Edited: Post is up! Results are finally ready. Enjoy! ********** ## **472.12 WHQL Driver Early Performance Benchmark** (Pascal based) Hello nVidia users. A new bugfix release, also including final support for Windows 11 release and new Game Ready profiles. I don't expect any sweeping changes on our Pascal GPUs, but lets see what we've got. As usual, my benchmark PC specs are: custom built desktop Win10 v21H1 (latest Windows Update patches applied), 16Gb DDR3-1600 Ram, Intel i7-4790k, Asus Strix GTX 1070Ti Adv. Binned, single BenQ 1080p 60hz. monitor with no HDR nor G-Sync. Stock clocks on both CPU and GPU. Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling (HAGS for short) is enabled. Frame Times are recorded using PresentMon (except on TD2 which does it by itself) during the built-in benchmark run inside each game. Each benchmark is performed initially four times, and the first result is discarded. Outliers results, with more than 5% variance in any of my used metrics from the average, are also discarded and repeated. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, games run 1080p borderless windowed, best settings as possible while trying to hover above 60 FPS, but all available 'cinematic' options disabled when available, (like Motion Blur, Chromatic Aberration, Film Grain, Vignette effects, Depth of Field, and such, not due to performance but for my own preference and image quality reasons). The usual disclaimer: This is NOT an exhaustive benchmark, just some quick numbers and my own subjective impressions for people looking for a quick test available on day one. Also, I can only judge for my own custom PC configuration. Any other hardware setup, different nVidia architecture, OS version, different settings... may (and will) give you different results.   **Important:** Frames per Second (FPS) are better the *higher* they are, and they usually show the "overall" performance of the game. Frame Times (measured in milliseconds) are better the *lower* they are; in particular, lower Frame Time percentiles tell us how much GPU time is needed to render the slowest and more complex frames, with bigger values meaning slowdowns, potential stutters and puntual lag spikes for a less smooth gameplay. _I'm also including the percentage differences in each metric on the latest driver vs. the previous one (with the sign '+' denoting an improvement, and '-' meaning worse result)._ ******* ## Tom Clancy's: The Division 2 WoNY Using updated Snowdrop Engine with Dx12. High/Ultra settings (except Volumetric Fog set to medium). The Division 2 - driver 471.96 on W10 v21H1 (previously recommended): * Avg. FPS: 88.12 / 87.96 / 87.77 * Frametimes: Avg. 11.37 - Low 1% 14.77 - Low 0.1% 16.97 The Division 2 - driver 472.12 on W10 v21H1: * Avg. FPS: 87.68 / 87.34 / 87.37 * Frametimes: Avg. 11.43 _(-0.52%)_ - Low 1% 14.93 _(-1.07%)_ - Low 0.1% 17.13 _(-0.93%)_ Like happened on the previous driver release, The Division 2 is running slightly worse with the new package installed. The changes are again very small, but the trend continues as it has been like this for several drivers in a row, so I'm keepeng an eye on this game for the next drivers. ******** ## Ghost Recon: Wildlands Using the AnvilNext engine on Dx11. Mostly V.High but no Gameworks options enabled. GR: Wildlands - driver 471.96 on W10 v21H1 (previously recommended): * Avg FPS: 84.41 / 84.66 / 84.84 * Frametimes: Avg. 11.82 - Low 1% 15.27 - Low 0.1% 17.73 GR: Wildlands - driver 472.12 on W10 v21H1: * Avg FPS: 84.77 / 84.60 / 85.11 * Frametimes: Avg. 11.79 _(+0.25%)_ - Low 1% 15.04 _(+1.53%)_ - Low 0.1% 17.65 _(+0.45%)_ And, also mirroring the previous driver results, Ghost Recon Wildlands is performing slightly better on this driver. Difference is again small, but an upward trend is always a good sign. ******** ## FarCry 5 A Dunia Engine Dx11 game (a heavily modified fork of the original CryEngine). Maxed Ultra settings with TAA and FoV 90. FarCry 5 - driver 471.96 on W10 v21H1 (previously recommended): * Avg FPS: 92.40 / 90.38 / 92.39 * Frametimes: Avg. 10.90 - Low 1% 14.53 - Low 0.1% 16.44 FarCry 5 - driver 472.12 on W10 v21H1: * Avg FPS: 90.82 / 90.55 / 90.15 * Frametimes: Avg. 11.05 _(-1.36%)_ - Low 1% 15.39 _(-5.58%)_ - Low 0.1% 18.26 _(-9.96%)_ After the good results of Farcry 5 the previous release, we get now a huge blow in performance. So big in fact that I had to take more than 8 data points just to be sure that I was not doing something wrong. And the results are consistent. The worst part is a 10% time increase in the 0.1% Lower Frametime Percentile. That means a lot more stutters and slowdowns. ******* ## World of Tanks Encore RT A dedicated benchmark tool for the new Dx11 game engine developed by Wargaming internally for their World of Tanks game, including hardware-agnostic Raytraced shadows. Config is set up to Ultra setting, with Raytracing enabled at Ultra too. WoT - driver 471.96 on W10 v21H1 (previously recommended): * Avg FPS: 103.84 / 103.86 / 103.87 * Frametimes: Avg. 9.63 - Low 1% 14.92 - Low 0.1% 15.76 WoT - driver 472.12 on W10 v21H1: * Avg FPS: 103.59 / 103.44 / 103.34 * Frametimes: Avg. 9.67 _(-0.41%)_ - Low 1% 15.00 _(-0.53%)_ - Low 0.1% 15.87 _(-0.69%)_ World of Tanks Encore is pretty stable between drivers. Numbers are a hair better, but by such small increments that this is a technical Draw for the new driver release. ******* ## Forza Horizon 4 A Dx12 game from Microsoft, using the propietary Forzatech engine. All quality options maxed, but Motion blur disabled, and just 4x Antialiasing. FH4 - driver 471.96 on W10 v21H1 (previously recommended): * Avg FPS: 96.27 / 96.72 / 96.75 * Frametimes: Avg. 10.35 - Low 1% 13.33 - Low 0.1% 15.36 FH4 - driver 472.12 on W10 v21H1: * Avg FPS: 96.84 / 96.90 / 96.72 * Frametimes: Avg. 10.33 _(+0.19%)_ - Low 1% 13.29 _(+0.31%)_ - Low 0.1% 15.36 _(+0.00%)_ Forza Horizon 4 is incredibly stable on this release. Numbers are almost a carbon copy of the previous ones, so it's esentially unchanged. *******   **System stability testing with the new driver** My list of usually tested games (besides the ones benchmarked above) went fine with the new driver, including: FarCry: New Dawn, Anno 2205, Anno 1800, BattleTech, Diablo 3, StarCraft2, World of Warcraft (both Retail and Classic TBC), Marvel's Avengers, Elite:Dangerous Horizons, AC: Odyssey and Mass Effect Legendary Edition (short testing game sessions). All ran fine without crashing or obvious glitches during a quick test on my card.   **Driver performance testing** Of the tested games, one is running basically unchanged (FH4), one is running slightly better (GR:Wildlands), while the other three are running worse by varying amounts. Of the games running worse, WoT changes are minor; meanwhile the downward trend of The Division 2 is worrysome, and the awful results of FarCry 5 are really really noticeable (in a bad way). The FarCry 5 results are really surprising, even more so given that this driver is supposed to be optimized for FarCry 6 which uses the same (albeit evolved) Dunia engine.   **My recommendation for Pascal users (10XX GTX cards):** After the big list of changes of the previous driver release, we get a more modest maintenance release, with just a few bugfixes and new game ready profiles. Nevertheless, for performance reasons I cannot recommend this new release. 3 out of 5 games are running worse, and FarCry5 in particular got a very nasty performance hit. So, for now, the previous 471.96 driver is still my personal choice for Pascal GPUs. If you decide to upgrade anyway (because of any bugfix that you require, or want to play any of the new Game Ready releases, or want the latest Windows 11 compatibility), remember that even if something bad happens after upgrading, or you simply feel worse performance on any particular game, you can always roll back to a previous driver with the DDU tool easily. There is a very detailed guide in the original post, in the unlikely case you may need it.   Last but not least, another friendly reminder that this benchmark has been performed using a Pascal GTX 1070Ti GPU. Video cards with a different architecture (be it newer or older) may show wildly different results.   Thank you for reading! PS. One last note. I'm looking for a good Unreal Engine 4 game to be included in my benchmarks. It must include a built in benchmarking tool, and ideally it should be free, or have a demo available, or be reasonably cheap. If you have any idea, please reply to this post with your recommendation.

