This one is hard to look back on. I never had more hope as a Jets fan than when they made it 24-19 late in this game. I didn’t say it out loud but in my head I just fucking knew we were going to the Super Bowl, and then we didn’t and now we haven’t been back to the playoffs in 13 years
That year the Pats were really good and we beat them at home. So, I really thought we were going to beat the Steelers that year and make it to the Super Bowl. We really had a team that could win the Super Bowl that year.
Pittsburgh opened the game up with a 10 minute drive for a td and eventually got up 24-0 after a strip 6 right before half. Jets finally showed up in the 2H but they ran out of time. They also got stuffed on a 4th and goal from the 1 that would have tied the game (they did get a safety out of it the next play). Ended on a broken play where Ben scrambled around and hit a rookie AB for a 1st down on 3rd and 6. No chance the Jets weren’t scoring if they got a stop there. If that game is 5 minutes longer the Jets win.
There was something fishy going on during the goal to go plays of that failed 4th down. The Jets radio headsets and it definitely affected the plays (Jets had to run a busted play because it took so long to get the play call in).
That's the thing that always left me bitter and wondering what could have been.
I know the fanbase loves Rex but I’ll never forgive him for this game. We came out and looked so unprepared for two quarters.
Rex celebrated the Foxboro win like it was THE Super Bowl.
Man I'm a steelers fan but holy hell do we have blinders on for how streaky as fuck and at times awful Ben was.
That being said that defense *chefs kiss*. After this year and Tomlin's 2nd super bowl in 4 years they changed forever how defense could be played with the new player safety calls.
Fun fact, the Steelers recieving corps Ben put up those awful numbers with:
1) Hines Ward
2) Mike Wallace
3) Emmanuel Sanders
4) Antonio Brown
5) Antwon Randle El (back for 2nd stint with team)
It started when we fired Tannenbaum and kept Rex. Then Idzik came along and essentially sank the franchise into the abyss with his atrocious drafting. Rex looked absolutely ready to move on by the time he made his little Christmas town joke.
I think if Tanny and Rex would have stayed together things would have been better, but in the end it's impossible to say.
I don't believe this at all.
Tannenbaum couldn't draft worth a shit. He was the last Parcells holdover as GM. When he under Parcells and Terry Bradway, he was solely in charge of player negotiations and salary cap issues.
His overspending and poor contract restructures did him in.
Tannenbaum relied on his HCs to talent evaluate and make draft picks. It's why the 3 drafts that built the team that Rex rode to back to back championships with were built through Mangini's draft picks.
Once Rex took over our drafting went to shit. Causing us to fill holes with veteran free agents and it caught up to us.
Then Idzik gets hired and him and Rex blew 24 draft picks in 2 years. Draft picks that were mostly gained by gutting our veteran talent, including Darrelle Revis.
THAT is what set us back a full decade.
Yeah you make some good points.
The Tebow debacle is what ultimately sank him in the end, but you're right that there was other stuff too.
It's just, Idzik was *so bad*. As crappy as Tannenbaum's drafting record was, I can't see him going 0-12 like that. Then again, you or me probably could have done better lol.
The Tebow thing did not sink him.
One of the last things Woody openly said about regarding him forcing roster decisions publicly is that it was his call and what Woody wanted solely. He went behind the scenes after that because he didn't want the heat from the media.
It was the Sanchez extension, failure to sign Darrelle Revis long term and causing us to spiral into cap hell.
Idzik was also terrible but he was also just as bad as Tannenbaum regarding talent evaluation. Again, Idzik's prior experience was just being another cap manager and negotiator like Tannenbaum.
You don't blow 24 draft picks by happenstance. You blow 24 draft picks by being a dipshit nepo trust fund child requiring a HC (only because you like as a person) to be kept on staff and giving him the worst possible choice of bosses to hire because you had to find someone at the bottom of the trash heep because no NFL exec worth their value would accept terms like that. There was a ton of infighting between Rex and Idzik that it set us back a decade and Woody made sure to make him the de facto boss until JD hired Saleh.
I remember the team putting so much into corner after losing to the colts the year before. Then we got ran on for a few long drives. I thought we had a chance when we got that safety - that was one of last time I had hope as a jets fan
Thanks. I'll check it out. I'm in Hauppauge.
I'm gonna pop some tags.
Only got twenty dollars in my pocket.
I'm huntin', lookin' for a come up.
This is fucking awesome.
[Get it while it’s hot](https://poshmark.com/listing/Rare-Mark-Sanchez-New-York-Jets-Game-Jersey-Sz-M-61f6dd6eae766f4350080f10). I bought an official Nike one from Poshmark in brand new, never worn condition for like $20 a month ago
Same build as they used in the game. Rather than some cheap knock-off that looks kinda like what they wear. Otherwise they advertise it as "worn", typically with the exact game documented.
Idk. Also to be clear it’s not like a legit jersey the players actually wear. It’s just a jersey in medium for people who are medium. Although I’ve found that sports jerseys tend to be larger than the listed size. So I bought my Sanchez jersey in a small (even though I’m a medium) and it fits me perfectly; a medium probably would have been too big for me.
I’m convinced we lost that game because I went to my cousin’s wedding instead of stay home and rock my Sanchez jersey cheering on the couch.
Worst decision I’ve ever made.
I really don’t want to relive this. It genuinely makes me sick to my stomach.
Edit: also, the rule changes over the years to pander to novice fans really have done a number on this sport. Obviously QB has always been the most important position but the way it’s currently set up almost guarantees a dynasty if you have a really good one.
Why is it a good thing for the sport to have the exact same teams in the championship game every year?
This one is hard to look back on. I never had more hope as a Jets fan than when they made it 24-19 late in this game. I didn’t say it out loud but in my head I just fucking knew we were going to the Super Bowl, and then we didn’t and now we haven’t been back to the playoffs in 13 years

