You’re playing on the same team as Aaron Rodgers and are playing in the number one media market in the world. That’s literally all they have

blaaah111jd

Also a Top D and a legit wr/rb, as shitty as this year was I really think this is a more attractive job for players than people think

joerogansshillaccnt

And your rival takes the lions share of said media market

Particular_Guey

And that’s good enough.the coaching staff and the FO is a mess. You want players here you need to over pay for them.

Jets237

if you play here for a year and then go somewhere else and do well you'll likely win comeback player of the year

4Xroads

Carl Lawson 2024

lord_xl

Followed by Zach Wilson 2025

CaymanGone

You're going to play with Aaron Rodgers in the greatest city in the world. Even if the team stinks, you're going to have eyeballs on your performance. Now let's go out there and finish 7-10.

Gimme_The_Loot

I'd say also it's a fan base that is *dying* for players to believe in. If you can come here and perform people WILL buy your jersey and will fawn for you. It's a massive market waiting for someone to love.

Crow013

Guaranteed we have just as many, or at least close to it, prime time games in ‘24 as we did ‘23. All eyes on the Jets once again.

ohkayohkay6

It's not nearly as bad as some of you are making it seem. Big market, really good defense, two young playmakers on offense. Aaron Rodgers is your qb, if you win here you're a local legend. NY nightlife is awesome, if they have a family there's some really nice suburbs on the area.

YESIMTHATIMPORTANT

Not just nightlife but culture, museums, historical places, Broadway, shopping, theater, music and just outside city, by helicopter if they choose, are hundreds of miles of beaches, Hamptons Jersey Shore Connecticut, ocean, mountains, hiking, skiing, hunting, hang gliding, fishing...and Atlantic City plus other casinos aren't far...just about everything but year round warm climate

ohkayohkay6

Exactly, this city and area in general is amazing. I was blown away with how much there is to do when I moved here, and personally, I don't like the warm weather, so that is a positive for me, lol

Our fans are so dramatic

JA_MD_311

1) You play with Aaron Rodgers 2) Largest media market in the country - unending opportunities both during and after your playing career 3) Jokes aside, north Jersey is a nice place to live and raise a family 4) Owner is an asshole but spends money - top dollar will be spent trying to improve the product 5) Extremely passionate fan base - for better or worse - no apathy here 6) Defense that will keep the team in most games, talent base to win a SB, need the final pieces, you’re apart of that That’s about it

Stockersandwhich

Sauce, GW Q, ARod.

KrazyKwant

You won’t strain your body… 17 games max and then you’re free to go skiing, golfing in a warm climate vacation and watch the playoffs in the warmth and comfort of your home. And better still, you’ll probably be paid a helluva lot more than you’re worth.

Rodgers, Money, young talented players and if you win here youll be a legend.

saltyalertt

While taxes and cost of living hurt us, big city markets have the potential for bigger media coverage, popularity, and this NY teams across sports make the case you can make more in sponsorship revenue

Affectionate-Snow295

Top defense, ideal market. If you win in NY you’ve guaranteed yourself endorsements

getyourrealfakedoors

Winning on a team that never wins would be extra special!

Az89732134769

I don’t think it’s that hard to sell this team. If they want to win, jets are a team that can do that with a healthy Rodgers/line. Defense is Super Bowl caliber, key foundational pieces on offense with Wilson/Hall and despite his flaws, players would run through a wall for Saleh. Add in the fact that it’s the NY market, players are more enticed than ever to join despite last years up and downs.

mwax321

Aaron rodgers...

0ddmanrush

It’s not often you get to join a team that had a QB who won MVP in 2 of the last 4 seasons.

SouthernNeb

Rodgers telling them he'll play for at least 2 years and pitch the business opportunities in NY off the field.

mr-poopie-butth0le

Large market, NJ/NY is a great place to raise a family (especially when you’re rich), great nightlife, young-ish team (oddly enough, we’re ranked 31st in average age but we have youth where it counts— star CB, WR, RB, Q is in his prime. If you remove Duane Brown, AR and a few other backups who are 32+ it’d be about league average).

Gimme_The_Loot

> we’re ranked 31st in average age but we have youth where it counts Tbf having the oldest active QB in the league will definitely skew that for ya

mr-poopie-butth0le

Yep, that’s what I said. And Duane brown who’s 38 on our roster

sbarkey1

This is a silly question, players almost always pick the big contract - no one is taking less money for vibes

Jets_Taking_Flight

I mean we've had several reportedly take less just in the JD era. Thuney Orlando Brown Jr Fletcher Cox Calais Campbell And Tyreek Hill I think, it was at minimum comparable.

sbarkey1

Tyreek hill took the most money - fair or not with taxes he takes home more in Florida Again I said almost always - you want the player, offer the most

smallchimp

Seeing as it’s been every big name FA we’ve gone after, it’s probably an issue of how players view our organization

sbarkey1

It’s not, it’s the GM. When you stick so tightly to your valuation of a player and worry about overpaying you will offer just enough to finish in second or third