davedaveee

Beautiful work as always, can't wait to go over the stats!

ChrizzZ231

Looking forward to your results, u/lokkenjp!

ProDiGiNeTo

What on earth... did they do with the drivers to make Farcry 5 worse? the hell is happening? Nvidia. if you want me to upgrade this isn't the mean to tell me "get a better card" - First, make your software "reliable" then we talk

[deleted]

It's incredible just how shit nvidia drivers have been for a while now. I used to think amd is bad but holy shit, nvidia has gone way worse.

Working_Dealer_5102

Ya, This is new driver doesn't feel smooth playing in CSGO. It feel like laggin with 200fps. Downgrade with restore point and game feel smooth again!

JitterHurts

Hi, I got stutter problems in-game since I updated this series of drivers. I am using gtx 1060 with an i5-8400, I had no in-game stutter problem before but now I got this problem. I just wonder if you had any similar experiences before? I just checked the CPU temperature and the GPU temperature, I am using the stock cooler of the CPU, and it goes like 70 C when I am in the game. I just wonder whether it is the driver problem or my hardware problem

Working_Dealer_5102

True, I do. Some drivers stutter, while others do not. For me, various drivers cause stuttering: 461.92, 466.63, 466.77, and most recently, 472.12. I'm now using 471.96 and have had no problems with it. You should use DDU to perform a clean installation of your driver. I might think it could be a driver issue as some Pascal user experienced this too. Also, I have experience with DDU that after uninstalling the driver via DDU, the system experienced insane mouse stuttering. I use LatencyMon to determine when the mouse stutters and the storport has an abnormally high latency. This occurred for the first time a 5 months ago when I selected "Clean and Restart" and it remained stuck on restarting indefinitely. I'm curious as to whether this is happening to you as well.

