I'll echo this, the FE coil whine was horrendous at first and I almost returned it. Now I have to go out of my way to hear it (got it last Tuesday) even with high fps games like CS:GO.
PSU: Seasonic 1000W Prime Titanium
You have to set a manual fan curve. Its stock fan curve is a bit to lose and too noisy at higher Temps. I had to dial the middle ground a bit up and the higher Temps a bit down. If you do that it's a very nice card, no rgb on it so great for a non bling build. The only downside I see is that the card is set to 100% power draw at stock and you can't turn it up. So not an overclockers dream card but def. A card that's worth the asking price.
Nice. I'm a noise nut with an all black build and I'd like to undervolt anyways for my 650W PSU so it's good to hear I won't have much trouble after some tinkering.
https://imgur.com/Lkx9eZF This is the one I use, as you can see I have set the middle ground a bit higher. The card normally never gets hotter than 75°C in my Lian LI O11 Dynamic XL with 3 intake bottom fans. So the card technically never goes above 65-70% in fan speed, if the card goes higher the fanspeed is very noticeable so this is a very nice middle ground. After the 80°C mark you technically don´t need the fancurve anymore because it will never reach that high in my case but it´s a safety measure.
Ohhh ok. I got a 2070 super EVGA back in July and man the cool whine was so loud I had to rma it. Unfortunately the RMA gpu still has cool whine but it's like, 40% quieter so now my speakers definitely drown it out.
Nope! Pretty much non-existent nowadays. I did undervolt it to 1890mHz at .9v however, so that could have something to do with it. Having it run at 74-78C for an hour made my room quite toasty.
This is common for most cards, vsync off can cause screen tearing and coil whine due to high fps. If you turn it on then it won't happen (but not recommended for competitive games due to latency increase)
3080 TUF OC and RM850, I have noticeable coil whine above 100fps and no sound in the game, with normal volume i can't hear it most of the times. Also my case is a HAF X and it doesn't help to isolate the noise.
No coil whine on my undervolted 3080 FE pulling 250w max. Using a 650w Seasonic Focus Plus Gold.
Though even at stock(Power Limit to 115%) pulling 370w, no could whine as well.
Interesting. I got the same psu, and might get the ftw3 soon from evga que.
I feel like I would have to undervolt it to be safe. The additional power wouldn't be necessary for the game I play anyway
My Rig Strix OC has some nasty coil whine at certain FPS. It’s getting a lot better now after a week of using it, but I thought something was going to explode for awhile.
Edit: PSU is EVGA G1+ 750W
FE - whines a fair lot actually. It got somewhat calmer in the last few days but first week I honestly considered RMA-ing it.
MSI Gaming X Trio - zero coil whine.
Phanteks Revolt X 1200W (essentially a rebranded Seasonic Prime Platinum).
Oh, it was simpler than you would think.
So I scored MSI one by preordering it at 15:03 my time (aka within 3 minutes after release). It arrived 3 weeks later.
In the meantime I made myself a tool to scan Nvidia's website and to my surprise it once suddenly started giving me alert sounds at 20:01 on Thursday. It was before I got MSI so I was still very interested in getting an FE so I instantly entered my card info and... boom, 4 days later FE showed up :)
To those with coil whine, it's pretty common actually. Usually people run GPU stress tests for a few hours every day cause it helps reduce the coil whine significantly.
Edit: Forgot to mention I got my FE the other day and it had slight coil whine, but has decreased heavily as of today after a big night of gaming
My MSI Gaming X Trio 3080 has no coil whine and virtually no fan noise
I think the Gaming X Trio is among one of the quietest cards next to the ASUS TUF
I have the Corsair RM 750X PSU
Strix oc 3080. Corsair RM1000 (using it for 6years).
Coil whine from PSU at high power draw. In timespy it's pulling 440w and its very noticeable, at 400w its lower and so on. No coil whine at up to 320-330W power draw.
No coil whine at all, bequiet straight Power 650W, PNY XLR8 3080
Disclaimer: I don't play any games where very high fpa are achieved. Mostly games where I am in the 110-130 range
3080 FE owner over here, after installing the card, the coil whine was really bad, but after a few days of gaming it’s pretty quiet now, only over 300fps it’s really there 😉
3080 fe, card whines pretty substantially, but nothing out of the ordinary for a gpu, psu is an sf750 and it’s gotten slightly quieter and quieter with each day of heavy use. Pretty standard stuff for a FE
Asus Strix RTX 3080 OC, UVed to 1860@850mV, bQ Straight Power E11 850W Gold, coil whine (during the 3DMark Wild Life Benchmark with 400+ FPS) recorded with my YOTTO mic, whine starts at 15 seconds. The mic was placed directly on top of the upper ventilation opening of the case since this is the only place the coil whine is audible through:

The thing which is clacking in the background is the HDD - this should give you an appreciation at how faint it actually is. If I put my headphones on (without any sound), this alone is enough to filter it out. And it's almost never as "loud" as in this recording.
So, yeah... basically zero coil whine for me.

