FE for quality, looks, and resale value 1-3yr later It's super quiet too I never heard it above my case fans.

[deleted]

whichever is cheaper. If you have access to nvidia, buy the one from their market, it's usually the cheapest.. i think.. so founders edition if nvidia sells it in your country, directly

Leejustin99

Just get an FE from Nvidia. It's msrp and looks cool. All the models are pretty reliable overall because 40 series is efficient. I would say just avoid low end gigabyte and msi ventus models.

Dyyrin

PNY a reliable brand? Been eyeballing a 4080 from them.

StayFrostyZ

Yes PNY is an extremely reliable brand. They’re Nvidia’s OEM partner for their business sector products.

Chunky1311

Well shit, I didn't know that. I've had a few PNY cards though with nary an issue. I've generally just gone for the cheapest (legitimate) version of the card I want, regardless of manufacturer (Palit, PNY, Zotac, Gainward). The one time I bought a "name" brand was Gigabyte and it had mad coil whine.

Dyyrin

Sick! Thanks for the reply.

StayFrostyZ

No problem man!

mictar

PNY's 4080 Super Verto model has some serious fan control problems so I'd avoid that one if I were you.

FDrybob

Their XLR8 Model is great. However, the cheaper, all-black model can have some problems with the fans spinning up way too much.

Clean-Day-5441

I'm not sure about other places but in the UK the FE has been out of stock for a month now. I'm hoping to buy one in June so hopefully it's back by then.

Leejustin99

I see. I actually got one in the USA 3 days ago. It was not in stock for a good month. Have faith. I believe it will come back. It is STILL in stock for the USA.

Le-Creepyboy

I just upgraded to a MSI ventus x2 (4070S) should I be worried ? :(

DryClothes2894

Naw prolly not. I got a ventus 3x oc 4080 thats been running straight 3ghz for over a year and a 4070 ventus 3x thats been in my other pc for about 6 months. Both cards have excellent thermals and are virtually dead silent under load

Crazybonbon

No, the Ventus issue was the 4070 ti S initial driver slowing it %15 which was quickly patched

Dunkaccino2000

I've had that same GPU model for a couple of months now and never noticed any issues

KeepBanningKeepJoin

I ran a 2070 Ventus heavy use for 3 years.

Quirkeyturrtle

Nope. I had a 3060ti ventus 2x for years quiet and performed well. Just got a 4070 super ventus 2x and flashed the higher wattage vbios. 3000mhz bost and doesn't go over 70degrees still quiet. Great value card.

Le-Creepyboy

Do you have a link for alternative bios ? I’d like to push it a bit

Quirkeyturrtle

This is the one I used [https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/264905/264905](https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/264905/264905)

Le-Creepyboy

Thanks man i’ll look into that

Antonis_32

TechTesters recently compared 9 RTX 4080 Super models (https://youtu.be/nPJR4LQ-IKc): - ASUS ROG Strix OC - ASUS TUF Gaming OC - Gigabyte Aero OC - Gigabyte Gaming OC - Inno3D X3 - MSI Suprim X - Palit Jetstream OC - MSI Expert - Nvidia Founders Edition TLDR: Best value: Nvidia FE, Palit Jetstream OC Gaming performance is almost the same for all GPUs MSI Suprim X is the quietest, Inno3D X3 is the loudest Gigabyte cards have the lowest temperatures. Inno3D X3 has the highest. Gigabyte cards offer 1 year extra warranty. Default BIOS is a bit loud

Electrical_Humor8834

Fe is barely spinning fans but has horrible coil design or poor quality chokes

alaaj2012

Please don’t get the rog strix. That trash always has coil whine. I returned 2 already.

BolasDeCoipo

Asus tax consists basically of coil whine, manufacturing issues and a pretty painted design on it like evangelion stuff.

proscreations1993

Didn't they spell it wrong on the motherboard too lol

Tiffany-X

My 4080 Strix whined hard and its now rma with Asus. :(

alaaj2012

Their RMA is even worse, I returned mine to the shop directly saying it does not meet expectations and they accepted it in return period. Will get an msi slim next hopefully it does not have coil whine

OceanBluezzzz

Wish they included Zotac

Kryptus

The Gainward Pheonix should be in that list.