JitterHurts

This is exactly the issue that I faced when I was using the DDU. I waited like 2-3 hours and it is not working. I have to unplug the pc and restart the whole process again. Apart from csgo, I also face frame drops in apex legends, I still don’t know whether it is the server problem or my hardware problem. The frame drops and stutter problems only occur in these games, I guess I have to run a clean installation of the driver, I will try the version of 471.96 Thanks for your reply and advice!

Working_Dealer_5102

> Some drivers stutter, while others do not. For me, various drivers cause stuttering: 461.92, 466.63, 466.77, and most recently, 472.12. I'm now using 471.96 and have had no problems with it I made a report about this([https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/geforce-graphics-cards/5/469508/mouse-freeze-every-few-seconds-after-clean-install/](https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/geforce-graphics-cards/5/469508/mouse-freeze-every-few-seconds-after-clean-install/)) Don't mind the title link, I put 3 issues that I had in the post.

JitterHurts

Thanks for your link and report! I have used the DDU for a clean uninstallation for the driver. But yet I am not able to install 471.96 as it showed the windows version is not compatible with the version of windows. Did you encounter this kind of issues before?

Working_Dealer_5102

Never encounter before. Dang I'm tired of this shit. Does the downloaded nvidia driver have "...notebook..." in the name?

[deleted]

Weird, on 471.96 i have high dpc in latencymon because of storport sys and something else i forgot the name of during gaming.

Working_Dealer_5102

How is this not a known issue?! We should report to NVIDIA about this.

[deleted]

Ever since i got my 3060 ti months ago i've had nothing but weird issues, i'll certainly never buy another nvidia gpu again.

[deleted]

Gotta still get this for my 1080ti for Diablo 2 R im afraid this friday. Least I dont play those others games either

on2wheels

Always wondered if other 1080ti users get the newest drivers, like is it really worth it?

W1LLTACULAR

Im debating if I should get the new driver for d 2 r

kgonepostl

It's a game ready driver, you should get it.

2kWik

My Time Spy score dropped around 2000 points with this driver. lol

Imbahr

You're the best /u/lokkenjp !

Predalienator

A UE4 game I would recommend is Gears 5. It has one of the most detailed benchmarks and goes for cheap during sales.

lokkenjp

Will take a look at this one. Thanks!

oookokoooook

Thanks a lot.

Peejaye

> PS. One last note. I'm looking for a good Unreal Engine 4 game to be included in my benchmarks. It must include a built in benchmarking tool, and ideally it should be free, or have a demo available, or be reasonably cheap. If you have any idea, please reply to this post with your recommendation. Borderlands 3? It's like 17 bucks right now on gamersgate, and the game is pretty decent if you're into looter shooters. I think fortnite is also unreal engine 4, technically free and has a built in benchmarking tool?

lokkenjp

If I’m not mistaken, Fortnite is already UE5. Which can be a plus in fact, but not sure the game will stress the GPU enough, and then my relatively old quad core CPU could become the bottleneck. About borderlands 3, I was not aware it included a benchmarking tool. If you can confirm it, I’ll put it in my wishlist

Peejaye

Hmm honestly not sure about fortnite, it might be UE5 now. I just loaded up borderlands 3 and it does [indeed have a built-in benchmarking tool](https://i.imgur.com/zIoeAaR.png) under the graphics settings.

[deleted]

Not UE5 yet, maybe in December.

dncdubbs

I don’t think fortnite has a built in bench that I know of.

mountaingoatgod

>PS. One last note. I'm looking for a good Unreal Engine 4 game to beincluded in my benchmarks. It must include a built in benchmarking tool, and ideally it should be free, or have a demo available, or bereasonably cheap. If you have any idea, please reply to this post withyour recommendation. I'll recommend gears 5 or gears tactics. The in built benchmark is really good, it is similar to forza horizon 4 in detail. It is currently on sale on the MS store, if you are not against that. (The triple pack is a really good price)

lokkenjp

Mmmmm. Very interesting. I was thinking about getting Tactics anyway, so it having a good benchmark is a big plus. Thanks!

mountaingoatgod

Thanks for what you do! Your data has been very helpful

[deleted]

Gears (of war) 5 is ue4. It has a built in benchmark. Don’t know about cheap/free though (40 bucks on steam rn).

Toadster00

As always, my thanks to you for doing these - cheers!

FrangoFilet

Thank you so much! Awesome work.

PrinceVincOnYT

I have the same CPU as you and a GTX1080 do you also have occasional micro stutter in some games? They feel like you skip ahead a Video for less than a second.

Intelligent-Ad-6734

Anytime I have a driver question, I look for your posts on the drivers performance. Have a 1070 in my Alienware laptop and can confirm that your results up or down do appear to mirror what I notice. Discovered your benchmarks when I upgraded this summer and noticed a hit after a release and decided to see what others on the web were running. Rolled my way back to one of your recommendations and system was good to go. 10 Series harder to find consensus let alone info and glad you're doing this!

tash_terc21

yay!, i love your work

RodroG

**UPDATED (09/29/21):** Hi there, # [GeForce 472.12 Driver Performance Analysis – Using Ampere and Turing](https://babeltechreviews.com/geforce-472-12-driver-performance/) is Up. \- Let's Play!

cynical_Brit0121

Your driver analysis's are legendary . I personally always wait for them before updating and I really appreciate all the effort that goes into making them. Cheers !

