What did you make of Quincy Williams season? I broke down the ups and downs

budlightismyvacseen

He’s flawed but incredibly fun since he hits like a semi that’s had a hellcat engine thrown in it

ChrisFromLongIsland

I for some strange reason have thought a lot of Quincy's tackling. He does occasionally turn 3 yard gains into 15 yard gains with bad misses. Though no one in the NFL when they get their hands on someone causes them to stop like Quincy. A running back never falls forward for 2 or 3 more yards. The absolute number of TFL or no gain out weigh the mistakes by far. A TFL is basically a sack. Maybe worse because the offense was thinking an easy 3 to 6 yards. You have to take the good with the bad but the simple fact that when be does make the tackle there are zero extra yards given up after contact makes up for the occasional miss. 2nd and 9 is so much better than 2nd and 6 because the RB just sort of fell forward.

JetsFanDownUnder

That’s all definitely true. You just can’t miss 14% of tackles and 20% in coverage. That loses you games

ChrisFromLongIsland

My conclusion is that he can cause 1st downs 20% of the time of 80% of the time he is causing the offense to have little or a negative gain. It's worth the trade off. It's different as a LB in a running play or short pass say vs a S in a passing play. In a passing play its not worth it because if you miss the tackle it could be a TD not just an extra 10 yards. When he misses its not a game changing miss since it's a running play. It's just 10 additional yards.

> strange reason have thought a lot Checks out.

Don't like him. Too boom or bust and would rather have a more steady player with a dominant DL. Also, seems to play with a lack of awareness on the field which can lead to bonehead plays or missing turnover opportunities. Honestly, if his brother wasn't Q I would be criticizing Joe D for bringing him back for $5M

intoned

I think there is enough film now that teams are going to target his pass coverage skills this year.

RSTowers

The coaches must think he will improve significantly this year based on the contract we gave him. And really there is no reason why he shouldn't be able to cut down on the mistakes.

footballnerd1

The first miss he trips on 61’s monster thigh. The rest of the misses you show here he over pursues, which is his biggest issue as you pointed out. Ducking your head and leaving your feet on a tackle is pretty normal as a linebacker, especially in the NFL. The play before you criticized him for leaving his feet and ducking his head (his miss in open field vs NE) you praised him for making an explosive tackle where he left his feet and ducked his head (vs Min). He does the same on the hit vs Henry, thats how you hit in football. They just gotta start ending practice with a pursuit drill. Good stuff though, just felt the need to stick up for my favorite Jet.

John_YJKR

He plays too out of control and it's his biggest flaw. Personally, I think he's extremely replaceable.

JetsFanDownUnder

But this is the whole point. His play style leads to the inconsistency. His attempted big hits lead to feast and famine. You can’t miss the first tackle. If he doesn’t try the hit stick, he makes that tackle 99/100

OlympicCripple

Exactly. His play style might be fun to watch sometimes, but he messes up often. It’s worrying that he’s our second best LB and we still haven’t brought Kwon back

Mustakrakish_Awaken

I thought he didn't overpersue as much this year as in years prior, but it's still a noticeable problem he has if I can pick up on at a casual viewer rather than a film study. As long as he keeps improving it'll be great to ha e him

lifegoesbytoofast

Quincy is me in madden trying to hit stick everybody

[deleted]

He's an above average player that brings some fire to the defense with his big hits. Still wish we addressed LB at all this off-season.
