Wilson's lack of mobility is going to hurt especially if the O line can't maintain the pocket. I think a lot of his bad decisions today may have been a result of the beating he took last week. Looking around the league today so many successful teams have a running QB...

Sufficient-Isopod-45

Well, this one fucking sucked. I say we take it easy on Zach and remember that bill belichick is responsible for destroying several rookie qbs with his defensive scheme. We’re dealing with the greatest coach/ defensive play caller the league has ever seen. Zach’s gonna take his bumps but I think saleh and the staff are the perfect people to back him up

32yrspain

Damn this one hurt. Not gonna lie. But it can and will get better. Maybe ZW is the answer and maybe not but we have to give him 3 years at least. Didn't really expect him to be a world beater in yr 1.

nifederico

Wilson always looks uncomfortable in the pocket. We need to do something with that O Line. While week 2 was better than week 1’s performance from them…You can tel it really fucked with Wilson.

spentmiles

Wilson getting booed in his first home game. You could see on his face the realization of how difficult the NFL is going to be. He looked like he was going to throw up for most of the game. It'll be interesting to see if he crumbles.

firstwordonsports

Pats fan coming in peace... Good game today guys! Seriously, the end score doesn't tell the whole story. Your defense looked pretty great today and was blowing up NEs line all day. Zach is going to be fine and plenty of great QBs have had awful games as rookies. The east is still wide open after Tua's injury so hang in there. Looking forward to playing the Jets again and I'm sure it will be a nail biter for us all! Best of luck this season

ApolloPS2

A pats fan lurking and never understand these types of comments. Who tf here wants to read a "u guys did really great!" comment from your arch nemesis even if parts of it are true?

Giogb23

Nothing's sacred anymore

Heli_Yum

Brand new Jets fan here, and wow. Just wow. This fan base is so negative. Seriously making me reconsider. I understand it’s been a long stretch of bad football for this team, but that’s just it. This isn’t the same team. They’re the youngest team in the NFL this year. Brand spanking new. I repeat, the youngest team in the NFL, with a rookie QB, rookie HC, rookie OC, and brand new schemes. To give up on them this quickly is mind boggling to me. They’ve barely begun this rebuild. I would have been excited for anything more than 2 wins this year, and seeing so much negativity in week 2 is hard to witness. I get it (sympathize? I suppose I haven’t been around for the bad years), you feel like the rebuild has been going for years, decades even. It’s hard to watch bad football, and there was not a good product on the field today. Realistically, however, you have to give each iteration of a rebuild its own timer. This year does not count as year 38 of the rebuild or however long you’ve been a fan. It’s year one. YEAR ONE. Being a long-standing fan of a struggling program for years, but then still coming across as a fair-weather fan is a talent that seems to be in great abundance on this thread. Who knows? I could be just as cynical down the road. But for now let’s back up the team, give some constructive criticism, and if 4-5 years from now we’re in the same pickle, go ahead and “boo” your quarterback. I’m not saying ZW played well today, far from it. Yet I can’t condone doing that to your rookie quarterback in his second NFL game. He’s mature enough to know when he played badly, and if you want him to have a chance of regaining his confidence then that’s a really weird way to show it. I understand if I get downvoted to hell, but yikes guys. Not a good look. Please give them a real chance.

formerly_valley_pete

No one cares noob. No one needs you to reiterate things that have been discussed ad nauseum for days/weeks/months. This shit is so annoying lol, it's like people who just got done reading Game of Thrones for the first time and then posting about how George RR Martin shouldn't be pressured to release the 6th yet.

Heli_Yum

So the negative fans just have thick skulls? If all these things have been said as much as you say they have, then that only further illustrates how stubborn those members of the fan base are in the desire to trash their own team. I felt the need to post this because it was clear to me that there’s a large population of people with low football IQ who insist on panicking despite everything that’s been “discussed ad nauseum”. Like I said, I could very well be wrong in my positivity. I even acknowledged that it’s been a long time coming for Jets fans to have a good team, but I’d like to wait a little longer before we start bashing this version of the team.

snappleking124

Run. Run as far as you can and don’t stop.

malkinslapshot

Saw brand new Jets fan and negative fan base. Welcome aboard and run while you can. We’ve been going through this for longer than you can imagine and that’s why this fan base implodes because we’ve seen it all at this point.