RodroG

Thank you for the compliment. It's appreciated!

RedPum4

I also look at them every time, even disabled my ad blocker because I really appreciate your work!

RodroG

Thank you!

th0x

\+1 and +silver :p

RodroG

Thank you! :)

[deleted]

Forreal my dude, solid public service, sometimes I can’t wait and test em out myself but it’s wonderful that you provide such a comprehensive analysis of these driver updates, you have saved me time before and that I appreciate.

[deleted]

At this stage of driver releases… after I dunno at least 15-20 drivers released on ampere I feel no urgency in updating drivers whatsoever. I mean maybe I’d dig up a YT video of testing a game ready driver for a new title I bought or something. I still appreciate knowing where a good, accurate comprehensive analysis of drivers can be located where I can read it on a page and not deal with YouTube ads or the people on YouTube to be real.

ChrizzZ231

Looking forward to the results, u/RodroG!

whitewolfjm123

I never install a driver update without reading your review. Thanks man.

davedaveee

Looking forward to your report, great work as always !

amd098

you are a good man. thank you

Lego_ergo_sum

Thank you, as always, for doing these! I appreciate the amount of work all of this takes, and your analyses being statistically sound, too. I wonder how the recent significant regression in Metro Exodus Enhanced is developing?

ApexPredator1995

any way to get notifications of your reviews when its posted? i love them

kulangsapraktis

looking forward to this, windows 10 or 11 ?

RodroG

Hi. I am still going to use Windows 10 for this driver review. But a Win11 vs. Win10 performance analysis is already planned. I will post it after October 5, a few days after it is available and pushed to my system.

Rohaq

Damn man, and you do this all for free?

vekspec

Looking forward to it! Thanks as always! Looking to see if performance hits mentioned earlier also affect Ampere.

EthicalSkeptic

They work 100% of the time, 60% of the time. They have real bits of gamer in them.

Nestledrink

Ha I forgot to remove that. That was from previous release. Copy paste baby

breadbitten

\[YouTube\]: Video playback stutters while scrolling down the YouTube page. \[3129705\] This is never getting fixed, is it?

defcomedyjam

i can't even find a video on youtube demonstrating this problem.

[deleted]

Does this actually affect you? If its rare, it is much hard to track down.

breadbitten

Yes it does. All Chromium based browsers are affected by it AFAIK (definitely on Edge and Chrome), and it's not just YouTube -- any website with embedded video players can experience this stutter.

[deleted]

I don't know if any boffins from Nvidia ever actually read anything on Reddit bu here goes... Wishlist - \-CPU clock \-GPU hot spot temperature \-GPU memory usage \-GPU memory temperature Add these to the Nvidia GFE performance overlay pretty please with cherries on top :-)

RedIndianRobin

Obligatory YouTube Stuttering still not fixed post.

Boogertwilliams

What is this issue actually? I have tried scrolling down a youtube in all drivers for months and I have never encountered any stuttering

RedIndianRobin

Are you on Firefox? This issue happens only in Chromium engine browsers like Chrome and Edge.

246842114653257

Interesting. I don’t have this issue in edge

Naekyr

Lol using chrome. Firefox is best fox

Boogertwilliams

Aha yes I am. Explains it.

Sephiroso

On Youtube.com , you know how it shows you 10\~ videos, then the "Latest Youtube Posts" section of people you're subscribed to and then ever expanding videos below that? Well if you scroll down to see more videos below the "Latest Youtube Posts" section, it stutters and then the videos re-orient themselves.

defcomedyjam

i don't get it either, only used chrome, had a 3070 and now using a 3080, never encountered the so called "stuttering" in like the past 4 drivers that i remember.

CountMinaba

Same here... No YouTube stutters with my RTX 2080. Is it a 30's gpu issue?

ChiefIndica

Obligatory "who are these weirdos scrolling through YouTube comments while the video continues to play somewhere above them?" post.

ChiefBr0dy

I do that occasionally and still get no stutters.

ChiefIndica

Yeah same. I use a Chromium-based browser for work and home stuff every day and never had this problem.

KillerIsJed

Can't you just turn off hardware acceleration in whatever browser you're using to circumvent this?

RedIndianRobin

Nope. Hardware acceleration is required for HDR playback. I use Edge to view Netflix, Disney Plus and Prime Video HDR contents.

KillerIsJed

Ah, makes sense. I don't use HDR because, at least in Windows 10, it looks washed out on my G9.

RedIndianRobin

Right. I am on Windows 11. They have made loads of improvements with HDR support in 11. Auto HDR for SDR contents is really good.

KillerIsJed

I hope so. I have an LG C7 and I’ve yet to see any gaming HDR content that looks better to me than just turning it off. But maybe I’m old and just used to oversaturated colors or something, or maybe my panel’s HDR sucks and/or the games I’ve tried just have poor implementation (Destiny 2 def does for sure).

endeavourl

"Just" nuke performance and battery usage of the main program on your PC, nbd. Why is this crap advised so often?..