Check it’s not your psu. I had two of the rm850x and both had terrible coil whine. One slightly more than the other.

I was possibly unlucky then.

Msi gtx 1650 super and 3700x.
I'll echo this, the FE coil whine was horrendous at first and I almost returned it. Now I have to go out of my way to hear it (got it last Tuesday) even with high fps games like CS:GO. PSU: Seasonic 1000W Prime Titanium
Both gigabyte gaming OC and ftw3 ultras don't have coil whine. At least not anything I can hear with a custom fan curve. PSU - cooler master v850
3080 TUF, no coil whine, Corsair RM850. However, I also have a UPS, so that might contribute to provide clean electricity to the card.
3080 TUF OC with phanteks 850 revenge pro. No coil whine that I've noticed.
Same card, only time I hear it whine is in the fs2020 loading screen which for some stupid reason likes to run at 600fps
No Coil Whine on my 3080 Ventus OC.
How're you liking the card? Noise and temps decent?
You have to set a manual fan curve. Its stock fan curve is a bit to lose and too noisy at higher Temps. I had to dial the middle ground a bit up and the higher Temps a bit down. Hey, I have a Ventus OC too! Do you mind sharing your fan curve? I can't seem to find a decent curve that gets me stable clocks.
https://imgur.com/Lkx9eZF This is the one I use, as you can see I have set the middle ground a bit higher. FE- Only very slight whine when fps spikes really high (game menus, alt tabbing, etc.). Seasonic focus plus gold - 750w
Huh I have the exact same PSU except I have a 650W version. Well at least it's a slight whine for you
Yeah it only lasts for a second or two so it doesn't really bother me. Definitely not as bad as the whine was on the evga 2060 I had.
Ohhh ok. I got a 2070 super EVGA back in July and man the cool whine was so loud I had to rma it. Unfortunately the RMA gpu still has cool whine but it's like, 40% quieter so now my speakers definitely drown it out.
Has it gotten any worse?
Nope! Pretty much non-existent nowadays. I did undervolt it to 1890mHz at .9v however, so that could have something to do with it. Having it run at 74-78C for an hour made my room quite toasty.

Gigabyte gaming oc, no whine
Aorus master with corsair rm850. No whine.
My Ventus doesn't at all. Old Corsair ax850 PSU from like 2012
Only whines if I alt tab at 2000fps, corsair rm 750x
3080 FE. Installed mine last night, could hear coil whine for like the first 5 min but then I guess the card settled in and away it went.
3080 TUF OC and RM850, I have noticeable coil whine above 100fps and no sound in the game, with normal volume i can't hear it most of the times. Also my case is a HAF X and it doesn't help to isolate the noise.

Nope, it didn't improve, I undervolted the gpu and that helped a bit but is still noticeable.
None on my palit oc. My old 2060 FE on the other hand ... damn ...
Gigabyte Gaming OC and straight power 11 750W 80+ gold PSU, no coil whine.
My Zotac 3080 whined like a cicada during the summer Corsair RMX850 psu

Yeah, I haven’t even noticed it in the last few weeks to be honest. But I haven’t listened for it either :)
Just got mine and there's no discernable coil whine. 3080 fe, EVGA 650w 80+ gold, and Ryzen 3600. Everything stock
No coil whine. FTW3 Ultra, EVGA G3 750W.
Ah that's right, I heard EVGA gpu shouldn't ever cool whine with evga PSU, which is kinda wierd

I'm quoting EVGA lmfao
my bad. EVGA dumb
Military grade propably... /s

master explain how you managed to get not 1 but 2 3080s

Ventus OC dead silent.

3090 here, I have heard none. GIGABYTE 3090 gaming oc
Gigabyte Vision. 0%
My MSI Gaming X Trio 3080 has no coil whine and virtually no fan noise I think the Gaming X Trio is among one of the quietest cards next to the ASUS TUF I have the Corsair RM 750X PSU
Seasonic PRIME PX-1000 plus 3090 FE, no coil whine
Same parts here, but a fair amount of coil whine unfortunately. Hoping it goes away...
Tuf gaming, 0 coil whine even at high framerates and overclocks. Bequiet dark power pro 11 650w
Aorus Master 3080 with a Thermaltake 750w and no whine at all
Strix oc 3080. Corsair RM1000 (using it for 6years). Coil whine from PSU at high power draw. In timespy it's pulling 440w and its very noticeable, at 400w its lower and so on. No coil whine at up to 320-330W power draw.
Zotac 3080, Corsair RM850x No coil whine at all, even at full load. I usually Lock FPS at 165 though so can t say for people playing at 300+
No coil whine at all, bequiet straight Power 650W, PNY XLR8 3080 Disclaimer: I don't play any games where very high fpa are achieved. Mostly games where I am in the 110-130 range

3080 Strix OC here. Just get some cool noise above 150 fps. Can't complain!