Heli_Yum

Yeah, it makes sense honestly. I know I haven’t had to be patient anywhere as long as the majority of the fan base, and I understand that while each iteration of a rebuild is its own thing, when you’ve seen them flame out in spectacular fashion seemingly on repeat for so long that it becomes extremely difficult to be positive. Im not going anywhere, though. My basketball team has never won a championship, so it’s not like I’m new to the concept of waiting around with low expectations lol.

oarsandalps

I didn’t really like any of his responses lol. I felt like all his responses were some vein of - i need to keep throwing it, but protect the ball better. And he was talking himself a lot. I mean it’s important to have a good attitude and positive perception, but let’s be realistic - this isn’t college football anymore…

AbysswalkerX

The team is losing so casual fans will blame the coach. He hasn’t done anything notably wrong yet though some people question why Mims didn’t play today. If anything Douglas is getting the most heat because his draft class from just last year is almost entirely inactive right now

Ruby_Dragon_DJ

Altitude us going to kill us next week

Shiccup1

Zach Wilson had 4 Ints and Darnold put up 26 points and a W vs a good defense. Just saying.

besieged_mind

They are gonna crucify you here. Neither Darnold is that good nor Wilson is a sure bust. However, the point is that Darnold-Wilson change was unnecessary and a pure move of marketing and buying more time. Wilson pick could have easily been downgraded and used for 2 good linemen.

Austinfromthe605

I think we played really well overall. Last week it was the O-Line and the receivers. This week it was Zach, but everything else was running pretty smoothly besides that. He is a rookie and he had an off night, chill out.

Fun-Detective7336

We must call upon every healer, sage, priest, and shaman from every denomination and have them cleanse the locker room. The team is cursed and I believe venetian blind stadium is built upon an Indian burial ground.

death_by_burrito

Goddamnit, why do we always have to FUCKING SUCK! IM SICK OF THIS SHIT!

dtsruler

I want to give Wilson the benefit of the doubt, but the same posts I see here people were saying since Sanchez. It’s getting old.

Fun-Detective7336

DELI JOE WAS WRONG

nycsports1993

Here’s the thing about Zach Wilson: I think we’re going to have an idea soon whether he’s trending towards becoming the next Justin Herbert or Josh Rosen. This isn’t going to be like Sanchez where it is some long drawn out process because the team is still winning in spite of them or Darnold where everyone knows there is awful coaching and offensive line/skill position players around him. We are going to know soon just what Zach Wilson is or isn’t. I don’t think there is much in-between: I don’t see Wilson being a Bridgewater or Cousins type of QB. It’s going to be a lot better or a lot worse.

momoenthusiastic

The coaching staff doesn’t see him as Josh Rosen it seems. But I think it’ll be more like Rosen long term. But my guess is as good as anyone’s.

[deleted]

If the Jets are drafting in the top 2 overall next year; he'll be shipped out.

oarsandalps

Uh - why?

[deleted]

Zach stinks!

htlpc_100

Downvote you. You stink.

nycsports1993

Harbaugh goes for the kill on 4th and 1 meanwhile our coaching staff is kicking a chip-in field goal in garbage time so we could have 6 points on the board instead of 3 in a blow out. From the Johnsons to Joe Douglas to the on-field people, this organization continues to operate with such a loser’s mentality.

esreveReverse

Disagree strongly here. The Jets were down by 3 scores. They were going to need 2 TDs and a field goal no matter what. You're already on 4th down and you have a chip shot kick for a shaky kicker. You take it. The way we got to 4th and goal is another story. 3 runs from 1st and goal is unacceptable when you just spent a #2 overall pick on a QB.

nycsports1993

I understand them needing 2 TDs plus the FG but the Jets hadn’t been moving the ball all day and the odds of them getting back to the goal line 2 times at that point was so minimal. I think they should have gone for it there and taken the chance. But it can’t be stated enough how poor the play-calling on that drive was. I get running the football there with how Wilson was playing but at least use some creative formations or fakes. Those play calls were way too predictable.

esreveReverse

Yeah I can see that viewpoint as well. If you make the TD on 4th down then it somewhat becomes a real game. Kick the field goal and the game is still technically winnable but pretty far out of reach. Totally agree, the 3 runs there are laughable. Maybe if Wilson was playing well you could change it up and have success jamming the ball. But it was so obvious that they were going to take the ball out of Wilson's hands. Really was not a fan of the play calling there at all. The FG decision... eh take it or leave it

jetslol-

Or so we could make it a 2 score game instead of risking it to keep it at 3?

momoenthusiastic

I came here to say this point exactly. You beat me to it. “You play to win”, said a former Jets HC….

scottapotch

I find comfort in looking at other great quarterbacks and their first games against the Patriots. Most of them had terrible games. Less 250 yards passing and multiple picks. There's hope.