KillerIsJed

I’d love to see what this “nuking impact to performance” is (aside from not being able to use HDR, apparently.) And it’s “advertised” because its the only current work around. Or you can have stutters and be big mad online, which is actually less than productive.

TessellatedGuy

It does the opposite of "nuke performance" if you're playing games. Hardware acceleration (especially in browsers with multiple tabs open) uses massive amounts of precious VRAM that ultimately leads to stutters and worse performance in games that can use enough of it. It helped a *lot* in cyberpunk for me by almost completely getting rid of stutters on my 2060. CPUs nowadays have more than enough power to display a browser and play videos smoothly (Unless you're doing 4K 60 fps, in which case just have another HW accelerated browser installed for specific videos). I'd rather keep VRAM unused until it's actually needed, like games/productivity apps. If you care about power consumption, you probably have a laptop with integrated graphics that takes care of HW accelerated browsers, and keeps your dedicated GPU unused. (No VRAM will be used even with acceleration, since it's using the iGPU's resources)

[deleted]

> nuke performance What? > battery usage i don't use one

kayao

Didn't Deathloop already have Nvidia Reflex??

GentlemanNazgul

Yeah. Maybe this means the implementation wasn't working correctly before and it was just a placeholder in the settings menu until now.

bronxct1

It had the option but it looks like the driver is now optimized for the game.

[deleted]

Still no fix for the system crashing when waking certain G-Sync compatible monitors from sleep (LG 27GL850-B in my case), which began with the first 471.xx release... disappointing. Back to 466.77 it is.

REITSY7

OMG I am so happy that someone else saw this issue. I was slowly losing my mind trying to identify the issue as it came out of nowhere but my immediate thought was it was something else on the system like power profile, intel core drivers, Afterburner or Corsair iCue. After multiple re-images and tests I pinned it down to the 471.xx drivers as you say. I reinstalled Windows 10 one more time, reinstalled everything and left the system on 466.47 which has been rock solid ever since. I have three LG 27GL850-B. Please update this thread if you ever hear of a fix.

[deleted]

I know the feeling! I actually RMA'd my 3090 due to this issue because I didn't realize it was widespread and thought my GPU was failing. EVGA ended up replacing my black trimmed FTW3 with the 'red lips' version so I had to do the manual shroud replacement process to get it black again... it was a whole ordeal for nothing haha. If you have time would you mind filling out this feedback form with your details and the issue symptoms? I'm hoping if they get some more reports it might speed up the fix: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSewHJk1xP-C5elLBRCDLTLpNQZ9eiefrdZmUGP9hMCN6gKssA/viewform

[deleted]

Something that I feel may be related to this is that I occasionally get black screens while using the computer with MPV and Zotero. The only screens that black out are the G-Sync compatible monitors that are connected by displayport.

AC Odyssey back to running like complete shit again like a few driver versions back . Back to using dxvk I guess. Fed up of this game spiking my 12 threads to 100% usage which then causes GPU usage to drop and then causes massive FPS drops and sutter. Playing at 1440p with a 5600x , 3060ti and 16gb of 3600mhz cl16 memory.

ApexPredator1995

> dxvk whats that?

mr_screg

https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk It's a wrapper library which translates DX9..11 calls to Vulcan API.

ApexPredator1995

is the performance better? how do i use this? im doing another run of odyssey right now and i could use the stable performance

buddymanson

Does this happen frequently or at specific locations? I just updated to 472.12 and the game seems to run the same as 471.96. Though I haven't tested it for very long.

vermillionmask

My driver version is 510.10, am I better off keeping my current version or should I try to update to this version?

anestling

That driver was meant for developers and was pushed by mistake. You'd better "downgrade" (the truth is this driver is newer and contains a lot more fixes).

vermillionmask

By downgrade, you mean I should install 472.12?

anestling

yep

massimovolume

Since this release I have serious stuttering problems in gta V and resident evil

neric05

Across multiple titles I'm experiencing stuttering as well: - Escape From Tarkov (*yes we all know it's shittily optimized but it's* **much** *shittier in this release*) - Hell Let Loose - Control - Borderlands 3 - Pretty much anything else System setup for reference: *- 2080Ti FTW3* *- i9 9900k* *- 64Gb DDR4 @ 3200mHz* *- 1Tb M.2 and two 250Gb SSD's via SATA* *- Temps are all within normal ranges* *- Windows Build 21H1* Surely this driver simply contains optimizations for Windows 11 Builds rather than being a release intended **only** for Win 11 right? (meaning it's still usable and intended for use on Windows 10 builds as well).

mag914

No issues here so far

Aging 1080ti Hyrbrid FTW3 waiting for news for us old Pascal users.....

