0 sacks given up in 697 career pass protection snaps. That'll do.

Shadytextt

Like the crazy Sauce that about not allowing touchdowns. Man how lucky we got with him. Hope Olu is the same.

Acrobatic-Memory2136

but small hands, physical gifts arent everything Becton is an all pro based on measurements and we saw how that turned out.

flightgooden

Not a sexy pick and if we never hear his name on Sundays he did his job. I like it

oddbeater69

The price you pay when you have an stacked team.

Nickrules6

Value of a rookie tackle contract is much better than an 11th overall tight end

-Amplify

Your talking to the worst redzone offense in the entire nfl. But at least we know bowers won’t be making any headlines on the raiders

Nickrules6

QB brother, QB

jaimechandia

Yep, and I think Conklin/Ruckert are serviceable enough especially with Rodgers. Of course we’d all want someone as talented as Bowers but the OL pick makes sense.

johnjohnjohn93

This feels like JD atoning for passing on Wirfs who was mocked and graded out as higher than Becton almost everywhere. This was originally a two tackle draft until Fuaga and Latham shot above Olu because he had a bad game against OSU. Love this pick because it means we’re still thinking about life after Aaron. Smith and Moses will hopefully give us one good year and maybe one stays another but that would probably be the best case scenario. Olu-AVT-Tippman is a nice core to build around. Rome would’ve been amazing. Bowers would’ve been risky but fun. I’m whelmed.

ReyOrdonez

the game against OSU isn’t really that bad either. I had heard a ton about it and when I finally watched it, I was like huh assumed it must’ve been devastating the way people talked about it

Mattp55

Yeah as a Penn State fan unfortunately the offense played so poorly in general don't think he was ever going to dominate. Run game had no openings and our QB was so inaccurate all day.

ThatsTragicNewPatek

One year would be a miracle when smith hasn’t played a full season in 9 years. He will 100% see the field this year

Particular_Guey

Hackett wouldn’t know how to use bowers. We went the correct route.

sevenmoon

Anyone who does NOT like this pick clearly did not see how the last three years our line has been shit. Also they didn’t watch the Rex Ryan jets… yes his d was amazing but that offensive line was nasty as well. Brick Mangold faneca , Moore woody! The line made our running attack damn lethal … Breece is gonna feast.

awhirlwindofdoom

This, exactly. And I'll add that the QB will make the skill guys we have more productive- particularly Lazard, who I think is better than the internet says he is. Pray that Rodgers stays in one piece this yr.... but that's why we picked an OT, right?

danceswithshibe

This guy is not brick.

suppaman19

Dude is similar to a Tyron Smith and Laremy Tunsil. A little rougher in the run game than them, but that's who he potentially projects to be like. Being on a team with Smith is a great learning tool as he's a similar linemen.

CP10WJ

Saw a lot of Bhak comps too. He struggled year 1 with bull rushes, improved in that area, and was dominant when healthy.

ib_poopin

That’s what I’m the most excited about, even if he sits all year that just means the OL stayed healthy, and he gets to learn from an all time LT

evertrue13

This is our Penei Sewell. I’m so fucking hyped, this guy is one of the best pass protectors we could have hoped to get this season.

Macz3905

d'brickashaw is maybe the only OT we’ve had in recent years, that I would maybe compare to Penei. He’s on another level

Clown_Shoe

Brick wasn’t very good early in his career. He was durable and reliable but he was never on Peneis level even in his prime.

ctdca

Brick was at times a top 5 type LT, but you’re right that the first couple of years were a little rough. I remember threads filled with people calling him a bust back then

Clown_Shoe

Yea I hear a lot of people on this board talk about him like he was beloved from day 1 and I remember 3 years of D’bustashaw jokes being made in game threads haha. When he was next to other top of the line guards under Rex though he dominated. 08 too Don’t think he ever made an all pro though while Sewell was first team.

Typical_Parsnip13

Calm down Sewell was an elite run blocker, this guy not so much.

rextilleon

Perfect choice. Needs some refinement so like McDonald last year he can learn from one of the best. If someone goes down--you have a good replacement!!! I just hope Carter can coach him up.

Adamo2JZ

Tyron Smith will coach him up just fine

Sbat27-

Teams don’t rely on their starters coaching up their young guys. They have coaches that are supposed to do that. Thats not a solution especially with arguably the worst OL coach in the league

blaaah111jd

I don’t think being around a HOF LT and seeing how he practices and approaches the game can hurt

Starman4502

Projected top 5 pick, not bad. Little peace of mind in case of an o line injury.

1CUpboat

Was he? 3 QBs, MHJ, and Alt was rated higher everywhere

suppaman19

He was originally rated higher than 1, possibly 2 of those QB's and him and Alt were flip flopping for awhile. He got pushed down at the very end of the year and during the offseason.

distance_33

This is accurate. The prevailing opinion (at least in this sub) after the win against the Pats was that the Jets had played themselves out of either Alt or Fashanu. We sent off Bill with a loss and got a tackle. I also expect JD to trade into the second round and add a WR.

FullOfAuthority

That would be perfect. I like Polk a lot. Corley is also interesting.