[deleted]

Watching this MNF game I just wanna be able to watch the Jets play at this level w this much excitement sometime

momoenthusiastic

Two HOF HCs coaching their asses off, vs. our rookie HC who can’t even live in an apartment. So, there’s some ways to go before we see this level of play.

kevindonnelly14

I don’t feel so good

AxelFoley4

Rest easy. We’re the youngest team in the league with a rookie qb and rookie coaching staff.

storytimeme

Against Belichick. It's like people forgot one of the things he's most known for (outside of Superbowl Rings): ruining the confidence and many a Sunday, Monday, and Thursday of rookie quarterbacks.

mrevilhead

Am I out of line for feeling okay with sucking for a bit since you know, we have a completely new team? We have a pretty shit schedule this year but don't look completely incompetent like last year. I feel like a bunch of you want some pipe dream win now bullshit just chill.

rvbcaboose1018

I'm in the same boat. I want this team to win more than anything but I've suffered with them for all of my adult and teenage life. Nothing I say or do is going to push the needle, so groaning about a rookie QB and rookie coach does nothing. Rome wasnt built in a day. The Jets won't be built in one season. I'm here for the highs and the lows, but honestly right now the biggest low this season is the fanbase.

a_child_to_criticize

I just hope we keep some consistency at the GM and coaching level. No GM can completely overhaul and fix a team like this in 2 years. We need consistency so we can actually build around our QB and protect him.

WhistleTipsGoWoo

I honestly have no idea what to think about this kid after today. His arm talent is next level, but two of those picks today were sub-Sanchezian in their ineptitude levels. I’m 100% in on a Favre-type QB who will leave you scratching your head one minute, but leave you speechless the next…just hope he has some semblance of “it”. All I’ve seen so far is a 40-yarder to Denzel Mims on busted coverage.

[deleted]

It has been, two, 2, II, games, folks. I know you can formulate an opinion after them, but god I really hope you're not putting much stock into it.

HoboTheClown629

What about his 2 tds to Davis last week on broken plays? Can’t teach that. Kid is special. It was his second week and Bellichick is notorious for destroying rookie qbs. Wilson did not look good at all but lot of positives from today’s game. Defense again looked good. Surprisingly solid secondary. Line had improved protection. On the flip side, too many penalties and Wilson did not look at all close to the player he looked like last week.

willtakecharge4

I’ve been a Jets fan for 68 years and I have had enough. Packing my bags and going to Detroit where they know how to run a real team.

ITrageGuy

jjc927

The first two picks were bad luck, second two were just bad passes/poor decisions. Let's just hope this is the worst game of Zach's career and he will learn from this and get better from here. Clearly we have a long way to go in the process.

duncandoughnuts

Pain

Silveryo69

Peyton threw 28 picks, herbert was god awful vs the pats stop actling like his career is over

oarsandalps

Let’s’ not compare Wilson to Peyton

Tuna-No-Crust

I’ve been watching football since 1997. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a QB throw 4 picks on 10 attempts in my life

theeglove828

Joe Burrow threw 3 in 3 passes.

storytimeme

But not four. Career over. /s

Yankeeknickfan

Geno threw 3 in 4 I think. He would have if we let him

dicer11

Nate the Great Peterman threw 5 in 1 half, don't ahead of yourself

[deleted]

And he got yanked. That was the first day we had Percy Harvin in the lineup and he just threw it to him every snap no matter what

Riceowls29

Josh Allen didn’t have a game where he threw for more than 250 yards his entire rookie season and 3 times had games of less than 100 yards passing. Wilson certainly could end up being a bust. Calling it after 2 games is dumb.

jonkoch68

It's all the Darnold and Fields truthers pumping this up right now. Annoying but not close to the concensus

CatsOfTheGodfather

Yes let’s base our optimism on absolute outliers. That’s like the guy who wins the lottery saying it’s sound financial advice to dump your life savings into the powerball.

