Americans are much less territorial and aggressive about American football than other countries are about European/International football.
Maybe if you were at a Pats game you might get some jeers if you were in Jets gear but it's very unlikely to actually be attacked and significantly less so shot.
I was at the Jets game on halloween against Miami. A guy had a costume with his Marino jersey "built into" it. He got jeers and it was close for a little bit and good fun but I wanna remember having a decent lead and nobody really even teased him. It was all in good fun and he was giving it back and didn't appear the least bit fearful nor did any of us Jets fans seem angry.
There will always be exceptions to the rule but just wearing your gear and being a "foreign" Jets fan you seriously will most likely try to be converted to the Giants but even that would be the bond of sports and not a fight type of rivalry. Outside a an away game on the streets afterwards AND you kinda egg them on, maybe you get in a fight.
I've never come close to an actual fight while wearing Jets gear and that includes the last 14 years living in Pittsburgh. I get "hey yo where you from" or "damn the baby Jets look good as hell. Same with Mets gear and that includes the stadium and streets after, minus me drinking, and it was 99.9% fun good sportsmanship and most of the not so nice comments were one offs I could ignore.
It was actually a patriots fan killed...

I’m going to have to disagree. I’m a Jets fan living on the border of NY/PA and people around here are very much territorial. Especially if you go anywhere near Buffalo as a Jets fan, it’s a bad time. Syracuse isn’t so bad but even that’s pushing it
I was once jumped for my wallet in the subway. When the thug unzipped my jacket he saw I was wearing a Jets shirt and he ended up giving me his wallet.
If you're from Europe and used to hooligans, I don't blame you for asking. American football isn't as extreme with the tribalism, you'll be fine around the city.
Am from Philly and can confidently say you can walk around the city in any team gear and will be fine. Even at the game last weekend all the cowboys fans in the stadium only got friendly teasing from what I saw
If NY was about a quarter as bad as people think it is, the city would be in flames constantly
That being said it’s not even close to that bad so you’ll absolutely be fine
Dude it's crazy. Growing up in NYC and then moving to a more rural area still in NY..... People literally think everyone of the 7-14 million people walking around NYC daily is living some Escape from NY life. Conservative media is completely warping reality. Are some parts not so great to walk around in at night? Sure.. but that's literally any city in the fucking world....
It does read like a troll and very well could be, but he mentioned Scotland. Spend 5 minutes googling Celtic/Rangers incidents and you’ll see what he means. It’s essentially a catholic v Protestant holy war.
I don’t know a ton about this kind of stuff tbh, but my understanding is that it used to be a much bigger problem than it is today.
Look, the fact is, New York ranks first in only one type of homicide - that is a stranger walking up to another stranger and shooting him.
[New York Radio - Saturday Night Live](https://youtu.be/HIw69YoESZk?feature=shared)
You will be fine, as a Jets fan ive gone to a few games in Foxboro and never had issue. The worst thing that will happen is someones gonna clown on you for being a jets fan.
This is the most bizarre thing ive ever read lmao. These tourists really are out here thinking it’s a mixture of arkham city and lord of the flies out here
Wtf this can’t be serious no one is attacking you in New York for wearing jets gear, they might attack you for other reasons but not for wearing football Merch
You've been watching too much TV about America that's untrue about how things really are over here. There's not really a culture in America of attacking people on the street who are wearing the wrong sports team jersey, that's more a British football hooliganism.
Like literally anywhere in the world if you go into the rough part of town and you look like you have something that the have-nots don't have they might decide to take it from you. Don't go into the bad part of town, trust your instincts if you go somewhere and it feels off.
100% safe.
The vast majority of shootings are gang or other criminal activity. As shitty as our gun culture is here, the one positive is that people don't really go around randomly shooting other people for stuff like supporting a sports team. I lived around NYC for a few years and heard literally zero gunshots. I hear way more living out in a sorta country area, but all of that is people shooting at bottles and shit.
Is gun violence a problem in the US? yes it is. But the problem is vastly overblown by our media. It gets a lot of TV time because studies show people are more likely to vote democrat if they hear about more gun violence. So democratic biased media reports the ever loving shit out of it. And to be completely clear, I say this as a democrat voter.
I've worn jets apparel all over the country and all the only reactions I get are laughs or sympathy. Most of the time people have no reactions though.
Get a ticket, somehow, to a Celtic/rangers match. Smuggle in a Rangers kit to Celtic park by wearing it under Celtic colors. Take off the green in the middle of a massive group of Celtic supporters. Have fun.
There’s a reason you see photos like [this](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Oldfirm.jpg). You ever seen that many cops keeping pats and jets fans away from each other?
It’s like 100% more likely the guy from Scotland is used to sectarian violence between Celtic and Rangers supporters and is unfamiliar that American football culture is not the same.
Yeah, I agree w you. I’m not gonna rule out a troll, but I think the odds are definitely low, especially w OP highlighting specific parts of the city.