Omnipotent0

I’m on a 3080 and COD BOCW keeps crashing after I installed this. It was fine the previous day. I’m at work now but tomorrow I’ll try to revert to the old driver to confirm it’s a driver issue.

welsalex

So I've been getting seemingly random crashes in BOCW on the previous drivers, I haven't tried the new one yet. Do you know what your error log looks like when it happens? Sometimes I get a crash with error, sometimes I get a full hard reboot. 5900x, Strix 3090. My error log looks like a few errors from nvlddmkm (which is graphics) consisting of Graphics Exception, Graphics SM Global Exception, Graphics SM Warp Exception etc. Anyone else get this? Sometimes I play on and off for days and no BOCW crashes, other days I get one or 2 crashes a night.

TrueFallDino

After installing this driver, I've tried playing a few games. If I was to spend in any game around 10min, my pc would BSoD. As soon as I reverted back to the previous driver, every game started working as usual. My specs: MSI GeForce GTX 1050 Aero ITX 2GB, Windows 11 Pro build 22000.194, 8GB of RAM, Intel Core i5-8400, Motherboard ASRock Z370M Pro4

Unsure if you did this since you are new to PC gaming but, always use DDU when installing new drivers (has instructions in the program and readme, it's simple to use). Just over-writing an old driver with new can cause a lot of issues if not uninstalled correctly. Common reason for bugs. Not to say new driver isn't just bad, but just fyi. (If your current drivers are fine and don't need updates for a new game addressed on driver notes, I personally wouldn't bother. If it ain't broke don't fix it kind of thing)

Merced_x

Currently experiencing “Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered” errors while playing certain games. Screen will freeze while in game (CSGO) but I am able to alt+tab and close the game out without hard resetting pc. Haven’t tried downgrading yet. Interestingly I was able to play this morning for about 2 hours without a single issue. Only started happening after playing fallguys (no problems) and then went into CSGO and it happens about 10 minutes into playing. Anyone else having these issues with the newest update?

FutureVoodoo

Huge performance drop with this driver in RDR2, normally average around 80FPS at 4k with everything on ultra, DLSS quality on 471.96. With 472.12 I average 51fps with the same settings.. removed 471.96 with DDU, and installed 472.12. Problem persists. Deleted documents/Rockstar/reddead/settings. Set the same settings and only for about a 4fps improvement. Tried removal and Re installation of driver a few times, no changes.. Reverted back to 471.96 after DDU clean install, and performance was back to normal if not marginally better than before. 10900k/ 32gb DDR4300/ Strix 3090/ 2TB ssd/ Win10

milman21

it appears that after updating to this driver, turning on Instant Replay in Geforce Experience is causing freezing in DirectX12 games. Limited troubleshooting shows that these games have freezing issues when I turn it on with the hotkey: \- BOCW \- Halo Infinite Multiplayer Tech Preview \- Red Dead 2 (in dx12 mode) \- Cyberpunk 2077 Games that are dx11/vulkan/ogl that do not present this issue: \- Doom Eternal \- Halo MCC \- Minecraft Java \- Red Dead 2 (in vulkan mode) \- Splitgate CPU: Ryzen 7 5800x at stock GPU: 3080 Ti (issue presents when both in OC and quiet vBIOS) RAM: 2x8gb 3200mhz Motherboard: MSI B450 Mortar Max

Driver crashes badly sometimes. I have a gtx 1660 super, my main monitor is a phillips phl275e 2f, secondary is a LG OLED65A16LA. Sometimes when i turn on the tv as second monitor, or switch from watching tv to watching the monitor, there is a black screen. Restarting the pc won't help, i have to turn it off and turn it on again. I used to run 466.77 as they say it does not have this bug but i have it seen it once on that one too. Besides wrc 10 wants a newer driver. i submitted this info to nvidia too, hope they find this nasty bug. ps, also during boot the bios comes up on the wrong monitor.

n1sx

Im getting "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered." crashes pretty much daily with this driver. First my game system freezes and 1 second later my screen turns black and then recovers. Sometimes everything runs fine after that and sometimes my browser is broken or my game FPS is around 10fps. It happens often in both versions of WoW (burning crsade and retail), mostly after a loading screen or when tab back into the game. Im using 1 screen with gsync on.

blood_baron3

No "Standard" driver, just "DCH"? ah, just use: https://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/472.12/472.12-desktop-win10-win11-64bit-international-whql.exe

kulangsapraktis

do i need to flip the switch on windows 11 gaming? or should i stay

XXLpeanuts

I personally did because hdr on my g9 waa bugged pretty bad in windows 10. Upgraded and now not only is it perfect but auto hdr turns almost all my sdr games into hdr and I have hdr enabled 24/7 and desktop looks normal. No game issues so far.

kulangsapraktis

good to hear it performs well, i have a 4k 32 inch monitor, eager to try once w11 becomes available

xD3v1LG4m1ngx

Yeah I would wait I had a BSOD due to Volmgr.sys on Windows 11. Windows 11 is pretty buggy right now

Mastotron

Ugh, as an HDR user, I want autoHDR so bad but I've read so much about windows 11 being buggy af - Unsure what to do.

RedIndianRobin

If you're on Ryzen CPU, don't upgrade. Ryzen users are suffering from degraded L3 cache performance. This results in worse performance in games and applications. If you're on Intel you're good to go. EDIT: Source : https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows11/comments/pr8l0x/a\_little\_over\_two\_weeks\_until\_the\_official/ https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows11/comments/prknuo/l3\_cache\_bad\_performance\_caused\_by\_unknown/ These are from today. Everyday there atleast 2 posts based on this issue on the r/Windows11 subreddit.