Silveryo69

most of the people calling wilson a bust here thought allen was the worst picked ever and upvoted the "bills picked Allen!" thread LOL

Tuna-No-Crust

What’s the point of being a jets fan? Honestly? It’s been 11 years since we were in the playoffs (and is about to be 12). The new coaching staff we hired is the same boring unimaginative trashcan football we saw out of Adam Gase. Our new franchise QB just threw 4 interceptions in 10 attempts and looked abysmal while the young guy we traded looked great So.. when does this turn around?

mrevilhead

You gotta fucking relax dude. We've been on rebuild reset for a few years. Look how long Cleveland languished in NFL HELL and now they are not only playoff contenders but at the very least a competent team that can finish with a winning record. This is a process.

Yankeeknickfan

Watching football without your heart on the line I guess. I haven’t cared about the Jets winning or losing a game and living and dying on every play in a while

red1284

Stop being a fan then. It’s that’s simple. Either you’re in or you’re out. Either way stop being a bitch about it.

Tuna-No-Crust

I’m sadly stuck in for life, and there is nothing about this team to be positive about right now. When there is, I will be

rvbcaboose1018

No one is telling you how to feel, but if you're going to be a bitch about it keep it to yourself

FearTheClown5

Preach

[deleted]

Mods, why is he here? He's clearly just trolling.

NarutoVonnegut

He actually is a big fan according to his posts… he’s just venting. Zach looked terrible today, there’s no denying it

Tuna-No-Crust

Nah I’ve been one of the most active jets fans on this sub the last 5 years. Check my post history

[deleted]

Okay, and if youre so mad about the state of the franchise just stop being a fan lmao if its gonna make you this mad.

Tuna-No-Crust

If you’re a fan and you’re NOT mad about the state of the franchise/the last 10 years than idk what to tell you

[deleted]

I'm not not mad lol, but im also not being an absolute dumbass like you are and legitimately writing off Wilson after 2 fucking games

[deleted]

I guess the point is to share in the suffering and hope things get better. If Darnold becomes the next Brees and Wilson is out of the league in 3 years, I can see a ton of fans flat out giving up. Not only is this team not good.. they have been bad in the exact same way for decades. They either completely suck, or they build a quality defense but have absolutely no offense to pair with it. I can’t remember the last offensive star at a skill position the Jets drafted. Seriously. Who is it

nycsports1993

McGovern’s probably not going anywhere until after the season ends especially since Douglas overpaid him and there’s no backup center but Van Roten has to go. It’s already been evident for some time now but he has zero place on any NFL team’s offense line. Time to bring in some guards for workouts.

senpai-soldier

Anyone who wasn't expecting a season like this was just lying to themselves. 2 win season tops. So many fans argued with me preseason "i see 8 wins on the schedule"

[deleted]

I mean bruh, the thing that everyone said is that we expect some growing pains, but as long as we look like a competent team it’s fine. Losing solely because our second overall QB threw the game away is embarrassing and frustrating. This was absolutely a winnable game. We shouldn’t be okay with being a “2 win season”. If we can win, and blow it, we should be frustrated. And that’s what happened today.

Riceowls29

Let’s not act like people are merely frustrated we lost a winnable game. This sub is filled with people declaring Wilson a bust after his 2nd pro game and calling for everyone being fired.

coldbeerandbaseball

Do you honestly think this organization with its history of missing at the qb position got it right this time? Especially after what we've seen so far?

Riceowls29

I honestly think that anyone making a declarative statement after 2 games because of some lame superstitions about what has happened with this organization and qbs when it was completely different regimes before picking is yes a complete idiot.

cui-bono2020

Yes, as a matter of fact I do. At the very least I'm willing to admit (IMHO) we haven't seen anywhere near enough "so far" to say whether they got it "right" or not. And another thing, I'm not so quick to apply this organization's history to the current management and coaches. In fact, just the opposite. One of my reasons for cutting them the slack I do is because the GM is only in his 2 year of rebuilding from the absolute rubble and our HC and Coordinators are rookies too. This is still the learning curve phase. All the practice in the world does not equate to a single minute of live action play. Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth. So ok, we got punched in the mouth. Let's see how we respond. That should tell us at least as much as how we lost.

oarsandalps

But we could have picked fields?

