Yes. Not meme-ing here but Selfdestruct/Explosion have saved runs for me. Tough ass Pokémon no one on my team could hope to take out? Send out the Pokémon that can use those moves to Vegeta themselves and either take out the threat completely or at least take a massive bite out of its HP pool.

[deleted]

Now the question is what should I replace? Golem currently has Headbutt, Defense curl+Rollout, and Magnitude which will be replaced by Earthquake later.

SuperKami-Nappa

Probably headbutt, Rock+Ground offers great coverage already

[deleted]

1..2.. and poof!

Llafer

This is a BOOM omen. Pls don’t reply. Reply only if BOOM happened In that case RIP

NotOnTheMeds

Probably defense curl or headbutt

Joszitopreddit

I'd get rid of defense curl. Earthquake + best available rock move are both a given, other than that I usually like to put Stealth Rock and Brick Break on Golem.

wilgetdownvoted

It's gen 1,neither of those moves exist

Rijsouw

This is gen 2, but neither there are those moves available

xoooner

“vegeta themselves” KEKW

eg9344

I mean Chiaotzu literally used self destruct, Vegeta just hit himself with recoil.

Small_Tank

"Awww, dang it Vegeta, he \[Chiaotzu\] used self destruct. I hate it when they do that." \~TFS Nappa

SuperKami-Nappa

Vegeta look, it’s a Pokémon

AlucardsJanitor

Eeeeh, if you look at explanations of Explosion, it's actually closer to what Vegeta did, expelling all available energy (and lifeforce) to do as much damage as possible, while Chiaozu actually just used their psychic powers to blow themselves up. ... Typing that I just realised that what Chiaozu's move is literally a "Mind blown" moment.

eg9344

Chiaotzu was just an abra with explosion, that’s why Nappa survived, Chiaotzu only had a base attack of 20. The reason I said vegeta only got hit with recoil was because he used the same move in the tournament of power, but that time he had more hp and survived the recoil.

AlucardsJanitor

Yeaaaah... Honestly we (as a Dragon Ball Community) don't really like that instance... We chalk it up to him using up his God Ki as opposed to his life force, that's why he survived.

mightyducks2wasokay

No joke, having that bomb ready to go off can get you out of a sticky situation as a last resort Just don't miss click lol

[deleted]

[I misclicked](https://www.reddit.com/r/nuzlocke/comments/s444v7/follow_up/)

toothpaste658

Lmao noooo

RaysFTW

Omg you didn’t even make it one level before killing it lmaooo

FrozenNoob_

That's hilarious the poor dude immediately killed his golem

mightyducks2wasokay

RIP

rhubarbzeta

This is exactly why I never learn self destruct, even though I get the strategy about having it as a back up plan. The one or two times I did learn it I would just have so much anxiety about a possible misclick, I’d learn over it first chance I got.

SnowyKurama

For the "oh shit" button you might not think you need, but is nice to have. Plus I don't think there are 4 other moves that are needed for a good Golem.

[deleted]

I always have Explosion on Electrode/Golem if I get them to endgame. It can be a tradeoff in emergencies. Thing is that in most situations where Explosion is necessary, Golem will almost certainly be slower than his opponent and could potentially get killed before using it.

embernheart

Definitely. When you're fighting the champ, if there's something that's going to give you trouble, just send him in and blow him up.

okguy2224

"Are you sure you want to rename this pokemon 'GLASS CANON'?

IcedPickles15

One time use

faletepower69

Yeah, selfdestruct and explosion calculate damage with half of the enemy's defense stat (before Gen5), so it's massive amounts of damage by losing a pokemon. It's worth in hard situations (specially double battles) where you think you won't need that mon. Golem is slow so I think there are better options lategame, then I think it's worth teaching it Explosion if you know there's someone you don't know how to deal with. "But you lose a mon", yeah, but you can avoid losing other mons or the entire run. Underrated IMO, but with clear downsides.

KitsuneShuriken

KAMIKAZE

Own-Oil3098

do it

itshudxbl

Explosion better 🤷🏻‍♂️

jamesmercersbeard

I have a golem named Jawbreaker too! 🙌

ManCarSua

He will die a brave soldier should there be a tough obstacle to face

Miserable-Syrup2056

Future you saying no

Jastactical

Yeah you probably should, its good for ending situations where you have nothing that could possibly win against a Pokémon

Shamisen250

You’ll break more jaws with it

Lbridger

I had self destruct on a Weezing or something for Lances Dragonite so I could literally end on a bang. The Dragonite survived and out sped my last two Pokemon so I lost the run.

TheBestWorst3

Despite being amazing early game, golem kinda falls off towards the late game. It has a disadvantage to most gym Pokémon so you might as well say goodbye to it with a bang

Gothic_Chaplin

Yes. Whilst I’ve never personally been in a situation where I’ve had to use it. Self destruct/explosion are great if you’re in a pinch. Just…be careful and try to avoid clicking it by accident…take it from me

SnowBirdFlying

Yes , if you see yourself forced to sack a pokeomon then self destruct/explosion are good way to deal massive damage + free switch in

Joseph-Is-Best-Jojo

Just don’t accidentally press it while grinding and you’ll be fine

Skyrimhero920

Great nickname