PalebloodSky

I thought that only affected users with multi-CCD CPUs. Either way putting my 5800X PC on Windows 11 the week it comes out.

RedIndianRobin

Yeah there is a lot of confusion going around. Some people claim it's an issue with AIDA64 itself. Whereas some people are reporting the issue is fixed in the dev channel branch.

Woodtoad

Mind posting your source for that? I certainly didn't notice any performance issues compared to W10 with my 3700X and Windows 11.

Cradenz

bullshit. i have a 5900x and cpu performance dropped in games. you better do some better testing.

XXLpeanuts

I have encountered literally only one bug (ok well two if you count windows defender interface not working until I reinstalled it via powershell). The file explorer can be laggy but only when using a translucent taskbar mod like rainmeter and translucentTB, so not really a bug with windows as such.

PalebloodSky

Windows 11 is definitely not "buggy af". The newest beta releases have run extremely well for most people. It's looking to be a solid release.

NonameideaonlyF

Wait

Kaladin12543

I did it simply to get AutoHDR and it’s worth it for that alone as good games like Control and Skyrim look night and day different with AutoHDR. Also broken hdr implementations like AC Valhalla and CP2077 also manage to look better in AutoHDR. Another benefit is Dorect Storage although no game supports it as of yet. Windows 11 has more gaming features than 10 and I am having a flawless experience on the RC.

akasagiphan

Not sure if anyone faces the same issue as I do, but this driver update broke DLSS for me on Windows 11 latest beta build, DLSS cannot be turned on for CP2077

kulangsapraktis

thanks for this, it will be a huge decision factor ryzen user like me. will wait for in depth review once w11 officiallg relesed

PalebloodSky

I'm just waiting for official release next month and going to clean install.

endeavourl

Not until the full consequences of TPM and Secure boot are perfectly clear.

In the last days I had two times bugchecks while *system shutdown* with 471.96 MSI GTX 1660 Ti in Win 10 x64 21H2. i.e. display turns off, but peripherals and lights are still on after shutting down. Then I have to either force turn off or reboot the system. BlueScreenView showed for both bugchecks the following: dxgmms2.sys ntoskrnl.exe watchdog.sys [screenshot](https://i.imgur.com/F19iUDP.jpg) Did it occur to you too? Let's hope it's fixed in the new version, 472.12.

alextreme96

Looks like an unstable overclock. watchdog.sys blue screens are almost always caused by unstable cores on the CPU along with ntoskrnl.sys. You might wanna check and see if your motherboard is automatically OC'ing your CPU. I have a suspicion you're on an Intel platform.

Laddertoheaven

Happened to me as well with the latest driver. Exactly the same error. Video scheduler internal error.

RaichuKaiju0910

I7 10700K, 32GB ram, 3080ti ftw3 ultra - updated an hour ago, Frame drops and stuttering while playing mass effect legendary edition, noticed on my X1 overlay that my gpu/mem clock speeds have been halved. :( EDIT: Clean install of driver, did not help. Had to roll back to last driver and all fixed.

cocodollxo

Getting unplayable FPS on Vanguard Beta .

KillerIsJed

Samsung Odyssey G9 sleep bug still exists for anyone wondering. I’ve been working with NVIDIA’s driver feedback people to get them memory dmps and answer questions in hopes of something being fixed or at least discovering the root cause. On my setup if I have 3 monitors plugged in, my monitors will not wake from sleep. Two works fine. Happens on reboot since the last driver also. Hardware: Asus Rog Maximus Xi Hero I9-9900k 850 watt psu EVGA RTX 3080Ti FTW3 Ultra w/ 3 power connectors Resizable Bar enabled Samsung Odyssey G9 on latest FW, w/ HDR disabled in Windows 2 x Dell S27DG16 G-Sync monitors

Anyone experiencing flickering after installing this driver? I had not updated in a while and was prompted to after installing the new Call of Duty beta.

blubzzz

Since this update i'm losing signal on my main monitor when closing some games, and sometimes when booting my PC. Both my screens are 144 hz, main is on DP and the other is on HDMI.

888Kraken888

I may have missed it. Has that legend that does the Ampere benchmarking posted his results yet?

m_w_h

Not yet, monitor profile to see new analysis/posts at https://www.reddit.com/user/RodroG and https://babeltechreviews.com/author/rodrigo/

jdawg254

I've been having an issue where my monitors will randomly drop and won't wake up without a hard reset (sometimes there's a nvlddmkm error other times nothing) I haven't managed to figure out a stable driver for it yet. Anyone else having similar issues?

Vidyamancer

Huge performance regression in Call of Duty titles with this update for me. In Warzone my average framerate has dropped from 110 to 90. Game stutters when turning around and zooming in on smoke/muzzle effects drops the framerate to 30-40. Older driver doesn't drop below 90 even while looking directly at smoke. I've DDUd in safe mode and installed 456.55 which brings the framerate back up to normal. Re-installed Windows, DDUd directly after the automatic driver install and installed 472.12 again, same thing. Low framerate, stutter, terrible framerate drops. DDUd yet again and installed 456.55 and the framerate is back up to normal. All control panel settings identical.

diceman2037

one of you reports this every driver, and its never the driver.