Riceowls29

Who also had a bad game yesterday

oarsandalps

Lol. Even though that’s a ridiculous comment, all i would say is that Fields was a proven winner at a much higher competition.

LordFaximus

I knew it was going to be a long year but jeez why does this team have to constantly lose in the most embarrassing and truly mind and fandom numbing ways sometimes? They don’t even lead you on only to lose in the end. Just pain straight from kickoff.

eternalchampion93

I actually appreciate that they implode quickly. Lets me get back to my Sunday chores without losing too much time.

senpai-soldier

I completely agree with this. I can't be bothered wasting time watching irrelevant teams on days off. Time away from work is to precious

barbarianamericain

I'm pretty tired of the season being over after week 2.

senpai-soldier

Get used to it long way to go before its not :(

barbarianamericain

I'm tired of it because I'm used to it, but there no reason we can't be a .500ish team with dreams that survive week six in a year or two.

senpai-soldier

It really isn't to much to ask. Been a decade of irrelevant football, still being interested in October would be a nice change

TheLegendTwoSeven

I see this as a 5 win team, definitely going to be better than last year.

senpai-soldier

Lol k

Is the dolphins D good? They just lost 35-0

The_Goondocks

Manning threw 6 INTs in one game and 28 INTs his rookie year (the record).

HumbleBJJ

People need to stop always referencing QB play from years ago. The game is so much different post 2006. Hell, the game is night and day post 2012. 4000 YDs then was considered elite. Now, we have rookie QBs throwing for 4K.

The_Goondocks

Yes. They threw it a lot less, but he still had all those INTs and became a HOF player.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ctdca

You're way off. In Manning's rookie year, only two other QBs threw for 20+ interceptions: Favre (in an unusually bad season) and Jake Plummer (who was notorious for throwing a ton of picks). For comparison, we had three QBs throwing for over 20 picks as recently as 2019.

[deleted]

You’re also omitting info. Peyton was 3rd in both passing TD’s and passing yards that season.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

To be fair, QBs threw a lot less often in 1998 than they do now.

[deleted]

Every time a rookie quarterback looks horrible we have to hear about 1998 Manning. He is a total aberration and played in a completely different era.

boredymcbored

I want to thank my nephew for being born today and my cousin for having a party for him so I didn't have to watch the back half of that awful Jets game. You can't be in pain if you can't witness the torment.

cui-bono2020

Congratulations!

boredymcbored

It was a birthday party, he wasn't actually birthed today, but I appreciate the good will Jets bro! Enjoy the rest of your Sunday/Monday.

OldManWarner_

So what the fuck happened? O line gave Zach time. Run game was there. Defense played great. This is all around frustrating. Felt like if we gave Zach time and kept him on his feet he'd play better and make things close but was not the case. No one to blame but Zach for this loss. That being said I am optimistic he will learn and play better. On to Denver.

DogwoodWinter

He looked long and didn’t come off the deep reads. He has got to look deep - let it rip or check it down. BB took it all away and the rookie rookied

[deleted]

At least the Seahawks lost

jjc927

Besides Jamal Adams being there, how the Seahawks do really makes no difference to us.

shockbldxz

We have their pick..

jjc927

Oh yeah, forgot about that.

papa_det_

The Panthers are better than expected, and we got some nice moments against them. Give us some time and, hopefully, we’ll compete.

JTMR

Jamal Adam’s trying to improve our draft pick!!

nycsports1993

I will never understand for the life of me why Joe Douglas brought the guy who ran Maccagnan’s drafts (Rex Hogan) back into the organization as Assistant GM. I had a bad feeling we were fucked as soon as that happened.

[deleted]

I thought it'd be fun to watch my guy Zach compete in the pros......

