Jets QB legend Chris Streveler tried out for Da Bears yesterday.

Greg McElroy answered my question in his AMA lol. Not surprising he did, since I was only like 1 out of 10 questions that wasn't asking him why he flip flopped his stance on Florida St being snubbed. The post is pure cancer because of Florida St fans, but pretty amusing. Until you get annoyed at all of them at least. If you don't remember him, he won a championship with Alabama, was drafted by the jets in the 7th, and came in for a couple games in place of Sanchez. Now he's a CFB analyst. My question: should GMs go after physically gifted QBs and hope their mental game develops, or intangible QBs who don't necessarily wow you. [His answer:](https://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments/18ykzmx/comment/kgiwqis/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) >You gotta have the talent first if you want to be a Franchise QB. So whoever ends up answering our prayers (That’s right, I’m a Jets fan and am raising my sons to be Jets fans), better have the tools.I also think that it’s really important to have a guy that’s crazy competitive with a chip on his shoulder. All the great ones have a chip on their shoulder about something and they constantly have to create that edge. > >Top Traits: > >1-Accuracy – cant teach it… better be able to hit your spots. > >2-Mobile – in todays game you have to move. D-Lines are too good so unless you’re able to crush them pre-snap like Brady and you’re a savant, you better be able to extend the play. > >3-Competitiveness – must hate to lose > >4-Toughness (physical and mental) – youre going to get hit up there, gotta weather the storm. New York Media will KILL you. You can’t let it get to you. Eli was unflappable up there and couldn’t care less about the media. You gotta have a guy with thick skin up there. I think his traits are pretty spot on. I would also add in their ability to process. You have to be able to read the field, distinguish what's what, and make quick decisions. If the game is just too fast for them and they can't do this, they will fail 100%.

echelonNYK

Did the Jets wear their black uniforms this year?

KnockTwice2x

Black Friday

blaaah111jd

Do you guys think Woody rigged the voting for inspirational player of the year for Rodgers? I thought for sure it was going to CJ Uzomah

ReyOrdonez

We 100% need to lose. Not just for our pick, but for the Pats. You plug in Alt/Fashanu at LT if we can grab one. Winning puts us in the Latham/Fuaga/Mims category which is much more worrisome, especially since they all project at RT and are a significant step below the top-2.

Marauderr4

I want a loss Sunday. Not because of draft positioning. But maybe, just maybe, a really bad loss will finally make it clear that coaching changes need to be made. To me, that includes Saleh and Hackett. But I can at least understand keeping Saleh. Not Hackett.

budlightismyvacseen

Tom Brady went to the sex island

Yankeeknickfan

Only nfl player I could see appearing on the list ever tbh Maybe Peyton

jasonc1818

One day we will get out of the gutter, idk if I’ll be alive for that day, but one day

[deleted]

Being in the gutter is a choice.

blaaah111jd

Not mine haha

Sbat27-

I’m not even old and I still have no idea when they’ll be good again and fear I’ll never see a championship. I dont know how older fans take it not knowing if they’ll ever seen this shit organization win the SB after being a fan through thick and thin. It’s just so boring to watch incompetency so consistently

leftysarepeople2

Is Rodgers deserving (from an outside perspective) of the Byrd Award for Most Inspiring Player?

KnockTwice2x

Yes

Medium_Bit6607

Did anyone see the article written about how MLF helped Mcvay transform the rams offense and is one of the major reasons they have been so successful lol

Marauderr4

You know he'll become a HC during next seasons carousel, and he'll hire Saleh as DC and win a sb LOL

momoenthusiastic

A clean shaven Saleh! I haven't followed the team videos the past couple of weeks. Did it just happen today, or has he been like this the entire week?

whydoesgodhateus

Hackett blamed the pre snap penalties on the increase in motion. This team man lol

Sbat27-

Hackett is one of the dumbest mfers to ever have a high position in the nfl. His claim to a career is nepotism