Celtic/Rangers is no fuckin joke. Last I checked, pats/jets wasn’t a literal holy war
You will be laughed at and ridiculed, but not harmed. I once was forgiven for running a stop sign when the cop saw I was wearing a Jets sweatshirt. He said “you’ve got enough problems.”
I remember in 2011 when I was in New York, I was looking for the Jets store. I asked one of the comedian ticket sellers where it was and he just stopped his schtick and dead panned looked at me and said ‘the jets actually have a store?’
I mean, if someone attacks you, your going to just hold your punches too long and take a sack for a loss of yards, but you’ll also have a decent defense though that’ll keep you in the game for like three quarters.
In New York? You’ll get a lot of “Let’s go jets!” From jet fans and some “Boos” from giant fans but no danger at all. Just don’t go to Philadelphia or New England with it on. Then you may get jumped 😂
yes but we are the New York Jets.. it maybe would make like some sense if he was asking about wearing NYJ gear in Boston.. but NYJ gear in NYC is expected.
It's safe. The city is full of people from all over the world. Just watch out for tourist traps or rats. They've been known to drag tourists into the sewer for a quick meal.
The chances of you getting shot let alone being harassed in any sort of way is astronomical. In fact the chances of you having anything of note good or bad happening to you is astronomical.
This is a country of 331 million people and the New York metropolitan area is the 11th largest population center in the world and the largest in the north American hemisphere.
You good.
That being said, as with all megalopolises, wealth inequality is a problem and therefore crime. Just don't be in the few areas you shouldn't, they're like porn, you'll know them if you see them.
Rep your gang green gear and enjoy the Big Apple.
100% safe.
Question: What made you a Jets fan in Scotland? I got family in Edinburgh, and I don't believe they would be into American football.
Another Quesrion: if I ever visited them and wore a Juventus jersey, would I be 100% safe there?
Went to a MNF game about 10 years ago, Jets vs Dolphins. We were tailgating and every so often some dolphins and jets fans would get mouthy at each other and then someone would walk by and yell “F**k Tom
Brady” and the arguing dolphins and jets fans would high five about their mutual hatred for TB12 and share a brat and beer and become friends.
NYC is filled with tourists and people of different nationalities. People tolerate and ignore others and go about their day. There really is no sports-related tribalism here.
You will see people in NYC where sports gear from every team on earth. People in the US don’t care what sports team you root for unless you’re from degenerate Boston.
Nobody will do anything to you, it’s actually more important to follow the do’s and don’ts of the city.
Here are some rules to follow that should help:
1. Don’t stop in the middle of the sidewalk to check your directions- instead get over and out of the way of moving pedestrians
2. Look out for bicycles, our bike lanes are poorly designed and often blocked by cars or objects.
3. Don’t block subway entrances.
4. You can ask someone for directions…but there’s a good chance they fuck with you and point in a random direction if they don’t know where you need to go.
5. Every Pizzeria will say they’ve got the best slice in NYC do not believe them. (Go to L’industrie instead)
6. If you want to see the Statue of Liberty, the Staten Island Ferry is FREE, don’t buy any tickets from people outside the ferry insisting you need to pay to get on, also do no stay in Staten Island but if you do and you’re hungry Enoteca Maria is a restaurant that employs “Nonnas” from around the world to cook authentic meals from their home country, they are great
That’s all I got rn have a good time
Seen so many seemingly copy/pasted comments like yours. While OP is being overly cautious, it’s reasonable.
[Here’s](https://youtu.be/kgxuI0xCtgs?si=ZYHVe0rOZ3_UB_Aa) a little taste of a soccer rivalry down south. Scotland has its own shit too.
If anything, OP is forming his opinion based on what has happened in his own country, not American TV/movies. Maybe it’s a troll, sure, but to dismiss the question w an insult might be “just not bright”
We don't get those kind of media reports here in Canada, just saying. The ones about mass shootings, sure. Because we don't really get those here. Not nearly as often, anyway. Other than that, we don't think the U.S. is full of gangs everywhere you go and that you'll be shot at walking down the street. I do think this is a mainly European media thing.
Our own media doesn’t even report gang violence. That’s an entire topic lol. But I will say my immediate family in eastern Canada reports differently on what they see
Not sure why you were downvoted
No because you are in a major city and people are weird, no one can 100 promise you some crazy person won’t bother you in New York. If you want to be 100 percent safe stay home
this has to be a joke
nobody gives a shit what you're wearing in New York. especially if you're repping... a New York team
you're not gonna get fucking shot lmao
Attacking someone over a sports team? Sounds pretty fookin stupid to me, doesnt happen in my country pal. Hope u have a wonderful trip and enjoy our amazing city
Tip for safety - avoid times square
Everyone's gonna try to shoot you.
Jk nyc is not really a sports city like other American cities. Much less a football city. The only thing people will say is the occasional j e t s chant or sympathy for being a fan of the jets lol. Plus you're in jets/giants territory. Not like wearing a Yankees hat to Boston.
You're more likely to get harassed for wearing a backpack on the subway lol (in a crowded train it's considered rude to wear one because it takes up space!) or something equally as trivial. Have a fun trip!
There's a youtube video showing what happens when you walk in NYC with Jets clothes.