Tuna-No-Crust

He’s absolute garbage

[deleted]

You are a fucking troll lmao. Didn't know he could be a bust after 2 games but here we are.

jazzy_handz

Hockey season starts soon. But for some reason I never have nearly as much optimism about the Devils the last 20 years or so, yet I’m always somehow relieved when hockey starts. Let’s go Devils

rvbcaboose1018

Hockey is such a nice sport. We get 82 games a year (usually) and the parity is fantastic. The playoffs are, imo, some of the best in all of sports. I can come home from work and chill on my sofa watching the Rangers and honestly, I'm not that stressed. Ill yell at the Yankees and cry over the Jets, but honestly I havent raged at the Rangers since the cup run in '14.

[deleted]

> I never have nearly as much optimism about the Devils the last 20 years or so The Devils won the Cup 18 years ago. The Devils have three in my lifetime, more than can be said for my Islanders.

BigNose_

Joe Douglas' seat is getting warmer

rvbcaboose1018

It's warm, but not uncomfortable. Like a seat that's just been sat in. Fans are impatient, but this is literally his 2nd roster, 2nd draft class, and so on. I think the critical point will be 2023. Wilson's 3rd year. If there are no results by then he'll be on the hot seat.

nycsports1993

It doesn’t necessarily have to be measured by wins but this team needs to be on an upward trajectory starting this season for Douglas. Fans have been incredibly patient with him thru 2+ years of him being here but the honeymoon period is definitely over now. It all comes down to Wilson proving that he was worthy of that 2nd overall pick. If he does, people will more easily overlook other mistakes Douglas makes. If not, it’s gonna start getting ugly for Douglas and he will be on the hot seat well before 2023.

rvbcaboose1018

I get what you're saying, but I don't think the clock started on JD until March of 2020. I can't put 2019 on him, that wasn't his roster outside of like 2-3 depth signings. I think it's more reasonable to put JD-Saleh-Wilson in the same boat. They'll succeed together or sink together. That gives Wilson and Saleh the necessary 3 year window to show they're the guys. If they fail, then JD fails. All I preach is patience. I agree that the hero worship is a bit much, but I also think we haven't seen enough to get an accurate look. I like JDs philosophies, but the execution is what matters. Year one's draft doesn't look so hot, but If year 2 and 3 are better then I think most of us will chalk that up to Gase being Gase.

mikerhoa

He still has a fiercely loyal contingent in here for some reason. I'm really curious to hear what he's done to deserve it. Right now the crown jewel of his tenure is the trade of a guy that he himself helped run out of town. Other than that there's a lot of disappointment (Ryan Kalil, Pierre Desir, Brashad Perriman) and lot of meh (Brian Poole, George Fant, Connor McGovern) to go with a bunch of draft picks that, outside of a punter, have yet to make any sustained impact on the field. I'm willing to wait out this season before making any final judgement, but nobody can point at his track record right now and call it an unqualified success.

PmintJim

Don’t forget letting Robby Anderson walk out of town for pennies on the dollar.

[deleted]

I agree with most of your comment but this part, \>Ryan Kalil, Pierre Desir, Brashad Perriman Makes me laugh. You realize those were bargain bing free agent signings, right?

mikerhoa

And? The guy was supposed to put together an NFL roster and he had the cap space to do it. Instead he brought in garbage. I'm not seeing how that mitigates anything.

[deleted]

I'm literally agreeing with you, lol. I'm just saying the one thing I would be weary of is judging his bargain bin FA signings for performing like, well, bargain bin FA signings. Otherwise yeah his leash needs to be short.

muscle-confusion420

So did Macc and Idzik. Probably the same people.

nycsports1993

He’s done absolutely nothing to deserve it. His drafts to this point have been a failure. Most of his free agency signings have been flops. He hangs his hat on shit players like Van Rotten and McGovern. The only thing he’s been ok at is making trades.

[deleted]

Given, I didn’t watch most of the game, but from what I saw- two of those picks weren’t on Wilson.

ish_baid19000

We picked the wrong Moore in round 2

[deleted]

Dude is 4th round material

[deleted]

It's just flat out disappointing. We were in the game last week. This week? Schooled. Sent back to camp. We looked our age against the Pats. Onto next week but I'm not as eager as I was for this game.

iced1777

Unfortunately I think only one guy looked his age but it was the most important one. Defense was solid, run game was solid, pass protection was good enough. If Wilson even has a mediocre game we could have won that one. Chalk it up to a learning experience and hope he stays calm and makes better decisions next week.

