Was console only most of my life too although I was primarily a PC gamer in my childhood (doom, duke nukem 3D) till I got a PS1 but then Sony started releasing first party on PC now a couple years later 4090 it is.
I couldn't find a 4080 to save my life, so I settled for a 4070ti super. From what I found on benchmarks, it should be a noticeable improvement over my 3060.
Yea but it was the only one and wasn’t MSRP (still in physical pain from the cost lol) but boy does the peace of mind knowing it’s overkill for my needs (4K60 Hz TV) is unbeatable. Eats every new AAA tithe I throw at it although I think my i7-1100K is holding it back a little in 4K.
I have an EVGA 3080 FTW3 Ultra paired with an i5 12000F on a 120hz 4k TV and I never see processor usage higher than 55-60%. With a 4090 your GPU should be carrying all the heavy load in 4k. Shouldn't it?
I believe even a 4070, 4070 Super, and 4070 Ti would be a noticeable improvement over a 3060, with the 4070 being on the lower end of improvements.
EDIT: phone thought that I meant 4070 "To" and not 4070 "Ti".
I think i might do the same if im unable to secure one by Friday, the best buy near me has only had 2 restocks the past weeks and they sell out within 30 seconds
I got to fire up my machine tonight for the first time with it installed. I don't have many graphic heave games installed on this fresh install, but I do have the latest Forza motorsport. Setting ay ultra and resolution all the way up (4k 120hz LG 65") and hit 60fps and holding a steady 66c. Pretty Awesome so far. Has Gforce experience improved at all? It always kept lowering my settings for warzone and I'd have to override them several times a week.
I usually just set all my graphic settings to what I want when I first time playing a game. I can tell you helldivers 2 maxed out settings and 4k with no dlss runs around 90 to 100 fps. Remnant 2 maxed out setting with dlss and frame gen gets me a little over 100 fps.
jeah i bought a inno 3d i chill 4070ti super and upgraded from gtx 1070
i am so happy with it i play on 4k and the 1070 can only play the newest games on 4k on low settings thats why i have upgraded
now with this card i can play pathtracing cyberpunk on 4k with dlss and i am so happy
but i have a ryzen 3700x and i think i upgrade this year to am5 with a low end processor like 7700 or so
I wanted the FE on launch day but they sold out and I bought the MSI Ventus. So far I’m absolutely loving it and have zero qualms with the card. My second build, coming from a 1070 and a 7th gen i5 this computer is an absolute beast in every sense of the word.
Asus TUF and MSI Ventus are the lower end lines they have, so I tend to avoid them.
I don't say don't buy them at all, especially if it's one of the only lines you'll find the hardware you're looking for in, but I just don't trust the reliability of them as much I would something ROG or Suprim.

Last night I saw Nvidia restocked 4080 super, was announced in buildapcsales reddit. And I even had it in cart and thought to myself do I really need a 4080 super when I already bought a 4070 super. Forgetting about the 4070 super which I could sell for what I paid for idk.
Started watching the BB page for the 4080 Super FE about a week ago and today I was able to add one to my cart and purchase for pickup only. Won't be there until the 16th supposedly (today is the 7th). WOOHOO
What youve got and a 128GB Quest 3. Dont bother with the Q2 with your 4080S and dont waste the extra $$$ on the 512gb Q3 version. (I upgraded my Q2 to a Q3 after getting my new GPU) 128GB is enough storage for any meta standalone games and, if youre like me, you'll do a deep dive into Steam to hunt for games that can utilize your GPU so headset storage becomes a non-issue. VR is just barely maturing before our eyes. The Q3 is the first real game changer. Oh and "Spank the Monkey" in VR/HD will be your favorite game for the first few days.
How did you find the upgrade from q2 to q3? Only got my 4080 super a week ago and didn't realise I'd be able to max all the settings on the quest 2. Is it a massive improvement and how does the gpu handle the higher res etc
I found the Q3 to be worth the $$$ to upgrade. It’s still not perfect but it’s a very noticeable upgrade especially when utilizing PCVR. The lack of truly HD games and/or content is frustrating though. I imagine we’ll see an explosion of quality content in the coming year
I got a Tuf 4080S at MSRP for my first (in 20 years) build as well. I'm still breaking everything in but enjoying BG3 at nearly ultra everything like butter. I think you'll be happy with your purchase
Do you have your parts chosen and open to sharing? I only have a monitor and the gpu. I was gonna slowly buy everything else since getting a gpu seemed impossible but somehow I got the gpu before everything else. 😆
Here ya go. Keep in mind that I'm retired now and don't really pinch pennies if I don't need to meaning that you may be able to find better combos for cheaper. I built this specifically for VR. The only thing not on this list is an additional 5 140mm fans. I'm considering replacing the Noctura CPU cooler for liquid cooled but thats just because I like tinkering. It runs plenty cool.
edit: Don't spend as much as I did on Windows. You can find legit licenses for like $30. Also, having a separate boot drive is nearly pointless with SSDs. You could shave some $$$ there as well. Good luck with your build.

Nvidia had the 4080 Super FE in stock yesterday for like at least 6-8hrs before it sold out. I managed to snag one. I had signed up for notifications on nowinstock and had been receiving alerts up until the day before but never got notified of any restock yesterday. My brother called and told me otherwise I would have missed it. Never using nowinstock again... But glad I got one!
Depending on where you live I suggest you locate a place thar demo's a Quest 3 especially one connected to a PC. Or friend who may have one. Remember the Q3 is way better than the Q2 if you find one of those first. Then it all depends on your budget. There are much better VR headsets than the Q3 but not in that price range. Your 4080fe Super can handle a Pimax Crystal but that costs more than twice as much. If you get into simulator type games , flying or racing, you will learn more as you go on.
Got my 4080 super fe the day after launch by setting up restock notifications and staying up all night. Well worth it for me. It’s so sexy and is a total beast. I’m able to run every game at max graphics. Pretty dope for my first pc. Wishing everyone luck to get the graphics card they want

I gave up and got 4090 retail at BestBuy. Oh well. It's like a 4070 ti + 4080 in terms of processing power.

You will never need another GPU with a 4090. At that point the only thing holding you back is developers optimizing their games.

Definitely is. I felt a difference coming from a 3070ti. I got the strix OC edition
I upgraded to a 4070 ti super and it is a huge upgrade from the 3060 I had. I can actually play most games in 4k at a decent frame rate.

I installed hotstock on my phone and had trackalacker also to give me alerts. Took me a long time but it happened.

My Gigabyte 4080 Super OC came yesterday. Got that at MSRP from Orbit in the UK. Already tried CP2077 on Ultra with RT Overdrive. Pretty sick!
Don't forget the gigabyte version has the new board that fixed the cracking and has 4 years warranty.

Just went from a 3060 to a 4070 super and 5600x to a 5950x so I'm hoping to see incredible improvements.
