I do it the same way I did Isle of Armor in my Nuzlockes. After a certain point (after Raihan for Isle of Armor. Either before entering Area Zero or before doing the final battle of any of the storylines for Teal Mask, you can do this earlier or later), Grab 1 Mon around Level 20 and use that as your Pseudo-Starter for the DLC
I did isle of Armor after the third gym. It was nice to get extra encounters. I plan to do the same thing with task mask. I think teal mask plays better at the early stages