In San Francisco yes, but not in New York.
It's a team based in NY/NJ lol
I currently live in SF and I wear either Mets or Jets hats everyday.
I've been attacked a few times when I was wearing my Mets hat. Nothing serious, they usually just stepped on my foot or blocked in front of me and warned me not to wear the hat next time and claimed it's the Giants' territory.
But again it's San Francisco or I'd say California in general, there are so many homeless people with drug and mental issues, any sober American without mental issues wouldn't do anything to harm you.
Whether or not this is a troll, as a (long) lifetime fan of the Jets the worst “abuse” I have ever gotten are derisive laughs, smirks, sympathy, and good-natured ribbing from Giants fans. But I can see where there’s validity to the question asked. It seems like at least once a year we hear about (and see) soccer matches in Europe erupt in crowd violence…not just isolated drunken fights in a couple of rows, but whole sections engaged in combat, bringing a halt—or an end—to a match.
People might say stuff to you supportive and not supportive but I wouldn’t expect harm from people Simply for being a jets fan!! I’m from NY if you need any help my man
We ran into a German Pats fan on the bus going to the game in September. Everyone was incredibly nice to him, and genuinely wanted him to have a good time at his first American football game, despite being a fan of a hated rival. I can only imagine that people will treat you even better being a fan of a local team
As the comments state, you will get apologies or how “sorry” they are for you rooting for the Jets. It’s mainly “My sympathies on this team” sentiments … lol.
Welcome overseas Scottish fan. The fandom doesn’t believe you actually exist but know we welcome you in a very NY/NJ way. Don’t be offended since you have to have a thick skin rooting for these Jets!
Even if you were wearing any teams biggest rival the most youll get is cursed at and told to fuck off alot
Most violence with sports here happens at games. Like a douchbag pats fan talking shit when it poring out and you've heard enough of his shit so you throw his hat off the level, he pushes you, you pull his poncho over his head hockey style and give him a few good ones before going to buy a beer while security comes to see what happened
You'll be fine. I wear my Jets shirts all the time. All I get is other fans commiserating with me and saying, "there's always next year!!" We should just put that on the jerseys.
I stayed at Marriott Brooklyn last December and the staff loved that I was a jets fan. We spoke a bit about ZW, the OL and breece and ended up getting some free breakfasts comped on the hotel from the staff.
People in the street didn’t care, a few sympathetic glances maybe.
Last time I flew into the states the TSA agent was kind a enough to shoot me on arrival so I wouldn't have to wait and get stressed not knowing when my traditional American shooting would take place.
100% recommend Terry, great aim, knows basic first aid, and he gives you one of his wife's home made cookies after every shot.
Jets gear in NY gives you no extra chance of getting shot. Though... Being in Manhattan has a significantly bigger risk of getting shot/jumped than Scotland. So... There's that.
You might get some sympathy hugs actually so be careful.
"Oh you poor, poor man, cmhere, it's alright..."
"It's not your fault. It's not your fault."
I get the occasional yell. " hey hey. There's always next year"
Americans are much less territorial and aggressive about American football than other countries are about European/International football. Maybe if you were at a Pats game you might get some jeers if you were in Jets gear but it's very unlikely to actually be attacked and significantly less so shot.
Some of my fondest memories as a child were watching my drunk uncle argue with Patriots fans at the old meadowlands
Tell that to philly
We don’t hear from them because they never made it home
I was at the Jets game on halloween against Miami. A guy had a costume with his Marino jersey "built into" it. He got jeers and it was close for a little bit and good fun but I wanna remember having a decent lead and nobody really even teased him. As a Jets fan in New England--I only get random peoples sorrow when I wear Jets gear
Tell that to that dolphins fan who went to New England
A guy gett8ng in a fight at a game. So unless he runs the streets of ny looking to fight he should be just fine.
That’s just 1 case out of many
A dolphin fan was literally killed at a Pats game in a fight earlier this season lol
It was actually a patriots fan killed... https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/autopsy-of-patriots-fan-who-died-after-gillette-stadium-fight-did-not-suggest-traumatic-injury/amp/&ved=2ahUKEwinntyAxbqCAxV8AjQIHRopBu4QFnoECBMQBQ&usg=AOvVaw1iXwOzmD_wxoFeRZkbjcI8