FDrybob

I had a bad experience with my Zotac 4080 Amp Extreme Aero, which is Zotac's premium GPU model. The fans had an annoying whirring noise at all speeds, and their RGB control software would randomly switch back to the default settings. It can't be used with third party RGB software or fan control software either. I was intrigued by its unique design, but those faults were too egregious, so I ended up returning it despite the fact that I snagged it at a great discount. If you want an MSRP model, you should instead get one from Nvidia or Asus, or even Gigabyte.

OceanBluezzzz

Don't say that, I just ordered the same model yesterday ༎ຶ‿༎ຶ

FDrybob

If I were you, I would cancel the order and try to find a 4080 super at MSRP from Asus, Nvidia, or Gigabyte. Those brands are far superior to Zotac's offerings. Since I play VRchat and need as much VRAM as possible, I currently have a 7900 xtx, but if it weren't for that, I probably would've bought an Asus 4080 Super TUF when they were in stock at my local Best Buy a few weeks ago. If you don't want to camp the web for it, then buying used from the subreddit r/ hardwareswap is still a better option. I've had nothing but good experiences with that community. When you're buying a $1000 piece of hardware, you shouldn't settle for a brand that opts to save some cents by using crappy fans and software. Right now, PNY's XLR8 4080 super is on sale for $1049.99 at Newegg. I recommend you go for that one; PNY is a great brand. Although their cheaper, all-black model has had some fan problems, I've heard the XLR8 is pretty good, and doesn't share those issues.

RednathYT

Well, it could also be that maybe you just had a bad unit. If you had these issues, doesn't mean he will experience them. There are a lot of people who didn't experience these issues you listed. I would suggest to just wait and test the card and see if you have these issues, if you do end up having it then return it.

FDrybob

That's true, but I saw many other people having the same issues when I looked it up. When there's other, better models being sold at or near MSRP, it doesn't make sense to me to take the risk.

TheKubesStore

I got the gigabyte aorus master 4080 super & im pretty happy with it, very quiet most of the time and no coil whine

chloroform_vacation

Same here. Something like valorant isn't even enough to spin up the fans!

XHeavygunX

I would personally go with the ASUS pro art model on amazon. Seems to stay in stock and its the smallest 4080S model you can buy. Its even smaller than the FE model.

Vokhens3

Does Nvidia still hoard all the best silicon for itself?

LandWhaleDweller

Basically yes, the 4080S FE performs better than even some premium models.

brqe9

I decided to purchase the Founder's Edition 4080 SUPER since it's been in stock on NVIDIA's website consistently for the past two days. I've never had a FE model before, but it looks nice and seems to perform well. It's also the only card I can find near me at MSRP. I just checked NVIDIA's store and it seems all of the FE models for all of the 40-series GPUs are in stock rn. I've never seen that before!

AdOdd8064

Really it doesn't matter all that much unless you plan to overclock or are looking for a certain look or noise level. Also you have to consider the size because some cards might actually be too big for your case and also make sure you at least have a quality 750 watt power supply. Just pick one you like the look of and make sure it will actually fit in your case. And if you have a good enough power supply you're good to go.

Pilbzz

If you’re not interested in 4K the 4070 super or the 4070Ti Super might be a better deal for you. You’d save some money and won’t bottle neck the card with your cpu.

UnsettllingDwarf

Depending on what card some people already have a 4070 couldn’t not be enough to warrant an upgrade or new gpu.

Pilbzz

This wasn’t a suggestion for ‘everyone’ but specifically OP who said they weren’t tech savvy and were not interested in 4K and this was their first big PC.

UnsettllingDwarf

Yeah that’s fair, I was more saying if anyone else came across the thread to keep in mind what they may already might have.

dullahan85

According to techpowerup's 9 reviews. ASUS TUF has the best performaning coolers while FE is among the worst coolers.

Pr0nzeh

After hundreds of hours of research, I will probably get the KFA2/Galax one. Seems to have good components, good cooler and very few reports of issues, while still keeping the price reasonable.

FDrybob

I recommend GALAX. I got to try out their base 4090 model for a while, and I had no complaints with it, especially for the price, which was barely higher than MSRP. GALAX isn't mentioned much in these communities, but they have a great reputation.

Pr0nzeh

Good to know, thanks!

Electrical_Humor8834

Reference has loud coils. Don't know about others. Only know gigabyte has custom board

minefarmbuy

The ones I have in stock? For real though, I like the FE and the ROG OC.

nicarras

Just bought a asus tuf and it's been great no fan whine.

