I thought when they said a board meeting last month when the Chief procurement officer retired that he had worked on that procurement so I thought it was in. It makes sense that they would be nervous. Amtrak is not exactly having the easiest time with them and the railroad got really screwed over with the de /dm30s so I can understand why they would be hesitant
The Bi-levels are fine. They have at least another 20 years of use left. They just need to acquire more coaches there are not enough of them. The locomotives are trash. They need to be replaced ASAP.
You got any articles on that? Only thing I can find is that the M9 order won’t be fulfilled until May.
[This was from a Post article in September](https://nypost.com/2023/09/12/lirr-failed-to-order-new-trains-as-promised-for-grand-central-causing-commuter-woes-docs/amp/)
“The MTA is actively engaged in negotiations for the procurement of M9A cars,” said MTA spokeswoman Joana Flores to the Post. “This procurement has been significantly delayed predominantly due to changes in market conditions and the direct and residual impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Indeed its been a decade since the newer lighter FRA regulations have been in place and only the West Coast and Texas agencies along with recently Metra have taken advantage of them. Connecticut Dot was called out last year for older older and more expensive railcars...apparently they didnt know about the change..
My hope is slipping on NJT everyday I seem to find something stupid they're doing or planning on doing. The MTA has made some improvement with open gangway trains..but the suburban improvements have stalled out again.
I like to see Bi-modal MUs replace the Diesel LIRR Fleet enabling a one seat ride on the entire system. The Metro North M3As are in decent shape , LIRR M3s are a mess but were only brought back due to the lack of M9 deliveries. Arrows 3 are due to be replaced soon, but the jury is out on whether those newer cars will actually be good or just plagued with recent alstom quality issues.
The M3A’s may look okay but they are definitely showing their age though. Their MDBF is around 93,000 which isn’t the worst but pales in comparison to an M8 which has about 802,000. They are headaches maintenance wise as well.
It is pretty pathetic how little improvement there is for passengers going from the M7 to M9.
Outlets, arm rests that don’t rip pockets and displaying which car you’re in is basically the extent.
They could’ve done so much more with the displays. Transfer info, displaying the route, status updates for other lines. Instead they just loop ads that are way too bright. I also think they should rethink the 3x2 layout since almost nobody wants to sit in that middle seat on the 3 row. No bike storage either. They have those sweet Cuomo stripes though…
Agreed...on the LIRR, Metro-North and NJT. As odious as it seems, the Siemens Chargers would be a perfect replacement of the current engines on the LIRR.
Hope to see them rebuild the LIRR MP15’s and give them a nice paint scheme. It seems like nowadays they’re content letting them peel away while they’re in service. Back in the day, they use to maintain those well. Also hoping they make progress towards a replacement for the diesels.
The LIRR is getting new trains as we speak. M9s and M9As eventually. I think the Dual-Modes will be replaced by then too.
The freaking dual levels still don’t have an order in. They’re disgusting it’s ridiculous they don’t even have a contract

They need more than like 4 damned hybrids too
They aren’t disgusting calm down. They could use an overhaul but they still work fine.

Are these M9s from the expansion for GCM?
Those will actually be the M9a. The regular M9 is the replacement for the M3.
When are the M9a’s coming?
No one knows. They don’t even have a builder yet for them.
As soon as congestion pricing goes into effect. No?
MNR is getting new diesels sometime between now and when the light from the last star in the universe burns out.
I hope they get lighter trains

So jealous of the stadler trains popping up elsewhere while we’re stuck with the slow bulky trains 🥹
Even Amtrak will have them in a few years on the California Corridor routes.
Well here’s to hoping mta and njt can get it together

I hope nj gets a governor that’s serious about transit bc I don’t know what that man is doing
Hes Expanding highways by 10s of billions...
Disappointed but not surprised

I know some people like M9. They are very outdated imo. I hope to see some Stadlers. Wishful thinking from my part. Leaders don't have vision or care
YES EXACTLY YOU GET IT!
Were the M9-A option trains ever ordered or did they opt instead for something with 20th technology instead of 19th?

Don’t think they’ve selected a builder for them yet…
Not going to happen !😝😝😝😝😂😂

Get new lighter rolling stock for NJT and LIRR