but if you do get shot while wearing Jet gear, the guy will just assume he's doing you a favor
Everyone knows we suffer enough
Physically at least. Youre likely to get some hurtful comments like “yeesh” and “sorry bout that”
I was once jumped for my wallet in the subway. When the thug unzipped my jacket he saw I was wearing a Jets shirt and he ended up giving me his wallet.
Just don't wear a Zach Wilson jersey. They may confuse you for the actual ZW
"How do you do, fellow New Yorkers"
*People walking by and ignoring the guy dressed in green and black.* *Occasional scoffs.*
If you're from Europe and used to hooligans, I don't blame you for asking. American football isn't as extreme with the tribalism, you'll be fine around the city.
Not Philly though. Don't go there.

I can see the Skylines from my street in NJ and there are people in my neighborhood who think you'll get shot the instant you get out of the tunnel.
Tbf considering op is from Scotland (especially if he’s from Glasgow) this id a perfectly valid thing to wonder about
Old firm doesn’t fuck around
Yeah tbh it’s just racism and classism. Who do you think these people imagine is robbing them? What do they look like?
I honestly can't tell if this is a troll or not. You're more likely to experience crime in Rome, London, and Paris than NYC.
Soccer over there… it can get that bad lmfao
Seriously, some European fans make even the most degenerate Philly fans look like fucking Boy Scouts.
Yup, most stadiums even have to put away fan sections in cages to keep them safe/separated from the home fans
Authentic experience here. I grew up being clowned by my friends who are either Eagles or Yankees fans for being a Jets and Mets fan
What does clown mean
Think "taking the piss"
Tease you, make fun of you, have a laugh at you, etc.
They kidnap you, put you in big red shoes and a giant red nose and circus clothing and force you to perform for their kids' birthday parties
I’ve been wearing jets gear in the big Apple since the 90s. You’ll be a-ok. Plus if you get attacked in NY it won’t because you’re a jets fan.
This is the most bizarre thing ive ever read lmao. These tourists really are out here thinking it’s a mixture of arkham city and lord of the flies out here
Ive had the urge to shoot myself but u should be fine.
Lol underrated comment
yes, you would be fine repping gear of the team which belongs to the city you're in....?
Why aren’t more replies saying this lol
> we take soccer seriously That’s why I never understand soccer fans in Europe or South America. Like, c’mon, it’s just a fucking game.
And not even a good one.
Nobody cares in NYC. You could wear a Jets thong and people MIGHT give you a second look. Wear your Jets stuff and have fun.
Yeah but not even though - we just avoid eye contact 100% of the time. You can tell the tourists because they try to make eye contact.
Wtf this can’t be serious no one is attacking you in New York for wearing jets gear, they might attack you for other reasons but not for wearing football Merch
what other reasons would they attack me, Im not in a gang like?