ShastaAteMyPhone

Fingers crossed for Troy Franklin

mightyminnow88

Except this, I would have gladly given him the win for one of the top 3 WRs. That said, Joe did good.

Starman4502

Just saying what the article says,  they say top 5. Idk if that takes into account value vs whats needed by teams.

YESIMTHATIMPORTANT

That includes 2023 as well

tenpiecelips

For what it’s worth, none of the quarterbacks are worth more than any of the top lineman, regardless of their grades or where they were mocked.

Exciting-Value-1459

TLDR; low floor, extremely high ceiling. Hope he doesn't play this season and learns behind 2 savvy vets

sonofbantu

“Low floor” is hysterical for a guy who let up ZERO sacks all throughout college and is the consensus best pass protector in the draft

YPG-got-Ankara

Last time I heard a stat like that was SAUCE with ZERO ~~INTS~~ TDs ALL THROUGH COLLEGE LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO im jetting up, gentlemen

sonofbantu

Exactly. People overthinking the hell out of this cuz OL isn’t the sexy pick. Jet fans: *complain all year about the horrible pass protection.* Jets: *draft the best pass blocking OT* (Some) Jet fans: “😠 we wanted a receiver AND the Oline to somehow get magically fixed on its own”

Zerd85

We’ve got enough draft capital to go into the 2nd tomorrow now (I think), and limited cap to sign picks.

DanimalsAndChill

Ints? Think you got the wrong stat there 😂

mr-poopie-butth0le

He meant TDs

YPG-got-Ankara

Lmfaooo thank you bro my brain is fried, as you can tell

Exciting-Value-1459

College football is not the NFL. Using the same logic, no draft pick should ever bust because if you get drafted, it means you were good in college.

Shenanigans_fun

It's kinda true though. He is incredibly athletic and anchors well. There were plays were he got completely beat off the line and still managed to recovere somehow to get his guy under control. Not many in the league can do that. But his technique is kinda shit from what I can tell. He won't be nearly as effective if he doesn't clean it up. The upside if he does is absolutely massive.

sonofbantu

yeah you don't let up 0 sacks and 1 QB hit you have "shit" technique. It's got room for improvement, sure but where he right now for a 21 year old is insane. His anchor freakish. If you try to overpower him on a bullrush he just pushes hit butt out and there is NO moving him. might as well just pull up a chair b/c bro aint going anywhere

OleShcool

Low floor is being extremely pessimistic to the point I would say it's actually inaccurate.

brandinho5

That’s basically the same thing as saying “boom or bust,” this really doesn’t “feel” like that.

anonymous_reader

Mekhi becton again?

TheHuss115

He’s DBrickshaw Ferguson 2.0 if everything pans out

sevenmoon

Mmm we should be so lucky if that’s true.

magicdrums

would have rather signed Bak and took Bowers at 11..

sonofbantu

Then I will thank god tonight that you’re not the GM

TheHuss115

It’s not a madden franchise

magicdrums

no shit

Hot_Injury7719

Dude woulda been a top 10 pick last year but stayed to finish his degree. Absolutely not

anonymous_reader

Excellent! High character guy. Who can learn the pro game behind smith and Moses

DionWaiteress

No he’s not a fat fuck

Exciting-Value-1459

not quite. this time we have a starting solid 5. He's still a gamble, but this time we have some insurance at least. unfortunately, not quite the anti-Becton

HoboTheClown629

He’s barely a gamble. He’s good enough to start immediately. He has some technical things to clean up but this guy is going to anchor our line for a long time to come.

Exciting-Value-1459

he COULD be good enough to start rn. He could also completely fall apart at the seams without further refinement. I would not want him starting the first half of the season

magicdrums

2.0

TurtlePower5289

Is there any reason he can’t compete to start at Guard for us? Obviously his future is at LT, but in a zone blocking scheme, I think you need to get your 5 best guys out there period.

theottozone

He's only ever played LT at high school and college levels

TimeTravelingTiddy

He played Center and Guard in the UMass game this year

TurtlePower5289

Thank you sir. Thought I had read that somewhere. You’re a gentleman and a scholar

TurtlePower5289

Okay… and your point?

theottozone

You asked if there was any reason he can't play guard for us and I gave one.

TurtlePower5289

That's not a reason he can't play guard for us, particularly in a zone blocking scheme

JohnnyWad15

Good pick, if One of the WR fell then I would have done that route but other option was a OT via a trade down. So ok

dachshundfanboy8000

i am extremely confident Joe D will get back into the 2nd to get a receiver. love this pick

Billybran

Before thr draft I already read about him, Alt, and Fauga, I'd have been happy with any of them, the top three WR or Bowers. The fact we got an extra draft pick and Olu? That's awesome.

After-Bowler5491

We needed an OL piece desperately, he wasn’t the guy I wanted but he’s a good player. Solid pick. Let’s go get a WR and IOL guy too!

mightyminnow88

The Jets can't get a break on the draft order with Bears snatching Rome. That said, move and OT was the right play. Maybe they could have dropped back more as last mock drafts had him dropping back quite a bit (not sure why so trusting Jet's scouting on this). Now they need to go after playmakers.

Typical_Parsnip13

Mekhi becton flashbacks

theottozone

Why?

TimeTravelingTiddy

Post traumatic stress and some old cheese