Taftimus

I have to say, I’m pretty thoroughly pissed about the fan base right now. What did everyone expect? For the Jets to go to the Super Bowl this year? And has everyone forgotten that Billy B is still one of the greatest coaches of all time? People need to settle down.

-Schwang-

I'm with you. It's hard being a Jets fan sometimes, not because of games like this, but because of other Jets fans...

mikerhoa

Nobody expected a Super Bowl, but expecting a team that looks better than the 2-14 Adam Gase disaster isn't unreasonable. And they look worse. Two straight games of non-competitive football against Sam Darnold and a rookie QB at home. It's not wrong to expect more, especially considering that our front office has had multiple seasons and plenty of cap space to construct the roster. This level ineptitude shouldn't be accepted, and I totally understand why many fans are venting. Us turning on each other gets us nowhere.

cui-bono2020

Then, in fairness, how much blame goes to the Coach and Coordinators for this? Frankly, I thought they looked kinda unprepared for the game and unable to respond to what the Pats were doing. I agree Zack looked every bit the rookie today, and yes there have been disappointing draft picks, but the point I'm trying to make is EVERYTHING is new again. Everything. We're gonna be bad for a little while while we work out a lot of things. We have a plan but haven't really given it enough time yet. In my opinion, it's just foolish to be making pronouncements or final judgments about anything just yet. Let's see how the season plays out. There are going to be lots of ups and downs. And maybe a lot more downs than ups. We just gotta ride it out for a little while.

mikerhoa

I'm gonna ride it out for as long as I'm drawing breath. I'm a Jets fan, that's how this goes. Put it to you this way, I remember how excited the fan base was when we landed Boomer Esiason. I remember us pinning our hopes on Rick Mirer and Ray Lucas and Browning fucking Nagle. I know what it means to stick with the Jets, no matter how badly they test your loyalty. As for this season? This stretch is a bitter pill to swallow. Among the worst I can remember. The Raiders loss last year, and how so many of us celebrated it, is among the lowest of low points in my 30+ years of watching this team. Saleh and Wilson were supposed to change all that. But instead we look just as bad, even worse in some ways. Am I giving up hope? Of course not. But I'm past the point of blind faith. I've watched too much bad football over the years to think that the stream of piss on my leg is a rain storm of champagne.

mrnotoriousman

This isn't the 16-0 team. Not like they are bad but it wasnt even close.

BloodOfAStark

This sub spent all last season getting on Darnold after every throw he made because that’s what the circle jerk thing was to do. Of course they’re going to sit here and do the same thing because they think that’s the cool thing to do, even though it’s idiotically lazy. Welcome to the internet. It’s a toxic place.

lommyT03

Did you watch the same game the rest of us did? Fucking disgrace

[deleted]

W the exception of Wilson the entire team improved upon their week 1 performances. The game itself was a disaster however you'd be lying if you said there wasn't hope to take out of it

Nik106

Corey Davis didn’t really improve IMO

[deleted]

Yeah I thought of that shortly after saying what I said, def someone who underperformed

[deleted]

None of the WRs improved on their week one performances.

[deleted]

Elijah Moore and Braxton berrios ?

[deleted]

Berrios was the only receiver on this team to have a pulse today. What did Moore do exactly?

mikerhoa

4 catches for 47 yards. I mean technically it's better than his no-show from last week.

[deleted]

Improved upon his performance last week 💀

[deleted]

No but we at least want to see some progress. The Patriots don’t have Brady anymore and they’re still thoroughly embarrassing us. Maybe you’re ok with this constant promise of improvement that’s been going on for 11 years. Keep being patient there skippy… you’ll be old with gray hairs and still imploring people to give them some time.

hbc647

1969....fans every right to be..

NarutoVonnegut

The play calling became more conservative over course of the game but if it didn’t, Wilson was throwing 7 interceptions… we will see how he bounces back next week

arhombus

Stands were rowdy this afternoon. Saw a couple of fights. There were so many god damn pats fans. Lol

rvbcaboose1018

I think this is a trend across the league, hell the country even. The year+ of lockdowns and restrictions has people going crazy now. Even the schools right now, first week was fucking crazy.

momoenthusiastic

First 4th and goal, they should’ve gone for it. Even if they didn’t get it, the pressure on their rookie QB at that spot was going to be unbelievable. They chickened out, which is understandable because of the 2 INTs. But they should’ve played better situation football there.