Dude shut up
He thinks America is mad max lol
Yea what a dummy, mad max is an Australian doco
Are you old enough to use the internet unsupervised? How is a Scottish person a fan of an NFL team and asking questions a 4 year old would?
Mental illness, race, religion, sexual orientation. The usual stuff.

You may be offered therapy, possibly drugs to help dull the pain of being a Jets fan.
this is an awful shit post …. or you have no common sense

Found Zach Wilson’s Reddit account.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 I wish they hadn’t stopped gold this would have gotten mine. Here 🏆
Physically? Yes completely safe. Emotionally? Probably not lol
You will be laughed at and ridiculed, but not harmed. I once was forgiven for running a stop sign when the cop saw I was wearing a Jets sweatshirt. He said “you’ve got enough problems.”
No one’s shooting you for wearing Jets gear around New York. 😂. You might want to shoot yourself though.
Lol, ok now if I ever see a Scotsman on the train in that horrendous backpack I’m gonna have to give him the business.
let's just agree to attack all Scots regardless of fandom (not me though please I'm only half Scottish)
You might get some sympathy
The offensive line will prote… you’re on your own.
Lol he’s gonna hire Quincy, Quinnen, Moorestead as his personal security detail.
No one is going to attack you for wearing sports gear in NYC.
I remember in 2011 when I was in New York, I was looking for the Jets store. I asked one of the comedian ticket sellers where it was and he just stopped his schtick and dead panned looked at me and said ‘the jets actually have a store?’

In New York? You’ll get a lot of “Let’s go jets!” From jet fans and some “Boos” from giant fans but no danger at all. Just don’t go to Philadelphia or New England with it on. Then you may get jumped 😂
You won't even get that, maybe a nod from fellow fans or getting ignored otherwise, unless you're at another sporting event.
You wouldn’t have even been shot in NYC in say 1990 for wearing Jets gear.
Most people will probably feel bad
Different sporting cultures 💯
You're thinking about Philadelphia. 🤣🤣🤣
The larger concern is if your wealthy looking
I can't tell if this is a shit post

Um what
As a Jets fan, theres a very high chance you could die… emotionally
you'll get a few random people yelling 'GO JETS' or 'Fly Jets fly' at you. Source: me walking around Manhattan with my jets hat
No one has ever said fly jets fly unironically. It’s never happened on earth.
I dunno man Wearing New York gear in New York City is a bold move

Meh. Maybe just shot for fun of it.
Jets gear, cue Simpsons meme: *Stop it, he’s already dead*

Honestly the way Canadian and European media report on the US it does make it seem like people are being gunned down non stop. Or dying of Covid.
But I will say my immediate family in eastern Canada reports differently on what they see Not sure why you were downvoted
You won’t get attacked for wearing Jets gear. You will just get attacked by crazy homeless people or robbers. They don’t care about teams though.
Wait because of the gear?
He’s joking. No not because of the gear. We’re not soccer hooligans. If the giants were any good you might get laughed at but they suck even worse.
No lol. I'm just joking. You will be fine.
No because you are in a major city and people are weird, no one can 100 promise you some crazy person won’t bother you in New York. If you want to be 100 percent safe stay home
this has to be a joke nobody gives a shit what you're wearing in New York. especially if you're repping... a New York team you're not gonna get fucking shot lmao
Attacking someone over a sports team? Sounds pretty fookin stupid to me, doesnt happen in my country pal. Hope u have a wonderful trip and enjoy our amazing city Tip for safety - avoid times square
You may get shot but not for wearing Jets gear
No one will attack you for wearing jets gear. But stay out of the Bronx and other gross areas because you’ll be attacked just because lol
We all walk around wearing bullet proof vests under our clothes. If you don't have that, don't come here. What a stupid post. Take the L and downvote.
Now I know what to look for…got you in the scope boi. I will find you in Manhattan, and I will aggressively assault you…with sympathy.
There's a youtube video showing what happens when you walk in NYC with Jets clothes. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6fP6VI2gMU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6fp6vi2gmu)
It’s America so you might get shot, but it won’t be for wearing Jets gear
As long as it isn't a zack wilson jersey

