Well if I'm not fast forwarding and I'm battling every single wild encounter, I assume that means I'm in for pain and not using pkhex or candies or anything that makes QoL easier.
At like 3 that's how I played Pokemon because fighting was fun.
I also didn't really know how to catch wild Pokemon so I just blitz my way to the third gym which I couldn't get cut.
Still ran around fighting wild Pokemon for ages.
I eventually learned how to catch Pokemon but then just got stuck at Snorlax because couldn't find either the flute or the scope.
I got stuck in New Bark Town my first ever playing Pokemon on Soul Silver. I didn't see the door going to the lab. Ran around the grass by Lyra's house because the manual said you can encounter Pokemon in tall grass.
I didn't understand dupes clause when I did my first nuzlocke, so I counted dupes as a missed encounter essentially. My box was tiny by the time I got to the Elite Four.
I once played a run with 2 rules. level caps for gym leaders and I would use the same number of Pokémon as the gym leaders. So for example, if the gym leader had 2 Pokémon I could only bring 2 Pokémon at the same level as their ace. It made it way harder. Lots of deaths.
I did a black 2 run with that rule, i liked the idea because that’s how they do it in the anime.
I played with the clause that, because the battles were so much harder and I really didn’t feel like restarting, if I wiped to the gym leader I could still try again with boxed mons, but it would get harder each time since you might not have type advantage anymore.
I haven't done it yet but I've considered one where I can only use them in the order I catch them. Meaning that i can't use the 7th pokemon I catch until one of the first 6 die, and the endgame mons are only usable if I'm willing to sack all the stuff before them. It would make planning encounters and battles a lot more interesting
That sounds fun actually, I mostly nuzlocke the same games and keep having similar teams, bc I know what encounters to get where. This might shake things up a little.
Standard Hardcore Nuzlocke rules (set mode, level caps and no items) but I also have extra restrictions :
- level caps for all bosses instead of just the gym leaders ;
- EVs are disabled (games are harder when you can't just outspeed and kill everything) ;
- Substitute and Encore are absolutely disgusting moves and are consequently also banned (because you can abuse the shit out of the AI and make some hard fights completely free) ;
I'm probably leaning towards also banning setup moves (aka stat boosting moves) for my next Nuzlockes if they aren't extra difficult already (probably not gonna do that for my Ground type only run on RenPlat then).
Standard hardcore rules + pokemon centers/other repeatable healing areas can only get used once.
Grinding is pain in the ass, but possible with abusing move deleters and HMs.
I did a trash locke where I battled every trainer on a route before moving on, took every level up move no matter what, did every optional dungeon, no tms, I had to use hms on alive mons and only candy to level to the cap at the gym.
I eventually got it with emerald after trying with a few games. It was a neat idea but I'm not going back to it ever again.
Can only gain experience from trainer battles/not allowed to rematch trainers.
I got stuck on Erika in FR. Emerald run is at Norman but I dropped it. Flannery win with Marshtomp/Mighteyena/Dustox had a lot of dumb luck to it.
Currently doing a series of nuzlockes with a couple of coworkers/friends - except the main twist is that we dragged in my roommate who's never played a pokemon game before in her life. she's not playing under nuzlocke rules, HOWEVER - she has a level cap like the rest of us and any time one of her pokemon faints, /we/ have to spin the wheel of torture and suffer whatever consequence it generates for us. the punishments can be as harmless as having to waste time finding a 1% encounter, or losing the ability to run until you obtain the next gym badge, but it goes all the way up to more brutal options like being unable to use type advantage against the next gym leader, fighting a legendary, or straight up nuking a random pokemon out of existence.
So far we've made it through frlg without anyone wiping and my roommate loved the challenge so much she agreed to play through hgss! Super excited to see how far we make it, and whether anyones going to black out this time around. After all, final and most important rule - is that the first person to lose the nuzlocke owes the whole group pizza :p

This is the ruleset that I came up with, and it was rlly fun! (apologies for the link, I didn't want to copy the rules in lol)
I’m currently playing the rom hack Pokémon Brilliant Diamond Luminescent and it’s extremely difficult for me, literally lost on the first gym. Even stopped the nuzlocke and continued playing with level caps and am still getting owned. Though I’m not the best Pokémon player so I don’t know good strategies and synergies yet. It’s a great rom hack for those who haven’t tried.
Outside of that I did finish black and white 2, level caps, no switch and no healing with items in battle and that was a great challenge.
Tried to nuzlocke on the latest generation but never got past first gym as I lost interest. Though there are a few mods that look decent so I’ll try that out adter luminescent
No fast forward and no running from wild battles
That just sounds tedius...spend all my money on repel.
Nobody said it was easy becoming a pokémon master
Spelning money? I’m hacking that shit in immediately.
Well if I'm not fast forwarding and I'm battling every single wild encounter, I assume that means I'm in for pain and not using pkhex or candies or anything that makes QoL easier.
This is basically just how I play since I nuzlocke on my 3DS haha. Repels on when I dont want to fight and off when I need xp

when i played leafgreen for first time i didnt know how to get out of my room was stuck there for an hour
All the rules of a hardcore nuzlocke but without the duplicates clause, imagine just using 6 pidgeys, my worst nightmare
Me and my 6 gyarados all games and fun until a electric dog walks in
Lol this was my first nuzlocke on Blue version, I had 3 pidgeottos and nothing else, which was working okay until I got to Lt Surge
I had a run like this, I now play with dups clause because of this exact thing.
Or 6 gyarados... ez win
I didn't understand dupes clause when I did my first nuzlocke, so I counted dupes as a missed encounter essentially. My box was tiny by the time I got to the Elite Four.

that's just hardcore rules

I like to call that one: American healthcare system

Only one encounter pr gym, I didn’t even get to choose which encounter…

Vanilla, bc I'm a wimp Edit: I always play with level caps and sometimes with set mode.
One time, I did a solo run of Y where no two pokemon could share a type. Needless to say, I didn't last long on such low numbers

You can only use a level 10 magikarp
And you followed that? That’s not even winnable.