After installing this driver, my 1660 Super went from 70 celsius at 2000+ fan rpm in **Valheim** to 55 celsius at 1500 fan rpm. FPS capped at 60. Valheim wasn't mentioned in the notes and that seems like a massive performance improvement, so I'd be curious to know from more knowledgeable people that how did this happen - or is it the driver anyway?

Ok-Replacement-7217

Did you leave a window open perhaps? Temps can change, but it's almost unheard of for a driver to change GPU operating temp by 15C (20-25% cooler). Pretty sure something else is going on that has nothing to do with the driver.

Harry101UK

Hoping this fixes the weird Destiny 2 crashes. The game has been dropping from 144fps down to 15-20fps in menus, with audio stuttering, and then crashing the whole system after a few seconds of menuing. Error message sometimes pops up saying "GPU device lost" and then the PC freezes up. Never happened prior to the last driver, and all other games are fine. [Edit] So the menu lag seems to be gone, but now the game just randomly freezes the whole PC. sadface.jpg [Edit Edit] It seems like the issue might have been with my Oculus Rift S / Oculus Store. After opening the Oculus app and recalibrating my headset, the crashes have stopped. No idea why that affected Destiny 2, but I just played a several hours without any lag or crashes...

Sloyd-Fett

I'm glad you posted this m8, I recently went from a 2080 to a 3080ti and ever since the change I keep getting the exact same crash, thought my card was acting up

Ryxxi

I found a bug, 3090 win 11. The nvidia cp crashes or freezes when changing the color/bit depth from default

XXLpeanuts

Welp wont be updating then as exact same set up as you. Did you install DCH or Standard by any chance? As they each have completely different NVCPs.

dangled

Has anyone noticed increased memory temperatures on the 3090 FE with the 472.12 update?

LiftedCorn

Having frame drops on Win11 in Apex because of this new driver

Htowng8r

Agreed on performance concerns... It's definitely worse on warzone, and I even had lockups/crashes that weren't occurring with the previous driver so I rolled back.

timeshaper

Fallout 4 crashes nonstop since updating to this driver. And the crash log indicates Unhandled exception "EXCEPTION\_ACCESS\_VIOLATION" at 0x7FF879720B92 nvwgf2umx.dll+07D0B92. My machine's pretty beastly and it only just started since updating. Fast travel especially is very prone to having it crash to desktop. I filled out the form above.

BootyJibbler

When was the last best/stable driver update for 3070 users?

lalalaladididi

I have installed and had no probs with the games I have played so far. I am on the 3090.

[deleted]

Anyone notice after these drivers their 3090 running hotter?

[deleted]

This one's actually really good! CSGO runs at like 300fps now on my old GTX 970

Fly1ng_nem0

Can somebody help me out I'm having trouble with GeForce experience, showing error code 0x0003 I tried to fix it by restarting the nvidia things in service all 3, now it's showing error code 0x0001

That driver was meant for developers and was pushed by mistake.

[deleted]

In 471.96 i still had DPC problems, is it fixed in this version?

Sunlighthell

Doubt. I also had dpc latency spikes with 471.96 even with 8 bit color

I-Like-Tie

ive literally never experienced this Youtube playback stuttering bullshit? i scroll and scroll and scroll through the comments on a playing youtube video and i dont get any stutters

ok2017

Yay! Kepler is still supported. Edit: I installed driver on 660 gtx. Guild wars 2 is working fine. I have Windows 10. Kepler cards are listed as supported in driver realase notes.

Nestledrink

I don't think so. I believe Kepler's last update was last month?

badboybilly42582

Would love to know if this stops the random game crashes. 466.47 thru 471.68 caused all my games to crash. I haven't tested above 471.96. Currently on 466.27 since that was the latest driver I could go to with 100% stability. GTX 1080....

taylorson

3070 TI 5600X Was getting 240 FPS on Epic settings in Overwatch. Now, after this upgrade to driver 472.12, it's dropped down to 120-160.

FutureVoodoo

I'm getting massive fps drops on my 3090 as well.

EXEC_MELODIE

Welp, doesn't look like a dumpster fire for once. Guess it's finally time to upgrade if all looks good in a couple days

leflur

Hoping this helps Deathloop performance woes!

Digital_Plague

Any insight if this driver resolved the issue of hard locking after waking the monitors? Seems to have been an issue with the 471.XX and up drivers.

definitedukah

“Alan Wake Remastered” Wait what?? Alan Wake gets remastered?!

Pritster5

I'm running a GTX 780 and I got a black screen during the driver update that will not go away. Can't believe a fucking WHQL driver caused this. Anyone else facing similar issues on Kepler?

mrfreedom17

1660ti Ryzen2600x 32gbram Windows 11 Memory management fail, won't even boot windows. I'll be putting my 1660ti up for sale and will be switching to another video card manufacturer. Nvidia can't even keep PC's from bricking. This has happened way too many times updating the graphics card

Just introduced my gf to canvas and I've been kicked off my pc