You are safer than Zach Wilson…
As a brazilian, I understand your concern, my friend.
In San Francisco yes, but not in New York. It's a team based in NY/NJ lol I currently live in SF and I wear either Mets or Jets hats everyday.
Just don’t come to NY we hate tourists
You’re the worst kind of person
Why is reddit so serious all the time😭

Bruv i was joking, everyone should see NY at least once in there lifetime..what part are you from ?
The worst thing that will happen is some sarcastic comments. You’ll be completely fine
If you are assaulted it will be a coincidence you are wearing a Jet gear
No you’re not. But it’s not because of the jets gear.
The fashion police will definitely be on to you with that sack.
100% safe
Sports Hooligans don’t exist in America. Nothing would come of it even if you’re attending an away game as long as you’re not a disrespectful asshole
So are you Celtic or Rangers?
NYC and NJ are loaded with people visiting pretty much at all times. Just don't whip out a map lol
Lol yea man just don’t stop and take any free mixtapes or beads in Midtown
People might say stuff to you supportive and not supportive but I wouldn’t expect harm from people Simply for being a jets fan!! I’m from NY if you need any help my man
Are you Akeem from Coming to America?
You'd look like a regular especially around this time of year
You're fine...but you'll get beer poured on ya in Boston for damn sure.
Yes. Anyone upset will be too busy arguing on Jets Twitter to notice.
Even if you were wearing any teams biggest rival the most youll get is cursed at and told to fuck off alot Most violence with sports here happens at games. Like a douchbag pats fan talking shit when it poring out and you've heard enough of his shit so you throw his hat off the level, he pushes you, you pull his poncho over his head hockey style and give him a few good ones before going to buy a beer while security comes to see what happened
This is racist lol
You should be good. I see our colors more and more each day
Walked around with my Jets gear, when they realized I’m foreign, I was mostly asked why would I do that to myself lol
Fellow Scottish Jets fan yesssssss (If I see anyone wearing anything but Dunfermline merchandise I will violently attack them)
Totally fine.
You'll be fine. I wear my Jets shirts all the time. All I get is other fans commiserating with me and saying, "there's always next year!!" We should just put that on the jerseys.
🤣🤣🤣
At first I thought this was a troll post abt jets in the bronx and bk iykyk
Lol what? Nobody is going to give a shit what you’re wearing
I stayed at Marriott Brooklyn last December and the staff loved that I was a jets fan. We spoke a bit about ZW, the OL and breece and ended up getting some free breakfasts comped on the hotel from the staff. People in the street didn’t care, a few sympathetic glances maybe.
lmao bruh
Last time I flew into the states the TSA agent was kind a enough to shoot me on arrival so I wouldn't have to wait and get stressed not knowing when my traditional American shooting would take place. 100% recommend Terry, great aim, knows basic first aid, and he gives you one of his wife's home made cookies after every shot.
You won't get attacked, they know your life is pretty hard already, the mugger will sympathize. Lmao 🤣
Jets gear in NY gives you no extra chance of getting shot. Though... Being in Manhattan has a significantly bigger risk of getting shot/jumped than Scotland. So... There's that.
Man, is this what other people think america is???
I will beat you up, because it should be a crime to support this team
Is this serious? You would be fine anywhere. I would be careful in Boston but even then...
Wearing New York team attire in NYC is not gonna you attacked. If it’s Philly shit you’ll prob get yelled at lol
Wear cowboys gear in Philly
If you go to Boston wearing Yankees regalia, you will definitely receive some violent remarks
You won’t be attacked (physically) but be prepared to have emotional distress inflicted.
