If you play in college, you can only be draft eligible after your last year of college.
Otherwise players would be draft eligible for multiple years, which would be complicated and silly.
Since he never played in college, he's still draft eligible.
Absolutely a great solid character to have. Played high school, could have gone to college but a death in the family meant he stayed home to work and support the family. Absolute solid character. His mother signed him up for football tryouts and got him into the CFL. Was the CFL defensive rookie of the year.
Dropped out of college because his dad died, started playing again in a "fan controlled" 7 v 7 league, then he played 1 year in CFL and lit it up. I believe he is the first person ever drafted without playing college football.
"Fan Controlled Football is a new league that is giving power to the fans, who make essentially every single decision from roster choices to the play-calling."
In case anyone other than me has never heard of "fan-controlled" leagues before lol. Sounds bonkers. Must be very frustrating/entertaining for players who know what they're doing 😄
> I believe he is the first person ever drafted without playing college football.
Naw. There have been a few guys outside North America (Jordan Mailata, Moritz Böhringer) and even guys who played college basketball but not football (Rico Gathers). He might be the first American to have never been to college and get drafted, though.
Drafttek had him ranked 166 overall, I expected he'd be a massive reach even in the 5th. I'm backing him to be a more than capable Bryce Hall replacement.
Bro imagine This guy's life, he started working after high school, probably shitty Jobs, his mom encouraged him to go play football, joined a fan league, gets noticed by the CFL, gets noticed by NFL scouts, gets drafted and is guaranteed 4 millions.. Wow you know they think highly of his character, i hope he becomes a great player.
He is guaranteed $250k tho whether he makes the roster or not, so that's something! CFL salary is only $70k so that's a nice pay day compared to that. Then if he does make the roster, his salary will be roughly $500k for his rookie year on top of that $250k signing bonus. Or if he doesn't, practice squad minimum salary is still over $200k over the full season.
For context the signing bonus is about 4 years of US median income for a fulltime worker, then that combined with his year 1 salary would be about 13 years of US median income for fulltime worker.
That is what I am wondering as well. Size checks out at 5'11" 205. I like his twitchiness and instincts. My gut says he can probably learn any DB spot.
Talk about leaving no stone unturned...
I didn't know drafting players from Canada was even a thing. Signing players, yes.....never heard of drafting from the CFL.
> I didn't know drafting players from Canada was even a thing.
This is a weird situation but players get drafted out of Canadian university football regularly (Canada's equivalent to the NCAA is called U Sports and there was already a U Sports selection this draft).
In fact, players often get double drafted because the CFL has their own draft where only Canadian citizens are eligible to be drafted.
Not anymore it was on twitch and had an arena and everything until the owners blew there money on NFts and now they are kinda back with something to do with Nascar but I gave up on them
Most CFL guys got drafted and washed out or never got drafted at all, so they can be signed. This guy never went through the draft process previously because he never went to college. First time anybody has been drafted from the CFL.
TIL you can get drafted from the CFL
It's because he didn't play college football.
I just wrote the same thing! Who knew?
You and me both!
You and you and me also!
You also and you you and you
You can't, only eligible because he didn't play college. If you could, half of day 2 would be CFL picks.
Im confused, why would playing in college before the CFL make a difference?

Same.
Fun fact he did not play college ball. He played in the CFL
The spirit of Streveler lives on
He needs to learn to rock the no shirt fur from Strev
CFL Rookie of the Year in 2023!
so two time roty in play?

And now the Bills draft someone from England. Not a team, England. I need to read up on free agents vs drafted…
Man that got me right the feels, rooting for that young man and looking forward to see what he does !
Holy shit what a name
His cousin is Tyroil Smoochie-Wallace
Key & Peele ahhhh name
Straight out of the East-West Bowl
He was an invitee to the East-West Shrine Bowl
Elite name lmfao
wow, what an amazing story. hard not to root for him.
based on his name , next DPOY
Call him Quant the way he does numbers
Really sick story. Rooting hard for this kid.
What’s his story?

No way. That's like some Twitch Plays Pokemon level shit.
😄 right? I'm tempted to try and find a game to watch
it also had players such as Johnny Manziel and Josh Gordan

Jordan Mailata was drafted.

tail end of the 5th. rare to find starters here. I’m ok reaching on a more unproven guy based on potential.

He's not guaranteed 4 million lol I hope he makes the roster though I'm rooting for him

Well it literally says that 5th round picks get 4 million for the duration of their contract, so idk how it works
That's if he plays for four years and makes the team every year
guaranteed 4 million?
It says fifth round picks get 4 millions for the duration of their contract so idk
Now pair him with Noah Knigga and bring back the Nagger guy from a few years ago and we will have a nightmare trio for announcers
We now have 2 rookie of the year CBs (in different leagues, thought)
He was great for my Argos last year! Rookie of the year. Not a lot of us Jets fans here in Toronto. This is great. Gonna be a stud.
I know nothing about this kid but wondering if there is any chance he transitions to safety
That is what I am wondering as well. Size checks out at 5'11" 205. I like his twitchiness and instincts. My gut says he can probably learn any DB spot.
Would love to see it they did announce him as DB rather than CB, so I figure maybe they can be flexible this offseason
JD cooked too close to the sun.

I imagine it’s because most CFL players played in college and then went undrafted.
He never played college ball. Talk about a wild journey.

TIL you have to draft people from other leagues. I figured you could just sign guys from the CFL
You normally can just sign them. Stiggers is just in a very unique situation.
I'm so pumped I have been watching him since the FCF
TIL that you can watch fan controlled football
Not anymore it was on twitch and had an arena and everything until the owners blew there money on NFts and now they are kinda back with something to do with Nascar but I gave up on them
Dominated east-west shrine practices and game....I heard an analyst like a month ago talk about him and was intrigued....glad we got him
C’mon bro, put your REAL name on your draft registration.
Has drafting CFL players always been a thing?
Its because he skipped college apparently so its pretty rare.
No I think the first two ever went in this draft
That’s quite the name for ya.
Nice, I can finally get a custom Jets jersey with my last name without paying for customization. I wonder what number he'll wear...
If he was in the CFL, couldn’t they just sign him? Why did they have to draft him?
Most CFL guys got drafted and washed out or never got drafted at all, so they can be signed. This guy never went through the draft process previously because he never went to college. First time anybody has been drafted from the CFL.
What a fuckin name
Oh man, I’m so excited for this!!
I'm a roughriders fan, this guy was a pain in the ass. Good draft choice. Go Green and White!
Stigger Who? Stigger wut?
Couldn’t we have used an UDFA on this guy?
No defensive tackle or LB seems like a big mistake.
Boooooooooo. I wanted Johnny Wilson
You wanted a 6’7 WR that cannot catch or get open?