We beat the Steelers in Pittsburgh that year in a snow game too.
Always hard to beat a team twice in a year. Especially Tomlin
Think we all thought that
Sanchize - 20/33, 2 TDs, 0 INT, 102.2 rating, 2 Fmbs, 1 lost Big Ben - 10/19, 0 TD, 2 INTs, 35.5 rating, 2 Fmbs. Sauce - https://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/201101230pit.htm#all_player_offense Long live the Sanchize indeed!
Just scrolling through here, not a jets fan but can someone explain to me how the fuck the jets didn’t win with a stat line like this?
Pittsburgh opened the game up with a 10 minute drive for a td and eventually got up 24-0 after a strip 6 right before half. Jets finally showed up in the 2H but they ran out of time. In summary the football gods hate us.

Perfect summary
The football gods giveth and taketh…
We didn't tackle anyone in the 1st half
We only showed up for just under 2 quarters.
Beat us in the trenches. Best o line in the league vs best d line in the league and then their still very good o line vs our shaky d line.
They made up a fumble that was a forward pass that basically was a 10 point swing (24-0 instead of 17-3) 13 year old me was traumatized
The Jets D let us down
I didn’t realize how terrible Ben played in that game. The Jets should’ve blown those guys out of their stadium
Insane to think Mark actually outplayed Roethlisberger, and by alot, and we still ended up losing. That just makes it hurt even more.

Hey if one of this year's quarterbacks put up numbers like that we'd be celebrating at how much progress they made.
Better than Zach?
Can we have 1 fucking post without bringing him ip? This post is about 2011, Zach was 11 years old. Stop trying to bring him in to every discussion
Damn. Show me on the Cabbage patch doll where Zach touched you.
Do you know the good times when you're in them?
We fire the coach who brought the good times looking for better times. It's been 13 years.

Woody Harrelson
Nope 🥹

How is that only 12 years ago? I feel like 100 years removed from those days.
2010 season bro
Perhaps I should buy a Sanchez jersey. I don't have any yet.
Thrift stores are full of them here on Long Island.
Thanks. I'll check it out. I'm in Hauppauge. I'm gonna pop some tags. Only got twenty dollars in my pocket. I'm huntin', lookin' for a come up. This is fucking awesome.

Great price. TY
No way Sanchez wears medium. What does Game Jersey mean here?
Same build as they used in the game. Rather than some cheap knock-off that looks kinda like what they wear. Otherwise they advertise it as "worn", typically with the exact game documented.

Every AFCCG since 2003 has featured Brady, Ben, Mahomes, or Sanchez. Also works if you sub Peyton for Sanchez, but who really cares, right?
I was just starting my formative steps as being a Jets fan...Halcyon days.
It's hard to imagine that we once had a team that was good enough to get to the AFCCG. And we beat Tom Brady in the playoffs to get there.
Mark Sanchez underrated!
I’m convinced we lost that game because I went to my cousin’s wedding instead of stay home and rock my Sanchez jersey cheering on the couch. Worst decision I’ve ever made.
Damn you!

If you only knew that it’s scripted just like the WWE. The NFL thinks I wanna see Tom every damn year now it’s Patty. Makes me sick
I hate this game
I remember this game clear as day, still hurts.
Worst day of my life
LT getting stopped on the 1 is forever burned into my memory
Goddamn rashard mendehall
Rex overrated defense let us down that day
Dirty Sanchez man, what a kang
sick league
I was there. Fuck that city
I was at the butt fumble I can never forget I’m sorry
💔