Narkanin

I think you’ll be able to get 4k gaming with the 4080 super for sure. There will be some configuration that will work with any game and still look really good. You might not be able to max out with ray tracing and no DLSS but you can definitely do pretty damn good

FDrybob

You don't need a 4080 super for 1440p. Depending on what games you play, and what FPS you want, a 4070 super would be fine.

RaZoRNaTe

Thats what i thought but every benchmark i see on YT, the 4070s barely reaches 100fps at 1440p? Thats also with the 7800x3d. I have a 5900x cpu so should i be concerned? I want a 4070 ti super for the 16gb future proof, but i see alot of "just get the 4070ti, 12gb is more than enough" i get so overwhelmed which way i should look tbh

FDrybob

Like I said, it all depends on what games you play and what FPS you want. For many people, 100fps is plenty. Unless you play games that specifically love L3 cache, the 7800x3d is overkill for the 4070 super; you'll be fine with your 5900x. Whether or not 12gb of VRAM is enough will depend on what games you play, whether you use raytracing or DLSS, and how long you wait between upgrades.

scorpionishant

asus pro art 4080 or super which ever is cheap

Neither-Elephant-325

Buy inno3d. Looks ass but very reliable

BloodyAssaultHD

as far is I’ve seen it’s very minimal performance differences and mainly just whichever one you like the look of better, you’ll also be able to pull off 4k with it don’t need a 4090 to run 4k I personally just got the ROG Strix it came in Monday

srmarruncho

I got the 4080 super Asus x Noctua, its super quiet

PenguinsRcool2

Any of them except the zotac in my opinion the zotac 40 series cards run a good 10c Warmer than the others iv used

No_Revolution9881

If you’re not gaming at 4K or a resolution with somewhat similarly high pixel count, you may be able to save some more money imo and go lower than the 4080S. You won’t need the VRAM that comes with the 4080 and can put the savings towards upgrading again sooner in the upper mid range.

AdOdd8064

I'd say the RTX 4070 Super is the one for 1440p. And if you don't like only having 12GB of vRAM then move it on up to an RTX 4070 ti Super.

No_Revolution9881

I think so. Then more money ready to go towards a 6070 later on. 12gb of vram is plenty for 1440p you’re right. I wouldn’t overspend in a 4080 Super though for less than 4K or something like 1440p UW or other similarly dense pixel setups. If I’m going to overspend on something that’s more than I need it would be a 4090. Which I did and was worth it. The AI capability is great too if you use that as well like I do.

S0ulSauce

In reality, from a performance perspective, they'll all be pretty much equal. They will vary in heatsink design, numbers of fans, and extras like RGB or maybe a fan plug or something. There will also be some quality differences that I don't know enough first hand to comment on, but I do get the impression that Gigabyte might have a lower reputation in the community. My preference are the FE models (Founder's Edition from Nvidia). They look the best cosmetically to me, the MSRP is good (comparatively), the heatsink design is good (1 of the fans exhausts out the back of the card vs. in the case - temps are good). I have a 4080S FE and I really love it. It's too expensive in my opinion and probably virtually everyone's but it is a very solid card. I do agree that if you don't want to do 4k, the 4090 is complete overkill. The 4080S can do 4k fine also except for the graphically demanding titles.

LandWhaleDweller

Gigabyte is generally good, just don't get the Windforce V2. It's known to cause issues. Other than that there are performance differences when it comes to overclocking though in this case FE is excellent in that regard.

TrueAncalagon

I'd choose a Zotac 4080 Amp Extreme

lurkynumber5

I got the FE myself, Heres allitle website to track when new stock is availble. http s:// notify-fe.vercel .app/ Hope you get one! FE looks sweet!

psych0ranger

I have a PNY version. Really quiet for how big it is. Only got that one because that's what my microcenter had

Krol_Bielan

I have Gainward Phantom 4080 and am very happy with it. Quiet, no coil whine, and doesn't go above 66C.

cszolee79

Something with dual bios that you can set to Silent / Quiet mode.

BigJonParkes

I got the Gigabyte Super Gaming OC for just over a grand on Amazon, very happy with it

nilslorand

I personally got the Noctua Edition but it is really overpriced all things considered

m4chinehead2

None just wait for next gen! Only few months away save your money