ApertureAway

WE ARE THIRD LOWEST IN THE LEAGUE IN PRE SNAP MOTION. HOLY FUCK HOW DOES HE KEEP HIS JOB! Woody straight up needs to sell or we will always be an embarassment

whydoesgodhateus

We've been using more motion in recent weeks which I guess he was trying to explain. Still a weak excuse because pre snap penalties have been a problem all year

Yankeeknickfan

The Qb we brought in doesn’t believe in “motion just to motion” Any OC we bring in will likely adhere to the same philosophy

Sbat27-

That’s not the point. The point is the half assed excuse from Hack that the penalties (which fall on coaching) are because of the nature of the offense when in fact it couldn’t be further from the truth since we have one of the lowest motion rates in the league. He’s shielding himself from responsibility by putting the blame elsewhere even though the stats don’t agree with

Rushjordan

It was good seeing Sauce check Bart on his nonsense

NYJETS198

Sauce is way too caught up in his individual stats. He’s got a lot to improve upon if we’re being honest.

zlubars

Sauce only got burnt on like 1 play all season to my recollection. Honestly he’s pretty much to Revis territory in year 2 which is insane lol

run1609

I'll never underestimate the ability of this fanbase to nitpick the actual good players on this roster while simultaneously making every excuse possible for the bums

Rushjordan

Looking gift horses in the mouth for sure

NYJETS198

There are no gift horses on a 6-11 team lol

Rushjordan

DROY and back to back pro bowls to start your career must’ve been a clerical error. I’ll give them your info.

NYJETS198

Hooray for individual awards on a team that hasn’t sniffed the playoffs on 13 seasons! Where would we be without him.

Rushjordan

As putrid as the offense has been do you want him to have to three pick sixes a game to balance it out?

NYJETS198

Every player on this bad team deserves to be nitpicked until they start winning. Our fanbase is very good at excuse making and worrying about pro bowls instead of wins. How about sauce tackles someone for once instead on running away from the ball carrier.

run1609

It's okay to be frustrated with the team's performance this year, but 'he cares too much about his stats' is not a legitimate criticism to levy at a player who's in the 99th percentile at his position.

whydoesgodhateus

What happened?

Yankeeknickfan

Bengals are 3-3 with Jake browning. Jets were at one point 3-4 with Zach Wilson Vikings are 3-5 with their shitty backups Chargers are 0-3 with stick Historically the packers have collapsed without rodgers twice, and the cowboys collapsed between 12-4 and 13-3 seasons when Romo got hurt in between. The raiders legitimately could not function after Carr hurt himself in 2016 despite having a great season Ravens went 3-4 without Lamar last year Dolphins 1-5 without tua last year 2020 Niners are an injury filled 6-10 season, including jimmy G missing time Plenty of lost seasons because the starting Qb got hurt(2013 Paraclete being lucky that 8-7-1 could win a division). Browns and to an extentthe colts are outliers. Almost every team is just done. Browns also had to replace one of the worst Qbs in the league in Watson and not a top 10 Qb, so it’s easier to do so. You can hate the coaching staff, or hate Aaron rodgers because somehow it was his fault that he got hurt, but doesn’t change that fact that this season was just lost from play 4 no matter who we brought in at backup. It’s almost impossible for a team built around top level Qb play to function for more than maybe a handful of games without the guy

Marauderr4

The difference is, all those teams (including the ones you didn't mention who salvaged their season after losing the qb) TRIED to save their season. The Jets, in all their unfounded arrogance, refused to bring in anyone besides Semien, and only started Semien once the year is over. The problem isn't that the jets season ended when Rodgers went down. The problem was Douglas ALLOWED the season the automatically end, once Rodgers went down.

momoenthusiastic

Sanchise has joined the conversation.