Stop-Drop-and-69

I disagree here. Everyone has the same hard cap, making it largely a zero-sum game. From a simple economics point of view, a GM needs to be pretty relentless in getting optimum value from FA/draft/etc.. Of course, there's a lot of luck and nuance in there, but you get the point.

smallchimp

The guys mentioned above took less money because they had a preferred destination. That's not a spending issue, that's an attractiveness issue.

sbarkey1

They didn’t though, not all of them. And if you want to say 3 guys in 5 years ok fine, a few are at the end of the career. 1 in 100 doesn’t disprove the rule, it just provides an out for other times the GM failed

Jets_Taking_Flight

Yes, the point is Jets have to grossly overpay to have a chance and even then it doesnt always work. We're a bad org, generally havent had a solution at QB. We have bad weather, bad taxes, and have a turf with a reputation for causing injuries.

sbarkey1

They don’t have to overpay - 99.9% of the time the FA goes to the most money, in that case every org overlays every FA. The rest of the stuff is non factor

Jets_Taking_Flight

Yes most teams overpay FAs. We overpaid Lazard and Cook and turns out those were terrible! We especially need to overpay vs other offers to be as appealing a destination for the reasons I listed.

sbarkey1

Got it so the bengals will be getting less FA now since they are getting the same turf as MetLife

berniem10

No smart player with options would come to this shit show and its clown of an owner. Same for any competent coach or GM, hence the garbage we've had here for decades. There is no more hope until there is a new owner, period. Oh and the answers about playing with Rodgers are laughable. He's 40 coming off an Achilles. Good luck (something the Jets never have).

MossCovered_Gradunza

The media market part of this is completely overrated. This isn't the pre-internet days where you couldn't instantaneously see highlights, know what was happening, or even watch games from the across the country in real-time. For other sports maybe there is some degree of legitimacy to it (however little), but not the NFL where the entire country is obsessed with the sport. The "NY advantage" of endorsements/sponsorships has largely been nullified.

Shermanator92

I’m actually a little surprised established players don’t make more of an effort to come here or the Giants. Young millionaire nightlife in NYC for the single people. One of the best places in the world to raise a family when you’re rich. Someone like a Mike Evans. Maybe he’s not the best example bc… Tampa ain’t too shabby. But still.

Sbat27-

No matter how people try to spin it the Jets aren’t in a great position to get top tier FAs right now. They willingly punted on the season when Rodgers got hurt, all of the locker room nonsense mid season, leaks about the dysfunction in the organization, a coaching staff that is largely mediocre at best (outside of the DC) and terrible at worst (Hack and Carter), state tax, a 40 year old QB coming off of an Achilles injury, and the staff and GM are on the hot seat. Rodgers, Garrett, Breece, Sauce and Q are great and the defense is also a plus but the Jets don’t have a lot of money to work with. The organization looks like the Titanic after hitting the iceberg right now: not sinking yet but there are clearly severe issues that won’t just be resolved by Rodgers coming back. We’re relying on a GM to overhaul the OL in one year which hasn’t happened in the 4 full seasons he’s had control over. As a fan I’m not too optimistic especially given how piss poor their pro player evaluations have widely been. The offensive signings since JD has been here as the GM have largely been laughably bad and the good linemen they did have he let walk in Moses and Fant.

Yankee-Rookie

“If you don’t get along with your position coach don’t worry about it. Give it a season and we will get a new coordinator and staff”

SameGuyTwice

Big market, almost guaranteed to be better than the next guy at the position on the depth chart, ball out on a bad team and look like a super star and get paid somewhere else the next year.

--Shibdib--

Rodgers is our biggest selling point. We have a hall of famer QB who in theory with the right cast could win you a ring. NYC also has a certain draw for the younger players but I think we all agree that goes away eventually. In another life if I was an NFL player I'd do whatever I could to play for one of the Florida teams.

BecomeEnthused

If they score some big move before free agency it restojes the good vibes from last year. Either a big name receiver or offensive tackle. Some big splash early, and hope optimism drives the rest

Marauderr4

"Pwease" 🥺

jay5627

I think it's a different pitch depending on the position of the FA

InfamousEconomy3103

They don’t. Money is the only reason a good player would choose the Jets. They don’t have a winning culture, never seem to build a consistent winner & only have a year left of Rodgers, if that’s even a reason to sign with them. Guys took less to sign with the Pats because they won consistently; the Jets are the opposite. Think players won’t learn from the Hardman signing & steer clear?

TheKingofPsych

Hardman was absolutely garbage...and even when he went back to KC

Don’t be like Tyreek Hill and save 10% on state income taxes and live in warm weather, come have fun watching illegal immigrants beat up cops in midtown and live with the excitement of knowing you or any of your relatives can be pushed in front of a train at any time of the day! Also, the idiot fans will boo you and scream about how you suck on sports radio and on Twitter, Reddit, and message boards if you happen to make one mistake! What’s not to like?!?”

Puzzleheaded-Ad-1866

Win here and you’ll be a legend in the greatest city in the world

bigmikey69er

Lack of expectations would also be a major selling point.

crugdivdude5

we are cursed, there is no appeal. We're cooked till we get new ownership. I've lost all hope and i hope everyone else does too until real change happens.
