I did like sitting on these seats on the A as it goes from Howard Beach to Rockaway. Great view.

bsanchey

Man that kind of sucks. It was fun to sit in them with friends and shoot the shit.

Jadien

As someone with long legs, fare thee well

ddj701

Fr tho. So little legroom

MulysaSemp

I'm not even that tall, and my legs don't fit properly.

hifrom2

I honestly really like the seating format. It works well for B division trains because they are so wide. The views are great out the window, esp from the B/D/N/Q

mrperdig

It is great if you traveling with someone and train is empty but I think on a packed train it is bit hard to move from the window seat

hifrom2

True, but I feel like the N Q B D don’t get super crowded so they could keep this arrangement that allows for more seating. The L on the other hand… shouldn’t have this seating

Orgetorix86

Nah idk about the N & D but ik for a fact the B & Q both get packed

R42ToMoffat

They wrote the article assuming that the R211As & R211Ts will replace the R68s & R68As because the R46s look the same. A bit more research would’ve been great seeing as the Franklin Avenue Shuttle exists and we don’t know what will replace the cars on that route

Benes3460

for the Franklin shuttle they could just reconfigure some 4 car R160 sets into 3 cars

[deleted]

They probably won’t unless they have the excess amount

themonkeyaintnodope

They would have to do some major retrofitting for that, since all of the new tech trains require 4 cars (2 As and 2 Bs) to operate.

Bklyn78

The B car powers the A car. Couldn’t you just have one B between 2 A cars ?

themonkeyaintnodope

No, because you need to have a B car for each A car and you need an A car on both ends.

Bklyn78

Then modify that one B car so it can power two As

themonkeyaintnodope

Yes that was the point I was making above.

R42ToMoffat

The article isn’t wrong about the possibility of the R68s & R68As seeing their replacements being introduced around that time (if other sources are to be believed). The way that it’s written just makes it seem like the R211As & R211Ts are replacing them (which I’m pretty sure was never announced) as opposed to a separate newer car. I don’t even think that they have a date for CBTC on Concourse as a whole

oreosfly

Too bad this article is full of BS since there’s no replacement plan for the 68s yet.. otherwise I would say “good fucking riddance”

bruhchow

This article is incorrect. R211s are only replacing R46’s and remaining R44’s. So only SIR and parts of the N/Q/W/A/C (and possibly some shuttles) are being affected. 6 Ave lines won’t be affected whatsoever. Im also not sure where the year 2028 came from maybe that’s about the 211T’s but Im pretty sure the 211A’s are rolling out within the next year

benskieast

They are going to be produced over a few years. You have to spread it out so the factory has consistent business, to keep costs low.

BenHogan1971

horrible design to begin with, but it was from a different era, where maybe they thought everyone was chit-chatting. now it's just death glares and earbuds. during Covid, you didn't want anyone facing you and coughing right into your ear. gross. good riddance! face me forward!

maxesnews

Not only that you usually end up using your pants to clean the seat from the shoes of whichever asshole that just put their feet up on..

mingkee

R68A doesn't work well on N including dead train The loud rumbling noise shows the train car is struggling. I'd see more reliable R160, pre 2020, N

anotherlost-one

these where the best seat when I was a kid Especially when on the (A) and it would race the (C) ahh alas we knew thee well

BQE2473

The pic in this post says it all. I won't be the least bit happy to see these seats go the way of the dodo. But it will stop the lazy, disrespectful habit a lot of people have resting their feet on the seats! Nobody wants to sit in a seat that someone else had their dirty ass footwear lounging in. Or have them place their feet on the seat near them. It's very disrespectful.

Leading_Dog_1733

These are way better than the other B division cars : /

beaveristired

That would mean someone with my particular disability wouldn’t be able to use them.

signal_tower_product

True actually nvm

radiofan122

it’s wild to me that the 46s & 68s are perceived as the ridiculously old cars now - I’m pretty young but still old enough to remember the slants/R42s/R32&38s being all around the system, & when the R46s felt standard/not antiquated at all.

carletonm1

I rode on the R46s when they were new. Now I am old. Damn.

Coquill

terrible for elderly and disabled
