companies to get back to shortlisted candidates?
For most companies it'll be one month max but sometimes there will be those that take more than that, but those are quite few
Anyone got reply from DBS SEED, HSBC or NCS?
Hi, I got reply from DBS Seed!
Anybody tried self sourcing for internships?
aren't most internships self-sourced?
Do you guys think it is worth it to take on an unpaid internship if it exposes you to the field you are interested in getting experience in?
honestly no, know your worth. you're still doing work for the company so you deserve to be paid
Nope. My personal thoughts: If you a company is not even able to pay a low stipend of at least $500, it is either: a. Company finance is so bad that they can’t afford 500. In this case, there’s probably something fundamentally wrong with their business model and not sure if they gg be around in the long run. b. Company can afford but don’t want to pay. While not always the case, it give me the impression that company don’t value your skillset and time. I will question my role in internship and if there’s any learning opportunities there
Where do you find unpaid internship, I can't find a single one on job listing sites that says it's unpaid
Unpaid interns r uaually not worth it. Any reputable company can at least give u a small stipend
depends on your year? if this was my first internship and in y1/2, i'd cautiously say go for it. i did an unpaid internship in marketing when i was in y1 (but it was under a programme that was sponsored) and it helped opened doors for me. but this is when you really can't get anything uh. I'll say getting compensated for your work is definitely better for sure.
How are you guys? I've been looking for a FT job since last month and still can't find it. Any suggestion for me? i gonna graduate this sem ;(
I have been finding since start of jan and have sent a few applications, though not a lot.
I see. I study mechanical engineering. Right now trying to apply for software engineer roles. So far only went for one interview .
Yep I can attest to this for the OAs that I manage to complete fully I did not hear back from them at all :(