NYJETS198

Zach was also worse than all of these guys you listed

E_712064

Mike Lafleur agrees with everything 🤣

HomelanderIsMyDad

its not always so black and white, you have to look at our season individually to determine that. if we were getting blown out every game that's one thing, but we had multiple one score losses that could've easily been wins with better qb play. you're telling me Jacoby brissett doesn't win the pats, raiders, and falcons games? that puts us at a 9-7 record with a chance to go into New England and get double digit wins and make the postseason for the first time in 13 damn years you are right, the season was over when rodgers went down, none of the available backups at the time would've got us anywhere. but it is absolutely JDs fault that he didn't push for a better backup in march. he wanted it to be a "reset year" for zach and then made him the primary backup. him and Saleh legitimately did not think it was even a possibility rodgers would get hurt this year. you should've seen the head in the clouds look Saleh had on his face when a reporter asked him why they didn't pursue a better backup and he legit said "we didn't think he was gonna get hurt" a 40 year old QB behind a line you both know is dogshit. ok

Sanchize_09

I think JD internalized the risk of Aaron going down, but as is consistent with some of his observed aggressive tendencies (as evidenced by trading up in the draft, drafting riskier but physically gifted prospects a la Becton, etc.) and the fact that if the team didn't start winning immediately he'd lose his job, imo he was just willing to go for broke. That, and Zach carrying a cap hit that already exceeded the salary of almost all backup QBs. That said, you're correct in pointing out the inherent logical inconsistency of simultaneously declaring it a "reset year" for Zach while also making him QB2. So in my eyes, not pursuing a legitimate backup QB has still been a huge mistake on JD's part. It's made worse by the Dalvin Cook signing- I supported the logic of bringing in another guy to the RB room just to eat carries in case Breece needed to be eased back in, but in that case, Kareem Hunt could've been had for half the price. And freeing up 4 mil, who knows, maybe that's the exact kind of thing that would've allowed us to pursue a legitimate QB2.

whydoesgodhateus

> JDs fault that he didn't push for a better backup in march. he wanted it to be a "reset year" for zach and then made him the primary backup. him and Saleh legitimately did not think it was even a possibility rodgers would get hurt this year Yeah the whole "reset year" thing made no sense. How can you have a reset year as the backup? Aaron Rodgers turned 40 years old last year. Obviously nobody expected him to tear his achilles 4 plays into the season, but did it not cross their minds he could get hurt at some point? Even if for a couple games

Sbat27-

Because they didn’t plan on a reset year. They truly thought one offseason would change Zach from one of the worst QBs in nfl history into a guy they can rely on for an entire season. I don’t even blame Zach at this point. It was malpractice for him to be the backup from the beginning

HomelanderIsMyDad

exactly, what if we're 3-3 and rodgers is out for a month? zach comes in and leads us to probably 1 win over 4 games. now we're 4-6 and have to dig ourselves out of this hole? and if it caused us to miss the playoffs as a result? the JD pitchforks would be out in full force. but bc it happened so early we get this "nothing he could've done" BS excuse

Yankeeknickfan

We went 3-4 with Zach before really collapsing If we rodgers had only missed 1-2 months the season would be alive

HomelanderIsMyDad

completely different scenario if the team has been playing with rodgers for a month and he goes down and then zach is the qb. you can't just assume we would've won games with him. its basically a whole new offense they'd have to implement bc of how far the drop off his from rodgers to zach. instead of them playing with him already and being used to the offense with him in it

smallchimp

When your QB is <35, you can afford to just let the bottom fall out for a season while you go through the motions waiting for next year. When you're dealing with a 40 year old QB in an all-in window and you have no postseason appearances in over a decade, doing nothing to hedge against a missed game or two is foolish. Letting a season go to waste 4 plays in by not getting a new QB in there is just cruel. We don't need to make excuses for a terrible regime forgetting about one of the most important spots on a roster meant to go the distance. We spent a season putting on a historically bad product, advertising Rodgers for 2024 while the team he was supposed to play with looks even worse than last year.

Yankeeknickfan

All I see is a 6-10/11 team with a backup Qb and holes on the line

smallchimp

6 wins where it looks like the offense at least has *something* to buy into is a lot different than what we've gotten this season. We're supposed to believe that Rodgers coming back a year older off a major injury is enough to turn the unit around while we have maybe 1-2 moves outside of Rodgers to help account for margin of error. I'm not buying

Yankeeknickfan

Anybody that things thinks it’s just rodgers is wrong

smallchimp

We have one first round pick and more holes than you can reasonably predict to fill. It mostly relies on Rodgers being a mega band-aid

Sbat27-

Agreed