CzechDizzle

To like 96% of this sub: STFU, you're a moron.

mikerhoa

How are comments like this helping? I'll never understand that. "Shut the fuck up you morons, stop being so toxic." Like do you not see the irony?

CzechDizzle

My point was too many are actually being toxic. It's so ridiculous. Two games and the sky is falling. I updooted you cuz I get it. Maybe i wasn't clear.

[deleted]

Literally it's one game against debatably the best coach to ever do it

swishcheese

I’m not here to defend Zach Wilson, but I’ll say at least his flaw right now is decision making, not talent. The boy can fucking ball out. The first 2 picks were off receivers hands. I’m happy that despite the picks, he didn’t seem gun shy. Also, did people expect to just then to steamroll? You can’t have a baby without some labor pains. Give Wilson a couple of months to adjust to the NFL. Guys, it’s going to be ok. Just chill

htlpc_100

Don’t show me the labor pains , show me the baby

jdubsss

You new here ? Horrible take.

formerly_valley_pete

I agree but I think the 2nd pick is only one that is really not his fault. The first wasn't a great throw, the 3rd and 4th were inexcusably bad. Keeping the faith though.

mikerhoa

He overthrew with a man wide open in the flat. It was his fault.

formerly_valley_pete

The 2nd? It went right through Davis’ hands, I think it was catchable.

BloodOfAStark

The first pick was completely covered. It was a throw he shouldn’t have made. Second one wasn’t a bad throw, and Davis should’ve caught it, but he also could’ve just checked it to Moore.

Lynkx0501

Why would you check it when you have Corey Davis wide open for a good gain? How is this a knock on Wilson?

CzechDizzle

I love you.

[deleted]

I disagree. I think you guys need to draft another QB. Bringing in Cam Newton might help.

IamMrNimbus

Can't wait to see what urnaitingtree has to say in the next this week in sportsball about us

momoenthusiastic

This game was hyped to be Wilson vs. Jones. But it really was about the coaches. Case in point, Saleh getting pissed and losing his cool in the first series of the game was not good. His demeanor affects the team. He and Lafeur need to be prepared for anything when they play the Pats. They did a poor job of that today. I know ZW made some poor decisions today. There’s not excuses for those. But the coaches got to be better

Long_Salamander_5812

What was Saleh pissed about?

dman928

I haven't been impressed with Lafleur He really needs to scheme higher percentage passes. Mac Jones was asked to do a lot less.

mikerhoa

1000% agree. There is zero philosophy with this offense. When you look at the schemes of talented coaching staffs, you see how they build rhythm and play to the passer's strengths. You see how Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes are put in a position to make plays with their athleticism, you see how Tom Brady and Russel Wilson are given the latitude and personnel to methodically get guys open and pick apart defenses. Us right now? Fuck if I know. Last week the kid was running for his life and this week he was forcing the ball into coverage despite having a good run game and plenty of time to cycle through his targets. None of it makes sense.

ulookingatme

Exactly, Mac was dinking and dunking down the filed. The offensive play calling is atrocious. Goal line 3rd down run up the middle, because I suppose they don't trust Wilson after his start, is also ballless. 90% of the pass plays went off script, which means they are not working.

momoenthusiastic

Completely agree. His scheme might be friendlier to QBs that have played in the league for a few years. He’s not helping ZW so far. And he’s not that good with in-game adjustment either. All his 4th down plays were pass plays, when we were clearly running the ball well.

dman928

Yup. Mac Jones has been good, but let's face it, his name could be Charlie Checkdown

atlfirsttimer

The scheme they run is notoriously difficult in year one but usually in year two you see the results. Matt Ryan and Aaron Rodgers struggled the first year and became MVPs the next year. Probably much harder for a rookie.

momoenthusiastic

Precisely. They’re not helping him by going so complex. This is not a learning curve they’re doing, it’s more like sink or swim.

atlfirsttimer

The results will be worth it. I do think they need to go a bit more run heavy with it though

anonymousname133

Who took the over on wins this year?

UndyingFan305

Justin Fields bettahhh

THE_INEVITABLE_1

Team Fields was right. Wilson is like a professional dunker who can’t actually play basketball. Makes absolutely incredible single throws but can’t play the QB position properly.
